Topamax (topiramate) for Migraine Prevention: "I'm writing about my 18 year old daughter who is currently on Topamax. She has suffered from migraines since she was about 12 years old. They would take her out for 2-3 days each, occurring anywhere from 2-6 times a month. When she was first given Topamax we thought it was the greatest medication ever. Problem solved, she felt that the tingling fingers, and face as well as the flat soda taste was well worth not suffering from migraines. HOWEVER - and I can not stress this enough as she increased her dose, she exhibited personality changes. She became depressed and overall just wasn't herself. Thankfully we recognized this and are working with her Dr. to back off the Topamax. We will be looking into other options. Not worth it!"

For Obesity: "I have been using topiramate 50mg for 2 months along with phentermine when I started I weighed 200lbs. I went to my physician on yesterday 07/17/17 and I now weigh 178lbs. I have also been on a high fat low carb diet and it is really working for me. I never thought that I would ever see this size again. When I get to my desired weight I will continue to eat healthy and exercise."

For Seizure Prevention: "I take Topamax for seizure prevention. I had already given up soda/ junk food, etc. I was at 198lb and slowly losing. I was put on 200 mg twice a day. I became the incredible shrinking woman! Down to 135 within 6 -8 months. It takes care of my major migraines I had. Only real problem I have is several months ago I became very ill and lost 5 pounds each time. I cannot gain any weight back at all. I have given up all soda/ junk like I said and have not gone back in almost 3 years."

Topamax (topiramate) for Obesity: "I started this 4 days ago.. taking 1/2 of 50 mg at night.. so 25 mg. I will do that for 7 nights, then up to 50mg for 7 nights, then 75 mg for 7 nights, then 100 mg for 7 nights, and so on until I reach a mg my Dr. and I are comfortable with. So far I have not had any side effects except- not being hungry. In the last 3 days I have hardly eaten anything. I've been very thirsty for water, soda taste like crap- and I was very addicted to diet coke. I haven't weighed yet... been meaning to. Last I weighed was a month or so ago, and I was at 180 ish. Today is July 10th 2017. I will weigh after work and see where I am so I have a better idea who this will effect me! I've gone from 120 to 180 ish in the past year - with different meds.."

For Migraine Prevention: "Great for migraine prevention, but NOT WORTH THE SIDE EFFECTS. Constant anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, nerve zaps, tingling, numbness, visual disturbances, memory loss, brain fog, you name it. Ruined my life for a good month and I was only on 50 mg. Currently tapering off and already feeling better!"

For Migraine Prevention: "Been in Topiramate for 3 months now and the weight loss has been minimal, although it has worked wonders for the migraines I was suffering with. I was having around 3 horrendous headaches a day, I'd been prescribed 3 different triptans, verapamil, pizotofen, nortryptaline amongst other medications and was taking naproxen like smarties!! Then along came Topiramate!!! It took around 3 weeks to start working and has been a godsend. The only side effects I've had have been the tingling in my mouth, hands and feet, which, yes, is annoying but nothing compared to the pain I had from the migraines. I could do to shed a few pounds, so if weight loss is a "side effect" I'm waiting with open arms!!!"

I'm praying this continues to work out for me because I need/want to lose 58+lbs. I've really struggled with my weight for the past 7 years, On and off different diets, going to gym, personal trainer etc... my doctor wants my body to stay in ketosis. I know I can do this!"

Qudexy XR (topiramate) for Migraine Prevention: "I was placed on this for Miragine prevention. The weight loss was cool, but the resulting High Blood Pressure not cool. So much so that I was not able to be put on birth control medication. I am no longer on this medication and still am suffering from HBP. I do not smoke or drink and my blood pressure was perfect before starting this medication."

For Migraine Prevention: "I'm about to start week three of this medicine for chronic daily migraines. I don't wake up with headaches, I do experience the tingly fingers and toes, I'm cold more often, and here lately I cry a lot over stupid stuff and nearly quit my job but did gave back my promotion and raise this week. I was already trying to stop drinking sodas so the carbonated beverages tasting horrible doesn't bother me anyway. I'll continue to take it but my husband and I are monitoring the crying episodes and watching for depression. I was sleeping better at first but now I'm not sleeping much this week either."

Topamax (topiramate) for Migraine Prevention: "Worst medication EVER. I couldn't form simple thoughts together. Couldn't complete tasks. Migraines got worse. That was at 100/mg. 200mg was twice as bad. Neuro told me I could quit taking it cold turkey. He's a flipping moron. I sunk into a deep depression with high anxiety after tapering dose down. This medication needs to be banned."

For Fibromyalgia: "I was given Topiramate for a list of conditions including Fibromyalgia, Migraines, Weight Loss, and tremors. I was prescribed only 25 mg 1 X a day. As for side effects, I have found that many foods do not taste the same including yogurt and cottage cheese. They tasted old or out dated. I don't usually drink carbonated beverages, but those I have, tasted fine. I had a decrease in appetite beginning the first month, but only realized it upon looking back after a weigh in at my doctors office where I had lost 20 lbs. I had no migraine episodes during that first month, my Fibromyalgia had improved only slightly and my tremors improved also slightly. After 6 months, I had lost a total of 30 lbs with out trying as my appetite had decreased."

For Migraine Prevention: "I was on this medication for about three years to prevent migraine. It decreased the amount of migraines I would have each month but I still got them. I did experience side effects such as tingling in heels, constantly tired, diarrhea, weight loss and change in taste (specifically with carbonated beverages). I was recently hospitalized for a separate issue and the doctor's would not let me take topiramate. I ended up discontinuing it all together to see how I would adapt. I noticed that the diarrhea I was experiencing was not IBS like I had thought, but because of topiramate. It was terrible and I had previously been taking an anti-diarrheal about 5 days a week. I feel like I've got my life back since discontinuing."

For Obesity: "I get more than 9 migraines a month. I know it's 9 because I was first given sumatriptan for them and only 9 every 30 days... I just started my first dose an hour ago doing 50mg total half a day then other half at night. Going to try it that way instead of morning because I'm terrified of the fog and driving confusion since I work full time an hour away from home... Anyways I weigh 184lbs... Weighed 100-107 from age 14-23 maybe even younger than I got addicted painkillers and when I got sober I gained a good 80 lbs! I feel so gross I can't see my damn girl parts haha so after hearing this migraine pill can make me lose weight I'm super excited and hope to get back to 120lb ... I will def. update! -Steph"

Topamax (topiramate) for Migraine Prevention: "I had a horrible experience on this medication back in 2005/2006. I started on a low dose of 25 mg/day and had severe nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, confusion and memory impairment. Worked up to 50 mg 2xday, and the nausea/diarrhea eventually abated but the dizziness, fatigue, confusion and memory problems continued and I developed a bad tremor in my hands - I was dropping everything, couldn’t write legibly, and spilled food constantly. And I still had 10-15 debilitating migraines a month. Had to wean off it but 10+ years later I STILL HAVE MILD HAND TREMORS. Worst medication experience of my life."

For Migraine Prevention: "This is my first time taking Topiramate and it's for migraine prevention. I'm starting off with 25mg before bed along with 50mg Nortriptyline (also for migraines). I'm hoping to also have help with losing weight since it has been hard to keep off. I am now at my biggest (273lb) and I feel like enough is enough. Luckily I have read up on this medication and came across this message board. I'm going to take this as a sign and hope and pray that this medicine along with exercising and eating healthier, can help me with weight loss. I just need that extra push (I'm sure some of u can relate). I will update everyone on any side effects of any kind that I may or may not experience. (Day 1)"

For Obesity: "I'm on my 3rd day using Topamax for weight loss. I weighed myself after the 2nd day and had lost 6 pounds, having not changed my eating at all. Second day evening I started craving all healthy foods, so went to the store and got all healthy stuff. I get full pretty easily now (before I could eat for 2 with no problem!). I did get a tiny rash on my face, but it is gone now on day 3. I haven't had any additional side effects yet - hoping I don't! I'm taking 25 mg in the morning and 50 at night. Oh, and I was absolutely addicted to coffee, drinking at least 40 oz per day. Now it makes me sick to think about. Also wine is not appealing at all. I'm pretty happy with the results so far!"

For Migraine Prevention: "I was diagnosed with ocular migraines. I could not drive without getting sick and see correctly. I was prescribed topamax 2 weeks ago. I am a taking 25 mg in am/pm and and I am down 4.5 lbs. I did not know this was a weight loss drug too until I saw I lost weight. For me, it's a bonus. I just want to be able to drive and not be sick. At work, I have to be careful what I type in emails because I have a dopey effect but I can deal with that as long as I function in other areas of my life. I have noticed beer does not taste good so I cannot drink that any longer. I thought it was bad beer until I read something about how our brains are functioning differently on topamax ."

For Bipolar Disorder: "I've been on 50 mg of brand Topamax for two years and the cognitive impairment is significant. I often forget how to spell my last name, I don't remember events of just yesterday, and I can't spell anything anymore for the life of me. I take it for Rapid Cycling Bipolar I & went off it for two weeks to attempt to get my cognition back - by about the 6th day I started to show signs of mania and by day 8 I was full blown manic with psychosis. I'd do anything to get off this brain mush of a drug but it serves a purpose. Oddly, I never went into psychosis until this drug. Oh, and the days that passed without Topamax lead to the worst headaches ever. Buyer beware."

Topamax (topiramate) for Migraine Prevention: "I used to be on this when it was brand-name, and now I'm on it as a generic. I've found pros and cons with each. With the brand name, I felt like it worked better, but it gave me horrible problems with confusion. I would drive home from work and sometimes not even remember the drive home. I felt completely drugged. When the generic came out, I was switched to it. It didn't make me loopy like the brand name did, but I didn't think it worked as well either. I get more migraines on it by a lot than I got on brand name Topamax and I think I'm on the highest dose. I take one 200 mg pill in the morning and one 200 mg pill at night."

Topamax (topiramate) for Migraine Prevention: "When I first went on Topamax, I thought it was a miracle. I had just been diagnosed withIdiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) after 9 months of what we had previously thought was a constant migraine. Topamax was the first drug that really made a dent in the pain. However the side effects were... a lot. -at first I could barely eat (for about a month) -the brain fog slowly took me over, turning me into a zombie -the tingling was never just my hands and feet, but my arms, legs, face, and back as well. -I had vision issues, including always seeing a circle in the middle of my vision, eyes opened or closed -I had hallucinations whenever I woke up in the dark Worst of all, the drugs would help for a week or two, then the pain would come back until I increased the dose."
