For Neurogenic Detrusor Overactivity "Have Cauda Equina Syndrome, age 77. Oxybutynin 5 is the third anticholinergic to try, but same side effect as Solifenacin: brain fog, dry mouth, constipation even with laxatives and suppositories, low sodium. But all work in stopping involuntary wetting and bladder spasms. Just wish they’d do bladder Botox, hate the side effects. I'm in the UK."

For Urinary Frequency "I'm 21 and unfortunately have had this condition for a while but just recently sought treatment for it. This is the only medication I have tried so far, but it is pretty decent and helps the majority of the time. I really have no side effects except occasionally dry mouth. It also causes constipation, so I also have to take laxatives on the side. Overall, I have had no problems on it."

For Urinary Frequency "I've been taking it for over 6 months. I started with 5 mg 2x a day, but didn't help a lot. The only difference I noticed was that I didn't get up as many times during the night. My doctor upped me to 10 mg a day, but I have a lot of what I call bladder pressure, which actually hurts. It felt like I had a bad UTI (but didn't). I'm getting a new RX for 15 mg extended release, which I think will work, since I've tried taking a 10 mg in the morning and 5 mg at night, which worked great! The side effects of dry mouth and dry eyes are tolerable to me, ditto the cough, because I have congestive heart failure, and heart meds give me the same side effects, so I'm used to it. I still have to wear a pad, but went from heavy overnight Poise pads to moderate leakage pads."

For Hyperhidrosis "It works! I only use it occasionally when it’s partially hot or sticky. I have 5 mg pills, which work well and fairly quick, it seems. Though sometimes I split them in half, which still works for the sweating but lessens the side effects, which for me is feeling a tiny bit shaky, and - while not nausea - does make me not feel as hungry and a sort of butterflies-in-the-stomach feeling. Also, I definitely get dry mouth."

For Hyperhidrosis "I have suffered with hyperhidrosis for years, with even a small amount of exertion. I was at wit's end and nearly begging my doctor when she prescribed 5 mg of oxybutynin. I noticed a big improvement on just the second day. Taken twice a day has given me complete relief. Yes, I have a dry mouth, but it beats walking around all sweaty. What a relief!"

For Hyperhidrosis "Female, 40 yrs - age. Started getting axillary hyperhidrosis at age 24 yrs. Not known if hereditary, so Dr. said wasn't primary but secondary. I basically begged my Dr. as it had major effects on my QOL. At my wit's end, willing to try anything, just want it to be over! On day 4 of 2.5 mg per day. I took the 1st dose in the afternoon (fine), the 2nd dose just before dinner (not good! Found myself dizzy and tired), the 3rd and 4th doses before bed (fine). On the 4th day, starting to get a slight dry throat, not major. Sweat seems to have decreased a little. Not confident to wear anything not black. Can't be certain as to improvement as sometimes clothing feels wet, but when I feel my armpit, it feels dry, weird. Will be brave tomorrow and wear color. Will keep updating over weeks."

For Urinary Frequency "I've been taking 5 mg Oxybutynin for about two months. The dry eyes, mouth, and lack of sweating were tolerable after the first couple of weeks. I do notice that I don't go to the restroom as much (from around 25-26 times a day to 10-12). I've also had diarrhea since I've begun taking it. I'm wondering if anyone else has the same issue?"

For Hyperhidrosis "I am female, 73 years old, and started taking oxybutynin, which for a while seemed to help with my incontinence episodes. However, I started having a dry mouth and had to use more medication for my dry mouth. Constipation, having to use more medication for this, oral meds to relieve the constipation, suppositories just to go, eventually small enemas after suppositories! Had indigestion, having to use more medicine to relieve that. I have had, in the past, hyperparathyroidism with surgery, and noticed some of my urinary labs were getting bad. My GP wanted to start ultrasounds for liver and GB (I had GB surgery in the 90s). Once I stopped oxybutynin, all the above symptoms cleared up! Not sure about the labs as of this date. Still have incontinence and have to continue wearing diapers! I wrote this because this medication is not for everyone, as any medication is not for everyone. Learn about the side effects of all your medications and report them to your doctor!"

For Urinary Frequency "I've been on it now for 7 days. The heartburn is bad, a little dry mouth, my frequency is slowed down a bit. Gonna stay on it for a little while longer. Sometimes I pee a little more, some days less, but that's my anxiety that triggers it, as my nerves are a little on edge. But that's just me. I'm hoping in time it does help me."

For Urinary Frequency "I have been on oxybutynin for 3 weeks at a dose of 10 mg once a day. My side effects are dry mouth (tolerable), constipation (severe), and pain in my esophagus (severe). Much better for OAB. I decided to lower the dose to 5 mg once a day. If esophagus pain does not go away, will discontinue. Good luck!"

For Urinary Frequency "After years of being able to control my bladder well enough not to need to use public bathrooms, suddenly my urges to go were every few hours. Then, it was every time I would get up from being seated and finally, I was going every twenty minutes in the night! The 10 mg did very little to control my problem. But when I was given 20 mg, I began to feel “normal.” I can choose when to go like before. The only side effects that I am aware of are dry mouth and a residual feel of needing to, without the ability to go. My urologist says that this is a “lazy bladder.” An ultrasound showed that I’m not completely emptying my bladder. A third, but positive side effect is that I do not sweat. If I were an athlete, or if I were one to exercise strenuously, I’d have to get a different medication."

For Urinary Frequency "First started with 10 ml, then to 15 ml due to nighttime frequent urination and incontinence. I'm a 55-year-old woman. The only help the med gave me was I stopped leaking urine. It actually made me go more at night (every 45 min to an hour) and the side effects of dry mouth, dry nose. I had to have water with me constantly and couldn’t swallow while eating without liquid. I coughed like I had bronchitis, which was terrible, totally exhausted. Honestly, it was hell! The doctor told me to continue and that it could take up to 3 months for the full effect of the meds. I tried in vain! However, after having heart palpitations and my blood pressure reaching 220/110, I stopped taking it. After 2 days, my blood pressure went down to 186/96. Not sure if it’s totally related to the oxybutynin because my GP put me on blood pressure meds. After 8 hours, it went down to 144/86."

For Hyperhidrosis "Oxybutynin hydrochloride is amazing. I've had primary and secondary hyperhidrosis since I was around 10 (I'm 24 now) and tried different treatments since I didn't want to take tablets. Finally saw a specialist who recommended Lyrinel XL, so I gave it a go, and it is a miracle. Totally dry at all times unless I'm extra stressed. Only side effect is dry mouth (thirsty the majority of the time!)."

For Urinary Frequency "I have very minor urinary leakage, mostly with coughing or sneezing, but I also have to get up 2-3 times a night to go to the bathroom. My doctor put me on oxybutynin 15 mg ER. The pharmacist said to take it at night before bed due to the side effect of drowsiness. I took one pill and had insomnia all night. The next day, I was groggy, dizzy, foggy-headed, with a dry nose, dry throat, and dry mouth. The dryness was so bad my nose and throat actually ached and had a stinging sensation. The grogginess and extreme dizziness got worse as the day went on. I will never take this drug again, even in a smaller dose. If it does all this with just one pill, what is it doing to my body over the long term? I will stick to pads and trips to the bathroom. Watch what I drink...no caffeine."

For Urinary Frequency "I was on this medication for OAB and urinary frequency, particularly at night. On this, I was able to ‘hold it’ longer rather than needing to rush to the nearest bathroom, but the urge was still there, if that makes sense. At nighttime, the urge (it must be habit now) would be there to go, and I’ve recently found that my urinary frequency may be directly linked to my anxiety, so instead, I am being treated for that. It works, and it’s worth a try, but I experienced grogginess and a very dry mouth to the point where I did feel quite sick because of it. I’d take these tablets on days when I’d have exciting things planned, but I’d be too tired and grumpy when it came to actually doing them! But I’m sure it’s different for everyone. I understand this medication was not right for me because it wasn’t treating the actual problem I have. The tablets do what they say they do, it’s just about giving it a go and seeing if it works for you."

For Urinary Frequency "Male (64 years old). Dr. prescribed Oxybutynin to help with bladder spasms caused by catheter/urine bag for the first four days after the Urolift procedure. After catheter removal, while taking Oxybutynin (twice daily), could hold up to 10 oz of urine (previously avg 4-5 oz) with less urgency than my 'normal.' Did experience dry mouth and feeling of dehydration but countered with increased water consumption. Used stool softeners to avoid constipation. Unfortunately, I still got myself constipated, passed a very hard stool, and got gastroenteritis (not due to Oxybutynin). Stopped Oxybutynin to avoid constipation, and my urologist has recommended Myrbetriq (mirabegron). New drug and very expensive (up to $350 a month!). Side effects are about the same as Oxybutynin, with the added danger of much higher blood pressures (which I'm also dealing with)! I don't have a long history with Oxybutynin. However, if I continue taking a drug for my sensitive bladder, I would stick with Oxybutynin."

For Spina bifida "I just started this medication 1 week ago due to neurogenic bladder as an aftereffect of spinal surgery. And it is by far one of the worst medications I’ve ever been prescribed. A dry mouth like I didn’t know was possible, times when my chest is so tight and compressed, my throat feels too swollen and dry to get down bird feed portions; the list could go on. The urine retention is just another nightmare to have dealt with it too. I wish I had stopped this medication immediately once the onset of side effects started, but I foolishly kept giving it a try."

Oxybutynin "Started Ditropan 3 years ago after ETS surgery for compensatory sweating. Very unique condition. I take 10mg in the morning and sometimes 5mg in the afternoon. It works well, but I have terrible xerostomia (dry mouth). I'm always on the water, which is good in a way. No urinary symptoms, thankfully. I would recommend it for this condition, but stay hydrated."

"I get hot flashes and have been using this medication for 10 days. Within a few days, I had such a dry mouth, I developed a burning tongue, I have been vomiting with dry heaves, constipation for a week, despite using laxatives every day, stomach cramps, and a rash on my leg that will not go away. I will avoid this whenever I can."

I started taking it before bed because I don't like the dizzy feeling I get, but there is so much relief from pain from the kidney spasms. I feel great in the morning.
