Oxybutynin "I have been using the patches for about eight months. I still feel like my bladder is full even after going to the toilet. I wake through the night about twice a night, but the funny thing is I can get through six hours of voluntary work before needing to go to the bathroom as soon as I get home, which at times I am ready to burst. I feel the patch is working fifty percent of the time for me. I am having trouble trying to get four days out of a patch, as they get very brittle and bubble up. I try not to let them get wet in the shower, but clothing lifts it too. I guess they need to work on the kind of plaster to use that stays put on the skin. Also, I do get black marks from the adhesive and lint from cloth, but I use eucalyptus oil and tissue to remove it, and then shower, wipe the area dry, and reapply the bandage. I give the product a fifty percent out of a hundred percent but wish the constant urge and fullness would ease. Also, dry mouth and sinus problems seem to be more frequent, but I guess it's better than nothing."

"I have multiple sclerosis, and one of the most annoying symptoms is urinary issues. I have to go a lot, don't have a lot of time to actually get to the bathroom, and I wake up 4-5 times per night to go. I have tried a few other medicines for this, but Oxybutynin ER has been the only one that made a difference. Now I only get up 1-2 times per night, and I can go out without fear of finding a bathroom in time. The only side effect I've had is severe dry mouth, but it does make me drink more water, so not a total negative."

Oxybutynin "This is the third medicine I've tried. You rub it into your thigh or arm area (I couldn't do arms because I have tattoos and was told not to because of that). It takes a while to dry and is sticky. I was paranoid one of my dogs would get it on their skin, as they are always on my lap. On a scale of 1 to 10, if 10 is perfect, I would give this a 4. It worked a little, enough to notice, but not enough to be happy. I did not like applying it at all. I am now on Santura and love it. See my review of that medicine. Good luck!"

"This was prescribed as an alternative to Myrbetriq due to expense and increased blood pressure when I tried the sample for a few weeks. Initially, it seemed to help with frequency, but it was short-lived. I continued to give it a try for 2 months, but the side effects of stomach pain and gas worsened, in addition to weakness, and I had to stop. I would not recommend it if you have any stomach sensitivity."

"Took this for my overactive bladder. Then all of a sudden, it was really hard to pee. Now I have to pee all the time, and I can’t fully empty my bladder. Would not recommend this to anyone. My skin also dried out horribly."

"I used this medication for neurogenic bladder with constant UTIs. It helped my bladder, but I got dry mouth and severe sinus swelling. I was unable to breathe out of my nose and eventually got sinusitis and had to stop the medication after 3 months."

"I took oxybutynin, which worked great. No one told me about being older, that I could get severe side effects. Did not know it was the drug. No one who is over 65 should take it. So far, no one has offered any help on alleviating problems except to see a neurologist. Not fair. No one counseled me. Do not take this. Pads are cheaper to use than feeling like I have lost my mind, and it seems no one really cared."

"I have been taking oxybutynin for the past four years. It was effective when I first started taking it. Last year I had a TURP surgery on my prostate. Even since then, it seems that the oxybutynin has stopped working. I'm now sitting here with extreme urge that is nonstop. I need a new med that is different from Oxy. Hopefully, my doctor will prescribe me Myrbetriq or something."

"This drug worked great with very few side effects when I was taking a 5 mg pill. I was still leaking a little, so my Dr. increased it to 10 mg. That's when the problems began. Dizziness, extreme fatigue, gas, bloating, nausea, and it appeared to not work at all on the higher dosage. I'm going back down to 5 mg. At least I could function at work and had no fatigue. I guess sometimes a lower dose is better, especially when it comes to the horrible side effects."

"This is only my third day on oxybutynin, and I’m ready to stop taking it. Day 1, I felt loopy and could not concentrate, with dry mouth and eyes. Day 2 and 3 have me feeling (in addition to day 1 symptoms) very anxious and short of breath, and it seems to be making my hair/scalp greasy! The anxiety and the way it makes my hair feel after just three days might be worse than going to the bathroom every 30-45 mins. So torn because it does seem to have alleviated some of the urges to go to the bathroom after just 3 days. 18-19 were my average daily, and today was only 10-12!"

"This drug was the best one I have ever taken for overactive bladder. The only other drug I have taken was Vesicare. It helped some with the side effects. The effectiveness of Vesicare was marginal at best. However, the side effects of Oxybutynin for me were intolerable. It made me extremely sleepy, had difficulty driving, no appetite, and fatigue beyond belief. I was only on this drug for one week. These side effects lasted a little over a week but are now very slowly going away. I am switching to generic Detrol and hoping for the best."

"I am 14 years old and I suffer from OAB. I constantly have the urge to use the bathroom, every second of the day. I have been taking this medicine since October. I was taking one a day until December, when I took 3 a day because it wasn't working. Now I am on 4 times a day for maybe 2 weeks, and I feel absolutely no improvement. It is so frustrating because I'm in high school, and I go to the bathroom 8 times a school day. I don't know what else to do, or if these pills will end up working at all."

"I actually take it for both overactive bladder as well as excessive sweating. I've been taking 10 mg 2x a day. I've been taking it about a year. I still have excessive sweating, and I have severe constipation...to the point where stool softeners don't even work. I also feel like I have a bladder infection a lot of the time. I'm going to the doctor in a few days, and I'm getting off of this stuff. It has helped my bladder problems, though, so I'm bummed about that. It was nice while it lasted. Hopefully my doctor has something else to try."

Oxybutynin "Started using Ditropan (5 mg) 3 days ago. On day one, I took it with breakfast and noticed that post-shower, while drying my hair (and straightening it), I didn't have a bead of sweat in sight! This dosage and medicine type has definitely kept me dry all day long since then. I do, however, still sweat quite a bit at the gym, but once I am done exercising, I am no longer sweating at all (I would usually sweat quite a bit after the gym). I am giving it an 8/10 because it seems to wear off near the end of the day, but I may just need to up the dosage a tiny bit."

Oxybutynin "I am very upset and disappointed in this product. It says the patch lasts for 4 days (well, it might if it stayed on). No matter where I put it, as soon as I took a shower, it became hard plastic and fell off. So every day I had to put a new patch on, so instead of 4 patches lasting me 16 days, I only got 4 patches for 4 days. I don't know about any other women there, but I take a shower every day, I am not going 4 days without a shower! Not happy at all! :("

"This product so far has been horrible for me. I suffer from IC (interstitial cystitis), and it's supposed to reduce the amount of times I urinate, but it hasn't. And honestly, sometimes I can't get all of the urine out of my bladder because of this medication. It causes constipation, I pee more with this medication than without. I just feel like I'm never gonna find a pill that'll actually help me. I'm miserable."

"This was prescribed to me for bladder spasms, and I took it for a couple of months, and it did nothing but make the spasms worse. It actually made my pelvic floor muscles so tight that I had to push to urinate. I've tried it on more than one occasion, and it was always an unpleasant and unhelpful experience."

"Love it! Immediate relief! I take 10 mg of oxybutynin every morning, and it gets me through the day. I've been on this for approx a year and don't feel I have any side effects. I should ask my husband if he notices any differences in me... more forgetful, etc. Maybe some dry mouth, but nothing I can't live with. Sips of water help that. I feel like I have my life again :) I have noticed that I now can't go through the night without an accident, so I need to ask my Dr. if I can take some in the late afternoon to get me through the night. Overall... love it!!"

"From day 2 of taking this medication, I suffered all the major side effects you are told about, plus the ones you have to search for, the worst being a permanent headache and wanting to sleep constantly. After 2 weeks of use, my pharmacist told me to stop taking the tablets. This was over a week ago, and the side effects still persist. I have had to visit my doctor, who doesn't know the half-life of this medicine (it was prescribed by my surgeon). I have had to have blood and urine tests and won't know what damage has been done until I get the results back. I can't even drive until the symptoms settle."

"I have been on Oxybutynin for a little over a month. It has helped reduce the urgency and frequency of urination. I started with a 5 mg extended-release tablet and went to 10 mg to see if it was more effective. I haven't been on the higher dose long enough to know if it increases the effectiveness or not. All I know is that there has been an improvement since I started taking it, but I still have times when the urgency is strong, just not as strong. After reading the comments here, I must say that I am fortunate that the only side effect I have had is mild dry mouth, and that is only when I first wake up in the morning."

"I have interstitial cystitis and was going like every thirty minutes. Oxybutynin worked great at first, but then eventually caused retention so bad that I had to stop taking it because I was actually using the bathroom even more because my bladder wasn’t emptying. It also made me so constipated I developed hemorrhoids."

"I experienced most of the side effects listed and stopped taking it. At present, 2 days after my vision was impaired, it remains in that state. I would like to know if just stopping use is sufficient to cause the side effects to cease."

"I'm an octogenarian and have had no urination problems until the beginning of 2021. By July, I was getting up once or twice a night and urinating a total of 8 times in 24 hours. I was put on a 5 mg oxybutynin pill twice a day in mid-July, which seemed to exacerbate the problem to 2 to 3 urinations at night and a total of 10 to 12 times in 24 hours. The doc increased the dosage to 10 mg twice a day and told me to call him to see how it goes. It seemed counterintuitive to me, but I decided to try it. I see no improvement, but today I got a scare when I was having a sandwich and apple for lunch and had difficulty swallowing and digesting. I chewed well, but the food, especially the apple, seems to be clogged up in my thorax area, as well as in the pit of my stomach area. It took about half an hour before I felt that my food was digested. I not only got dry mouth, but it seemed like my entire system was dry, as I kept sipping water at lunch. I was greatly concerned that I would choke."

Oxybutynin "I tried Oxytrol for women, and it didn’t do anything. At least I didn’t have any side effects! I used all the patches in the box. I would really be nice to find something that works. I tried Detrol too."

"I would give it 3 stars if not for the fact that it gives me diarrhea (very rare side effect). Still, as I tried other options without good results, I am sticking to this and compensating for the diarrhea by drinking and eating more. I have had frequent urination for 4 months now as a result of recurrent UTIs and the use of several antibiotics. Just Oxybutynin stops me from urinating every 30 minutes, and I get to sleep well at night. It's effective from day one."
