"Oxybutynin works very well at taking the urgency of needing the bathroom away. I am so pleased with that part of it, but the side effects have become unbearable. I am severely tired due to insomnia, I could sleep all day, every day, and then the foggy brain seems to be getting worse. I also have the tingling feet, which just about drives me crazy - omg - I can't stand it. I am on 5 mg twice a day. I have tried taking it at night and afternoon, then morning and afternoon, afternoon and night, and nothing changes. I am so tired of being tired. I am thinking a doctor visit is in the best future. Sometimes I think sleeping on the toilet would be a lot better than these side effects."

"I had bladder spasms to where I was peeing every 5 mins. Painful bladder area on stomach. 1st 2 days on drug terrible headache. After that, miracle pill. I am now peeing every 3 hours. Bladder pain is gone. I've been on it for 30+ days."

"I am 61 years old, and I started taking 5 mg Oxybutynin ER about two months ago. I made the decision yesterday to stop taking it. I seem to have more urgency to go now than I did before, and I have severe, I mean severe, dry mouth and dry eyes. It’s not worth it to me to suffer with that! I was told all of those symptoms would go away. It has made my life miserable, so I stopped taking it yesterday."

"I am 21 and taking oxybutynin for an overactive bladder. It has made a world of difference, from peeing nearly every hour (or less) to now peeing every 3-4 hours. However, I suffer from mild nausea almost continuously from the medicine and headaches. For me, it is worth it, but for some, it may not be."

"Well, this is my 4th night taking this medicine. I decided to look up the side effects of it, and I found this page. I must say I'm scared straight. I think I've experienced dry mouth, but that's because I want to cut my water intake after a certain time at night. I think one time I did have difficulty starting a stream of urine, and my bladder felt really full a few times. Oh, and I go to the bathroom every 2 1/2 to 3 hours at night, so that's 3 times at night when in bed by 9 pm. Moving forward."

Oxybutynin "48 hours after I began the Oxytrol patch, I have a large bright red mark on my abdomen. It looks like blisters or a burn. I removed the patch. I also am now experiencing abdominal spasms, an intense fluttering in my lower abdomen. I did not see this anywhere listed as a side effect. I'm very disappointed, I had high hopes for this product."

Oxybutynin "I am 72 and been on it for over a year. The only problem is it tends to not be as effective after a while. Took 5 mg twice a day. Now going to try 5 mg once a day. Side effects have been minimal. Some dry mouth and constipation. Drinking more water helps both."

"I've tried the others that dry your eyes and mouth, blur your vision, and even paralyze your muscles so that you can't urinate without concentrating on it. This one is the winner. It cuts incontinence and overactive bladder with no side effects. I love it."

"I took Oxybutynin 5 mg for 6 weeks for my overactive bladder. While it curbed that in great fashion, it created side effects that got worse and worse. I experienced drowsiness, dizziness, headaches, dry mouth, and blurred vision. I stopped taking this medication. One last note, if you take a depression med (in my case, Amitriptyline), those meds can actually increase these side effects, take this medicine with caution!"

"I’ve been impressed with how much this medicine has helped in conjunction with Pyridium at making life bearable. I’ve had a stent placed and must have it for 14 days. When I take this medication, I can be comfortable for at least 5 hours at a time!"

"I was running to the bathroom constantly to release urine. Many times I did not get there in time. After several months, I asked my urologist to address this. He prescribed oxybutynin chloride ER (oral). Within 24 hours, my frequency was greatly extended so that I could drive my car without having an accident and sit outside without bolting to the bathroom. I have no side effects yet. I had retrograde ejaculation before I started this new med. This med has brought me back to a normal lifestyle."

"I love this oxybutynin stuff. For a couple of months, all I did was live in fear of wetting myself. I wore thick pads all the time because my bladder would all of a sudden just purge. After 4 days on this, I got control of my bladder again. I have used it for 6 weeks now at 5 mg, twice a day. So much happier and able to leave the house again. If you need to, you can increase up to a maximum of 20 mg a day. I still wear a pad, but a much smaller one and rarely leak. My mouth gets horribly dry, but I keep a drink handy and take a sip when needed. Happy now!"

Oxybutynin "Started having an overactive bladder after having a UTI treated with the wrong antibiotic. I was given two different samples of meds by a urologist and had negative reactions to both. I took a gamble with Oxytrol and, OMG, it started working within a few hours. I left the first patch on for 4 days and only used 1/2 and changed it today using the leftover other half. I am so impressed. What a relief not to have that constant feeling. I am thrilled."

"I have taken oxybutin since Dec. 2016. Since then, I have had little blisters on the side of my tongue, and they hurt constantly. My insurance will not cover any other bladder medication, so they continue to give me this medication. I KNOW that there are more medications out there, but cannot get anything else. My insurance is CareSource, and they won't approve anything else. My concern is I am supposed I will lose my teeth???? What do you think?"

Oxybutynin "I am very happy with Oxytrol. Was on Oxybutynin for years, and it just stopped working. Major issue for me was the fear if I didn't take a 'pill,' I would have to spend the day in the bathroom. Eventually, I gave it a try, and I am very happy I did. No side effects at all. Frequency and urgency are much better. Been on it for 3 weeks now and hoping it will also start to improve the bladder pain I live with every day. I also have interstitial cystitis and Mast Cell Activation Disorder, so it's a bit of a battle, but this medication patch definitely helps. I change the patch every 3 days."

"I went to a bladder specialist after continuous issues. Immediately after I started oxybutynin, I had mini seizures after the 2nd dose and blacked out, also lost hearing for about 10 minutes. I was rushed to the E.R. 2 times and continued having seizures for a while. Cat scans were done and they were normal, it was from the medication. The emergency room doctor claimed that a lot of people have reactions to this medication and mini seizures are one of them. I would definitely NOT RECOMMEND taking this."

"I took this drug for three days. Starting on day 2, I experienced slight nausea and didn't eat for the next 48 hours. On day 3, I had slight diarrhea a couple of times. In the afternoon of day 3, I had such severe diarrhea that I didn't make it to the bathroom while at work. This has never happened to me before, and I'm 60 years old. This drug is awful, and I will never take it again. It didn't even work for my overactive bladder (OAB). I switched to Myrbetriq, and it works without any side effects. It may be pricey, but you get what you pay for."

"Mary4589 -- along with your dry mouth, did you have any dryness of skin at the fingers and palms of your hands -- I mean severe wrinkling of fingers and palms like you have been in the tub for a week? I was 2 weeks on this med, and it's been 4 months off and still have extreme dry mouth. I have cut off all other meds and vitamins to figure out what is causing this dry mouth and hands, but after reading the reviews, it could be this medication has permanently cut off our saliva system. For all others who are thinking about taking this med - think about how this will not only affect your bladder problem but everything to do with water in your system."

"Prescribed oxybutynin ER 10 mg once a day for OAB. Female, 23 years old. I've been taking it for a little over two weeks with no real improvement. The only thing I can notice is perhaps I am able to empty my bladder a little easier, but not much. Still have urgency, spasms, and frequent urination. Made my mouth and lips very, very, very dry. Made me thirsty but didn't help me at all. I'm sorry, but I don't recommend it. Vesicare was the only thing I think will actually help me, too bad it costs $200, and my insurance refuses to pay for it."

"I did have dry eyes for a couple of days, but using the eye drops, because I have always had dry eyes, helps a lot. I am so happy to not be running to the bathroom every ten minutes, it is a blessing. Some days I was not able to make it home, always had to stop. So it works for me. We must realize that each of us will not experience the same thing. What affects one person may not affect the other."

"The daily use of Oxybutynin has worked wonderfully for me. I have not experienced any side effects whatsoever. I would say that it has stopped at least 98% of my bladder spasms, reducing the 'constant' urge to go 'all' the time to almost never."

Oxybutynin "Absolute life changer. After taking sleeping medications for 3 weeks solid, I had a new, unexpected urinary urgency impacting my ability to go out at all. 12-15 times a day and a horrible depression associated. After urologist consultation and within 1 hour of application of the patch, immediate relief from all symptoms. No side effects or problems with the adhesive patch. Was able to stretch out to 5 days and off after 5 months."

"I took Oxybutynin ER 10 mg for almost 5 years before it stopped working over the course of one week. It was my absolute savior while it worked. I have never leaked but had the maddening sensation that I urgently needed to pee, CONSTANTLY, even if I just peed a second ago. I had dry mouth and some fatigue at first, but the side effects dissipated over time. Try this med!"

Oxybutynin "I was on the gel for years, but now evidently my insurance no longer pays, or it is off the market. I tried the patch and really liked it, but now I find it is off the market. WHY, WHEN WE WOMEN FIND SOMETHING THAT WORKS, DO THE COMPANIES TAKE IT OFF THE MARKET? Frustrated consumer."
