"I’ve only been taking omeprazole for 1 week. I noticed I started to have headaches, dizziness, and a sick feeling. I immediately stopped taking it. I already have anxiety attacks, so to add those symptoms didn’t make it any better. The heartburn I was feeling did go away, but I just can’t deal with the dizziness, etc. I’d rather treat naturally."

"I cannot seem to tolerate any PPIs. Felt dreadful on all of them. Many people have shared these experiences with me. Aren't there any innovative medications they can come up with? It's about time the medical professionals hear these awful experiences and push for better treatments."

"Do not take this or any other PPI! I’m dead serious when I say this, either doctors bury their heads in the sand or they know and just don’t care what this does to some people. How in the heck does a PPI that is supposed to control stomach acid affect your head and heart? I’ve had all of these same symptoms as everyone else on here. Headaches out of nowhere, uneasiness feeling when lying down, feeling like a weight on my chest at night. When I’m about to fall asleep, something in my body shocks and I gasp for air-just craziness. I tried PAN for 30 days, and a week after it must have caused bad bacteria in my stomach because for 1.5 weeks I was bloated every day and burped nonstop… for the first time in my life. That happened on and off for 2 months, but the doctor wanted me to try it again to get rid of chronic gastritis once and for all. Four days in, all the symptoms again, but on Omeprazole this time… it was actually worse than I remember on PAN."

Omeprazole "I have taken Prilosec 40 mg once a day for 4 years now. It manages my GERD well. Without it, I would have severe reflux and have a damaged esophagus and stomach. I have had no side effects that I am aware of."

"Nothing worked better than omeprazole for my chronic heartburn. However, the side effects weren't worth it. After 1 week, I was painfully bloated, constipated, throwing up in my throat (which didn't burn, very weird), and could only eat a few bites of food at a time. I stuck with it for 1 more week, hoping my body would adjust, but it just got worse."

"Helped my acid reflux. I was taking it until January 2016 when my insurance no longer covered it. My doctor put me on omeprazole 40 mg 1 a day. Did good for a couple of weeks. Then I started waking up at night with heart palpitations and skipped beats. I didn't know why. Then the only thing I changed was taking the omeprazole, so I stopped taking it to see if that was causing my palpitations. Sure enough, in about a week without taking the omeprazole, my palpitations and skipped heartbeats went away. Now my acid reflux is back. Now I have to do something better."

"Omeprazole has saved my life and given me the confidence to eat food in and out of my house. My condition started about 4 years ago when I would notice food getting stuck in my throat. This got worse after 2 years. It even got to the stage where I couldn't enjoy a packet of crisps without it sticking in my throat. One day it got very serious where I felt food was stuck in my throat and I had to throw up to remove it. I made an appointment and got sent to the hospital. After getting a camera put up my nose to view my upper esophagus, the 2 doctors said there was nothing there and just to drink more water. Thanks, NHS. I knew that wasn't the case. I nearly lost all hope until I made an emergency appointment at my local doctor's surgery. From that day on, they prescribed me Almus 20mg Omeprazole. 5 months on, and I can eat whatever I want with confidence. The worry of family dinners and eating out with my wife is now a thing of the past. I am still careful how I eat and don't swallow too much at one time."

"Wow. I have felt horrible for the past week. Just unwell feeling, anxiety, tiredness even after restful sleep, diarrhea, shakiness, brain zapped, no appetite. I couldn’t for the life of me figure it out, but then I remembered I started taking omeprazole for my indigestion issues about 10 days ago. Looked on here, and it seems every commenter has my same exact issues. Yep, it’s decided, and I’m not taking this horrible medication anymore. Too steep of a price to pay for acid reflux relief. Rather just take Pepcid. Gah, I hope I feel better soon. This feeling is truly horrid."

"I have been taking this for seven years, and it helped my heartburn and acid reflux. Before they tried me on this, my heartburn was so bad they were going to have to do an EGD to rule out an ulcer. I still have a few instances where I burp and have reflux, but the heartburn is gone. However, if I run out or forget to take it for more than one day, the bad heartburn starts up again, so I'm sure I will be taking this for the rest of my life."

"I was prescribed this after being diagnosed with GERD. I currently take Adderall XR and Lamotrigine. I've taken antacids with both medications before without any issues, but after my second dose of omeprazole, I felt awful. Not only did it feel like it completely disabled the Lamotrigine, causing me to feel dizzy and like my entire body was made of static, but it also gave me pretty intense nausea. I tried it for 4 days, and it was like having the flu for 3 of those 4 days. All of those days, I had to take ibuprofen or Tylenol, several antacids, anti-nausea chews or Emetrol, and Zantac, and that only lasted a few hours of comfort until it would come back. These pills are the worst thing ever to come out of a bottle. I'd rather take Zantac the rest of my life than take this stuff ever again. The worst part is I was told this wouldn't interact with anti-seizure meds, and it was beyond wrong."

"I've been on this drug for a few years now for acid reflux. I've never felt completely well since I've been on it and wondered why my life had spiraled downhill. Thought it was just an age thing, so I just kept taking it. Now reading these reviews, I know why I haven't felt well now. I always have acid reflux and feel it in my throat, so that's why I always have taken them. In the last few weeks, I have felt really rough with it. Nausea, daily aches and pains in all my bones, anxiety, which I have NEVER suffered with, sinus and filled ears, numbness and tingling in my arms, brain fog, which worried me a little as I work with dementia patients. Still, I didn't think it was omeprazole doing it. I feel sick every morning after taking it, so I didn't take one this morning and have felt completely different today, fingers crossed. I'm going to try a small amount of diluted bicarb and natural things from now on. It just goes to show how these drugs and similar can pull your life to pieces."

"I was given omeprazole for minor heartburn. After two days, I had constant acid reflux, burning stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach inflammation. It took me three weeks for my stomach to settle down. I'm still battling with the acid reflux. Doctors give out these pills without knowing the cause of your problems. They still want me to try another brand of PPI, but I'm going to stick with diet and get better naturally."

"I had a similar experience with this drug. I’ve been on it for about a month. All the symptoms mentioned I had. My anxiety went from bad to horrendous, I was dizzy and faint and had lots of muscle cramping and weakness. My brain had gotten so bad I would be in the middle of a sentence and forget what I was saying. Deciding to come off of it, to try a more natural route of healing."

"I was taking Pepcid before for GERD and indigestion twice a day for several years. The night episodes started becoming more frequent lately, so my doctor switched me to Prilosec. After a week, I was getting a sore throat constantly, constipation, and lots of stomach gas. This is day 11, and I stopped taking the Prilosec. I took a Pepcid AC last night to get some relief and slept well."

Omeprazole "Thank God. I have not had to take the two packs of Prilosec that I have left. My story... I was miserable for months taking several different OTC medications. I finally called a research facility to try to join a study to help cure my GERD. The agent I spoke with asked me if Prilosec had failed as a cure. I said I'd never tried it, so I didn't qualify. If that was the way they determined the seriousness of your problem (if Prilosec couldn't cure you, you must be really bad), then Prilosec must be the best OTC out there. So I took the 21-day cycle. I was so uncomfortable that I took 2 the first day. I don't recommend that, but I did. After 3 days, I saw a small improvement. After 1 week, I was sure it was working. 21 days later, completely cured."

"I was on this medicine for 3 weeks, ever since I missed my period, fatigue, depression, diarrhea, headaches, cough, extreme abdominal pain (feels like a constant dull food poisoning feeling), and definitely mood changes. I was diagnosed with silent acid reflux GERD. I’m really hoping there is another medicine I can take or a home remedy I can try. Side effects from this medicine are not fun to deal with."

"The VA prescribed this medication, have been using it for over a year. I found that excessive gas was experienced, also diarrhea, dizziness, bad headaches. When I stopped using this prescription, the bad side effects went away. Now to find something that works for the GERD without all the bad side effects."

"I started taking omeprazole for my GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) about a year ago, and it has made all my symptoms go away. It started working the next day, and I have been fine ever since! This drug is amazing and has given me my life back!"

"When I took the first ever Omeprazole tablet about a month ago, I was feeling a little sick, that went away an hour later, but I started to feel vertigo in the afternoon that day and my vision was so blurred I felt like I was drunk. However, I took my next tablet in the evening and then the next one in the morning the next day, and that was it. I was feeling very dizzy and my vision was significantly affected (I literally felt as if I was drunk) for the next nearly 2 weeks - it took 2 weeks for those side effects to go away after stopping taking omeprazole. It didn't give me any relief in terms of acid reflux."

"I had a huge mental breakdown 3 months ago, and severe stomach problems followed, lost 20 pounds. Couldn’t eat anything, even water upset my stomach. My throat was gurgling constantly, and I was getting worried with how many Tums I was taking just to be able to live my life. Maybe an ulcer, maybe stress, who knows, but omeprazole sure did help. Everyone’s stomachs are different and react differently, but for me, this was a life saver."

Omeprazole "Prilosec completely eradicates the severe reflux I suffer from due to a rare stomach condition known as gastroparesis. Sadly, it completely eliminates my appetite as well. It also slows my metabolism down to a crawl, which is already inherently slow due to my stomach condition."

"Absolutely horrible. Sure, my stomach pain subsided, but the anxiety that came with it was NOT worth it. I had brain fog and anxiety all day. Even after stopping for 2 weeks, I still have anxiety, but there’s no more brain fog. Try to avoid the medication."

"My doctor prescribed omeprazole to help with my esophagus. I took one 40 mg capsule for 9 days. The side effects included swollen feet, painful legs, puffy face, raised B/P, problems breathing, and horrible bloat. It was nearly impossible to get comfortable in bed with the bloat. I eventually fell asleep and woke up 3 hours later, gasping for air. That's when I put that miserable prescription away. It's been 4 days since I've been off of it and still have bloat and difficulty breathing. I sure hope one day I can return to normal."

"I had developed GERD a few months ago and also had my gallbladder removed. Since I started omeprazole, within 2 weeks, I started having anxiety and headaches. However, it does control the acid reflux, but it's the side effects I do not care for. When I started weaning myself from it, my anxiety and headaches started disappearing. I will be consulting with my doctor about alternatives that will not give me the same symptoms."
