"I began taking Omeprazole a few years ago due to GERD. Recently, I was diagnosed with IBS with constipation, some cramping, pain. I had an upper GI (EGD), polyps were found in the body of the stomach and fundus, and also gastric polyps were found. Luckily, results were good, not the pre-c type. Doctors should be made to have to give you a warning about this before starting the medication. I'm going to wean myself off of this poison."

Omeprazole "Occasionally my GERD symptoms flare up. So, this time I decided to try Prilosec, and I feel Prilosec has worked better for me than the medication prescribed by my doctor. Within three days, my stomach swelling went down, and I was able to digest my food much better. I will use Prilosec from now on!"

"On omeprazole for GERD, 40 mg, and for 4 months, I thought I was going to die. I had anxiety attacks every night and could hardly breathe. Headaches, drooling, coughing, choking, and had no energy and a rotten taste in my mouth, and throat burning up, so I couldn't speak. I refuse to stay on tablets, instead, I am going to watch my diet and lose weight. Any tests I had showed clear, so it was tablet side effects making me worse. Natural products are best."

"I recently started Omeprazole as a replacement for Ranitidine. While it treats my GERD beautifully, it gives me a lot of stomach gas. Not sure if this will abate with time. If not, I'll ask my physician to try something else."

"I had H. pylori, so after finishing the triple therapy, I was put on omeprazole 20 mg per day. This is my third month. I had depression and anxiety. Dry mouth, night sweats, general weakness. Sometimes I feel like my body is shaking from the inside, I never had these issues before. I am confused, is it a side effect of this medicine, or am I really going crazy?"

"Went to the ER 5 times for extreme abdominal pain and was prescribed this medication. I did my research and read the reviews on these pills and was already extremely skeptical but took it for two days and already was extremely shaky, anxiety was through the roof, depressive, suicidal thoughts came flooding back. I had difficulty breathing and concentrating, shaky and painful eyes, piercing headaches, and this was only after 2 days. Do NOT recommend."

Omeprazole "I love this stuff. Ended my reflux and perpetual sore throat. I was thankful for how quickly it worked. Now to the packaging! These pills are nearly inaccessible in the packaging they come in. I use a scissor to open the pockets where the pills are encased and then store the pills in a small bottle."

"Started this medication for my IBS a couple of months ago, and it was great, no stomach issues, I was digesting easily, etc. One week, I started having an immense amount of panic attacks, sadness, irritability, you name it. It impacted my relationship, it was just awful. I stopped taking it for two weeks, and I didn’t have any panic attacks, but the side effects did not go away. Took it one more time just to be sure it was the medication, and sure enough, I had a panic attack and I could not stand, breathe, and I felt like death. Please avoid this if you can!"

"I have suffered with acid reflux (inflammation) for over one year, which affected my life massively. I was at my wits' end. I completely changed my lifestyle (diet), cutting out all spicy foods (which I love), swapping for yogurts, lots of vegetables, and probiotics. It helped a little, but I'd still suffer with acid reflux every single day. In the end, I felt depressed and unable to feel happy. I had an infection called 'H. pylori,' which I feel caused me serious health issues, including deficiencies with B12 and folic acid, as well as many, many more health issues. Anyway, in short, I've recently been prescribed Esomeprazole 20 mg, and OMG, within one day, I felt miles better, reflux gone, and so much stomach relief-this medicine really did help me hugely."

"I have been on this medicine for GERD. I lost a lot of weight while being on it and got a burning mouth and throat. I have lost my appetite, and I also have yellow phlegm and a really nasty taste in my mouth."

"After taking omeprazole 2 mg every day for 4 years, my last throat scope showed no more GERD problems, and my doctor took me off the medication. During the 4 years, I never suffered any ill side effects."

"I have been using this ever since I was a kid! I knew my gastritis was getting better, but on the other side, it was causing me mental illness! I got addicted to this, not knowing it's affecting me until I thought of looking at reviews online. I was blown away! I'm now suffering with severe anxiety problems, scared to go out of the house, losing a lot of things in life! I'm going to stop this evil medicine right now, hoping I could get back to my normal life soon!"

"This is great medicine. I have been using it for a few months now due to bad heartburn, and it works great! So far, I don't think I have been experiencing any negative side effects. I do believe once it gave me constipation, but it could have been poor diet. But overall, great medicine if you suffer from horrible acid reflux!"

Omeprazole "My doctor prescribed Protonix, which worked most of the time, and every now and then I would take Tums. Then my doctor left, and I didn't request a refill soon enough, so I decided to try Prilosec OTC. My GERD disappeared after the first day. I took it daily for 14 days as described on the box and never had a problem at all. My GERD pain is coming back, though, so I will be buying another box."

Omeprazole "My doctor gave me a sample of Prevacid for chronic heartburn, and one pill taken at bedtime gave me the hives by the next morning. Never having had hives, I freaked and called the doctor immediately. I was then given Prilosec and have been 98.6% trouble-free since then, switching to Prilosec OTC, which was half of my cost of the prescription. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat: Mexican, Thai, Chinese, or other spicy foods, chocolate, water, sodas, bland stuff, etc. I often get heartburn maybe 5 days out of 7. With Prilosec, I seldom have any discomfort, regardless of what I eat or drink. If I forget to take it daily, I'll get heartburn 36-48 hours after the last pill."

"Omeprazole is one horrible medicine. I’ve stopped taking it after 11 caps due to continuous stomach pain, constipation, bloating, and lack of appetite. It’s been three days since I stopped, but I'm still having stomach cramps, bloating, and a feeling of fullness. Hope this subsides soon."

"I took omeprazole about 4 years ago for silent reflux. I was on 40 mg a day and had no issues. I recently was prescribed 40 mg/day again for the same issue. At some point, all of my teeth became extremely sensitive. I didn’t realize it was the omeprazole at first. I ended up calling my ENT, and after being on omeprazole for three weeks, she switched me to pantoprazole. I realized they were the same family and went off of it five days later. It has now been six weeks since I took any PPI, and my teeth still hurt. It has improved only slightly. I found a Phase IV FDA study, and moderate to very severe sensitivity of teeth was listed as a side effect by 0.02% of the 351,000 responders who took omeprazole. 100% said that it didn’t resolve when they stopped taking the med. I feel like I cannot continue like this. I hope it resolves at some point, but at times the pain is unbearable. Has anyone experienced this, and if so, did it resolve?"

"I have been taking it for 4 days, and on the 3rd day, my nose started running all day. Also, I had sneezing and now a sore throat and cough that hurts. My GERD was so bad that I had a 'cobblestone' throat, and it was hard to swallow some foods. Supposed to be on it for 2 months. Hope it gets better. Dry mouth at night and rapid heartbeat are no fun either."

"I have been taking omeprazole 20 mg daily for over 10 years to treat acid reflux. I also have asthma and a tendency to get chest infections. At the beginning of the year, I developed a cough, different from any cough I had previously experienced. The cough would exhaust me during the day and keep me awake at night. I was eventually sent to an ENT specialist who told me I had a GERD cough and to double my dose of omeprazole, which I did. After I increased the dose, my cough became much worse. I decided to stop the omeprazole and try to manage with over-the-counter remedies. Within days, my cough improved dramatically and now, 3 weeks after stopping omeprazole, it continues to improve. Whilst I never attributed my worsening asthmatic problems to omeprazole, I noticed that suddenly my chest was much better and I was not needing to use my bronchodilator inhaler."

Omeprazole "I took this drug for several weeks, and my GERD cleared up. Then, out of the blue, I became moody and angry at everyone. I read up on some of the side effects and found that mood issues have been associated. I tend to have this when I take anything that amps up your metabolism, so it must contain something that is somewhat related to that."

"I was taking omeprazole 20 mg/day continuously since 10/2012 for acid reflux. There was no appreciable effect felt. Two months back, my doctor increased to 1 tablet of 40 mg/day. I found good improvement in my appetite and acid reflux problem. But one week back, I have shortness of breath even with light work, and I could not lie flat. I saw the result of a survey on this website, and I am 68. I want to ask the doctor again immediately."

"Dr. recommended omeprazole for GERD symptoms. I felt fine this morning (other than GERD) and so took my first ever omeprazole pill and got a severe headache and dizziness. Can't wait for this to be out of my system!! I have no idea if this works, but I won't be using it again."

"I was prescribed this medication approximately 4 years ago. I experienced severe heartburn and reflux, so much so that I had to sleep with the head of my bed elevated. I filled the prescription but left it in the medicine cabinet for a year without taking one pill. A year after filling it, I made a dental appointment because I noticed that the enamel on my teeth was flaking off. The dentist asked me if I had GERD. I said yes, and then he asked me if I was on anything for it. I told him no, and he suggested I take something immediately. Turns out the GERD eroded the enamel off of 17 teeth, and I had to have extensive dental work done, to the tune of $20K. Expensive lesson to learn, but one learned nonetheless. No side effects whatsoever."

"I have a hiatus hernia, causing GERD. I was put on 20 mg omeprazole in the morning and have been on that dose for about 2 years. The GERD cleared up and generally has not come back (only if I have too many beers or eat too late at night!). No side effects noticed. I may talk to my doctor eventually about any long-term use problems; but so far, so good."

Omeprazole "For starters, I have anxiety, and a lot of reviews said that they had severe anxiety while on this medication, which really worried me. I waited for a while until I was in a positive mindset to take it to avoid quitting the medication over something that wasn't real, like my normal anxiety. Eventually, I started, and by day 2, I started to notice my stomach stopped causing problems. I didn't necessarily feel good, but I stopped feeling bad, which was positive. I got really happy about this as I've been dealing with heartburn for over a year now. However, on day 5, I noticed I started waking up with decently intense anxiety, which was brand new to me. Now, when I say this, I don't want you to think I was full-blown panicking and hospitalized because I was not. I just felt very on edge and was able to push through it fine. But after time, I realized it was enough for me to give up on trying this medicine. All in all, you'll be fine to try it, and if it makes you feel bad, you will definitely know."
