Reviews for Baclofen

BeckieJ · Taken for 6 months to 1 year February 20, 2021

For Muscle Spasm: “Have been using as needed for muscle pain in my neck and shoulder for about a year. I take it at night and it helps prevent waking up with headaches. I do have bouts of nausea. But I’m unsure if it is due to the Baclofen or by the copious amounts of ibuprofen I’ve taken over the years. I try not to use it in the daytime if I can help it as it makes me drowsy.”

For Neuralgia: “My experience with this medication has been all positive as I couldn't speak and no brain function working but now I am doing well and almost back to normal, not to say my symptoms have gone all together but are manageable on the right dosage. 10/10”

For Migraine Prevention: “Was taking as prescribed 30mg/day. After 1.5 yrs on this drug I developed a burning sensation all over my body and insomnia. Dr said there would be no withdrawals with cessation. Wrong. Please take with caution. Be careful with meds that act on the GABA receptors in the head. They are some of the hardest drugs to discontinue.”

For Hiccups: “Had hiccups 10 times an hour; often to the point of hindering breathing. Lasted two days before I sought med help. Nurse practitioner prescriber baclofen. Two pills and it was gone. 10 mg. Amazing. I have most of the prescription left, which I will keep.”

For Muscle Spasm: “Baclofen helped with the muscle spasms long enough for me to get to sleep, but the effects didn't carry into the next day. It made me slightly manic, like I'd had way too much coffee, but not enough to be dangerous. I had a doctor tell me not to make major life decisions on this drug, and I see why. The worst of it though it's the vivid, terrifying nightmares where I felt like I was in real danger and woke up screaming. They don't wear off fast either - I couldn't find my phone and remember thinking I'd left it in my dream. I woke up and thought some dream-entity had replaced my sleeping partner. And of course, my partner doesn't sleep well when I wake up screaming.”

Gablofen (baclofen) for Spinal Spasticity: “I had a fusion of lower back and Gablofen the worst drug I have ever taken. Lost a month. Went down the rabbit hole. Alice in wonderland. Don't take.”

For Chronic Spasticity: “I was diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder that causes my muscles to have spasticity issues. I was prescribed Gabapentin which didn't work and had horrible side effects, so they tried Baclofen 10mg and I found myself feeling better. I take 10mg 3x/day and have been for 6 years now. There are zero side effects and on days I forget to take it I can definitely tell a major difference in my muscle pain levels and spasticity. Baclofen truly saved me. It also helps counteract any muscle pain I get from the modafinil I take. I feel human again, I'm in less pain.”

For Muscle Spasm: “I have been on baclofen for years for muscle spasms at night. About six months ago, I began waking up at night with severe pain in my ankles and the arteries in my lower leg were bulging out. Nothing would help the pain. It would just have to go away on its own after a few mins of walking. I ran out of baclofen and didn't take it for about 4 days. Immediately, I had no more ankle pain at night. It was a godsend that I ran out. I will never take it again! For muscle cramps, I just now take a muscle relaxer as needed.”

For Muscle Spasm: “Been using baclofen for 2 months used to have shooting pains and would be unable to sleep because of throbbing muscle pain. I guess I am lucky one because I have had no side effects. I am unable to take NSAIDs because of possible liver damage and allergic to Tylanol. This has been a good medicine for me.”

For Muscle Spasm: “I was on this for Condochondritis an I had a severe allergic reaction that lasted so far 5 days with this medication. I have went to the er 3 times and have to take Benadryl around the clock every 4 hours to stay stable. It’s horrible. I only took on 10 mg pill.”

For Spasticity: “I had Transverse Myelitis in 1998. I have had mild spasticity for the last few years that has gotten much worse. I have 24/7 leg pain and I was prescribed Baclofen at 10mg once or twice a day. This was a year ago. I had to stop because I had severe depression. Well, I thought I would try taking this medication again only before going to sleep at night. I have to stop again because my wife is telling me she doesn't like how my personality has changed. I don't know what to do now. I need a medication that doesn't mess with my whole central nervous system and I don't think there's one out there.”

For Neuralgia: “Take baclofen with CAUTION Took the recommended dosage, after approximately an hour had to urinate. I recall sitting on the toilet, the next thing I remember was coming to, on the floor. I really could have injured myself. Carried on but taking only a half tablet as the nerve pain was nearly unbearable, and didn’t want to deal with going back to Dr then pharmacy etc., etc.”

For Muscle Spasm: “Baclofen does not work for muscle spasms. Soma, Diazepam, Flexirile. Is much better for muscle spasms.”

For Hiccups: “Have had intractable hiccups for month 24/7 which generally culminate into vomiting in late evenings. Tried gabapentin - no effect. Tried reglan - also no effect. Finally baclofen 20-30 mg every 6 hours did the trick. Initial Rx was for 10 my every 8 hours but that low a dose did nothing. 80mg per day made life tolerable and minimized the hiccups Altho I can still feel them lurking just under surface.”

For Cerebral Spasticity: “I actually use baclofen delivered intrathecally with a pump, but so far, it appears to be working quite nicely to help relieve my spasticity, and aside from a broken catheter causing baclofen withdrawal and at least 2 pump replacements when the battery was on its way out, my baclofen pump seems to be working wonders when Botox injections didn’t do anything.”

For Periodic Limb Movement Disorder: “After several years of treatment with ropinarole with decreasing effectiveness I started taking baclofen about 5 months ago. The results were dramatic. I am not bothered by evening symptoms at all. And it doesn’t make me sleepy!”

For Chronic Spasticity: “baclofen has dangerous side effects, including bradycardia. I took 20mg twice a day for 12 years and had to stop. My pulse had gone below 60 beats per minute and so could not get a valid blood pressure reading. I also had severe vertigo. Now I am two weeks without it and I am OK. I was also taking norvasc 2.5 mg with it.”

For Alcohol Withdrawal: “Hello Friends, I do believe that this baclofen is a game changer for alcohol problems! I have been on Baclofen for 6 months now and have gone from a bottle a day down to only a few mini bottles every few days. Sure I still have a beer or two in between but I feel so much better and get so much more done daily. When I first heard the ad on the radio I was all over it because of how much money I was spending at bars and on bottles daily. (about $300 just on the weekends). I recommend this to anyone that get anxiety from not having drinks especially if they go a day with out drinking. Give it some time and let it work and you will be just as happy as I am”

For Alcohol Withdrawal: “Severe alcoholism for over a decade. Tried everything to stop. Started to take this in the morning instead of the first drink. Reduced w/d symptoms: sweating, anxiety, obsessive thoughts about drinking, tachycardia. It took a a year or so of using baclofen while working hard to reduce drinking, but when I was ready, it gave me the ability to stop. It treated a host of related problems: panic, tremors from drinking for so long and the embarrassment that comes from that, balancing mood since it helped calm the mind, neuropathy from likely nerve damage, spasms, PTSD. Very dangerous to mix this with alcohol, so if you are not able to control yourself from mixing them to get an exaggerated alcohol effect, don't use it. I think the desire to quit or reduce was essential to its effectiveness. It worked for me the way naltrexone is supposed to. But without the anhedonia (inability to feel pleasure in normally pleasurable activities). I still get anhedonia occasionally, but on naltrexone, it was constant.”

For Alcohol Withdrawal: “I have been on Baclofen for 2 months now to help me stop drinking and started at 5mg and SLOWLY titrated up. I’m now on 60mg and have no desire to drink. If I’m at a social event I’ll have a glass of wine but I drink it very slowly and most of the time don’t finish it which was highly unusual for me. If I started a glass of wine I would always end up drinking 4 glasses. Baclofen is the best thing that ever happened to me.”

For Temporomandibular Joint Disorder: “Having chronic and severe TMJ pain, tried amitriptyline, naproxen, diazepam, tramadol, oxycodone and list goes on, at some point was given neurontin which didn't help much by itself so my dr also prescribed me with baclofen 10mg 3x a day. together they work like magic, I still can't eat solid foods but at least the pain isn't bad anymore, feels like part of my life was given back, if you happen to be in the same boat maybe try both (consult your dr first).”

For Muscle Spasm: “I have a herniated disc in my neck and I thought I was dying. The muscles spasms were compressing a nerve that went down to my right arm from my neck. Holy cow I don’t wish that pain on my enemy. UC prescribed this for the extreme spasms and it worked for three days so far 3x daily. Weird feelings and some weird very minor what I would call hallucinating now and again, but much more bearable than the spasms. I couldn’t even move my arm and neck before taking this.”
