For Dry Eye Disease "I used Systane Ultra as directed by my surgery post-cataract surgery. My eyes burned and itched for several minutes after applying, but I thought it had something to do with the surgery. Then, a couple of months after surgery, I was advised to take Systane Nighttime ointment for eye dryness because I had started using a Bi-PAP machine. I tried it in one eye to start, and after the first night, my eye became irritated, and for 2 days following, it felt as though I had sand in my eye or a corneal abrasion. Both times when I reported this to my physician's office (Ultra and Nighttime Ointment), they seemed puzzled. But reading comments here, I see I'm not alone."

For Dry Eye Disease "Works great!!! Much better than the other Systane OTC brand drops because it contains mineral oil. A little pricey, but well worth it. One bottle lasts me months. My ophthalmologist prescribed this and Xiidra drops (Rx only) after he diagnosed me with dry eye disease (DED) caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), which is actually the main cause of DED. I also use a microwavable eye heat mask daily and Ocusoft HypoChlor, which targets the main cause of DED. These combinations of treatments have highly improved my condition."

For Dry Eye Disease "Bought these today for dry eyes, and as soon as I put them in, I felt the worst eye stinging I have ever felt! Horrible! Boric acid??? I want my money back and a good explanation as to why they hurt my eyes!!"

For Dry Eye Disease "Has severe dry eyes and my eye doctor recommended the Systane Gel Eye drops - they were uncomfortable at first to use as they seemed to make my vision a bit blurry and eyelashes sticky, but prior to using them, my eye doctor had warned me of this and recommended taking it once only before bed instead. It's a medication that isn't really supposed to be used long-term and multiple times a day (I've seen other comments where people have apparently been told to use them 4 times a day for 4 weeks, which sounds very excessive...). All in all, Systane worked well for me as I didn't use it frequently as per my eye doctor's recommendation. It would be blurry and a bit 'sticky' before bed, but in the morning my eyes did feel less scratchy, and I supplemented these with other single-use eyedrops during the day to keep my eyes nice and wet. So far so good! I've been told to use it for only two weeks and no more than that, so one more week to go and no real ill effects so far."

For Dry Eye Disease "I have used this product with no problem, then I got pneumonia and wow, my eyes went ballistic. Red, inflamed, puffy, itchy, and I went to the doctor. He showed me a picture of eyes with problems like mine, and the cause was Systane. I was so shocked. It is really terrible."

For Dry Eye Disease "I have macular degeneration and dry eye and have used Systane for years. I happened to pick up Systane Ultra the last time. The edge of my eyelids was constantly itchy. Thinking it was something I was allergic to since I had recently moved, I continued to use them. One morning, for whatever reason, I didn’t do my usual eye drop routine. Later that morning, I realized I wasn’t rubbing my eyes. My “aha moment”! I didn’t use the Ultra drops again!"

For Dry Eye Disease "Crazy. My eye doctor pushed these eye drops so hard, and using these eye drops made my eyes dryer and dryer. It took 2.5 years to discover that I should use preservative-free eye drops instead—because lo and behold, I was allergic to the regular drops! The regular drops caused more inflammation, which interfered with my normal tear production. Thousands of dollars later, a lot of pain and suffering, two ulcers on my left eye, and it was the office receptionist that suggested I try preservative-free eye drops! And, within a couple of weeks, my devastating dry eye symptoms were gone."

For Dry Eye Disease "I notice this week my eyes were dry, I placed 2 eye drops of Systane Ultra High Performing Dry Eye Relief in each of my eyes. Within minutes, the back right side of my head began to hurt and throb. I knew this eye drop caused the pain. I read about the main ingredient polyethylene glycol 400 0.4 can cause head pain."

For Dry Eye Disease "I was using Systane Ultra and Complete as recommended by my eye specialist. I also use Azopt and Lumigan drops for glaucoma. I had been using the glaucoma drops for at least 2 years without problems. Shortly after starting to use the Systane, it became very uncomfortable installing the Azopt and Lumigan drops. After approx. a couple of months of Systane use, I decided to try to figure out why my eyes had become so sensitive to light and why it hurt so much when installing my glaucoma drops. I stopped the use of Systane, and after a couple of days or so, no more eye stinging or sensitivity to light. Not everyone will have my same problems, but just giving Systane users a heads up.....Don Little"

For Eye Redness "Hypo Tears are the only eyedrops that relieve my dry eyes. I have used this brand for 30 years. I hope they are never discontinued or reformulated, as they are the only ones that work for me. I have tried every other eyedrop on the market, including Restasis, and none of them relieve the dryness, and many, if not most, actually make it worse."

For Dry Eye Disease "What a miserable experience! Something that is this expensive and preservative-free shouldn't cause such discomfort. It has been a nightmare. My eyes got swollen, irritated, and the entire eye socket area became/is bright red. I still haven't recovered from it. It looks like I got punched in the eyes. I've tried many brands and drops before and NEVER had an experience like this. I'm taking them back and will never, ever buy this brand again."

For Dry Eye Disease "I do not like Systane UD, as it does not help my dry eye. The drops are too thick and do not dissolve too easily in the eye. It makes my eye and around it too sticky, and I have to wash the eyelid after use. It gives me more gritty eyes. Unfortunately, I bought three boxes in one go but had to stop using them after a few days. I have to bin the rest of these expensive eye drops. Never again buy any Systane products."

"This review is for the PM ointment. The idea of putting ointment in my eyes is disturbing. Very disturbing. I’m not good when something gets close to my eyeball, so it took a lot of self-talk to put the ointment in my eyes. Before, I’d go to bed with burning and/or gritty eyes and wake up with burning eyes and/or sticky eyelids. I have none of that now…it’s so nice! It causes blurry vision, but it doesn’t matter because I use it right before going to bed. It’s a little hard to put in because too much pressure is needed to get the product out of the tube. An ointment eye product is still unsettling to me, but it works extremely well, so I keep using it. If they made a non-ointment product that was just as effective and lasted all night, I’d be the first in line."

For Eye Redness "I had a very serious dry eye condition that showed up after all my cancer treatments were completed. I had no idea what was happening to me other than a red bubble appearing in one eye. My eye doctor suggested TheraTears 4x a day plus taking a nutritional product. It cleared up, and to this day, I only use TheraTears in my eyes. Florida's allergy season is all year round for me and my eyes. It's great and the only drops to go in my eyes. It was suggested that I buy the individual vials as, for some reason, contamination is a factor I have to keep in mind for my eyes. I have not had dry eye since. Thank you, TheraTears, and I love the coupons."

For Dry Eye Disease "After using this product for a short time (1 day), I am displeased that after several uses, the drops leave a crusty residue under the eyes. The residue can only be removed using something oily like cold cream or mineral oil."

For Dry Eye Disease "I have been using Lacriserts for at least 20 years. I have dry eye from Sjögren's disease. Like other people say, they are a godsend. I have not been able to get them this last month, and I now get to be totally miserable with my dry eyes since they have absolutely no tears. This is the third time this has happened to me. It is a necessity for me. Can someone please tell me why they are not available? I am in a lot of pain, and so far this is the only medication that works for me, OTC or prescription."

"I was advised to use the Systane Ultra by my optometrist, but the irritation it caused and splitting and crusting of the skin around my eyes has been unbearable. The skin around my eyes is itchy and crusty and splitting at the corners. My vision is blurred and worse for using it. It will take a few days to settle down, it seems, but I won't be using it again!"

For Eye Redness "I have extremely dry eyes due to sarcoidosis. Have used GenTeal gel for many years, but I have not been able to find it for at least a year. I am now trying GenTeal nighttime ointment at night. I prefer the gel. The GenTeal gel has a pointed tip and is so great for day and night. I can use just a small amount during the day, and it doesn't blur my vision. I have tried so many eye drops, but nothing compares to the gel."

For Dry Eye Disease "Caused horrible migraines and nausea both times using drops, within 30-40 minutes of using 1 drop per eye. First time I did not think it was due to drops, second time, 2 days later, I realized the cause was the drops. Caused a migraine both times... not a headache, but full-on migraine!"

For Dry Eye Disease "These are the best eye drops that I have used out of the many that I have tried. I think that there is more lubrication in these eye drops than in other brands that I have tried. I am using preservative-free eye drops. I have experienced burning and itching when I use any brand of eye drops that contains a preservative."

For Dry Eye Disease "Tried this brand (Oasis Tears Plus) as an alternate to my current dry eye medication. Shortly after inserting the drops in both eyes, I experienced some eye pressure pain, irritation, redness, and itching in both eyes, which shortly thereafter turned into a fairly prolonged headache. I tried these drops again the next day to see if these reactions persisted, and I had the same type of reaction all over again. I didn't have any of these adverse reactions with my other brand dry eye drops, so I quit using these Oasis drops immediately. Primary ingredient is glycerin, but the incipient ingredients are questionable. Do not recommend if you have drug sensitivities or allergies."

For Dry Eye Disease "I'm 50, and I've used other drops all my life with no problems. After a few weeks of using these drops, my eyes started burning, and I noticed my vision would get blurry at night while trying to watch TV. I never had these symptoms before using these drops, and it was getting so bad I finally decided to look at the reviews. Sure enough, I saw a lot of other people experiencing the same exact horrible side effects. I just threw mine in the trash. I just hope it didn't do any permanent damage."

"I started with regular Systane, but after a few months it was simply not enough to remedy my dry eyes, so I segued over to Ultra, which was great for a number of years. Now I don't know what changed, but the Ultra started leaving a hard crust in my eyelashes and under my eyes on the skin––kinda like sleep sand mixed with glue. And you can't simply rub it out of your eyes; this stuff has to be picked off piece by piece. I don't know what caused this (it's only been this bad since I moved from Southern to Northern California about a year ago), but if anyone knows of a substitute, I'd be grateful for your input."

For Dry Eye Disease "Went to optometrists/opthamologist for eye exam. Said I had dry eyes. Gave me sample bottles, said to use 4 or 5 times a day for the first two weeks, then no less than 3 times a day. My eyes are swollen, vision blurry, I wake up with goo and gook in my eyes, it is awful. I stopped today. I hope it clears up soon, I drive for a living."

For Dry Eye Disease "Oasis Tears Plus side effects. I think my husband and I both are experiencing reactions to this product. Both of us have redder, more sensitive, itchy reactions. Today, after a week's use, my eyes are red, and clearly, this isn't working for me. My husband isn't complaining that much. Stopping use today and going back to Systane."
