For Osteoarthritis "I’ve been taking meloxicam for 4 years. Helped a little with foot pain but I’ve gained 45 lbs and could not understand why since I hadn’t changed my eating habits. I’ve been telling doctors about this and they just suggested dieting. One even said just stop eating completely and take supplements like that’s so easy. Not ONCE did they mention weight gain as a side effect of this drug. Not to mention the cardiac and circulatory dangers. Plus internal bleeding that can occur. I’ve learned the hard way to just quit trusting doctors to tell you anything. Be your own health advocate and read everything thing you can find when you’re prescribed any drug."

For Osteoarthritis "Only took meloxicam 4 times. At first, I felt it may be working a bit. I think the doc gave a starter dose. I gained 2 lbs. This morning, I woke up still in lots of pain in my back, as usual. I am not interested in gaining more weight and getting into stage I obesity again. The pain relief is not any better than OTC medicine. All in all, I’ll muscle through my pain without this med. I don’t like the risk profile either, internal bleeding - oh no, big deal. Not! No thanks, next."

For Osteoarthritis "Took meloxicam for 2 weeks. Helped with the pain, but I noticed stomach swelling. Woke up one night with severe stomach cramps. I passed out in the bathroom. I had to be taken to the hospital. I had stomach bleeding. I lost 2 pints of blood and had a stomach ulcer. This drug is dangerous."

For Osteoarthritis "Was prescribed meloxicam for knee pain following two surgeries to repair meniscus tears. It truly was a wonder drug - knee pain practically gone - mobility increased. Took it for approximately 4 months - 1 x 10 mg tablet with breakfast. AND THEN ... three weeks ago I woke up - couldn't stand up without fainting and had a tarry black stool. Rushed to the hospital. Blood transfusions ... endoscopy revealed a bleeding duodenal ulcer. I had no symptoms - no pain at all. Gastroenterologist confirmed how dangerous this drug is - side effect of internal bleeding is very real. I should have done more research before taking. This is a dangerous drug - that unfortunately worked great to relieve knee pain - but almost killed me!"

For Inflammatory Conditions "My husband had been taking this for inflammation for a few months. Meloxicam caused a large bleeding ulcer in his intestine that developed over the few months that he had been taking it. He ended up in the emergency room after he collapsed and lost a lot of blood from internal bleeding. It also gave him a lot of gas and stomach upset. I would not recommend for anyone to take it. It did not do much to relieve his inflammation pain in his shoulder. Please read all side effects that this medication might cause before you start taking it."

For Fibromyalgia "Have been using this for about 3 months intermittently for fibro. It definitely helps, which is brilliant. The downside is I have just been released from the hospital after 5 days of profuse bleeding. Ulcers??? I wasn't aware I had any. I urge caution with this medication."

For Osteoarthritis "Years ago, I had terrible low back pain. MD suggested Mobic, which worked great for several years. About 4-5 years ago, I developed atrial fibrillation. My cardiologist told me to definitely get off the Mobic because a side effect is bleeding, so this would worsen the bleeding because one side effect of Xarelto (a blood thinner) is to thin my blood to avoid strokes. I just read on another site that Mobic can cause AFib. There is no way to know if the Mobic caused the AFib or if it developed independently. I suspect the Mobic brought on the AFib, although I have no proof of that. I have been in excellent health. The 1-10 rating scale used above should not be used because, in my case, the Mobic was very helpful but probably caused major side effects."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "22-year-old female diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatologist switched me from a regular higher dose of naproxen to meloxicam. All the pain relief I had been having with the naproxen disappeared when I switched over. Got off work the other day to find that I had some rectal bleeding as well. I suffer from depression as well and am medicated for it, but the second I started taking this drug, my symptoms got much worse. I believe the meloxicam is causing a big bunch of problems for me, and I only just started taking it."

For Osteoarthritis "My husband's knee replacement failed 4 years ago. He has been taking meloxicam ever since both knee replacements in 2015. He had rectal bleeding this summer, and we went through a cancer scare, but after the colonoscopy, the doctor told him to try only taking the meloxicam every other day, 1/2 a pill at the most. Now his osteoarthritis is showing him how bad off he really is. Last night, he admitted to me that he had bleeding from the rectum yesterday. His doctor told him no one has died from osteoarthritis, but they have from internal bleeding. He also gained about 25 pounds since his knee replacements. That is when he started meloxicam. I didn’t know weight gain is a side effect of this pill. He will lose his part-time, well-paying job that he loves, our home, because he won’t be able to do yard work and will be in so much pain. I am afraid he won’t really stop taking it. If you love your wife or husband - don’t ever start this pill."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I am a 65-year-old male and was given meloxicam for pain in my hands. The med did not reduce my pain for a while. I had taken it for more than 4 months and noticed that my skin would bruise easily. Any cuts on my body would take a long time to heal. I am not diabetic. When my rectum started bleeding, I was told to use an over-the-counter laxative, which helped. I just thought I was getting older and this was to be expected. I then read about side effects and decided to quit taking meloxicam. Within a couple of weeks, my cuts and bruises healed up. The pain in my hands is coming back, but the side effects were worse for me. I read other people's comments online and they seem to love this med. Everyone is different. If it works for you, great."
