Loratadine for Allergic Rhinitis "This stuff did very little for my allergies. It made me feel tired and spaced out and gave me minor heart palpitations. Benadryl works much better but has some dangers if taken long term. Nasacort has few side effects for me but only limited help. Some homeopathic nasal sprays work better than most OTC stuff."

Loratadine for Allergic Rhinitis "I have taken Claritin for a number of years now. I have year-round allergies and severe in season. I only take this when needed - I am not the type to take it as a preventative. My experience is that Claritin is effective if taken on an empty stomach and when my allergies are on the mild to moderate side. If they are severe, it does not help."

For Allergic Rhinitis "First of all, I'm not and never have been a smoker. Have COPD due to chronic bronchitis, I developed asthma after 40. I've been taking this product for five years, and the illness due to weather has decreased dramatically. I had previously suffered from pneumonia due to worsening bronchitis at least twice a year. I average once every three years now, it is due to consistently taking this year-round."

Loratadine for Allergic Rhinitis "Absolutely no relief whatsoever from a severe allergy condition I had for one day a few weeks ago. Wrote to Bayer, they responded the next day with promises of a refund, but nothing after initial first contact. Do not waste your money on this product, try something else."

Loratadine for Allergic Rhinitis "I was diagnosed with an allergy-induced sinus infection. I also had really itchy ears and skin patches. The Loratadine helped these problems but caused really serious CNS side effects. My PB was elevated by 30 points (154/93), with a heart rate of 68. I was in a full body shake early in the morning of the fourth day of treatment. I also experienced serious anxiety and depression problems. I stopped taking the meds and the symptoms gradually subsided throughout the day. Not a good choice for me."

Loratadine for Allergic Rhinitis "I have been on Claritin throughout my youth. It has never failed me and was great. I am 69 years old and very fit, and Claritin just started giving me side effects like waking up with sudden anxiety, being very thirsty, and also fatigued. I tested myself again after a while, and I think it is true. I’m not on any other medication except 8 mg of Candasartan blood pressure meds, which I have been taking for over 10 years. I’m a golfer and work out in the gym. It’s sad to be no longer able to tolerate certain antihistamines."

For Allergic Rhinitis "33 years old male living in central Texas. Loratadine is extremely effective in eliminating hay fever and allergic symptoms, feels clear as can be, however, the side effects are also prominent. Currently taking 10 mg per day, completely eliminated hay fever, but it's giving me constipation and very slow and difficult bowel movements. Dry mouth and irritable trachea are also noticeable, but I can live with those. Planning on reducing the dosage to 5 mg or 2.5 mg and see if the side effects persist."

Loratadine for Allergic Rhinitis "I started using Claritin (loratadine) per my ENT's instructions to address a runny nose/PND. After one week, I noticed facial redness on my cheeks and nose, the only thing different that I'd been using was the Claritin. I stopped taking it today and am sure hoping the redness disappears. It did work as far as clearing up my nose and PND."

Loratadine for Allergic Rhinitis "Claritin is the only medicine that works for me. I have very high pollen counts in my area and have always suffered sinus infections. I started taking Claritin 24 about 10 days ago and I feel clear! Just bought a 30-day supply."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I have been taking this forever for seasonal and year-round allergies. No side effects, no interactions that I know of. Every once in a while, when the pollen count gets very high, I will also take one Benadryl. That knocks it all back to a comfortable level for days."

Loratadine for Allergic Rhinitis "It takes hours and hours to kick in. I even took 2 to speed up my relief, and 3 hours later I'm still suffering. Zyrtec works within 30 min and lasts 24 hours. I will never take Claritin again when I need immediate relief."

Loratadine for Urticaria "I have chronic hives and experience swelling of my lips. I've been taking Claritin Hives Relief for 7 days and have not had one breakout. I've tried Benadryl for months and found no relief. One Claritin a day and I'm free of hives."

Loratadine for Allergic Rhinitis "I took Claritin on two occasions to alleviate stuffy head colds and a runny nose. I took 2 pills, one each on successive days about a month apart, and a day after taking them experienced both times a bloody nose. I am an older adult and haven't had a bloody nose since I was a child."

For Urticaria "I take one loratadine per day for dermographism. It reduces itching substantially, but does not decrease the appearance of the rash. The effectiveness of one pill seems to last longer than 24 hours, typically, I don't notice itching until about 36 hours after taking a pill."

For Allergies "This made me dizzy, confused, panicky, worst feeling ever! I kind of feel like I am on a bad trip! Also gave me bad heartburn, made me feel like my throat is closing in, cannot swallow saliva, ears are popping. I am never taking this again."

Loratadine for Urticaria "This works fantastically for those who have allergic reactions to mosquitoes and other insect bites. Both my daughter and I swell (3-5' plus) from mosquitoes. Benadryl doesn't seem to work very well. However, in the summer, we take 1 pill per day, and it minimizes the swelling and itch. Yes, I've discussed this with a doctor, and he was the one who recommended taking a pill a day beforehand."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I have been taking loratadine daily for almost 20 years, and it works great for me. Sometimes I forget to take it or get out of the habit, and after a couple of weeks off of it, my allergy symptoms come back (sneezing, runny nose, inflamed sinuses, puffy eyes, post-nasal drip). When I restart taking it, the allergies stop again. I am allergic to airborne and indoor allergens year-round: dust, mold, cats and dogs (but not rabbits), trees, grasses, pollen - you name it. Year-round allergy issues, but loratadine is so effective that I forget my allergies. (Except to cats, I’m still allergic to cats. I can be around them and pet them, but I should wash my hands well, and sometimes I need to change clothes after being in a cat home.) I’ve read about others having depression and body or back aches, and I don’t connect my depression or aches with loratadine. Good to know, though. My depression is only occasional, and my aches are due to eating gluten and/or refined sugar."

For Urticaria "Oh my goodness, no way! Stay away, this is by far a very dangerous medication for some people. It's made me feel extremely strange and out of body experience. Dizziness, strange head feeling, strange thoughts, paranoia, anxiety, and depression. No one should feel this ill, but to affect your mood is a bit strange. I will not be touching this drug again."

For Allergic Rhinitis "Loratadine does not work for my allergies. I switched from Zyrtec because it was cheaper. I wasted my money. I have had allergies all my life. My doc recommended loratadine, but Sudafed and Zyrtec work much better. If you are going to try it, buy as little as possible to try it. Good luck."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I found this helpful in relieving the excess production of mucus and the resultant post-nasal drip, which caused an irritating and continuous need to cough up phlegm. However, I have not been using it for very long (3 weeks at 1 tablet per day taken in the morning), and twice have experienced light-headedness, requiring me to hang onto something and to sit or lie down before I fall down. I normally have fairly low blood pressure but not sufficient to feel I am about to faint."

For Allergic Rhinitis "It took about a week of daily doses for loratadine to start affecting my allergies, but after that, it was great. If I stop taking it, symptoms return after 2-3 days. This is not a short-term fix drug. Try it daily for at least 2 weeks before you decide if it works for you."

Loratadine for Urticaria "I gave my daughter Claritin 5 mg twice a day following doctors' orders along with amoxicillin. She is 10. After taking it for 8 days, she started to break out with a rash. I took her back to the doctor, she then ordered Benadryl for the rash. Within 5 hours, that rash turned into welts all over her body. It was hot to touch and itchy. Also, she went to the ER the next day because of the severity of her condition at that point. The ER doctor gave her steroids to help with her pain and to try to eliminate the rash. Well, it's 4 days later, and she still has the condition. The doctor says she has urticaria or Stevens-Johnson syndrome, so now my daughter and I have to wait day by day and watch her for any new breakouts."

Loratadine for Allergic Rhinitis "I was expecting this to have some sort of side effect, but it’s just given me more of a placebo effect. I do have trouble sleeping, but it’s because I sleep with a toddler in my bed, am a very light sleeper, and my mind is always racing over stupid stuff like my most recent heartbreak, so I would not attribute my sleep issues to Claritin, nor am I more or less thirsty than usual. It does seem to do something subtle and lessen the severity of my allergies, but honestly, I don’t notice much difference. What I plan to do is get a Neti pot, steam inhaler, and air purifier and have them be a part of my daily regimen. I used to surf and be in the saltwater daily, and my lifestyle has changed. It is only since I stopped surfing that I am an allergy sufferer! So I believe salt water is the cure and keeping active and drinking tons of water."

For Urticaria "I had chronic hives for over 10 years, frequent and fairly severe. Cold helped to reduce the symptoms, but nothing reduced the frequency. When I started taking loratadine for unrelated allergies, I was very pleased to find that the hives went away, for the most part. Every now and then I will have a few, but not all that often and not as severe. This stuff works for me. Yeah!"

Loratadine for Allergic Rhinitis "24-hour pill, and I still have 14 hours to go. Fluttering of the heart has made this drug very uninviting. Head is more stuffed now than when I started it. Not a very comfortable feeling. Headache, stuffy nose, jitters, and some stomach discomfort. Use caution."
