For Cough "Out of a dozen over-the-counter and homebrew/natural remedies for persistent cough (which lasted well after any other symptoms of the cold virus/mild flu that I experienced a month or more ago) that I tried, Mucinex DM is the only one to give me any real relief from an urge to cough through the day. I sleep just fine but don't feel anything like postnasal drip, or acid reflux or any obvious culprit. I did go to the clinic that I could afford to, got a shot, an inhaler, and an antibiotic script. That worked a bit, for about a week, but when the cough came back, Mucinex did just about the same job. Not a perfect solution by any means, but when I compared it to the other brands of things tried, it was fine."

For Cough "I have taken Mucinex for many years with no ill effects, but during this latest bout with chest congestion, when I took it, each of the three times, I experienced horrible, horrible nightmares. My adult daughter had a similar experience when taking it a few months ago. Was this a new 'batch' of ingredients, or were alternatives used? I have no idea what might have caused this reaction, but I am very wary of trying it again."

For Cough "This has to be the worst cough medicine ever, it actually made my cough worse. Switched to Robitussin and immediately noticed the difference in relief. I'm not one to review, but this one needed to go down in the books. Don't take Mucinex..."

For Bronchitis "I think it is a great medicine for me. Many say yes and no, it depends on the person. I have COPD. It really helps this old guy. If it doesn't work for you, don't take it simple, it’s as that. Don't bash it, 'cause it may very well work for someone else, quit. The old guy."

For Bronchitis "Mucinex definitely helped break up the congestion, and I started being able to cough up thick mucus. Do not take a suppressant if you have a chesty cold or bronchitis, as it hinders you from getting mucus up and out of you. I drank lots of hot tea with honey and lemon, which I believed also helped. I doubled my vitamin C. I'm 60, and until this, I hadn’t been ill in over 12 years, not even a runny nose."

"I took this for muscle pain and soreness, which is a common off-label use recommended by my doctor. While it was pretty effective for relaxing muscles, it caused very bad sleeplessness, even when taking an Ambien. I had to stop use, as insomnia made the muscle pain worse! Catch-22..."

"Within 12 hours of taking Mucinex, sinus ×2 tablets every 4-6 hours, nasal airways have cleared, no postnasal drip or runny nose, more energy, less sneezing. I thoroughly recommend. Please try and stick to taking ×2 every 4/6 hours."

"You'll almost always notice a medicinal smell in your urine when you use the nasal (orange) form of Mucinex. The drug it contains is processed through the kidneys, and it doesn't all get metabolized, especially the extended-release tablets. It tends to make me a bit woozy as well, but at least I can breathe!"

For Cough "I would give this a zero out of ten if it was possible. I rarely get sick, but I have been having a lot of trouble with a runny nose and coughing up mucus. This 'medicine' doesn't do anything. Not only does it taste terrible, but it's useless. Followed instructions, and I'm on day 7 with the same problems. Avoid this stuff."

For Cough "I had a cough with a runny nose. I thought it was going into my chest, so I took a Mucinex D. It made me cough up whatever little bit was in my chest, but made my sinuses and my head so full of mucus I can't breathe through my nose. The Mucinex D made me feel much worse. I’m not taking it again."

For Cough "I took this attempting to get rid of a cough and chest congestion. I am a 105 lb 30-year-old female. I took one pill yesterday and felt a little better. That was a half dose, so today I tried 2 pills, a full dose. After feeling nauseous for several hours, I finally threw up several times and am feeling much better. I will not be taking it again and would rather allow the congestion to run its course."

For Cough "If you want “medicine” that is completely useless and doesn’t even remotely do a single thing at all, this is the perfect “medicine” for you! It is WORTHLESS. If you don’t want your symptoms to improve at all, take this worthless excuse for “medicine!” You won’t be disappointed!"

For Cough "I highly recommend drinking large amounts of water with this medication. I was not aware to do so because it was nowhere to be found on the label, and it resulted in vomiting and the runs. After hours of this and speaking with a nurse, I was able to get it under control. Will not ever take again."

"When I first started using Mucinex, an oval-shaped pill, about seven years ago for cough congestion, they worked great. As the years progressed, whenever I had similar symptoms, Mucinex worked less and less. I switched to the liquid formula about three years ago with the same results. I am on day three of using Mucinex congestion and cough medicine. I will never take this medicine again because I feel a lot worse after starting it. I can't sleep because of excessive coughing that I didn't originally have, headache, which I rarely get, and nausea. Not worth it. I'll try home remedies the next time."

For Bronchitis "The jury is still out, but three days in now (pill form, max strength, 1200 mg) and I'm still coughing up little to no mucus. The little bit of mucus that I am expelling I attribute more to the humidifier than to Mucinex."

For Bronchitis "First, this is not the medicine if you have bronchitis, this condition is the excessive coughing that will make your chest hurt without medicine. Taking guaifenesin, which is the ingredient that loosens phlegm & makes you cough MORE. Bronchitis does NOT need this kind of help, you are coughing as a result of bronchitis. Taking guaifenesin will make you cough up bits of lung tissue along with any phlegm. If your phlegm has red in it - STOP taking this stuff & go see a doctor - you may need to go on antibiotics especially if your bronchitis has not improved after 3 weeks. Take it from me, I waited until 5 weeks & my doc said, 'WHY DIDN'T YOU COME IN SOONER?' I said I thought it would go away, but it didn't. The doc said - lucky I came in when I did, 'cause if I had gone longer - it may have turned into rheumatic fever, which is very dangerous left untreated. Normal phlegm, it's fine for, but if it makes you cough so much you are having your lunch come up - it's too potent, and you need to see a doctor!"

For Cough "Seriously, the worst! Slightly numbs my tongue but not my throat. I’ve never tried a cough drop that doesn’t work. I thought because it’s a good brand they’d be great. But it’s awful. Now I’m sick and snowed in, so I can’t go to the store and stuck with these horrible cough drops!"

For Cough "The packaging for Mucinex is a horrible nightmare. I could not open the bottle. I did the usual push down and turn knob, but it was impossible. My doctor suggested this and other drugs and antibiotics, but I couldn’t get it open - I am so sick that I took a knife to the lid, but it only produced a small slit. So I squeezed the bottle but only got a little out. This is a nightmare, and I will never buy this again. Zero time on medication as I could not get to it."

For Bronchitis "I wouldn't give this product a single star if I had the choice. I took 2 Mucinex FM capsules at 5 pm. I woke at 3 am with the worst hives I have ever had over at least half of my body. They were worst on the front of my thighs, the back of my upper arms, and my stomach and back. The itch was almost unbearable. I rubbed on Antihistamine, which helped a little. I even had a couple of welts by my left eye. It was 9 am the next day before I was itch-free and hive-free. It was frightening to have such an adverse reaction, not normal for me at all. The packet of meds has gone into the rubbish bin. Never again!"

For Bronchitis "I have read multiple scientific studies of Mucinex comparing it to placebo. Scientists claim there was zero benefit from Mucinex. The drug is expensive and does not have any clinical test results they can point to about its efficacy. You are much better off inhaling steam, drinking plenty of fluids, sleeping with a humidifier, and using some kind of prescription bronchodilator like Flovent to keep your lungs from getting tight. In severe cases, you should probably try prednisone in the form of pills or try a bronchodilator. Over-the-counter medication is a poor substitute for seeing your doctor and taking the medicine that actually works!"

"Have been taking the 600 mg 12-hr extended-release bi-layer tablets for the last month. I take that during the day and take the Mucinex DM for the nighttime. It's effective for 50% of the 12-hour timeframe. It does dehydrate me, so I have to constantly drink water to not feel parched. I was diagnosed with COPD (emphysema) 11 months ago, and my condition has progressed. So the Mucinex isn't managing the increased mucus/phlegm buildup, especially at night."
