Dextromethorphan for Cough "First time trying this cough medicine. Had a persistent cough for more than 2 weeks, so I decided to try it as I hadn’t been sleeping well due to my persistent coughing. The medicine works great on getting rid of the cough, however, it comes with the side effect of feeling drunk yet high at the same time. I am very lethargic initially an hour after taking it. However, then I have this mental clarity phase where I become very focused and productive about 5 to 6 hours after taking the medicine. I will continue to use it for my cough as it works and because I don’t mind the side effects."

For Cough "Took my first dose last night before bed since I have been having a nagging cough from allergies. Helped suppress the cough a little (not completely), but I was up on and off all night with anxiety, nausea, night sweats, and of course, coughing. It is now 2 pm the following day, and I have been extremely dizzy all day and have been having very gassy diarrhea and stomach cramps. I have been stuck at home all day feeling bad. Will never use this medication again. I prefer coughing over vertigo and diarrhea."

For Cough "This worked great for my husband until he gave me his cold. I used this medicine and was somewhat relieved but had extremely uncomfortable gas and diarrhea. I thought I had a worse strain of virus and took the medicine again the next day. Within 45 minutes, my stomach problems that had quit the night before returned with a vengeance. Dextromethorphan was the only ingredient I haven't used before without this reaction. Unless it's a new red dye allergy, I'm never taking anything with this ingredient again."

Dextromethorphan for Cough "Due to a medical condition, I was told this was the safest cough suppressant for me to take. I took it before bed and woke up in the middle of the night extremely nauseous. Although it did suppress my cough, I can do without the nausea!"

For Cough "I took Delsym for a cough that was bothering me. It didn't stop the cough, but within a half hour, I had terrible diarrhea. At first, I didn't make the connection, but the next morning, I tried it again and got the same results. It's a waste of money, and there are no redeeming qualities to it."

Dextromethorphan "I’m getting over the last symptoms of COVID, and I had a persistent cough, so my parents recommended I take Delsym. Well, it did its job, I didn’t have a cough, but I had way more side effects than I would’ve liked. I felt extremely off balance and like I was floating. I had bad diarrhea, a rapid heart rate, and even after working 5 hours, I had anxiety and couldn’t sleep that night, and that was hours after taking it! Crazy experience, felt like I was on actual drugs. Probably won’t be taking it again."

Dextromethorphan for Cough "On the wee early hours of Sept. 12, 2020, I ended up in the ER after taking the recommended dose for an adult (10 ml) of Delsym. This cough syrup made me violently sick and caused me to pass out. Long story short, I ended up with right side facial fractures and right shoulder area pain. I've never in my entire life ever had a drug reaction until this. It caused me nausea for 2 days that followed, weakness, and confusion. I can't believe this product is allowed to be purchased OTC. It is toxic and should have a warning label on it. I hope others don't go through what I did."

Dextromethorphan for Cough "My six-year-old daughter is an asthmatic, and the coughing she does while having a cold or flu tends to trigger it. I wanted to try a cough medicine just for bedtime to help her sleep comfortably without coughing spells. Sure enough, Delsym did the trick! I had tried Mucinex and several others for children, but felt they only made it worse. Within 35 minutes, the coughing had stopped. I give Delsym an 8 out of 10 because it doesn't last the full 12 hours, but close to it. My daughter had no side effects as far as bowel movements, gas, or hives. Just a cured cough."

For Cough "My husband had a nasty cough for days that wouldn't go away and kept him up all night. He tried a couple of different over-the-counter medicines, but his cough increasingly got worse. Someone recommended Delsym, which he tried, and FINALLY he got the best night's sleep...not one coughing episode all night!! I would truly recommend it to anyone who's sleep-deprived with a nasty cough and a worried spouse."

For Cough "Took Robitussin syrup right before bed and woke up at 4 am and found out I’d pooped the bed, and it was watery. Probably the most disgusting experience of my life. Would not recommend. Dextromethorphan definitely caused me diarrhea."

Dextromethorphan for Cough "Delsym 12-hour cough medicine should be avoided at all costs. I wish I had never taken it. At first, it seemed to work, but then came the diarrhea, nausea, and dizziness. I had trouble sleeping while taking this product. After 2 doses, it triggered a histamine reaction as well. Before taking this product, my only ailment was a lingering cough from having a cold. After taking Delsym, I'm still dealing with the cough, but now I also have diarrhea, and all the symptoms that come with full-blown allergies. I can't wait until my body completely purges this horrible product from my system."

Dextromethorphan for Cough "I took this medicine for a cough so I could sleep well before a final exam. I'm now up at 3 a.m. with diarrhea, intense stomach cramps, and I'm so dizzy I can't walk. It's also impossible to sleep because of how panicked it's making me feel. I made myself worse by taking this. Beware."

For Cough "I am currently trying to get over a very nasty cold. I couldn't handle the coughing anymore, so I bought Delsym. I took it before, years ago, with no problems. It made the cough worse before it started to help. It made me drowsy. I napped and was cough-free during that time. Maybe 3 hours. Then I woke up not feeling 'right.' I started to feel hot and had some stomach cramping. I got up to go pee, and all of a sudden, it's like I lost all control of my body. I started sweating uncontrollably and started falling and passing out repeatedly. My muscles tensed up, and I couldn't move. I finally came to long enough to stand up and immediately got horrible diarrhea. I still feel totally out of it. Make sure you have someone to monitor you if you take it."

Dextromethorphan for Cough "I took Delsym once and didn't help cough, decided to try a second dose more than 12 hours later, still no help, but now have explosive diarrhea. (Not ideal when you have a bad cough!) Would not recommend."

Dextromethorphan for Cough "It's been years since I've taken any Robitussin. I should have stayed with just the Tussin. This was Robitussin DM nighttime, but has the same active ingredient of dextromethorphan. I did not have much in my stomach, so that may have been the problem. But it's been 24 hours, and I still have diarrhea, but it was worst while sleeping and waking up after it was too late... FOUR times. That has never happened to me in my life. The cough syrup was the only new thing. I've been dehydrated all day, drinking Pedialyte, and rice and bananas. At least I'm making it to the bathroom. Never again! Ugh! Remember, your small intestines are 22 ft long, so it could take 2 days to get out of your system! Not ever taking the chance again."

Dextromethorphan for Cough "Took Delsym for the first time on 02/19. I felt high, family said I was childlike. No memory. Wasn't sure what caused it. The second time I took it was 09/19. After taking it, my family said I was acting really weird. No memory of it, but I acted drunk, and my daughter took a video to show me. I was crying because my vision was blurred and also not being able to get orange juice out of the cup. I was saying I want my mom and making things out of toilet paper. They said it was pitiful. Talking like a kid, my balance was off, kept feeling like liquid was coming out of my ear. Horrible head and muscle aches. I didn't get diarrhea like others but got dehydrated. Had sleep where you wake up thinking it had been hours but also had vivid dreams. Slept 12 hours. Didn't take the cough away. My head felt like someone was squeezing it and trying to pop my eyes out. Felt like I had been drinking last night, and I don't drink at all. I know it was the Delsym, and looking up the side effects, I fall under the overdose category. I didn't take the full dose."

Dextromethorphan for Cough "I was sleeping in the recliner and coughing no matter what I tried. This worked very well. I think it might be the best 12 hours of relief I have had from coughing. Slight diarrhea but so worth the cough relief. I would take this again when that sick with a cough."

Dextromethorphan "My son had chronic ear infections when he was little and continues to have them every time he gets a cold. He is now 30 years old and continues to use Delsym 12 Hour Cough Syrup to avoid an ear infection. He takes a dose at night and a dose in the morning at onset of a cold. As the cold begins to subside, he stops the dose in the morning and just takes it at night until the cold is completely gone. I've told a lot of people about it, and only one person has told me that it didn't work. I have taken Delsym myself, and neither of us have experienced feeling drugged or have had the explosive diarrhea that others on these reviews have spoken of. Everyone is different as to what they can tolerate. It thins the mucus so it can drain properly and not cause the infection. I'm no doctor but just figured it out on my own years ago when I was told that it thins the mucus. I had him try it, and he has been avoiding ear infections ever since. Beats antibiotics and surgeries."

Dextromethorphan for Cough "I had a very bad cold to the point of settling in my chest. I took Delsym 12 hour to help. I couldn't believe it really worked to keep my cough at bay, but I started to have severe side effects from it. I had dizziness like I was going to blackout, heart palpitations, SOB (shortness of breath), diarrhea, and vomiting at the same time (sitting on the toilet and holding a bucket at the same time wanting to pass out from the dehydration). Never again, I'll stick with Creomulsion."

Dextromethorphan for Cough "Developed a cold that just wouldn't go away and that turned into a cough. Took Vicks, Mucinex, NyQuil, but nothing controlled the cough well. Decided to try Delsym, and while it did control the cough much better than the others, I woke up in the early hours of the morning with extreme diarrhea, awful, awful cramping, and sweating to death. I literally sat on the toilet for an hour dry heaving because the pain was so bad. It was terrible. For the next 24 hours, my stomach just hurt trying to recover. I only thought I had gotten minor food poisoning, but this morning when I had just liquid bowel movements again, I decided to search reviews since that's the only thing that has changed. I am definitely going to stop taking."

Dextromethorphan for Cough "I have been referred to this medication by two separate pharmacists at two different times, but my experience has not been positive. I caught a cough from my husband. I didn’t take anything for it at first, but couldn’t sleep, so I explained my issue to the pharmacist who recommended it. I took the prescribed dose, and within minutes, I was coughing so hard that I had difficulty getting my breath. It was scary. This violent coughing went on for about 20 to 25 minutes and then stopped. I was able to sleep for about 5 to 6 hours, and when I woke up, I had a headache. I could feel the headache through my sinuses and at the back of my head. I put a warm washcloth over my forehead for a while, which helped a little, but the headache did not go away over 3 hours from waking; so I’ll have to take an Aleve when I finish this review. One thing I noticed is that my cough, which was a dry cough, has now gone to my chest."
