"If you read this, just know that I've done the same before taking this medication, because I WAS SO SCARED. I have strong emetophobia and I was literally crying when I knew that I have chlamydia. Just because I would have to take antibiotics and possibly vomit or feel nauseous afterwards. So I took it around 7 days after the diagnosis. I ate a meal and a few pieces of rice cake before taking it. I took preventive nausea medication, then a large cup of water. I literally expected the worst and guess what? NOTHING HAPPENED. No nausea, no diarrhea, no stomach pain. Just a little bit of fever, but nothing horrible! I'm 24 hours past it and I feel perfect! I know emetophobia is a pain, but don't let it affect your health. Take this medication after eating, with water, a preventive nausea pill, and you will be okay! ♥️"

"After having unprotected sex with two different men in one night (I do NOT recommend), I figured something bad would happen. After finally going to the doctor because my vag felt inflamed and swollen, I was diagnosed with chlamydia and given azithromycin. After taking it on an empty stomach (again, would not recommend), about an hour later, my stomach was hurting so bad. I also got hot flashes and my pulse elevated, but I was graced with no diarrhea, unlike others on here. I decided I was not going to deal with it anymore and forced myself to sleep and woke up feeling so much better in the morning. Hopefully this did the trick and I'm cleared of the infection. NEVER having sex again."

"I took this medicine, azithromycin, when I was diagnosed with chlamydia. DO NOT let the reviews scare you, like I did! I put it off for a month because I was so scared. I had ZERO side effects! Just make sure you eat before taking."

"This is the second time I've had to take a single dose of 1000 mg of azithromycin. The first time was Zithromax, and today I took the generic version. Both times I had pretty much the same experience: I had some pretty painful cramping and bloating within 1 hour of taking it, and 2 hours later I had to rush to the toilet. After the first time on the toilet, I felt a lot better, I literally felt like my entire digestive system had been cleaned out. After another 2 hours, I was on the toilet again, not as bad as the first time. All in all, I'm giving it a rating of 10/10 because let's face it, a bit of diarrhea for getting rid of chlamydia is a small price to pay. If anything, I'll be making sure I never have to be in this situation again."

"The largest inconvenience about this drug for me was trying to read everyone else’s negative review before I took the 1-gram dose, and I had anxiety about it for HOURS before I realized taking this will do good. The only side effects I had from this drug were some watery stools and some intestinal noise. Whoever is reading this, you’re probably scared to take it because you never have and wanted to know. Unless you have heart problems or other medications known to react with this: it is safe to take, and for the love of Odin, take it with a lot of food and water. Friends of mine once had to take it too, and they said they felt no different. You will be alright. You may experience stomach issues and nausea for a little bit, but all in all, you will survive. You got this! I gave the medication a 7 because, again, anxiety over all of the horror stories."

"I'm sharing this to dim the fear in everyone's head from the rest of these comments. I took this medication because I found out I had chlamydia. I was extremely anxious because I have horrendous allergies to a lot of antibiotics. I had four 250g white pills in the clinic free of charge and expected the worst. So, I took the medication at 9:30 in the morning. By 10, I felt like I was gonna throw up but didn't, the nausea lasted 30 mins max. I got home by 11, went straight to bed, woke up around 2, and was fine. It's currently the next day, and I have had one dump (not diarrhea), and I've had no other issues. There's hope after all! Enjoy being chlamydia-free, everyone."

Azithromycin "Soooo, I get a call saying I need to get checked, and of course I'm all butt hurt because I've had like one fling in my whole life, and of course it's the only guy I didn't use protection with. So I go in, I get tested. I get the results. It's chlamydia. My doctor prescribes me the drink powder, and honestly, taking the medicine was terrible because the powder doesn't dissolve all the way, so I had to keep refilling my glass. I gagged a lot, so just be careful with it. I ate right after I took it, and it took about 30 minutes for the stomach cramps to start in. They were pretty uncomfortable, but I didn't get diarrhea, just the cramps. It's not great, but I mean, it's the price I pay. Just gonna sleep it off. And probably never have sex again."

Azithromycin "I had pharyngitis and chlamydia, which was a double whammy. This is my second time taking these meds. The first time, not really any side effects, but this time, when I was on my last pill to take, I had terribly bad vomiting and diarrhea. Couldn't even keep water down. The next morning, I puked after drinking water, went to sleep, woke up, and felt better. Drank water again and am getting that pit feeling again. It did cure everything, though. This is to be continued..."

Azithromycin "Took this last week under the directions of my pharmacist. I ate a full dinner (burger and some veg) and waited 45 minutes to an hour before taking my 4 large pink pills. My pharmacist and my doctor both recommended staying away from dairy in the meal before I took the pills. Went to bed feeling a little nauseous, but that could have been nerves because of all the reviews on here. I slept through the night, totally fine. No diarrhea, no vomiting. Got my lab results back this morning, and I'm in the clear."

"Did anyone experience extreme inflammation or what appeared like bloating or weight gain the week after the 1-day, 4-pill dose? I’m six days in, and man, am I bloated. I feel like I put on 20 pounds. Been drinking lots of water and taking probiotics. Just wondering if anyone experienced this too."

"Week after hookup, found out I had Chlamydia when my pee started burning and constantly discharging a white pus. Was prescribed this medication as a single dose, took on a Sunday afternoon, minor stomach grumbling, then an unpleasant headache at night which felt like intense pressure/fever and put me to sleep. Woke up next day, headache was gone, and by end of day, started to notice improvement in burning while peeing. By day 3, discharge was much more infrequent and burning pee was almost gone, nowhere near as intense. By Friday, which was day 6, burning pee was gone and no discharge at all, life was back to normal, lol. Never had any diarrhea or uncontrollable stomach pain, just a little nauseated the first 24 hours. Very effective med for me."

"Took the one dose of azithromycin, the two 500mg tablets, and it caused me to have a bowel movement almost constantly for over a week, reminded me of having period cramps. Also, it had made me start my period early and have an extra heavy flow that lasted 4 days longer than my 3-day average. Also, it had made me break out on my face, chest, and shoulders so bad. I’m 23 and I haven’t broken out that bad since I’d been in middle school. The antibiotics, however, did the job despite the side effects."

"OK, had to write a review after seeing so many horror stories. My side effects were minimal, about an hour and a half after taking the 4 tablets at once, as prescribed, my stomach hurt and I felt only a little sick. I laid in bed and just rode it out by napping. When I woke up, I had one minor episode of diarrhea, and then, done. It was definitely nothing like some of the bad experiences I've read on here. Many folks review because they had a bad experience, and folks who have no side effects tend to not care enough to report their non-eventful experience. Keep that in mind if you're nervous! Definitely worth the 30 minutes of a little stomach ache to make yourself healthy. Just eat beforehand and after, you will be solid. It was no big deal."

"First time taking the medicine. Two pills, 500 mg. I took the pills while cooking and ate immediately after. I laid down for a nap and fell asleep. I woke up with a strong sensation to throw up. I had to fight it for a while because I was afraid if I threw up, the medicine wouldn't work. Severe stomach pain as well. No other symptoms from my experience."

"If you were embarrassed about getting chlamydia, consider that this is my second time getting it. That aside, the first time I took azithromycin, I was so scared about the high dosage and nausea that I could barely eat before taking it. I had just some plain bread and water and slept. I had one loose BM in the morning, and that was it. This second time, I felt confident enough to eat a full meal beforehand and woke up feeling bloated, nauseous, and terrible. It passed in about an hour, and then I was fine. Again, one loose BM in the morning and nothing since then. Only complaint is how long azithromycin took to clear my chlamydia symptoms, it took over a week last time, and I’m so itchy already that I’m going a little crazy. It’s day three since my dose, and I can’t wait for it to kick in completely."

"I took 4 doses of this today, all at once, for chlamydia, as I am infected. I took 4 250 mg doses. I looked on this website before taking to find out side effects and other people's experiences, and I was absolutely terrified of taking them. But I took them anyway, obviously, as I want rid of the infection. I took them at about 9 o'clock this morning, and I have had absolutely no side effects whatsoever. No dizziness, no stomach pain, no diarrhea. I have had a bit of nausea, but I put that down to being because I was hungry, so I ate and felt fine. I hope that it is as effective as I have been told. I will post an update in a week or two when I receive results, hopefully they will be negative."

"My boyfriend slept with so many girls before we started dating, and so when we started our relationship, we also got active in sex without using protection. I was only on birth control. Then I was seeing the doctor because I always had painful sex, which came out to be vaginismus, and when the doctor took my test, they also found out that I had chlamydia. I felt ashamed of myself, and I had to tell my boyfriend that he needed to get checked up. My doctor sent me 2 tablets of chlamydia 500 mg to take at once. I took it before eating and then I ate a lot and drank plenty of water. That was yesterday, and I have not had any side effects so far. I was even able to travel from OH to KY. So far, so good. I think our bodies respond differently to the medication... Please practice safe sex."

"This is my first time having chlamydia and my last time. Went to the clinic, took the medicine around 3:50 pm. Last ate at 1 pm, and I started work at 5 pm. I was fine until I drank soda at work, and it's been hell since then. I'm gassy, having streaks of stomach pains, diarrhea, and trying to not regurgitate. Unprotected sex is not worth it. No one is worth it."

"After finding out that I had a Chlamydia infection, my first reaction was to look up the drugs that treat it. A year ago, I had a different bacterial infection that I was treated for by a different medication. I had a severe reaction to it and spent the night in the emergency room. Ever since that day, I have been terrified to take new types of medication, especially ones for bacterial infections. My doctor prescribed me this medication, and after reading the reviews, I was terrified. I postponed taking it for 3 days because I was scared. Then I ate some toast and ginger tea right before I took it. DO NOT BE SCARED OF THIS MEDICATION. I had minimal side effects and was fine. All I had was some slight loose stools. The hardest part about taking this medication was controlling the anxiety. Everyone is different and tolerates medication differently. The reviews on here that are horror stories are rare. As long as you eat something before taking the pills, you should be fine. GOOD LUCK :)"

"I got diagnosed with chlamydia, and they prescribed me azithromycin, four 250 mg pills, and it said to take them all at once. I took them on an empty stomach, and 10 minutes after, I started having intense stomach cramps and felt nauseous. The cramps were so bad I had to have my boyfriend drive home, and it hurt to walk. The cramping was in the middle lower part of my stomach, and eventually, my lower stomach area had pain, and also I was pooping out just water - it felt like I was peeing out of my butt. The pain was bad, and it lasted for hours. I was on the floor in pain. Not sure if it worked yet, today was my first day taking it."

"I was reading the reviews for this medication 30 minutes after I had ingested it. I can't deny, I was a little bit worried while reading the side effects, especially because I took it with only having eaten two cookies and a banana. Surprisingly, I had not a single side effect. I was not throwing up, nor did I have diarrhea or an upset stomach. I was actually hungry. I ate peacefully and happily ate Chinese food and cheesecake without a single issue. I will say I noticed an increased amount of discharge, not yellow like I was having before, but it was kind of white/clear thick. My guess is my vagina is cleansing itself and clearing out everything inside. I would highly recommend this, it's quick, easy, and simple."

"I got diagnosed the beginning of this month. After reading these reviews, I was terrified of taking the meds. I took them, and I was ready for the worst pain I have ever felt, but actually, I had none. I was perfectly fine all night, and I slept through the night. I woke up and pooped through my day, no side effects at all. Just take the meds, you will be fine."

"So I was prescribed four of these little delights as a precautionary measure and figured, hey, better safe than sorry, right? I frequently get throat infections and take antibiotics for them, so I figured my body should be pretty well accustomed and that I would be completely fine. I had a light snack and took the pills before bed. An hour or two passed with no symptoms, and I was relieved as I was pretty worried about feeling nauseous after my pharmacist had warned me I most likely would. I feel fairly gassy as I'm going to sleep, but figure that's pretty normal and harmless... fast forward a few hours, and I wake up feeling wet because I pooped the bed. Here I am, humiliated, frequently visiting the bathroom, wearing a makeshift diaper of pads."
