"I had to post a review. Everybody's body is different. I was prescribed two 500 mg azithromycin pills and was told I could take them in one dose. I already ate prior to taking the pill before bed, but I decided to take them and eat a little after to help ease myself. Didn't do anything. I woke up to the WORST stomach pains I've ever had in my life. I took some pain medicine to help ease the stomach pains, so I'm just waiting for it to kick in. This is definitely teaching me a lesson. Wear condoms."

"I sadly got chlamydia again and was once again prescribed two 500 mg tablets to be taken at once. After about an hour of taking them, I felt like I was going to die, my stomach hurt so bad I couldn't walk, and taking deep breaths hurt so bad. It's a stomach pain I wouldn't wish on anyone. I'm surprised I didn't throw up because I came so close to losing it like four times. Please use protection from now on, I know I will. CAUTION!! DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING PLANNED FOR AT LEAST 3-4 HOURS AFTER TAKING!!"

"I was prescribed 2 azithromycin pills to cure my chlamydia. I took the two pills together, followed by water, and at least 15 mins later, I started to feel nauseous. So I laid down, however, I felt like that was only making it worse. So I sat up, the nausea went away, but then I started to get stomach cramps through the lower part of my stomach. I’m now having diarrhea and a slight headache. I’m going to continue staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water, hopefully, it’ll help. I’m just glad I was able to get the pills to get this over with. Considering everything, I don’t mind the side effects as long as I’m cured."

"Just today I found out I got it, and my doctor has prescribed the 4 pills to take at once. I got home around 9:30 and took the 4 pills, then I had a small salad. Immediately, I started to feel like I have to throw up. Then my stomach starts to hurt horribly, hearing my stomach make all these weird noises and sounds. Then I started getting a ridiculous amount of gas out of nowhere. These side effects are the worst, I swear."

"So I took the 4 pink pills at the clinic, was feeling great that I was getting rid of this infection. 1 hour later, I had eaten a sandwich, like 30 mins later, man, did I feel nauseous, as if I had eaten something really greasy. I felt it in my throat, it wasn't like I had to throw up, but I had the sensation. I didn't want to throw up, 'cause hey, I already took these pills, don't wanna ruin the effect. Then I got the sensation I had to poo bad. I got diarrhea. Let's just hope these pills work!!! Side effects caught me off guard, 'cause this is my first time experiencing this. But hope my review helps others going through the same!"

"I usually don't do reviews on medication, but I felt the need to write a review because of all the horrible experiences people say they had. After Googling about azithromycin, I was so scared to take it. I have a phobia of vomiting, so reading about how almost every person who wrote a review claimed they threw up made me so nervous to the point of tears. To reassure everyone who has the same phobia as me or is concerned, I felt no nausea whatsoever. I took the liquid azithromycin at 2:00 am after a small meal last night. I will admit about an hour after, I got minor stomach cramps that subsided after eating a few saltine crackers. That was the only side effect I experienced: no diarrhea, no nausea, no 'labor pains.'"

"Found out at my 6-month checkup that I had chlamydia, asked for the 4-pills-at-once deal. This is my first and ONLY time I will ever contract this again, so I was very eager to get this over with. I was prescribed 4 pills of 250 mg azithromycin, took them around 2:00 pm, and around 5:00 pm, I started experiencing diarrhea to the max. Haven't gotten off the toilet since, and it's now 6:30 pm, but I'm confident it will go away and just thankful I no longer have chlamydia."

"Found out I have chlamydia this morning, doctor prescribed 2 pills, 500 MG. I ate chicken soup, and now, two hours later, I'm sitting on the toilet with the worst abdominal cramps ever and diarrhea. I hope it works!!"

"I took four 250 mg azithromycin pills, 4 hours ago (for chlamydia). I have mild-moderate IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). Honestly, it's not as bad as these reviews make it seem. Within the first 2 minutes of swallowing the pills, I felt my stomach frothing up, like Mentos in Coke. Bubbling and making fizzing sounds. Oddly enough, even with an annoying urge to burp that stayed with me for about an hour and a half and only went away for about an hour before coming back, I still cannot burp, I have only burped once. Secondly, the worst, and by far the most uncomfortable side effect, is mild nausea, with the feeling of gas/air moving around in your stomach and intestines. P.S., none of these symptoms have anything to do with my IBS, if anything, I thought this experience would be 5 times worse because of my IBS."

"So I found out I had this (like everyone else on here). I had eaten pretty well through the day (fried food though). I got a shot on the right side of my buttocks and felt nothing. I went to CVS pharmacy to get the two pills, 500 mg (must take both at the same time equaling 1000 mg!). I didn’t feel much until (even managed to cook some spaghetti). HOWEVER, about 2 hours later, I felt funny, got hot as anything, had nausea, laid down, mouth formed with saliva, then it hit me like a rocket. I was like, 'OMG, you gotta run to the bathroom!' Thankfully, no one was in there as I sure did poop a lot - like never before, and then it was coming out like pee. I got scared in fear I might get dehydrated. After all the pooping, I felt a little stronger, so I took a shower and washed my hair. Now I’m lying in bed scared to eat the spaghetti I cooked due to the extreme diarrhea. Scary, lmao. Definitely wrapping it up from now on!!! Not worth the stomach cramps, pains, and diarrhea."

"Second time having chlamydia and absolutely the last! First time round I suffered from terrible diarrhea, to the point where I actually couldn't hold it in (how embarrassing). Now it has been around 3 hours, and I have a mild stomach ache, and I feel sleepy. The drug is effective, as I already know, but the side effects are a pain. Couldn't stress enough to just have protected sex, none of this is worth it, and boys can and will lie! Stay safe."

"When I say this is the WORST pain I have ever felt in my life, and I just gave birth to twins not even a year ago. Literally to the point where I’m just going to buy some Depends and lay in bed and poop on myself for the rest of the day. I’ve been to the bathroom a total of 10 times in the last 35 minutes. Been burping since 9 am when I took the meds. People just use a condom, cause this is for the birds!"

"I went to the doctor's because of abnormal bleeding and got a urine test for chlamydia. He called me about a week later, saying that I tested positive and needed to pick up a prescription for one dosage of two 500 mg tablets. It was about an hour and a half later when I started feeling nauseous and had cramping. I went to the toilet and felt like I pooped all the liquids out of me (it was not pleasant). Now it's been about 5 hours since then, and I'm still feeling a little off and have cramping, but it's bearable. Hope everyone is alright and chlamydia-free!"

"This is my second time having chlamydia. I've taken the two pills, and once again I am stuck on the toilet! But I recommend this pill. Yes, the day you take it, your stomach will be awful, but it's so worth it. A huge weight is lifted off my shoulders now that I don't have chlamydia."

"Doctors told me I had a yeast infection that medicine didn’t work, then, come to find out, I have chlamydia. My doctors gave me 2 pills (azithromycin). I took them, and 2 hours later, I was getting ready for bed after eating a salad, feeling great, then here come these weird pains in my stomach. I couldn’t sleep, so I started watching TV, then, boom! I’m running to the bathroom full speed because it felt like I was going to use it on myself. Now, as I type this, I am stuck on the toilet with bad diarrhea."

"Took the treatment this morning, 4 pills at 10:30, played sports straight after till 1 pm, felt absolutely fine, then came home, and at 5:30, started feeling really ill, and ten minutes after, started vomiting and had diarrhea. It's 6:30 and still hasn't stopped. Will I need to go back and take it all again?"

"I took this medication a little over 3 hours ago, and all of a sudden started feeling nauseous and started cramping. I got in the shower, ate some bread, and drank a bottle of water, and I seem to be doing okay now. If this medication does what it's supposed to do, then it's worth it. Small price to pay for being stupid and having unprotected sex."

"Took the 4 tablets in one go yesterday and literally had zero side effects whatsoever. If people are reading this scared to take this medicine, you've got to realize people are more inclined to write reviews about a negative experience with a product than a positive one. I was a bit anxious about taking it, but genuinely there's less side effects than the reviews on this website reflect. I would advise to eat a lot before and after taking this medication to help the absorption process. That's probably why a lot of people have had abdominal pain."

"Doctor called and told me I had chlamydia today. I just got four pills of Azithromycin and took them all an hour ago. As I was driving home, I had to vomit ASAP! Pulled over on the highway and was sick for 15 mins. Now my stomach is in a lot of pain and diarrhea."

Azithromycin "Was prescribed one dose over the course of one day, took 4 pills of 250 mg after a light lunch, and had nausea and mild stomach pains/upset. Lying down did not alleviate the discomfort and threw up 3 hours later. Called my doctor to check if I needed to take another dose, but he said my body would have absorbed the pills by then. Still experiencing mild stomach pains, but nausea is mostly gone now."

"I tested positive for chlamydia and was prescribed two 500 mg of this medication. I took it on an empty stomach and was 100% fine. The only thing I noticed was my lymph nodes began to swell up and were tender because they were trying to help fight the infection. Five days in, no headache, no swollen glands, and no side effects. This medication works wonders!!!!!"

"Two hours after taking these, I started to feel like garbage. My stomach felt extremely gassy, which caused me to be in the toilet for a good 30 mins with diarrhea. It was like a faucet was turned on and my bowels let loose. Afterwards, I started to feel a lot better. I mean, I can't complain about the symptoms because at least chlamydia is curable. Rather go through this and be cured."

"For chlamydia, basically you’ll get some form of azithromycin 1000 mg, either in 2 or 4 pills. Usually, it’s a single dose, but it depends on what your provider thinks is best. Eat before you take it, you don’t have to, but it will help with stomach pain. You’ll either have intense nausea and feel like throwing up, or your stomach will start acting crazy, and you’ll probably take a watery poop. Other than that, some hours later or maybe even the next day, you will be fine as far as side effects. As far as symptoms, I took mine 2 days ago. I still feel slight symptoms when I pee, but it’s not as profound as before. I guess it hasn’t fully kicked in yet, but if by day 5 I'm not feeling better, I’ll begin to worry. They say it takes about 7 days for the antibiotic to fully work and to get retested in 3 months. Stuff that, I plan to get retested exactly 3 weeks after my initial treatment just to be safe. Simply put, it’s not as bad as it seems, you’ll more than likely be cured even if it takes multiple doses."

"18, first gyno visit, and I tested positive for chlamydia, BV, and a yeast infection. How embarrassing. For chlamydia, doc prescribed 1 dose of a 1000 mg pill of azithro. I had zero side effects. I got retested 2 months later and results came back still positive even though I abstained from sex. Treatment must not have worked :( this time around I was prescribed two 500 mg azithro pills. Take these pills at night before bed. The side effects only lasted 2 hours max. If you feel nauseous, take deep breaths and lay on your left side. I have no advice for diarrhea lol I'm still running to the bathroom. Fingers crossed it works this time."
