"I have had dry eyes for many years since 2018. I have narrow angle glaucoma and use glaucoma drops every night. I was using Hylo dry eye drops for a few years and my eyes were getting sore for no medical reason, so I chose Refresh Plus. It seems to work for my dry eyes. I use the single-use eye drops and the easy-to-use glaucoma night ones, but I found the single-use ones for Refresh Plus were harder to squeeze because I have neuropathy in my fingers. It's as if the plastic is too hard or thick. I always 'waste' the first drop of any single-use vials and then put one drop in each eye. I found that with Refresh, after that first drop, sometimes I had trouble with the second drop not coming out. Six weeks ago, I started to get sort of moving raindrops in my vision. This is under investigation, along with the floaters I already had. I doubt if it has anything to do with either eye drops, but I am searching for side effects of any eye drops or medications while waiting for a diagnosis. I am curious to read other reviews. *I never recommend meds."

"3rd day of Oasis PF Tears for dry eye. Dr. gave me 2 packages of samples. 10 vials. 3rd day of using and no relief. Luckily, I did not buy this. $25 is a lot of money for a product that is not working and making me hurt more. I have been using Oasis on my left eye and another brand on my right eye. The cheaper other brand has improved my right dry eye. Oasis, nothing."

"My eye doctor prescribed Systane for dry eye. I started using the product right after my exam, once a day, and since then I had issues with my eyes. Some kind of dizziness, sensitivity to light, and some eventual blurry vision and pain in the back of my eyes, it came and went. I went back to the doctor after one week to check what was going on, as I did not present any of those symptoms before the eye exam. The eye doctor said that I was not using the drops enough times a day. So, I used them more. But I started noticing that weird sensation in my eyes after I used them, like very heavy eyes that would last for hours. So I started to decrease the use of the drops, and my eyes seemed to be getting better, but I still have the heaviness that comes from time to time. So I started to research because I have been dealing with this for almost a month, and by reading these reviews, I am almost sure it is the drops. I am not using them anymore. Thank God it was not such a long time."

"I actually just did a search, “Systane causing grainy residue,” and I was shocked to find that other people have had side effects from these drops. I have also experienced worsened itching, burning, and blurred vision. I will not use these. I will inform the optometrist who recommended it."

"This is a rip-off scam that eye doctors get a big cut from. The doctor says you need them, and I think they are covered by insurance, and I get to the checkout counter, and they tell me how great they are, and insurance doesn't cover them, and they are $95.00. What a scam. Don't fall for this, it should be illegal. Shame on the doctors for pushing this stuff."

"I used Systane Ultra as directed by my surgery post-cataract surgery. My eyes burned and itched for several minutes after applying, but I thought it had something to do with the surgery. Then, a couple of months after surgery, I was advised to take Systane Nighttime ointment for eye dryness because I had started using a Bi-PAP machine. I tried it in one eye to start, and after the first night, my eye became irritated, and for 2 days following, it felt as though I had sand in my eye or a corneal abrasion. Both times when I reported this to my physician's office (Ultra and Nighttime Ointment), they seemed puzzled. But reading comments here, I see I'm not alone."

"Works great!!! Much better than the other Systane OTC brand drops because it contains mineral oil. A little pricey, but well worth it. One bottle lasts me months. My ophthalmologist prescribed this and Xiidra drops (Rx only) after he diagnosed me with dry eye disease (DED) caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), which is actually the main cause of DED. I also use a microwavable eye heat mask daily and Ocusoft HypoChlor, which targets the main cause of DED. These combinations of treatments have highly improved my condition."

"Bought these today for dry eyes, and as soon as I put them in, I felt the worst eye stinging I have ever felt! Horrible! Boric acid??? I want my money back and a good explanation as to why they hurt my eyes!!"

"Has severe dry eyes and my eye doctor recommended the Systane Gel Eye drops - they were uncomfortable at first to use as they seemed to make my vision a bit blurry and eyelashes sticky, but prior to using them, my eye doctor had warned me of this and recommended taking it once only before bed instead. It's a medication that isn't really supposed to be used long-term and multiple times a day (I've seen other comments where people have apparently been told to use them 4 times a day for 4 weeks, which sounds very excessive...). All in all, Systane worked well for me as I didn't use it frequently as per my eye doctor's recommendation. It would be blurry and a bit 'sticky' before bed, but in the morning my eyes did feel less scratchy, and I supplemented these with other single-use eyedrops during the day to keep my eyes nice and wet. So far so good! I've been told to use it for only two weeks and no more than that, so one more week to go and no real ill effects so far."

"I have used this product with no problem, then I got pneumonia and wow, my eyes went ballistic. Red, inflamed, puffy, itchy, and I went to the doctor. He showed me a picture of eyes with problems like mine, and the cause was Systane. I was so shocked. It is really terrible."

"I have used TheraTears since 2015 due to Sjogren's Disease. I have opted to only use the vials as I can and have used them over 4 times per day. I have never had a problem using them. No side effects and for the most part, it keeps my eyes moist."

"My experience with Systane has been nothing but positive. The drops were soothing from the second I put them in. That night, I drove my tractor-trailer from San Antonio to Dallas and back with no problems. Will monitor for any problems or issues going forward."

"Crazy. My eye doctor pushed these eye drops so hard, and using these eye drops made my eyes dryer and dryer. It took 2.5 years to discover that I should use preservative-free eye drops instead—because lo and behold, I was allergic to the regular drops! The regular drops caused more inflammation, which interfered with my normal tear production. Thousands of dollars later, a lot of pain and suffering, two ulcers on my left eye, and it was the office receptionist that suggested I try preservative-free eye drops! And, within a couple of weeks, my devastating dry eye symptoms were gone."

"I notice this week my eyes were dry, I placed 2 eye drops of Systane Ultra High Performing Dry Eye Relief in each of my eyes. Within minutes, the back right side of my head began to hurt and throb. I knew this eye drop caused the pain. I read about the main ingredient polyethylene glycol 400 0.4 can cause head pain."

"I was using Systane Ultra and Complete as recommended by my eye specialist. I also use Azopt and Lumigan drops for glaucoma. I had been using the glaucoma drops for at least 2 years without problems. Shortly after starting to use the Systane, it became very uncomfortable installing the Azopt and Lumigan drops. After approx. a couple of months of Systane use, I decided to try to figure out why my eyes had become so sensitive to light and why it hurt so much when installing my glaucoma drops. I stopped the use of Systane, and after a couple of days or so, no more eye stinging or sensitivity to light. Not everyone will have my same problems, but just giving Systane users a heads up.....Don Little"

"What a miserable experience! Something that is this expensive and preservative-free shouldn't cause such discomfort. It has been a nightmare. My eyes got swollen, irritated, and the entire eye socket area became/is bright red. I still haven't recovered from it. It looks like I got punched in the eyes. I've tried many brands and drops before and NEVER had an experience like this. I'm taking them back and will never, ever buy this brand again."

"I do not like Systane UD, as it does not help my dry eye. The drops are too thick and do not dissolve too easily in the eye. It makes my eye and around it too sticky, and I have to wash the eyelid after use. It gives me more gritty eyes. Unfortunately, I bought three boxes in one go but had to stop using them after a few days. I have to bin the rest of these expensive eye drops. Never again buy any Systane products."

"After using this product for a short time (1 day), I am displeased that after several uses, the drops leave a crusty residue under the eyes. The residue can only be removed using something oily like cold cream or mineral oil."

"I have been using Lacriserts for at least 20 years. I have dry eye from Sjögren's disease. Like other people say, they are a godsend. I have not been able to get them this last month, and I now get to be totally miserable with my dry eyes since they have absolutely no tears. This is the third time this has happened to me. It is a necessity for me. Can someone please tell me why they are not available? I am in a lot of pain, and so far this is the only medication that works for me, OTC or prescription."

"Oasis Tears Plus side effects. I think my husband and I both are experiencing reactions to this product. Both of us have redder, more sensitive, itchy reactions. Today, after a week's use, my eyes are red, and clearly, this isn't working for me. My husband isn't complaining that much. Stopping use today and going back to Systane."

"I bought one bottle of Oasis Tears PF Plus upon the recommendation of my optometrist. The product does provide good relief for dry eyes, but is VERY DIFFICULT to dispense into the eye. I have to squeeze so hard to get it out that I fear my grip will slip and I will injure my eyeball. The bottle has a nipple-type dispenser that makes no sense at all for getting a drop into your eye. What is the manufacturer thinking? I see other comments about this, so why doesn’t the manufacturer fix it?"

"Went to optometrists/opthamologist for eye exam. Said I had dry eyes. Gave me sample bottles, said to use 4 or 5 times a day for the first two weeks, then no less than 3 times a day. My eyes are swollen, vision blurry, I wake up with goo and gook in my eyes, it is awful. I stopped today. I hope it clears up soon, I drive for a living."

"Caused horrible migraines and nausea both times using drops, within 30-40 minutes of using 1 drop per eye. First time I did not think it was due to drops, second time, 2 days later, I realized the cause was the drops. Caused a migraine both times... not a headache, but full-on migraine!"

"Tried this brand (Oasis Tears Plus) as an alternate to my current dry eye medication. Shortly after inserting the drops in both eyes, I experienced some eye pressure pain, irritation, redness, and itching in both eyes, which shortly thereafter turned into a fairly prolonged headache. I tried these drops again the next day to see if these reactions persisted, and I had the same type of reaction all over again. I didn't have any of these adverse reactions with my other brand dry eye drops, so I quit using these Oasis drops immediately. Primary ingredient is glycerin, but the incipient ingredients are questionable. Do not recommend if you have drug sensitivities or allergies."

"Oasis Tears are good, doctors consider it the best. However, it is a rip-off. The vials are a disaster, you open and you lose some. The drop in your eye takes time, and you may miss your eye. Then, they are difficult to close. Finally, it becomes so expensive that it is not worth it. Don’t buy them, there are similar products that are cheaper, and they do the same job. They are very difficult to use."
