"I'm 50, and I've used other drops all my life with no problems. After a few weeks of using these drops, my eyes started burning, and I noticed my vision would get blurry at night while trying to watch TV. I never had these symptoms before using these drops, and it was getting so bad I finally decided to look at the reviews. Sure enough, I saw a lot of other people experiencing the same exact horrible side effects. I just threw mine in the trash. I just hope it didn't do any permanent damage."

"These are the best eye drops that I have used out of the many that I have tried. I think that there is more lubrication in these eye drops than in other brands that I have tried. I am using preservative-free eye drops. I have experienced burning and itching when I use any brand of eye drops that contains a preservative."

"I have allergies, and my eyes get itchy, so I thought I would try Systane to soothe my irritated eyes. When I put a drop in each eye, my eyes became blurred over, and I could not see! As it dissipated some, I could not longer read the information on the box! It damaged my eyes! I flushed my eyes out three times with water, and it still didn’t help! They felt itchy and sticky. That evening, my right eye had a lump that appeared on my lower lid, which is still there! And my eyesight from the eye drops on Friday is still not back to normal! How can a company produce a product that is not safe to use? I am going to call my attorney!"

"I bought Systane Ultra yesterday due to supposed accolades of doctors. Used it once. Eyes became increasingly red. That night all lights had halos (maybe the viscosity of the fluid?). Eyes burned when I tried to read. I read the reviews to see if any others were having similar side effects. They were. I washed my eyes with a warm baby shampoo solution last night to start ridding my eyes of the residuals. They are better this morning. Unfortunately, the experience and the experience of others have left me skeptical of Alcon products, or at least this one."

"Dr. told me to use this 2 times a day for dry eyes every 12 hrs. 1st day it seemed to help, had a bad headache. 2nd and 3rd day, by 4th day my right eye hurt and was so irritated, and my eyes were so blurry after reading these reviews. I stopped the Systane. My eyes are still bothering me, but I’m 100% sure my eyes are more blurry and irritated than they were. These drops might help some people, but I wish I would have never used them."

"Almost from the beginning, my eyes felt better for a few days, but on the third day, I noticed my eyes stayed swollen, red, began to have headaches, crust around my eyes, and now I can’t see as well, so I have to have stronger eyeglasses. Also, I noticed the outer rim around my iris continues to thicken. These drops are horrible, and I do not recommend them to anyone, and they should be taken off the market."

"This has been my brand for the past 15 years, the product is very good. But the new bottle introduced in 2022 is not working well for me, the drop that forms at the tip most of the time is too big, like 3 drops in one. The product is wasted, it also doesn't fall always vertically in the line of the tip, so there is also wasted product. The former container was better."

"Had eye exam on the 28th of July, 2022, and doc said the dry eye issue could be helped with Systane Complete PF. It has helped a little but still burning after using it 4 times a day and the gel drops at bedtime. Woke up with a headache this morning, and it has not gone away, and it is past lunchtime. Can help but think it's due to the Systane drops. Will not take anymore and would not advise anyone else to take it."

"I have been using Lacrisert for over thirty years and have not been able to get a prescription for months. I was told they are on a six-month backorder. My pharmacy has given up calling the company. I have contacted the company to no avail. I need help and don't know what to do."

"Although Systane Ultra helped to relieve my dry eyes, after using it for several days, I began experiencing eye pain, which got worse as I continued to use the product. Once I stopped using it, the pain went away. Some months later, I tried again, and after about 3 days, the same thing happened again."

"I have dry eyes and never bothered by them - until I had my second cataract surgery. I was extremely affected - light sensitive, scratchy, hard to focus and at night, really irritated. I was using the Systane Balance several times a day. Went back to the optometrist and she suggested (and gave me a sample) of the Systane Complete. After four times a day application, I noticed a 100% difference. She also suggested the ointment at night which I have started. My eyes are feeling normal and I will continue. Thank goodness!"

"Didn't have much luck with the Oasis Tears Plus because of the container. It is too hard to squeeze out of the little vial with one hand while holding your eye open. If it came in a bottle form like most others, it would probably be fine?"

"My ophthalmologist recommended this for me. She said that I had the driest eyes she'd ever seen. She said to get the individual vials vs. the single bottle. For treating my dry eyes, they are top-notch! There are no side effects. I'll use a few vials daily as needed. I find them super easy to use. Only con, pricey..."

"Gave me swollen and puffy eyelids. I quit using Systane lid wipes and Systane complete drops as they made my eyelids puffy. Now I see that Drugs.com lists this as a side effect. Don't take a chance with your eyes. Costco may have to stop stocking this product."

"The first time I used it, it created a film over both my eyes that left in seconds. My eyes felt better in minutes. It pays to buy the better brand when dealing with your eyes. We shall see down the road, but for now I feel satisfied."

"Was told to try Systane Balance after cataract surgery that resulted in dry eye. This drop is white and oily and blurred my vision. I was using it to clear blurred vision due to dry eye...not make it blurrier. Going back to Refresh Plus Preservative Free. I was hoping Systane Balance would help, but not for me. The Systane Ultra irritates my eyes too."

"I started taking Systane Ultra for dry eye, and my eyes got so red and irritated, I had to quit using it. My vision became very blurry and my eyes both really hurt. I am convinced it was preservatives in them that caused my problem. I will never use these again. I hope my eyes get better soon."

"I had a severely allergic reaction to Systane Ultra PF eye drops. I had to be on Desidone to treat the problem and had to visit my eye doctor several times. I had itching, burning, and the skin around my eyes was actually flaking off, and you couldn't remove it. If you were able to remove the dead skin, it would come right back. I spent several weeks with no sleep until I realized that this was the only thing I had changed in my routine. They should take these off the market."

"Due to ocular rosacea, my eyes are quite dry at night, so I gave these a try. The redness, burning, light sensitivity, and tearing began after day one. I was traveling for my daughter’s wedding and was very concerned that I may have pink eye. I tried the day and night drops one more day, and the pain and symptoms worsened. I used a competitor product so I’d be presentable for the big event to whiten and soothe my eyes! I never used Systane again. Now, after five days, the symptoms are subsiding some, but the redness and burning are still present. I can’t recommend this product."

"Many years ago, I found an eye fluid with Povidone in it for my severe dry eye. They stopped selling it. Over the course of several years, I tried six different drops, none of which had Povidone. My dry eye is only in one eye where I had laser for a torn retina. If I don't use drops during the night, my eye dries out, and I end up with double and blurred vision in the morning, which can last one or two days. Several months ago, my eye doctor suggested FreshKote. When I checked and found it had Povidone in it, I tried it, even though it was $44 a bottle. I have not had a dry eye morning condition since. Even at that price, it is worth it."

"I had some chemical go into my eyes on 18th December. The only symptom was some white discharge. I was put on Moxigram LX and Systane Ultra. Since 6th January, I have been seeing floaters and flashes. I went and got my eye retina checked and got to know that the vitreous fluid is sticking very tightly to the back of the eye, and I may get a retinal tear when it separates. I feel my vitreous fluid has changed its properties due to Systane Ultra, as I have started seeing flashes and floaters only recently (6th Jan). I may be wrong. I can't say. I have stopped Systane Ultra today. Will report back and tell you all if my symptoms stop."

"My wife had extremely severe dry eyes, and the doctor told her to take these plus Xiidra drops. After using for several weeks, she is doing much better. The doctor then diagnosed me with less severe dry eyes and told me to use them too. I have noticed much improvement and no side effects. To use properly, point the top up, flick the vial to put the air at the top, then twist off the top. This prevents leaks and spills. It is expensive, but most good eye drops are. These are preservative-free, so come in small vials for sanitation reasons, so I am fine with it as the cost of keeping germs out of our eyes."

"I'm 79 years old, and my eye doctor told me my eyes are very dry and to use Refresh Liquigel for relief. After using it in each eye about three times, I wake up with swollen eyelids and a rash around the outside of each eye. My skin seems to reject a few drops that tear out of the eye after dropping into the eye. I had to stop using it and wait it out with ice compression and allergy medication. I am very allergic to whatever is in this eye medication. Thank God that my eyesight and eyeball were not affected, only the eyelids and under-eye."

"Started using Systane on the advice of an optometrist. It seemed to make my eyes burn, but I was under the impression that it was fairly benign medication. After a few months of using it periodically, it has become obvious to me that Systane has been the cause of my blurry vision and eye irritation. I woke up with some bad floaters and thought that it was the beginning of a retinal detachment. Kind of scary, and I don't know if it can be attributed to the use of Systane, but I can tell you that I will not use it anymore. You make your own decisions, but I would not advise its use."

"Eyes felt dry in the morning. Used a brand new box/bottle (still well in date). Eyes became painfully red/sore. After two hours, still the same. I have used several brands of eye drops before, but never with this result."
