"I will NEVER EVER take this medicine. I took one pill last night after taking 180 mg of morphine a day. I've never been in so much pain in my life. EXPLOSIVE DIARRHEA AND A LOT OF VOMITING. I literally threw up everything in my body, including my morphine - for 18 hours straight, I was in excruciating pain and withdrawals because every time I took my meds again, I threw them up. I couldn't even keep down Xanax to help with anxiety. Please be aware it will relieve your constipation, but you will be cleaning your bathroom floor, sink, and toilet when you finally feel better. I agree with whoever said I wouldn't give this to my worst enemy."

"**Warning** Especially for Suboxone users. Do NOT swallow a Movantik pill. What you are essentially taking is a withdrawal pill, from which there is no undoing. I drink 60 oz of SmartWater (x2 big bottles) a day and eat a fiber-rich diet, i.e., dates, almonds, oatmeal, smoothies, Fiber One bars, and I'm fine. If you travel like I do, then you will have rough patches if you fall off your routine. And if any doctors are reading this, if you are going to prescribe this horrible med, be very clear with your patient that it's very likely to plunge the user into full-blown withdrawals. If this nightmare pill has any purpose, it's for a 70-year-old war vet with a broken back that's been taking opiates for 35 years and wears an adult diaper. Otherwise, discontinue this horrible medicine."

"Been on methadone for a year now, currently at 30 mg and tapering down. Tried Movantik and had horrible side effects-intense abdominal pain, stomach spasms which caused uncontrollable vomiting, sweating, withdrawal symptoms that put me in bed for the day. Almost went to the ER. THANK YOU to the person who posted on Feb 26th! Magnesium Oxide 500 mg and Docusate Sodium stool softener 100 mg... I never thought I'd go from clumped marbles, hard as rocks to a smooth, non-painful BM, but this has done wonders for me. Took 3-4 of each at night to start and I was blown away. Now taking 1-2 of each and it's still working. I just wish I knew about this months ago. Buy generic, less than $10 at Walmart. Give it a try if Movantik has failed you!"

"This Movantik is so awful I believe it caused me to have my intestines tear, caused me to have emergency surgery and a foot of my intestines removed. I also had to wear a colostomy bag for seven months, thankfully, I was able to have the reversal, but I would never use this again. I use stool softeners and MiraLAX. When I did use this drug, it caused me to have horrible stomach cramps, sweats, nausea, and vomiting. I hope they allow this to be posted."

"The Movantik did help with opioid-induced constipation, however, the withdrawals that it gave me are just horrible. Taking half 3 hours before eating and on a completely empty stomach helped. However, I cannot handle withdrawals. I've been on opioids for 10 years due to hemochromatosis, which was never diagnosed until my sixties. I think I'll try some of the other brands and see if they're any different. But it did produce a complete clean-out within 45 minutes."

"I just got a script from my doctor for Movantik. I have been researching its side effects and have literally sat and read every one of these comments about this drug. Now I am scared to take it. What I have noticed while reading and investigating this drug is that it seems to work fine on people who are on oxycodone, oxycontin, etc. But it seems to give people who are on methadone a horrible experience. It sounds as if when Movantik is used with methadone, it causes reciprocated withdrawals. I have had an experience with reciprocated withdrawals, and it was the most antagonizing experience ever. So I think I'll pass on this. Thank you all for commenting on your experience with this drug. It has definitely helped me in my decision to not even try it."

"I have been dealing with chronic pain for over 5 years, in which I've had to take opioids on and off. After 3 failed surgeries in an attempt to relieve my pain, I decided to see a pain management doctor who has put me on a daily regimen of opiates. I've tried Amitiza, Linzess, and of course fiber, Miralax, laxatives, and enemas. None of these have worked like Movantik. It's been truly a miracle drug. I take it first thing in the morning with my other meds and coffee, but I don't eat until an hour later, as the directions say, and it works every time. I've never had diarrhea, horrible stomach cramps, nausea, etc. It just makes me have a large, normal, and complete BM in the morning, and that's it. It's been a life saver for me."

"I can't believe Movantik has such terrible reviews. It's because of these reviews that I was scared to try it for 2 months after I got it. Then one day, I decided to try it for myself. This medicine is wonderful! I would have given it a 10, but you do get slight cramping and gas. In my opinion, the benefits outweigh the cramps and gas."

"I will never take Movantik again. It's one of the worst medicines I've ever been prescribed, and that's saying something. Movantik sent instantly into opioid withdrawal. Can't overcome it until Movantik is out of your system. Absolutely no warning from the prescribing doctor. She didn't even check with my pain management doctor of 10 years."

"This can be an extremely dangerous drug. My stomach still isn't back to normal 10 days later, and I wasn't terribly constipated. I take magnesium, which can be uncomfortable. This was the worst stomach pain imaginable. I didn't call 911 because I knew that it would work itself out eventually, and what could they do anyway? This was not withdrawal symptoms. I can see someone overdose from pain medication trying to cope with the Movantik-induced pain. I'm sure you can get a perforated stomach lining from the side effects. My stomach feels raw."

"I previously wrote a review of Movantik, and I gave it a good rating because it did give me a bowel movement every day or every other day. It took about two months for it to get me to that point. So stick with it if you can. I had a temporary lapse in instance for two months, and my doctor gave me samples of Relistor because she didn't have Movantik, and she “preferred” Relistor anyway. It did absolutely nothing for me. I ended up constipated again and even worse. My stomach had terrible cramps, and I ended up having blood coming out. My insurance kicked back in, thankfully, and I am back on Movantik. Please give it a chance before giving up on it! It took about two months before it got me moving every day or every other day. My stools are still hard, but I am passing them easily now without pain or struggling!"

"I am never taking Movantik again. I'm sitting here with a heating pad and the air conditioning on, with a huge blanket on me, and let me tell you it gave me the worst excruciating pain in my stomach. I myself have gone to the ER for lesser pain as well. This is out-of-this-world kind of pain, I thought I was going to throw my dose up. I almost puked on the nurse, lol. I held that medicine down, but I seriously wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy."

"Movantik works great for my opiate-induced constipation. I'm so glad I tried it. I take it first thing in the morning, and within an hour, I go. I was worried about opiate withdrawal, but I didn't have issues with that. I wait an hour to take my opiate medication just to be safe, and my pain meds still work well too."

"Not a doctor... long-term opioid use... on Movantik for over 18 months. Very dangerous RX! Start at smallest dose possible - my doctor gave me OK to break in half even though pills are not scored. Recommend Philips Fiber gummies only & beware of stool softeners, if mismanaged they can lead to impaction. So always take pills with plenty of water - plain water! After a year of use, I started to have periods of very high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, abdominal pressure/tightness, stomach muscle spasms so severe I was taken to the ER - where - after staring at me like I was on a bad drug trip - hooked me up to IV which only made things much worse. Later, after some yelling... a bright nurse injected me with Ativan. Not sure why, but within 5 minutes everything subsided. I felt completely normal, maybe a little sleepy. The docs said, well, we got nothing so you might as well go home then see a regular doctor. Turns out Movantik is very dangerous! Use at your own risk."

"After over 15 years of pain meds. Constipation is also a problem. This medication, initially on a 25 mg dose, was too much. It did work, but with issues like others mentioned. After experimenting, I found for me that initially it was too high a dosage. So, what some people might try, as I did, reduce the dosage to about 6mg. I break it into quarters and take small pieces and actually chew small amounts a couple of times a day. If it doesn't work that afternoon, I use small amounts the following day. By the time I use a quarter to half a pill, it works without all the pain, withdrawal, almost no negative effects. The exception being passing very hard stool. I also found a nighttime dose of Miralax every couple of days helps soften passage. I think for many proper smaller doses will work and give relief. Also, try chewing very small doses. It's not bitter tasting. I'm not sure anyone should try 25 mg to start. I talked to my doctor, told him that dose was horrible. I'm glad I didn't give up. Now it helps without side effects."

"My doctor gave me some samples of Movantik, as well as an Rx for it. Took the first pill on an empty stomach one hour before a meal, as directed. Cramps started about an hour after taking it. Cramps increased in intensity over the next few hours until I was experiencing the worst stomach pains of my life. I've actually gone to the ER for stomach pain less severe than this. Initial normal bowel movement quickly turned into total diarrhea (with the most horrible odor imaginable). Additional side effects included intense nausea and just an overall feeling of being very sick. These symptoms continued for an agonizing 8 to 10 hours. I reported the side effects to my doctor, and he advised against taking any more of it. This drug is a nightmare."

"After 5 years of severe constipation, I bought Movantik for $200 (my insurance might pay back and cover future costs if approved), and I took it. The first day I had a small, kind of wet BM. The next day I took it, I had a normal bowel movement, and it does not make me panicky or whatever, except I get some abdominal pain and bloating that is mild and doesn't last long. I would give it 10/10 if it, as I hoped, flushed my colon out, but this is still good. And it doesn't even push me to poop, so if I was in a place with no toilet, I could easily hold it."

"Do NOT USE THIS!! I took the 1st one at 10 a.m. By 11 a.m., I had gone to the bathroom 7x. By 12 p.m., I had such severe cramps and was in full-blown withdrawal. It was worse than any withdrawal I’ve ever experienced. You get no warning about it. The stomach cramps were THE WORST I EVER EXPERIENCED! It was worse than labor! They came every 1-2 minutes, I had to breathe through them, screaming in pain. I wanted to call an ambulance, but I couldn’t move through the pain. I wanted to die. I took an extra dose of my methadone, WHICH I'VE NEVER EVER DONE, and I’m angry that this pill forced me to do it. The withdrawals eased up, but not the cramps. Throwing up. Crying. I’m not a praying person, but I was screaming my prayers to God to stop the pain. After about 6-7 hours, the cramps have subsided. I feel normal now. I immediately just flushed the rest of that medication and will never try anything ever again. I’ll stick with fiber pills and Miralax. DON'T USE!!!!"

"Do not try this medication. I honestly thought I was going to die 2 hours in the toilet, coming out both ends. My toilet looked like something out of a horror film. I literally felt like I was going to die. Being a female, the cramps felt like labor contractions, the worst pain of my life. This medication needs to be turned in to the FDA!!! Humans should not be their science pigs for this drug. Especially being that we are put on this because we are already in pain - this drug is like taking a death pill! Dangerous! Please stick to an over-the-counter medication for constipation, I would rather be constipated any day than go through what happened to me. I gave this medication 2 weeks, and one night woke up with cramps like I was in labor!!"

"Works well if you are meticulous with instructions. My notes: Reliable if taken first thing in the morning with nothing else and a full glass of water. Don't eat or ingest for 1+ hrs. If you take a whole tablet after 3-5 days of no BM, expect 4+ bathroom events with 1 life-altering. Don't wait until 5 days have passed. Take a half pill every 2-3 days. Then two or three fairly normal events. It will not work as well if you take it later in the day, and if you have eaten something that day, expect only a 25% function. If you must take it later in the day, wait for 3 hours after eating and don't eat for several hours. For me, it causes slight physical withdrawal symptoms. Used discount card for $20 copay (online)."

"I took this medicine, and I’m on 95 mg daily of methadone for the past 5 years. Within 20 min, I had to poop, and then I started feeling icky. I went into full-blown withdrawal, and it was terrible. I was shaking, freezing, and sweating, nausea was intense, yawning, runny nose, back pain, and every 10 min, I had more cramping and pooping until my bowel was completely empty. Finally, I tried taking more methadone, but it was being blocked out and wasn’t helping. I then took some Tylenol and a few mg of Xanax, and it knocked me out and I fell asleep finally. Luckily, when I woke up, the withdrawal had passed, but I was in withdrawal for around 3-6 hours. It’s midnight now, and I’m extremely sore from back spasms, and my stomach feels awful. Please don’t take this garbage. Pooping is not that important. Use a stool softener daily. This was the worst day of my life in 5 years."

"On May 21, 2017, I shared a review and want to add something that happened to me recently. I always take my Movantik 25 mg in the morning with my coffee. Within a half an hour, I have a bowel movement invariably. The only side effect is flatulence (gas). The other morning, I ate first, then took my Movantik 25 mg around an hour and a half later. I NEVER had a bowel movement that day, and my stomach was really bothering me badly. The next day, I took it as I normally do, and once again had a bowel movement without any issues, except for flatulence (gas). Hope this helps!"

"Was given a sample of 25 mg from my doc, the pharmacy said not covered on my plan. Got a note months later from my provider that an appeal on my behalf has been ruled favorable on my side. Although still a $100 co-pay, I thought I'd try it, and if it works, it'll be well worth the cost. I took a tablet from my sample. Within 20 mins, cramps started (no sweat, that's expected), another 10 mins and strange sounds started rumbling deep in my gut, and the surprisingly tranquil farting started. Another 15 mins and I was having a bowel movement and was overjoyed. After a few of these, I got a sharp pain in my lower back, I started yawning, cold sweats, and proceeded to have explosive diarrhea for the next 6 hours straight. I also had a severe migraine and thoughts of impending doom. It took 11 hours before my bowels calmed down. I actually slept in my recliner lined with plastic trash bags in case I blew containment. Now, nearly 24 hours later, my gut is finally somewhat back to normal. $2.49 enema."

"Frankly, I’m surprised by the bad reviews. My constipation is severe. It, at one point, sent me to the emergency room. Reason? A stimulant laxative. Never again. I have never been a “1/2 pill is too much” girl. Movantik doesn’t overwhelm my body. My husband lost his mother to a burst bowel, so he is especially concerned. Never was a “poop a day” girl either. Having found Movantik is why I’m breathing a sigh of relief. If I can ever get off the opioids, it will be a happy day. But until then, I thank the Movantik developers. True, I, on occasion, will take a nausea pill, but I did that before Movantik. Now you can’t pry it from my cold dead hands!!! It helps me and our peace of mind to have Movantik assist me."

"I started Movantik right after it came on the market. It worked well for about two years. I took it on an empty stomach, and one half hour later, there were results. But, within the last 6 months, results are unpredictable. I wonder if you can develop a tolerance to this med. Anyone have a similar experience? Now, I'm using either prune juice or biscadrol suppositories to ensure success. Thanks for any input."
