For GERD "I might as well be taking a placebo, as this medicine does absolutely nothing for me. I still have heartburn and burny esophagus. Sodium bicarb in a little water does way more to help relieve these symptoms. Much cheaper and healthier (no harmful drugs and chemicals, and no side effects either)."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I was prescribed a long-term use of Prevacid following a diagnosis for H. pylori. It was originally used in a 3-treatment regimen, which contained 2 antibiotics for H. pylori when I was a teenager. H. pylori was eliminated enough to prevent ulcers, but acid reflux did continue. This continuation led to a prescribed long-term use of Prevacid. Given the risks of long-term use of any PPI, over the course of several decades, I personally reduced my dosage to as needed. I have success with a week-long dosage as found on the OTC bottle more so with Prevacid than other PPIs available. OTC gives the same results for me as the original prescription."

For Erosive Esophagitis "I’ve been on Pepcid for like 20 years. It has always worked perfectly for my severe acid reflux disease. However, recently the previous black/pink capsules have been changed to white/blue ones. Could care less about the color, but these do not work for me. A few times a week, I have to take over-the-counter acid reducers or take another lansoprazole."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "I’ve had gastritis before after an emotional and tragic event in my life. I was put on omeprazole, that did help, but this time after yet another event, gastritis has returned. I’ve been taking ranitidine 150 mg, but although it’s helped, my doctor has advised me to take lansoprazole 30 mg. I'm yet to get. I do have an endoscopy soon, last time they found grade 2 erosion."

For Barrett's Esophagus "It stopped my feeling of acid reflux by the 3rd day. I have now been taking it for 1 month. It has changed my life, truly an amazing drug. I have another month's supply to take. I just hope I will be able to get another prescription to continue."

For GERD "I started on 30 mg of lansoprazole for 4 weeks; it worked very well, no more acid reflux and I could eat everything. Two days after coming off these pills, my condition became 10 times worse. I started choking at night because my throat was producing foam to protect itself from acid. I could not eat anything without getting severe burning at the center of my chest. I lost 2 stones in weight. I was put on 60 mg of it and ranitidine before bed and amitriptyline. It took 7 months to gradually reduce to 30 mg a day. However, I started getting foaming problems again. I have had to go back to 60 mg daily. The foaming has not gone away after 6 weeks. I just cannot see an end to this cycle. I would suggest if you ever go on these drugs, you take your time coming off them. Taking 15 mg less every month."

For Erosive Esophagitis "It's kind of alright. It was more effective when I first started taking it. It still works alright for me throughout the day. I take it for acid reflux. Acid reflux goes away quicker if I lay down on my left side. It's not a huge problem. Just that it could affect me in public if it starts not working properly. I think I might need to start taking two, though, as it isn't as effective on me as it used to be. Just glad I can still live my life without it affecting me."

For GERD "In 2020, I was prescribed Prevacid Fastab 30 mg after experiencing appetite loss and mild epigastric burning. These symptoms occurred daily, usually around 2-3 hours after eating, along with daily burping episodes since 2013. I just tolerated the burping as it didn't greatly affect my life, and it varied in frequency. Antacids (Tums) helped to relieve it. I had a gastroscopy and colonoscopy, with the gastroscopy showing no issues. I was diagnosed with diverticulosis and a stricture in the bowel. I was advised to increase my fiber intake, which I did. I was prescribed Prevacid Fastab 30 mg for 8 weeks, which cured everything. I returned to normal within 36 hours. I was then told to stop taking it regularly and only use it as needed. If I have a rough spell of heartburn (without regurgitation) and burping, I still take Prevacid, although I do have some concern that it may not always work as effectively as it used to. Most days, I rely on Tums. Additionally, I raised my mattress 6 inches, which has been helpful."

For Hiatal Hernia "Have been using lansoprazole 30 mg for between 2 to 3 years. 1 each morning. If skipped, acid reflux would start towards evening. No side effects. 100% satisfied. Something to do with stock unavailable, so I have now been prescribed pantoprazole 20 mg. Hope that works as well as lansoprazole."

Lansoprazole for GERD "This medication worked great for me for a very long time, with the only downside being that the dose had to be increased every few years. I’ll preface this by saying I am a survivor of childhood cancer, and I was first put on Prevacid during chemotherapy at age 8. I took the FasTabs because I can’t swallow pills, and I will say, by a landslide, it’s the best-tasting medication I’ve ever been prescribed. Incredibly easy to use. Zero side effects for me. Only downside was insurance wouldn’t cover the FasTab, and capsules didn’t work for me. Truly a great medicine that I was on up until three weeks ago. I took the highest dose (30 mg twice a day) for I want to say the last 5-ish years, but after I experienced a severe allergic reaction to another medication, the Prevacid suddenly stopped working. I’m currently in the process of trying to find another medication or a permanent fix for my reflux, and I miss Prevacid."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "I have chronic non-erosive gastritis with a lot of symptoms like painful active burping, cramps, and so on. I was prescribed 30 mg of Lansoprazole. I have relief overall from my painful belching, but side effects of cramps, muscle vibrations, tiredness, headaches, and joint pain."

For Barrett's Esophagus "I've used omeprazole 80 mg daily, which then stopped working. Famotidine made my skin burn up after several weeks. Pantoprazole caused a bad skin reaction within the first hour. Then esomeprazole 40 mg gave me a bad dry mouth and messed around with my head. Taking 60 mg of lansoprazole works the best for me out of all of them. Least amount of side effects and works the best. Been on it for almost 2 years now! Medicine is starting to work less nowadays, just need an operation on my stomach. There is only so much this medicine can help you with. I do exercise with this medicine, and my acid reflux is bad. I stop doing exercise, and on this medicine, I get better. So people need to understand this medicine can only help you so much with GERD, etc. This medicine is keeping me alive at the moment. Sad but true."

For GERD "Well, there are pros and cons. The good: 1. Very effective for stopping the reflux 2. Fine for short-term use 3. No problem with the evening dose 4. Short-term use, few side effects 5. I'm less allergic to it than omeprazole Cons (for me, your mileage may vary): 1. Stomach pain kicked in late and doesn't go away 2. Extreme sudden fatigue with mild exertion 3. Morning nausea, worse if I stop the tablets, though 4. Sweating 5. Awful dry mouth, can't drive any distance without stopping to drink. We all have different experiences with these sorts of drugs. While there are very unpleasant side effects, there are great benefits. Acid reflux is worse than taking the tablets, there is no doubt about that for me. Some of us just don't react well to PPIs, I'm at peace with it. It's not the tablet's fault."

For NSAID-Induced Gastric Ulcer "Absolutely shocking drug. Been on it for 3 years due to long-term use of ibuprofen for back spasms. Kept having bouts of diarrhea, then bad constipation, felt nauseous all the time, fatigued like I could just drop to sleep on the spot. Over the last few months, it has been building up in my system to severe constipation where I was so bloated I couldn't even let gas out, that nauseous and vomiting that I lost weight and that fatigued it was becoming difficult to remember who I was. 5 visits to A&E with a fully dilated pupil that would not shrink and no Dr. there told me it could be a side effect of lanzop. My Mum and I have ended up working out this tablet has caused everything and was probably causing the same thing to my late Grandad as he was put on this cheaper version from one that was working for him. Diabolical. I am now alert, eyes wide open, feeling like I want to eat, eating full plates of food, and bowels are back to how they used to be! Avoid this drug at all costs!"

For GERD "I was feeling sick randomly, it would come on and then go again, no real reason, patterns, or dietary issues that I could find. I lived with it for about 2 months, then it started affecting my ability to actually enjoy myself for fear of constantly feeling sick. It got worse as I started with heavy, mucus-like throat, it was strange how the symptoms changed overnight, but they did seem to. My GP got me onto these tablets, and within 6 hours, I felt absolutely incredible, all of the ill feelings I'd had just vanished away. Don't get me wrong, they return occasionally - but this drug really puts them at bay. The only complaint I have is they cause really powerful headaches for me, paracetamol doesn't seem to touch the pain either. It's a trade-off I can live with, though, to be honest."

Lansoprazole for GERD "Not only is it a wonderful pill that takes away all symptoms within 24 hours, it's also just ONE pill a day. Those that suffer from severe heartburn would understand what it's like to take just one pill over 20 chewables or so daily. Though my heartburn subsided post-pregnancy and I no longer have a daily problem, I will definitely keep this in mind for next time around."

For GERD "My daughter suffers from severe GERD and is 4 years old. Recently, our insurance has her 15 mg solutabs (2x a day) running us $680/month. A specialist told us to try the OTC Prevacid. After 2 weeks, my daughter suffered shortness of breath, bellyache, and chronic hiccups. Put her back on solutabs, symptoms gone. Tried this OTC approach twice, and sure enough, it is not effective for our daughter's GERD compared to Prevacid solutabs that cost $680. My son is now on them as well, so total we spend $1020 a month on Prevacid solutabs."

Lansoprazole for GERD "I have to give this some credit because it did wonders for preventing my reflux. But the third night I was on it, I experienced some of the worst insomnia I've ever had - and I have chronic insomnia anyway - as well as cramping in my legs and an inability to keep still. The doc recommended I discontinue use, so I did. These are supposedly rare side effects, but apparently I'm that rare case. Oh well."

For GERD "I had severe reflux. Put on this 15 years ago. I hate it. It works, but I have headaches, dizziness, gas, sometimes lightheaded. Now almost 74, I do not see me ever getting off, though I have tried repeatedly and suffered greatly each time. I wish I had never started this or at least worked early on to substitute, if possible. My late husband was on omeprazole, which I tried, but it didn't work for me."

For Barrett's Esophagus "I’ve been living with Barrett’s for 20 years. Lansoprazole has kept me living normally for the most part. I don’t think medicine alone can be 100% of the answer, you have to make lifestyle changes to complement what the medication helps control. I’ve recently had to increase from 30 mg to 60 mg per day out of precaution, but it’s still keeping my symptoms very manageable. It should be a crime for insurance companies not to cover this drug!"

For GERD "After 30 days, developed diarrhea after every meal. Took 6 weeks before my doc took me off. Blood tests, stool tests. Too bad because it worked better than any other medication I ever took for this issue. But so relieved after realizing I could not tolerate. Awful diarrhea."

For Hiatal Hernia "I've been taking one 15 mg tablet every day for approximately 4 years now. I take my tablet in the afternoon. It has worked well, and I only get joint pain on some days. No side effects. Reflux has gone, and I have no problems with swallowing. The only problems I do get are tightening of the chest every now and then."

For GERD "I took it for a suspected stomach ulcer and for GERD. Apparently, after six months of taking it, it could have gotten rid of my ulcer anyway, so after the endoscopy, I had nothing found. So either it helped allow it to heal or was not there in the first place. For GERD, it worked very well and almost immediately. I do not remember the dosage because it has been many years since I took it, but it stopped all the terrible pain in the top of my stomach. The pain was very localized and flared up after eating peanuts and anything spicy. Since then, I have altered my diet to prevent the return of symptoms, but if I get it again, I know it will work. It should be taken with caution for the long term, apparently, as it can affect the absorption of calcium, but I am sure that supplementation would help. I was not taking it for long enough for it to be a concern for me."
