For Hiatal Hernia "I have been taking Lansoprazole 15 mg for more than a year now because I was getting a lot of acid reflux, which was causing awful stomach pains and vomiting, which would go on all through the night and made me lose a lot of weight too. I went to the emergency room and had loads of different tests to see why this was happening, and they said I had a case of hiatal hernia. Well, since I have been taking it, it has gotten better, but I have been getting a lot of flare-ups, stomach pains/vomiting on odd days again!! So feeling fed up with it all, to be honest, and it's wearing me down... wondering if anybody else has been like me, is 15 mg enough? Do you think I should have a higher dosage? I'm too frightened to eat anything, and if I do eat, I am always thinking, will I be poorly in a few hours!!"

For GERD "Was prescribed this for GERD. Within 3 days of taking, I developed a purply rash on my lower legs and ankles. My doctor changed it to Omeprazole, which caused me to have stomach pains and wind. Was then changed to Ranitidine, which I have been taking for just over a week, but this hasn't sorted out the aches in my side and chest or the acid traveling into my throat. At a loss as to what I can take next."

For GERD "My father had acid reflux problems, and at least one of my brothers. I've been on Prevacid/lansoprazole for many years. Over a decade. If I quit, it comes back as upper GI pain, as always. I just NOW learned that you should reduce the dose before you quit. I have had no help from any doctor concerning how long I should be on this. Or anything further. It works, and I can swallow, something I had serious problems with and was worried about damage. But I still worry about having been on it so long. And I still worry about continuing."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Initially prescribed Lansoprazole 30 mg due to acid reflux. I took it for 3 days with side effects (diarrhea, dry mouth, and stomach pain), so I called my doctor and found out I had H. Pylori. I had to continue taking Lanso with Clarithromycin and amoxicillin for 7 days (known as triple therapy). Honestly, after taking the triple therapy, I began to have withdrawal symptoms. For some strange reason, I used to be really hungry when being on the medication. Not anymore. Dr. recommends I continue taking Lanso 30 mg once a day after the triple therapy until I 'feel better really.' I've been on Lans for 4 days now after the therapy, and I'm still experiencing a sour, foul taste in the mouth, gassy bubbling in my digestive tract... no hunger."

For GERD "Well, there are pros and cons. The good: 1. Very effective for stopping the reflux 2. Fine for short-term use 3. No problem with the evening dose 4. Short-term use, few side effects 5. I'm less allergic to it than omeprazole Cons (for me, your mileage may vary): 1. Stomach pain kicked in late and doesn't go away 2. Extreme sudden fatigue with mild exertion 3. Morning nausea, worse if I stop the tablets, though 4. Sweating 5. Awful dry mouth, can't drive any distance without stopping to drink. We all have different experiences with these sorts of drugs. While there are very unpleasant side effects, there are great benefits. Acid reflux is worse than taking the tablets, there is no doubt about that for me. Some of us just don't react well to PPIs, I'm at peace with it. It's not the tablet's fault."

Lansoprazole for GERD "I have tried almost every acid reducer made in the last 20 years, and nothing worked until I took Prevacid 30 mg 2x a day. I had severe stomach pain, cramps, and pain under my right shoulder. Thought I was having a heart attack. One 30 mg pill didn't do it, I still needed antacids. Another doctor suggested 2x a day. It worked. It took about 4 weeks for my symptoms to go away. I could eat anything. Periodically, I've tried to reduce the amount by slowly reducing the mg, but symptoms always came back. I've tried the generic version because my insurance company would cover it at this high dose, but symptoms came back after a few months. Generic versions are just not the same."
