Lansoprazole for GERD "I've been taking Prevacid for over 10 years, 1 in the morning, that's it. I've had acid reflux since I was 13 years old, used to keep bottles of Tums in my car, my nightstand, my pocket. I suffered for years. Not anymore. I'm 53, I eat, drink whatever I want, hardly ever get indigestion anymore. Sure works for me."

Lansoprazole for GERD "Do not start on Prevacid or any PPI. They work fine, but if you develop serious side effects as I have, you are stuck taking them because they are almost impossible to get off of. The rebound pain and heartburn are even worse than the serious side effects. You then suffer from both problems at the same time. These pills suck the very life out of you. Use Pepcid or Tagamet. Stay away from these."

For Hiatal Hernia "I have been taking Lansoprazole 15 mg for more than a year now because I was getting a lot of acid reflux, which was causing awful stomach pains and vomiting, which would go on all through the night and made me lose a lot of weight too. I went to the emergency room and had loads of different tests to see why this was happening, and they said I had a case of hiatal hernia. Well, since I have been taking it, it has gotten better, but I have been getting a lot of flare-ups, stomach pains/vomiting on odd days again!! So feeling fed up with it all, to be honest, and it's wearing me down... wondering if anybody else has been like me, is 15 mg enough? Do you think I should have a higher dosage? I'm too frightened to eat anything, and if I do eat, I am always thinking, will I be poorly in a few hours!!"

Lansoprazole for GERD "I have been using this medication for about 15 years at 60 mg a day to treat severe GERD. Doctors, in general, are reluctant to prescribe this dosage, but in my case, it was necessary. I had been using Zantac and Prilosec prior to that and graduated onto this as a last resort. It has cleared up most of the esophagus erosion. There seems to be no side effects that I am aware of, but would be interested if anyone has noticed an uptick in kidney infections."

For GERD "Wish the doctors would listen, this is not working after so long. Also, it causes bad anxiety, so you end up on antidepressants and the bisoprolol for your heart palpitations due to anxiety. It's like a bad nightmare, and you try to act like you're okay, but you're not."

Lansoprazole for GERD "I have been taking Prevacid for 28 years. I’ve tried to stop taking this medication so many times, and the heartburn/reflux comes back with a vengeance. I went to a top-notch gastroenterologist, and he said he needed to test the pH of my esophagus/stomach. I had to stop taking Prevacid seven days before the procedure. Without it, I felt like I was having a heart attack. I have broken both my ankles and shoulder, and I wasn’t really doing anything! I have numerous health problems that I believe stemmed from this drug that was prescribed when I was in the hospital from a major asthma attack. It kept the heartburn/reflux at bay and didn’t exacerbate the asthma (wheezing and coughing). I never had a gastroenterologist care or seem concerned every time I said I need to get off of this medication until the one I’m seeing!"

For GERD "I've used lansoprazole for 9 weeks. It worked fantastically, but now I think it's lowered stomach acid too much. I have told my doctor I will stop taking it as of tomorrow, as I took one today and will only take it if/when symptoms recur. It has given me a stomach ache and loose morning movements, plus I've lost a bit of weight that I can't afford to."

For GERD "I started taking lansoprazole for GERD, and at first, it worked a treat, relieving the reflux symptoms massively. After around three weeks of taking it daily, I started to experience terrible heart palpitations, insomnia, anxiety, and achy bones. I took myself to the hospital with the palpitations and felt like I was going crazy, my ECG and blood tests were all normal, and I’m otherwise pretty healthy. I have stopped taking them now, around five days ago. I’m still experiencing the palpitations. Has anyone experienced anything similar?"

For GERD "Terrible experience with these. I had overwhelming anxiety with irritability, just couldn't relax, crawling itchy skin, tension headaches, and really painful restless legs. I also had parosmia (weird, unpleasant smells). Was taking for two weeks, and in that time, I got worse and worse. Like everyone, I had zero idea that these would be the culprit of my symptoms. I basically saw it as a common antacid, how could it be these? But it was. Doctors really should be more aware and be up to date on medications they prescribe. Thank God the internet has real information from other users, as I would've just carried on taking them. If your symptoms are what I've mentioned, then stop, you're basically having a reaction on top of the other symptoms. I didn't seek guidance from a doctor as I wasn't up to talking and didn't want the stress of going through the whole appointment and waiting, as post-COVID it's pretty impossible to get an appointment."

Lansoprazole for GERD "After several months of taking Prevacid, if I don't take it for a day, my symptoms now are 10 times worse than they used to be before I started taking it. Not only that, but the doctor has told me that if I continue to take Prevacid, I will most likely develop osteoporosis (I am only 18 years old). Overall, after taking this medicine for about half a year, my only choice is to continue taking it, but risk being deficient in some essential nutrients and develop osteoporosis, or stop taking it and experience burning pain and reflux every day, and continue to damage my esophagus."

Lansoprazole for Duodenal Ulcer "Started taking Prevacid about a month ago. Started off okay, working well enough, but at night it seemed to not be strong enough to last the 24 hours. I was initially on 30 mg, and I would take that just in the morning and night, now I'm taking it in the morning. Now I've been getting severe stomach aches, headaches, and nausea. Felt extremely weak, and the anxiety-induced body pain feels like I've had pots of coffee, with irritation so severe, I just can't take it anymore."

Lansoprazole for GERD "I was told by my MD that I probably have a hiatal hernia that is causing G.E.R.D. He prescribed an RX. When I went to the pharmacy and it was too expensive, the pharmacist suggested I try an over-the-counter one. I read all the labels of ingredients on Prevacid, Prilosec, etc. I chose Prevacid because of its ingredients. I have been VERY happy with it! It works well!"

For GERD "I suffered from extreme bloating and gas starting Thanksgiving 2016 and still am dealing with my GERD condition to this day, 10 January 2017. My gastro doctor recommended Prilosec one time a day, but it was too strong and made me have an uneasy feeling in my stomach, so he switched me to Prevacid, and it was great for the first week and a half, but then it started causing me to burp excessively after that, and I had a hard time digesting my food. I think it eliminated too much of my stomach acid, hence, I had a hard time breaking down food. And I stopped taking Prevacid because it harmed me more than helped me in the end. Is there anything that will help me? It seems like antacids work against me. I don't know what to do because now I'm so sensitive to eating food."

For Hiatal Hernia "Been on Lansoprazole for three years, stopped the acid reflux but gives me major joint pain, dry eyes at night, and bloating. GP not interested as he just wants to up medication. My other worry is the calcium deficiency it apparently causes, which I can't get them to answer. Why not surgery? Because it costs money, I assume it's cheaper to throw tablets across a table."

Lansoprazole for GERD "I have used Prevacid before, and it does work well. Years ago, a doctor told me that they wanted to put a scope down my throat. I am not really into that idea, so it has not been done. I do not use this often due to the price increase, but I would recommend it."

For GERD "Was switched to Lansoprazole from Pantoprazole (10+ yrs) near 2 weeks ago due to the fact that Pantoprazole wasn't helping, and I was taking up to 155 mg per day. Since beginning the Lansoprazole, though, I'm not noticing any improvement whatsoever. I am finding, though, I'm feeling ill and back and forth to the washroom. Hasn't helped with the fact that I have difficulty swallowing and constantly feel like something is stuck in my throat. Just learned that 2 of my medications (this and another) have a major interaction with each other. Want to stop taking this."

Lansoprazole for NSAID-Induced Gastric Ulcer "I started Prevacid because I needed something to coat my stomach while I took NSAIDs for back pain, costochondritis, and a slipped rib after I had my daughter (I’m small, and she was born big and took a toll on my body - had her when I was 40). It worked for taming the heartburn and indigestion but caused HORRIBLE constipation. I weaned off it, and constipation disappeared, and I had normal bowel movements almost immediately. But the acid rebound was AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL. I have been taking Pepcid and Tums as needed, but they are very short-term solutions. I also have had some weird brain fog/lightheadedness, nausea, headaches, fatigue. I wouldn’t recommend this. It wasn’t worth it in my opinion."

For GERD "It works wonders for the heartburn, but I can't handle the side effects. I have awful diarrhea, vomiting, weight gain, headaches, nausea, and stomach aches. It's not the normal side effects, but I haven't had any heartburn. I'm probably in that >1% that has bad side effects."

Lansoprazole for GERD "I have used Prevacid 30 mg (lansoprazole) for almost a year now. It works wonders for my acid reflux, except when I'm bad and eat something to trigger it! I have found it works better when not used daily. My doctor said do not take it every day as the effects will wear off sooner, take it when you need it or on a day you know you will be eating something to trigger your acid reflux. As with any other medication, the effects of relief will wear off, but when you stagger, you take it. It works all the time."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "I am currently taking lansoprazole to treat gastritis for a second time. The first time, I took the medication for a month, which seemed to clear my symptoms. After another flare-up, I am back on lansoprazole. So far, so good - the medication has been very effective. I have been suffering from constant bloating and stomach discomfort, and lansoprazole has massively reduced both."

Lansoprazole for GERD "I have used all of them off and on for 20 years. They all work (PPIs), so experiment and see what you like. I like Prevacid and Nex. The best way to get rid of your GERD is to modify your eating habits. Really. Lose some weight, eat a vegetable or some fruit now and then. Changing food habits will do more than all the drugs. I cut back on coffee, liquor, and wine. I am thrilled when I can get down one PPI every 3 days or so. That can happen for you. If we could all sleep standing up, we would never have problems. Side effects they don't mention: Anxiety, chest pains. And the purple will give you looser stools after a while."

For GERD "Was prescribed this for GERD. Within 3 days of taking, I developed a purply rash on my lower legs and ankles. My doctor changed it to Omeprazole, which caused me to have stomach pains and wind. Was then changed to Ranitidine, which I have been taking for just over a week, but this hasn't sorted out the aches in my side and chest or the acid traveling into my throat. At a loss as to what I can take next."

For GERD "My father had acid reflux problems, and at least one of my brothers. I've been on Prevacid/lansoprazole for many years. Over a decade. If I quit, it comes back as upper GI pain, as always. I just NOW learned that you should reduce the dose before you quit. I have had no help from any doctor concerning how long I should be on this. Or anything further. It works, and I can swallow, something I had serious problems with and was worried about damage. But I still worry about having been on it so long. And I still worry about continuing."
