Ciprofloxacin "I've taken Cipro before for urinary tract infections, but my body reacted badly this time. I had nausea, upset stomach, headaches, and caused vomiting. It did help with relieving urinary tract infection symptoms after 2 days. I finished my entire prescription, and I still have some side effects."

"Began getting UTIs after menopause a number of years ago. Have been given various antibiotics and experienced a sensitivity to some and ineffectiveness with others. Was prescribed Cipro hoping it would do the trick. It did, and I have taken it for about 10 years for UTIs, which I get about 2-3 times a year. As far as side effects go, I have a little stomach upset and feel kind of wiped out, but those are a small price to pay! I recommend it!"

"I was terrified to take Cipro (ciprofloxacin) because of the reviews. I was prescribed Cipro for a bad UTI that relapsed after amoxicillin didn't clear it up. Within 1 day, there was no more blood in my urine. Within 3 days, all burning stopped and my urine wasn't cloudy anymore. I was on Cipro for a full week. I did have some side effects, but nothing debilitating. I had some nausea, heartburn, fatigue, mild abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea. I'm thankful for this antibiotic! A urine test verified that it completely cleared my UTI. Don't be afraid to take Cipro. If you experience bad side effects, just tell your doctor and take it from there. But from what I've been told by a couple of pharmacists, really bad side effects from Cipro are rare. I've been on amoxicillin, clindamycin, and Cipro, and they have all had the same side effects for me. And those side effects were manageable."

Ciprofloxacin "Was given a 3-day treatment for a UTI, 250 mg every 12 hours. I had let the UTI get really bad before treatment, so my experience may not be representative of someone who catches it early. The horrendous symptoms were gone within a day, but I've just taken my last one and still feel irregular urgency and burning upon urination. Going back to the dr today."

"Cipro is the only thing that works for me. I suffer from chronic urinary tract infections, despite my efforts of consistent 100% cranberry juice intake and using the bathroom after sex, I normally have 2-3 per year. Cipro usually kicks the awful urinary tract infection symptoms within a couple of hours of my first dose, and I have complete relief within the first day. I'm lucky enough to have the meds on hand due to the recurrent infections - typically only take for 3 days unless I'm seeing blood in my urine, then I take it for 5. Dose 500mg twice in the first day to kick the infection, and then I follow up with 500mg once per day through my 3 or 5 days. I don't usually have many side effects from the Cipro, maybe some fatigue and mild headache for a day, but that's all."

Ciprofloxacin "Took just one tablet, I was rushed to the hospital. I could not even pick my hand up. Sadly, someone gave me a second dose in the hospital the next day. Twenty minutes later, I went into... ANAPHYLAXIS SHOCK. I had eight doctors around my bed doing so many things. Thank God for those eight doctors acting so fast. Had I not been in the hospital that day, I would not be here now to tell my story. I was told it was a very close call even though I was in the hospital. This was a truly terrifying thing to happen. I am now so scared to take any antibiotic."

"Honestly, this antibiotic isn't bad at all. I understand that some people react to drugs differently, but if you ignored your symptoms long enough for your tendons to randomly tear, you're just dumb. Talk to your doctor if things don't feel right. I came on here when I was prescribed Cipro and was TERRIFIED of the reviews. I have had no symptoms taking this for a week, and I took it with lots of food and water and stayed hydrated. This antibiotic got rid of my UTI and sinus infection in a day. If you aren't healthy, are taking other medications, smoke, have preexisting conditions, or can't handle feeling slightly nauseous from medicine, then yeah, don't take it. Otherwise, it did wonders for me."

Ciprofloxacin "Cipro caused me to have horrible panic attacks. I have been dealing with anxiety for the last 1.5 years, but had been doing so much better the last 5 months or so. I was prescribed it for a UTI, after my original antibiotic wouldn't be covered by insurance and I couldn't afford it. I will never take it again if I can help it at all. It has set me back so much, and even though I've finished it up over a week ago, I am dealing with worsened anxiety still. I know it was the medication. I haven't been that bad since I started having trouble to begin with. It was awful. I've also had a lot of stomach issues since and can't help but wonder if it was the medication. I think the stuff is like poison for some people!!"

Ciprofloxacin "While Cipro may clear up my UTI, it triggered my seizure potential and lowered my seizure threshold. It also can interfere with seizure meds, which isn't cool for me, as it can cause seizures in people with previous head trauma too. Lastly, if also taken with NSAIDs like ibuprofen or aspirin, it can raise risk. Use extreme caution if I have a history of seizures!!!!"

Ciprofloxacin "Dr. prescribed 500 mg twice a day for 5 days. The UTI was horrible, but I’ve never experienced such horrible side effects from an antibiotic. Nausea was debilitating, I was fighting to keep from vomiting. Couldn’t drive because it had my head swirling. Headaches too! I stuck with it because the UTI scared me, but after just taking the last dose, I’m still certain my UTI is lingering. Maybe I’m imagining this, but my thinking and moods seem to have been dark. I regret taking this drug."

"I took ciprofloxacin 500 milligrams 2 times a day, and after 24 hours from starting this, I started feeling sick again and worse now after 3 days with aching muscles, dizziness, pain in urination, fever, nausea, and headache. But the doctor won't prescribe anything else for me until it is finished after 5 days, so I'm going to go into the emergency or medical center."

Ciprofloxacin "I took this 2 times for the same UTI. Although it helped minimize some of the symptoms, it did not cure my UTI. I have taken 6 rounds of antibiotics (2x Cipro) and have finally been prescribed Augmentin. Hopefully, it will work!"

Ciprofloxacin "Prescribed 500 mg twice a day for UTI. By night four, had the most amazing aches in my left leg from hip through knee particularly. Halfway through the (sleepless, since it interacts with my usual sleep remedy) night, it switched legs. A relief in that I didn't have to worry that I was suddenly developing an orthopedic condition. Day and night five just as bad. Being careful with exercise so as not to harm a tendon. Something is going on. It's cured the UTI, so I will stick it out for the five days. Hope these aches go away after. Taking Neurontin and a bedtime hydrocodone helps, but that makes me useless! However, a urine culture said my infection was ONLY sensitive to Cipro, so ..."

Ciprofloxacin "Have taken Cipro before for a UTI with no problems; and immediate relief. This time after 2 days of 500 mg twice a day, right calf muscle cramping horribly along with tingling and numbness on the bottom of both feet. Very lethargic, but UTI is better. Will cut in half and try 250 mg three times a day."

Ciprofloxacin "Search up Quinolone Toxicity on the internet before taking this potent drug. I had repeated courses for UTI/Kidney infections from 1993 to 2008. I believe this drug has ruined my life. I have ME/CFS, anxiety/depression, Achilles tendinitis of both heels, persistent severe dermatitis, to name just a few. If I had been made aware of the possibility of serious and lifelong side effects, I would never have agreed to take this poison. I went from being an energetic sporty person who worked 2 jobs simultaneously because I liked being busy and social, and now to someone who hasn't been able to work since 2002. Don't take ANY of the Quinolone Antibiotics unless it's literally a matter of life or death and you have no other options."

Ciprofloxacin "I'll give it a few stars because it made my UTI symptoms better. However, it did not clear up the infection! I just finished up the bottle after taking it twice a day for ten days. Yet, two days later, I am feeling the terrible symptoms all over again, like nothing has changed. I will be going back to the doctor tomorrow for a stronger medication."

Ciprofloxacin "I went to the ER last night because of a pulled back muscle that occurred 2 weeks ago. The pain (lower back) was just unbearable! And when the pain also moved up to my kidney, I thought, 'Okay, something is seriously wrong here.' Turns out I had a pretty bad UTI that I didn't know about (NONE of the usual symptoms, pee flow regular, no spotting, etc.). 1st time ever being prescribed Cipro, 500 mg 2x a day. Took 1st dose immediately after filling my script (10 pm), second one 12 hrs later (10 am). By morning, I had severe dry mouth after taking the 2nd dose, so I started drinking a Gatorade and immediately started vomiting. My kidney hurts more than it did before going to the ER, headache since last night, and I'm only on day 1 :("

"Never have I had such a bad reaction to an antibiotic. Blisters on my feet, toes, both top and bottom, making it impossible to wear shoes, hard to walk, and a few in other places. Burning, sharp pains in the abdomen region. Problems with all my tendons in my feet, knees, shoulders, making it impossible to walk. Took over a month to be almost over this. I am still feeling effects from it. And please read on this med. It says that you can use it from one manufacturer, nothing happens, but each is different. One manufacturer can hurt you while others do not. BEWARE!!"

"The medication works well for clearing up a UTI. However, it makes me very, very nauseous. I have certain bouts during the day that I feel like I'm going to vomit. Drinking lots of fluids helps with the nausea, but it's pretty miserable. I would prefer the nausea over a UTI, though."

Ciprofloxacin "Horrible pain and nerve damage in my feet after one pill. Couldn't walk normally for over a month and had to roll around in a chair. Turns out I didn't even have the UTI they prescribed it for, but the nerves will still get painful and make walking hard today, which is 6 years later. I wouldn't recommend taking this unless your infection is life-threatening!"

"28, male: was given doxycycline first, couldn't use it longer than 3 days, extreme nausea, dry vomiting, heart palpitations, random trouble breathing. Infection came back, was given cipro, easy drug to take, but on and off was having burning pain in my ankles. This drug eats the cartilage around the Achilles tendon. Day 5, had to go to ER, can't walk anymore, intense burning in my ankles and complete weakness. I'm praying to God I'll recover. I don't even know if my infection will be gone after 5 days of use. Pray for me, I might have to file for disability."

"Well, I was stupid enough to give cipro a chance to get into my system. 5-10 minutes after taking a 500 mg tablet of cipro, I started running to the bathroom because my eyes were so watery, till they went red, and then became swollen. A few moments later, I started sneezing non-stop! And then my nose got clogged. I was able to find rashes on my skin, and most importantly, it was very difficult to breathe! Had my boyfriend take me to the hospital. My advice would be a big no-no. Don't take cipro."

Ciprofloxacin "This is my 10th day taking 500 mg Cipro every day for a UTI. I'm laying in bed with severe pain in my lower stomach. I have noticed side effects, i.e., lethargic, leg pain, etc. I still feel like I have to urinate even though I just did. I'm still having the usual symptoms of pressure, pain, and frequency... In fact, it feels worse. I have a call into my doctor, but wanted to let it run its course."

Ciprofloxacin "Please don’t take these pills, the damage it causes is irreversible! I took two pills, one in the morning and another in the evening, and I started feeling tingling and burning in my lower arms and legs that night. The next day, I couldn’t walk and had to crawl to the bathroom and had pain in all my joints. In the weeks and months following, I experienced neuropathy in my hands and feet, blurred vision, tendinitis, tinnitus, insomnia, anxiety, panic attacks, nightmares, unable to regulate my body temperature, cracking joints throughout my entire body anytime I moved, my hair got very coarse like brush bristles, my nails became deformed and brittle, and many of my teeth broke or cracked. Cipro combined with NSAIDs, steroids, and other drugs that cross the blood-brain barrier are deadly."
