"I'm 27. I got prostatitis and took Cipro for 1 month, and all symptoms were gone. Then they came back. I took Ofloxacin for 20 days without any improvement. I started Cipro again, and now it is the 25th day, and nothing happens. I hope I will get better soon."

Ciprofloxacin "I was prescribed Cipro for 45 days to combat a prostate infection. I had to stop taking it after about 40 days because I developed a dull pain with spasm in the kidney area. Laid awake the last few days with an odd headache and because of that discomfort. I can't attribute this change in health to anything but the Cipro. Deploying in 30 days, so no time to do testing. Hoping this will go away."

"This will be my 2nd experience with Cipro, the first was for an injection infection (7-day prescription vs. prostatitis 6 weeks). My infection was considered fairly serious, so I think I will continue to see improvement until week 3. Doctors generally tone down the sides handing this to you, but will admit sides 'yea you'll have that' when you get them. I warn the side effects can be terrible. Everyone reacts a bit different. I know anytime I take this by day 4's dose, I begin to have soft stool that burns the anus and causes skin bleeding. Excessive wiping is bad, as it only irritates - try some petroleum to the area. Also, this antibiotic is really bad on healthy gut bacteria. Recommend yogurt and probiotic. Keep the 2-hour calcium rule in mind and drink crazy amounts of water."

"Warning - I have had chronic prostatitis for years and usually have a couple of events each year that need extended periods of weeks taking ciprofloxacin. The tablets have been marked as 'do not prescribe' on my prescription after my calf muscle suddenly failed during a short meandering walk this month. After 3 weeks of rest and the use of a private physiotherapist, I have at last been able to carefully stretch my calf muscles back to near normal. I was so lucky that I did not tear my Achilles tendon and need surgery to walk again."

"Didn't have the prostatitis this was prescribed for, did however suffer from side effects for the past 3.5 months. Have just finally been able to walk around normally, still can't carry heavy things or exert myself. This is poison, avoid if you can. They don't give out black box warnings to every drug, do your research and don't take this medication unless absolutely necessary. I took 3 1000mg pills, dose of 1 per day."

"I had chronic prostatitis for years. Took ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice daily. The first few days it worked like magic, all my symptoms almost completely gone. By the end of the first week, symptoms returned somehow. After 2 weeks of treatment, symptoms were all there back again. Completed 45 days (over 6 weeks) of treatment and then stopped it. Don't know exactly why it didn't work. Side effects included some headache, dizziness, anxiety, and lack of sleep."

"I had an allergic reaction to Cipro in which my patella tendons started burning, in which I started having knee pain, joints cracking, and pain in my tendons. I think what most people don’t realize is that this isn’t normal side effects for most people. I most recently got diagnosed with EDS, which is very underdiagnosed and is a connective tissue disorder. All fluoroquinolones have an affinity for connective tissue, which will exacerbate any underlying connective tissue disorder. I’m 40 years old and never had any issues until taking Cipro. If you have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, you may not even know it until taking Cipro or any alone, but taking quinolones should be a last resort for anyone with EDS. It is an inheritable disease. I was only on Cipro for 5 days."

"Prescribed doxy first for 21 days, no change, cipro for 28 days 95% cleared it up. Then after 5 weeks off them and symptoms slowly coming back I fear. Absolutely no side effects but was warned by doctor about Achilles rupture possibility as I run... 48 years old."

"Understanding how approximately 5-10% of prostatitis cases are bacterial-related, I don't dismiss the appropriateness of prescribing this drug. However, ciprofloxacin not only did nothing for me during my 30 days of usage, but also gave me a permanent sunburn and strep in an area of my body that antibiotics have had extreme difficulty in eradicating. I must warn of taking extreme precaution when using this drug; in my experience, it was poison."

"Symptoms of prostatitis will go away, but the side effects are no joke. I started my cycle after finding all of the reviews online. After 4 doses of a 2-week supply, I called the nurse practitioner who wrote the script and told her I'm done. If you research online, you'll find that Cipro is one of the big guns in antibiotics, so if your primary suggests it to you right off the bat, ask for options."

"Have moderate prostatitis. Prescribed Cipro for 1 month. Helped slightly, but at least the condition didn't worsen. Had no side effects. Dr. switched me to doxycycline. Slight improvement first 3 weeks. More improvement week 4 and 5. PSA and symptoms continue to decline. Some experts recommend a longer antibiotic course for prostatitis... up to 12 weeks, because of the difficulty drugs have penetrating the prostate gland."

"I recently was diagnosed with prostatitis. I had to go to the ER, and they gave me one week of 500 mg of cipro. All was good, but I ran out, and one day off the cipro, my symptoms returned. I went back to the ER, and they gave me two weeks of levofloxacin. My symptoms were gone, and I was one week off the levo, and then my symptoms came back twice as bad. I finally got a hold of my family doctor, and she prescribed 28 days of doxy. Unfortunately, the doxy only kept increasing symptoms at bay. I felt fine in the morning, but as my day went on, my symptoms got worse, and by the end of the day, I was in complete agony. I got a hold of the doctor today, and she prescribed me 250 mg of cipro for 30 days. Hopefully, this does the job. Those not having success with cipro probably have non-bacterial prostatitis. Antibiotics are ineffective for this type of prostatitis."

"For a prostate biopsy, I was given a five-day course, twice daily, 500 mg CIPRO. Now I have black stools and severe stomach pain. The internet search says this is a 'rare' CIPRO side effect, i.e., bleeding in the stomach or upper intestines. Wish someone would tell me how to cure this, without more antibiotics, mad as anything!"

"I have had a terrible experience. Do not take this unless it is a life or death situation! I was prescribed for prostatitis and got hives, sweats, anxiety, sleep issues, and more. This should not even be an option, especially when others are available."

"I’ve had one course and have chronic fatigue symptoms, heart pounding, shaking, and burning in my left arm through to my thumb, and if I stand up, I feel like throwing up. I break into tears every few hours and asked my misses if she would help me do a will. My head hurts, and I can’t remember things, and my eyes hurt, and I have a constant humming in my head and can’t sleep as I’m in a constant panic attack with a pounding heart. That was 4 days ago, and only two tablets 500. Imagine how you would be after a course of 28, two a day. I've never been so sick and scared. Read the reviews and take note of the percent that it helps. You have one body and one life, and everyone reacts differently. I hope this makes you do your research as it’s not the only antibiotic, but it’s pushed first and has the most severe side effects."

"2 years prostatitis unknowingly, diagnosed a year ago. I had no response to treatment. I've tried all things from antibiotics, including taking cipro 500 mg twice a day for about three weeks. Tried herbal medicine, diuretic, and anti-inflammatory pill for more than one month. Symptoms of frequent urination, testicular and back pain have been improved. Since it has been a long-time condition, the doctor told me I need another several months to cure it."

Ciprofloxacin "The drug is the best for this issue. I've had 2 other bouts of bacterial prostatitis and Cipro is the drug for this problem. It is a regimen of 6 to 7 weeks of a dosage to work. Just be patient, but it does work!"
