"Put on 30 days of Cipro 1000 mg/day for suspected prostatitis based on pain during a rectal exam, all other symptoms had gone away by the time I saw the urologist. Day 5 I took the pill, my feet and ankles swelled up, and it was very difficult to drive my car or climb stairs. A few days later, one of my ankles is still tight, and the foot on that side tingles when walking around. Hopefully, these side effects will go away. Prior to starting, I did have pain in my left abdomen and a heavy feeling in my left testicle, and these seemed to go away 3 or 4 days into the treatment, so I can't say the medicine didn't work at all. I am left hoping this tendon pain in my feet will subside, and I can return to usual activity. Was told to never take Cipro again."

Ciprofloxacin "Well, I am 34 and have had prostatitis a few times. I have tried Doxy, Cipro, and E-Mycin. The first time I took Cipro, it gave me bad anxiety and the feeling of an elevated pulse, so my doctor switched me to Doxy, which had helped me in the past. The Doxy has the least amount of side effects if you are taking it for 3-4 weeks. Cipro is the stronger drug and probably will work better for prostatitis, but the side effects, if you get them, are pretty brutal. The last time I took it in a desperate effort, it gave me leg cramps and foot pain, so that was a red flag because of the black box warning. So, I guess it's back to Doxy. All drugs have side effects, but if it was a life or death deal, I would take the Cipro."

"Cipro works, and I took it for 30 days, but everyone has a threshold for this medication. Some it’s a day, and some it’s 50 days. I have been sick since 2016 with Cipro toxicity. Now it’s 2021, and it came back. So back to the doctor next week. Bactrim didn’t work either, it just lowers your GFR numbers for your kidneys. No thanks. I took doxy for acne years ago, and it worked and never gave me issues. So I will ask for that. Anything at this point is better than Cipro and Bactrim. There are lawsuits currently on Cipro in the UK for its permanent side effects. Cipro is poison and should be taken off the market. And lastly, “Gulf War Syndrome” is directly related to our soldiers taking Cipro as a prophylactic for possible anthrax exposure. Sad but true. At all costs, avoid Cipro and Bactrim. I don’t care who you are or how strong you think you are. I am a military veteran of over 20 years with 20+ years in the medical field."

"30-year-old male, healthy, no problems. Diagnosed a few weeks ago with a prostate infection, and the doctor prescribed a 10-day course of Cipro. I had noticeable improvement of symptoms in just a few hours. Cipro is an extremely potent antibiotic, but you're about to find out the reason I only gave this med a 5. Cipro is also EXTREMELY dangerous to some people. And you won't know until you take it if it's YOU this med will destroy. Prescribed 500 mg Cipro 2x daily. After taking the second pill, my heart started skipping beats, and every joint in my body started making 'popping' noises. Immediately stopped medication, but it was too late. I couldn't walk for 2 weeks. I also went through months of hell: peripheral neuropathy, anxiety attacks, tremors."

Ciprofloxacin "I went to the doctor for UTI symptoms. Put on Cipro for ten days. Got rid of symptoms, but once off, symptoms came back a day later. Went back to the doctor and was diagnosed with acute bacterial prostatitis. Was put back on Cipro for six more weeks. Cipro gets rid of the bacteria causing prostatitis. It gets rid of all harmful bacteria, however, it’s not an overnight fix. It takes weeks for it to work. The condition is painful, and waiting for the medicine to work is frustrating. Cipro also gets rid of beneficial bacteria. It gave me horrible constipation, but I’d much rather have that than a bacterial infection. Put yourself on probiotics during the duration of your treatment and sometime afterwards."

"I was on Cipro for 4 weeks for prostate, kidney infections. It cleared up the kidney infection in a week, but I still had prostate problems till week 3. I felt fine for 3 weeks, but that last week of Cipro was tough to take, and my body was getting tired, and I was having trouble sleeping."

"This is one of those drugs where the cure is almost as bad as the disease in my case, but it does work. I was prescribed a two-week course of Cipro (500 mg twice daily). Four days into treatment for prostatitis, I'm finally able to urinate again without standing around for what feels like forever, and most of the major symptoms are fading. However, the side effects of Cipro are a little ugly. Brain fog, dizziness, fatigue, increased heart rate, and insomnia are the ones I've been going through. I'm rating Cipro fairly high because it is working for me, I'm just going to have to slog through the side effects for another 10 days."

"I'm 20, and I had problems urinating for days and went to the hospital for back and abdominal pain as well, but they couldn't find anything wrong. After going through 2 more doctors, one suggested quickly looking at my prostate, and I had acute prostatitis. Took Cipro that night and have never felt worse. Within 2 hours, I couldn't eat, everything I did made me want to throw up, and all I could do was lie in my bed in a ball. Went to the doctor again, and he prescribed Bactrim since it's easier on nausea. The nausea has gone down a little, but Cipro stays in your system for 48 hours, so I still feel awful and will never be able to take it again."

Ciprofloxacin "I had a prostate infection and was prescribed Cipro XR for ten days. The infection cleared, but after taking the medication, I lost all sense of smell. I finished the course of antibiotics the second week in November 2017. I was told the anosmia (lack of smell) is temporary and my sense of smell would return, but it is now mid-May 2018 and I still have no smell and cannot taste any food that I eat."

"I was prescribed Cipro for a prostate infection in 2012. I took three pills. One Friday night, one Saturday morning, and one Saturday night. Sunday morning, I woke with intense pain in my right Achilles and right ankle. I could barely walk, and I think that if I had taken one more pill that I would have ruptured my Achilles. I was diagnosed by an orthopedic specialist as having acute tendonitis in my Achilles. I went through two rounds of physical therapy, and then later on that year my right shoulder began to ache. I was diagnosed with acute tendonitis and went through two rounds of therapy and two cortisone injections in my shoulder. A few months later, I was diagnosed with rosacea, and my ears developed a permanent ringing. I eventually got better, but my foot occasionally hurts, and so does my shoulder. My rosacea and ringing in my ears are still with me. I was once very active. I played in two senior softball leagues and a tournament team, but I never played again."

"A 12-day course of Cipro completely eradicated my prostatitis. If I recall correctly, symptoms (urine frequency, urine speed, weird feeling beneath testes) were completely gone about halfway through the course. I am now a few months removed from that treatment and have developed some GI problems. Currently undergoing tests, so may or may not be related to the Cipro; correlation does not equal causation. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE A GOOD PROBIOTIC, especially Florastor/Saccharomyces Boulardii. I did NOT."

"I was prescribed “Ciprofloxacin” for 4 weeks due to prostatitis 3 years ago. I was told by my GP it would give me “diarrhea!” and I had to take probiotics to soothe my stomach. I can remember having stomach cramps while taking the medication, as well as nausea, but it wasn’t too bad at all."

"Ciprofloxacin side effects for me are: eye floaters, severe anxiety, panic attacks, irregular heartbeat, myoclonus (muscle jerks/spasms/twitches), internal vibrations and tremors, eye pressure/pain, eye strain, severe dry eye, peripheral neuropathy, ear symptoms: aural fullness, feelings of electric shocks/stinging/burning/liquid/cooling sensations deep in the inner ear, eardrum flutter and tightness, pain hyperacusis (noxacusis), sound-induced pain, facial nerve/teeth/neck/shoulders pain from ears, autophony, high frequency sound distortion, intermittent reactive tinnitus including musical ear syndrome (auditory hallucinations), muscle aches in jaw, lower back, neck, pelvis, right wrist, ankles, and knees. Like coming down with a rare disease overnight. Had to go back to my GP, an ophthalmologist, an audiologist, and soon an ENT neurotologist. Bayer, give me my health back! Give me my life back!"

"I read a number of reviews on here before deciding that I would take my 6-week script of cipro as prescribed. I was a 22-year-old male, in great health. I had prostate issues that I now know weren't even bacterial. Months later, I am having issues with my calves, and walking is hell. Doubt it will ever go away. Also got C. diff from taking cipro. Literally avoid taking this at all costs unless absolutely necessary. Ruined my life."

"I started Cipro for a diagnosed prostatitis that was even questionable as being bacterial. Most urologists don't do the massage and urinalysis to detect bacteria and then empirically 'guess' that your problem is bacterial. I was given Cipro. Do your homework. 95% of all chronic prostatitis is non-bacterial. Regardless, two weeks of Cipro left me with a 'sunburned' feeling face with dry eyes and lips. Both urologists consulted said they had never heard of such a side effect, but the internet is full of them, and my allergist confirmed. I went on a Medrol dose pak that worked great for two days, but symptoms returned as I weaned off the product. It has taken two weeks for the symptoms to begin to improve. I was a very anxious time."

"Cipro stopped my prostatitis on two occasions, but it blew out my knee once and my Achilles tendon with tendonitis and took over six months to recover. Additionally, I ended up with ulcerative colitis. This time, I had diverticulitis concomitant with prostatitis, so I took MMS, three drops with 8 ounces of water, and within 2 hours, the pain completely stopped. By the next day, I wasn't having to get up six times a night to pee. The medical profession is terrified of the stuff, but if you do the proper research, you will see it is not what they say it is. I have a background in medical research, and it is clearly misrepresented something else by all of its naysayers. I saw the same opposition with oxidative therapies, but they work."

Ciprofloxacin "30-day prescription up to 60. After the first week of mild nausea and mild diarrhea, I developed a weird tightness in my right hip, severe tennis elbow, and weird pain/headache behind my left eye for 2-3 days, bloating, some nights unable to sleep due to insomnia and tremors/weird body vibrations. Mornings were hell due to my coffee drinking and the foggy brain. Do not drink coffee while taking this! 3 weeks after stopping, I still have some prostatitis symptoms but have greatly improved. However, the side effects from the med of muscle tightness, brain fog, foot pain, hip pain, back tightness, lack of appetite, and fatigue still remain but seem to be subsiding a bit. I wish the docs would explain the meds they prescribe, but I don't think they really know!"

"Worked for me, took away a burning aching sensation in the prostate. Took for 3 months straight...a full course. When it stopped hurting within 2 weeks, then I just kept on taking 500 mg twice a day. Hasn't returned since!"

"Before I explain my experience, I need to explain that I have a congenital defect in my feet termed 'bilateral subtalar tarsal coalitions.' Typically, I'm in pain my podiatrist equates to 'walking on two broken ankles 24/7.' After three days on Cipro for bacterial prostatitis, my extensor tendons, across the tops of my ankles, became unusually inflamed and excruciatingly painful. Very literally, I couldn't walk for two days and had to rely on a cane to walk. Simultaneously, I had odd pains in my forearms. I was instructed to immediately stop taking the Cipro. Simply put, my urologist completely ignored the warnings and my lifelong battle with a disabling chronic foot disorder, and I'm never taking this medication again! It's just not worth it."

Ciprofloxacin "I am 56 and have been on tamsulosin 0.4 mg for 2 years with great results. After year one, I needed two a day but did well. Out of nowhere, the symptoms returned, constant feeling I had to go. I went to my family doctor and went over the symptoms. He was going to add Propecia but did say it may take weeks to get relief. To be honest, I have no idea how guys can stand that feeling and pain in the penis for months. Anyway, he said try Cipro 500 mg first for a week before the Propecia so we know what helps. It may be prostatitis. I have read all the negative reviews of this drug and can only say how I did. I was prescribed enough for a week. Within 2 days, I was back to normal. Symptom free, I go back in a few days to see the doctor and am not sure if he will extend it, but if he does, it will be fine by me. I have zero problems on this drug so far. Best move I made as to say, Doc, I really don't know how I can do this for a month. When I did, he also tried the Cipro."

"I was prescribed Cipro for a suspected case of prostatitis. After 3 days, my ankles started feeling stiff. The morning of day 4, my feet, ankles, and my Achilles started feeling tight, and I called my doc. Got off of it and switched to doxycycline. I'm 35, very healthy. In fact, this was my first time going to a doctor in nearly 20 years. I was a 3-sport athlete in high school, and I haven't had any issues with my joints and legs until I took this drug. I just hope my symptoms go away after a few days, I don't want to live the rest of my life with weak-feeling feet/ankles. Ask your doctor for alternative treatments before taking Cipro."

"Was prescribed this medicine for my own self-diagnosis of prostatitis since I told my doctor that my symptoms related mainly to it, so he called me in cipro without any further testing. Don't remember the dose, but I think 250-500 mg twice a day for two weeks. At first, I felt fine until like 5 days into it I got diarrhea, sharp stomach pains, headaches, dizziness, itching, or pin-like feelings, and today I called and asked if I could stop it because of the nausea, and I can't sleep well, and it makes me feel weak. So I've officially stopped it. Had feelings of anxiety as well. First time taking it, and I hope I don't have to ever again."

"I'm 27. I got prostatitis and took Cipro for 1 month, and all symptoms were gone. Then they came back. I took Ofloxacin for 20 days without any improvement. I started Cipro again, and now it is the 25th day, and nothing happens. I hope I will get better soon."

"It eliminated my prostatitis but left me with plantar fasciitis in both feet and tendinitis in my arm. I used to play tennis twice a week without any tendon issues. I was on Cipro for 30 days, twice a day and, 2 months later, still have plantar fasciitis in both feet after doing nothing but walking."

"Ciprofloxacin is a bad medicine, a lot of side effects, hard on the system if you are 76 years old. Hurts after you eat. I had burning of the rectum after taking 10 pills, and I should not have that well into the regimen. Take this off the market. This med is bad. Amoxicillin is the best with very few side effects."
