Benzonatate for Cough "I use these particular for a dry cough I get. They work best when I just have a nagging cough that is nonproductive and my coughing creates irritation that produces more coughing. They stop the cycle. If I have a bad cough from a cold with full lungs, my doctor gives me something different."

For Cough "This medicine has saved my life. I had pneumonia for 2 months on 2 kinds of antibiotics. I couldn’t get well until I started benzonatate. My deep tracheal cough significantly improved. By day 10, mucus evaporated and overall strength came back. I call it the 'angel of mercy.'"

For Cough "This stuff is absolutely worthless. I’m shocked there are people who had it work for them, but the four times I’ve been prescribed this for coughs, it has helped my cough as well as eating a pebble. I’m still coughing so hard that I’m throwing up, and this crap does nothing to calm down my lungs or whatever crap it’s supposed to do. Luckily, you can take it with NyQuil, so I was able to get some sleep, but I’m so over doctors prescribing this crap. My doctor this time got me by calling it by Tussinex. Damn, she got me good."

Benzonatate for Cough "So I get sinus infections all the time. I got nervous the last time because the doctor made a comment about how I wouldn't be able to get the cough syrup with codeine that I relied on to stop me from coughing (it was literally the only thing that worked). This time I got prescribed Tessalon along with a Z-pack and Sudafed. It feels like magic. Where had this been my whole life? Normally, my chest is in pain, and I can't take more than one breath without coughing. I'm taking 100 mg every 4 hours and just slept 6 hours straight!!!! This is unheard of for me. I will be asking for this every time I have a cough."

Benzonatate for Cough "An upper respiratory infection sent me to an urgent care center, where 100 mg of Tessalon Perles was prescribed. This lowest dosage relaxed the lung muscles, so I didn't suffer from the coughing spasms, and while I still had to sleep sitting up, I was more comfortable. The prescription was for 3 times a day, but I only took it twice daily. A follow-up visit to my primary care doctor resulted in a prescription for 200 mg twice daily, and that dosage was too much for me. I had a scary episode resembling a heart attack and stopped the medication immediately. Heart pounding, chest muscles tightened front and back, profuse sweating, dizziness, one episode of vomiting. I consumed large quantities of water to flush the drug out of my system and will never take it again."

Benzonatate for Cough "I have been sick with a nasty cold for over a week. Worst symptom is a deep cough that has made my chest very sore. Urgent care prescribed Tessalon Perles. I used this medication several years ago, and it did nothing for my cough, and I had bad side effects (nausea). But I was desperate for relief, so I filled the prescription... I am so glad I did. I am finally getting some relief from the cough and no side effects this time!"

Benzonatate for Cough "I was given this prescription due to a 3-week-long virus, excessive coughing-day and night. It does stop the cough, but I was allergic to it. I thought my lip blew up from the spicy chicken wings the night before. I kept taking it. It poisoned my system. I had no idea why my virus was now nauseating my stomach and twice I would vomit because of it. The side effects are obviously different on everyone! PLEASE read the labels and medical staff-PLEASE tell your patients that things can happen and they need to react to EVERY reaction that is NOT normal or feels good. My lip blew up. It looked like Botox. I drank all kinds of cold beverages to get the swelling down. I had NO idea the path it would take was to make me sicker."

Benzonatate for Cough "I was prescribed 10 days of Tessalon for my persistent cough and received benzonatate instead. It's day 5 of taking it, and it has not helped in the slightest. My cough has not slowed down or been relieved even a little bit."

Benzonatate for Cough "I have had the Tessalon Perle prescribed for me twice now in the past 6 mos. Neither time has it worked for my cough. I have COPD and get bronchitis at least twice a year. This by itself will NOT treat bronchitis, you need an antibiotic. In the past, I've had a doctor at Urgent Care prescribe a cough syrup with codeine in it because my cough (especially at night when laying down) was so bad I wasn't sleeping, and abdominal muscles ached from coughing so much. That was a Godsend and is usually the only thing that helps with this type of cough. I have told my doctor to not waste time calling in a script for the Perle anymore. It's a waste of money."

For Cough "This stuff worked when nothing else would. I just couldn't stop coughing from a seasonal allergy cough that turned into a nasty cold. The coughing was wearing me down. I was exhausted. After one use, my coughing slowed down and eventually only a couple of light coughs a day. I was able to get some rest and finally started to recover. It was a game changer."

Benzonatate for Cough "I have been very sick with the flu for 6 days and have coughed almost non-stop for the last 3. This medication does nothing for me at all. I was prescribed this a few years ago and got the same result. My eyes burn and my throat burns from the constant coughing. I wish I had been prescribed something that actually works."

For Cough "I would like to say this. I was on lisinopril prior to taking this, with the lisinopril causing the coughing episodes that I have had for the last 5 years. As anybody's experience is different, things besides just not working for you. What I have found my experience was very scary, as I felt this medication almost go through my body. I know that sounds kind of strange, but once it hit my shoulders and my neck and got into my head, my head felt like I was in a bubble underwater. Something, I just kept getting this pounding noise in my ear. I can feel my blood pressure starting to rise, my heart was palpitating like it was coming out of my chest. I did not have a blood pressure cuff, so I was unable to know what my readings were. I do know I am diabetic, and I will tell you that my checking my blood sugar shot up to 325 just 10 minutes after taking this pill."

For Cough "Benzonatate is not for every cough. Mainly if you suffer from a respiratory infection, it will do its job. Regarding a cold, forget it. It could even make your cough worse. Many have different effects from it like any other medicine. Benzonatate goes into effect immediately. So if you're taking it and see a decrease in your cough within 15-20 minutes, you're on the right track."

For Cough "I had been experiencing an annoying tickle with having coughing fits every few hours after I had COVID. These little gems have helped me immensely. I am only on them for 3 days and I was able to get a good night's sleep and with hardly any coughing at my job. I love my PCP!"

For Cough "I didn't have a runny nose or cough, which I told my doctor, just a very sore throat, ear pain, fatigue, and fever. He prescribed me the benzonatate caps 100 mg, and as directed, I took them, and 3 days later, still feel the same. No different. The pills have started to make me cough, but not bad. Sometimes after taking the pills, I fall asleep and wake up because I can't breathe. I don't feel it's helped me at all."

Benzonatate for Cough "I was prescribed this for a consistent cough, which resulted in lots of mucus. It did not work. Finally, I decided to take 2. My cough stopped almost immediately - thankfully, NO mucus. Today, I have enjoyed my best day in months. I'm waiting 24 hours to take my dosage of 2 instead of one, as prescribed. This condition had become embarrassing and tiring. I became desperate."

For Cough "For 59 years, I have had terrible coughs that interrupted sleep for sometimes a month or more. Bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma, common cold, flu...all of them left me with terrible coughs and exhaustion from lack of sleep and trying to sleep sitting up so the cough was a little better. These little beauties seem to take a little longer to work on me...about an hour...but after that, my cough is very light and far in between compared to normal, and I can sleep soundly once they kick in. They do make me very drowsy during the day, but it is far better than feeling like a lung is going to come up every time I cough for weeks on end. I just wish I had been given them sooner!"

Benzonatate for Cough "Started taking this after 3 weeks of coughing so intense that I would gag and gasp and have to run to the restroom to pee. Horrible. This was the only thing that lessened the coughing, but my doctor insisted I take it with a decongestant. I still cough, but it has been fewer and less intense."

I haven't slept in days; why do doctors do this? Don’t they want us to feel better? Today is Thanksgiving, and I can’t even go to my brother's for dinner. For Cough "I purchased this medicine this morning at 7, however, due to side effect warnings, I waited until 3 pm to take it when someone would be home. It is working wonders. My cough has stopped. This was given to me for a cough due to bronchitis. I will keep this in my arsenal of medicines because it seems now that I am 60 years old, I have a cough most times I get sick. I am very satisfied with this and will recommend it to others."

Benzonatate for Cough "Had to go to urgent care because it felt like my entire esophagus was on fire. Turns out, I have pharyngitis caused by my terrible cough. The cough has kept me up all night for the past week. Dr. prescribed the Tessalon Perles and magic mouthwash. The magic mouthwash works wonderfully, but the Tessalon does not work well, it works for about 30 minutes, and I am right back to coughing. Called Dr. to see if there was something else he could prescribe. Hopefully, I can get a full night of sleep sometime soon."

Benzonatate for Cough "I was diagnosed last night with influenza and acute bronchitis. My coughing fits have been terrible and make me feel like I can't breathe. Once I start coughing, it's a long time and a severe headache before I can stop. The doctor prescribed Tessalon Perles for me, and I had no idea what it would do. This is the first time I have felt relief in many days! I feel its effect about 30 minutes after taking it... my cough becomes looser, my sinuses and airway become drier (not so full of mucus), and I lose the urge to cough. And I can sleep! Win."

Benzonatate for Cough "Works like a charm. I take it only when I get an uncontrollable dry, heaving, gagging, sore ribs, diaphragm, forget about sleeping kind of cough if I have an URI, occurs about once every several years. If you're experiencing side effects, try taking the lowest dose possible and make sure you're hydrated."
