Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "I was sick for a few days and the constant coughing was making my chest hurt. I thought I had bronchitis or something worse so I ended up going to the ER. The doctor prescribed Tessalon Perle. I figured it was a "magic" pill after hearing about the side effects. Cool! I took one. I did noticed the cough was reduced but still there. I did sleep better that night after taking 1 pill. By the next day, my cough was gone. I did have a lot of green mucus so I took Tylenol severe cold. I did cough but it was to bring up all that mucus. I feel better after 2 days and 4 pill later."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "I have had my respiratory virus for quite some time which had turned into a infection. I was up all night coughing and with a tickle in my throat. Could not even get a quick nap in I was coughing so much. I decided to bust out the Tessalon Pearls my doc prescribed me a year or so back.. after trying DayQuil and NyQuil severe which didn't seem to be working whatsoever for my cough. I took 100 milligram Pearl and within 20 minutes the urge to cough Reduce by at least 50% I'm amazed at how quickly it works and can't wait to fall asleep for the first time in days. I would suggest trying this before going to the more sedate of a narcotic and of things with the cough syrup definitely worth it and way less symptoms and side effects."

For Cough "For 59 years, I have had terrible coughs that interrupted sleep for sometimes a month or more. Bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma, common cold, flu...all of them left me with terrible coughs and exhaustion from lack of sleep and trying to sleep sitting up so the cough was a little better. These little beauties seem to take a little longer to work on me...about an hour...but after that, my cough is very light and far in between compared to normal, and I can sleep soundly once they kick in. They do make me very drowsy during the day, but it is far better than feeling like a lung is going to come up every time I cough for weeks on end. I just wish I had been given them sooner!"

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "I had asthma as a child and can tell you getting sick in the winter always leads to bronchitus horrible coughing fits so much to dry heaving being unbearable. Im 30 so now experienced in having that winter cold no longer do i need antibiotics as the respitory infections become less and less ive found running jogging or swimming staying in cardiovascular health is the best way to avoid this disaster , but these tessalon perle that first time ive had them this year work miracles for me they almost instantly subdue the coughs two pills at a time i experience no side effects other than drowsy and they are perfect for night when your body is slowing down the cough is coming back and its impossible to sleep when you need that rest"

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "As with most medications, there are limitations for which it works. I was prescribed this when I had pertussis (Whooping Cough), about 3 weeks in, and wish I'd have had it sooner. If you've never had it, it's also known as the '100-day cough' and is absolutely the most horrible cough ever. It's non-productive, just random deep coughing, whenever it wants, for however long it wants, day or night. I had ruptured blood vessels in my eyes from coughing so hard. There is no treatment for pertussis other than antibiotics to make you not contagious. I'm struggling to imagine not having these while the disease ran its course. I'd give it 20 out of 10 if possible."

For Cough "This stuff is absolutely worthless. I'm shocked there are people who had it work for them, but the 4 times I've been prescribed this for coughs, it has helped my cough as well as eating a pebble. I'm still coughing so hard that I'm throwing up, and this crap does nothing to calm down my lungs or whatever crap it's supposed to do. Luckily, you can take it with NyQuil, so I was able to get some sleep, but I'm so over doctors prescribing this crap. My doctor this time got me by calling it Tussinex. Damn, she got me good."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "Doctor prescribed 100mg perles. I am still coughing like crazy, congested and can't breathe. I wanted promethazine DM cough syrup (NOT the codeine one - as I don't do well with codeine). Doctor prescribed these stupid things instead. Kaiser does not cover the cough medicine that works."

For Cough "I am extremely disappointed that it did not help with my cough. Unfortunately I am allergic to codeine and my doctor prescribed benzonatate as a good alternative. I was hoping to finally get some sleep at night but it has not happened. "

For Cough "Diagnosed with a chest infection after surviving influenza b. Literally coughing for hours and days -night time was awful. to the point I wondered if a cough could finish me off. Was on antibiotics and prednisone for 3 days with no relief and a swollen throat and mouth. I called the dr after peeing my pants at a work meeting in front of 30ppl. Was so annoyed this is what they sent to the pharmacy ( expensive! And I wanted the real deal) HOWEVER I feel like they are saving my life right now! I managed to sleep for 5 hours straight before waking up to a 2 hour coughing fit. I read it’s important you space them out. You can only take 3 200mg/ day. They definitely improved my quality of life for the time being and are giving me hope! If I can rest between cough fits I feel like I’ll survive. I’m happy to not be pissing myself anymore!!"

For Cough "After a night of no sleep due to constant coughing, this product was prescribed. Started to improve the following night and was able to sleep with only a couple of cough interruptions. Each night after that was uninterrupted sleep. Product works as advertised. 100mg."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "I can feel the medicine start to work after about a half an hour. I'm going on my 3rd week with a bronchitis cough and it's the worst. It gets so bad that I can't breathe and my head hurts. I've never had coughing fits like this in my life, so I didn't know if these pearls would work. They make me a little dizzy and tired, but I can tell they work. The relief is amazing. They last about 8hrs. I wouldn't say they take the cough away completely, but there's definitely an improvement."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "I've had bronchitis for two weeks and the tessalon pearles have not worked for me. What has worked, to sleep at night, is taking 2 Benadryl liquigels at bedtime. During the day I drink a lot of water, suck on ricola extra strength cough drops, and I have an albuterol inhaler."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "I take care of a 94 year old and she came down with a horrible cold with cough. Her doctor prescribed tesslon pearls and within a matter of days she started hallucinating and started going into crazy dreams. She got confused so bad she had no clue who anyone was or that her house was even hers. At the same time she was also prescribed a steroid to help her lungs. Her family would not let me take her off the tesslon pearls. They kept saying it was the steroid. It clearly states in the list of side effects that hallucinating is something that can happen. Read the side effects of this medication before taking it people. Especially when your giving it to elderly!"

Tessalon (benzonatate) for Cough "So I get sinus infections all the time. I got nervous the last time because the doctor made a comment about how I wouldn't be to get the cough syrup with codine that I relied on to stop me from coughing (it was literally the only thing that worked). This time I got prescribed tessalon along with a z pack and Sudafed. It feels like magic. Where had this been my whole life? Normally my chest is in pain and I can't take more than one breath without coughing. I'm taking 100mg every 4 hours and just slept 6 hours straight!!!! This is unheard of for me. I will be asking for this every time I have a cough."

For Cough "Pros: Best cough suppressant I've ever used. Doesn't cause mast cell inflammation, so it doesn't make me itchy like dextromethorphan does. Cons: It makes me feel stoned and very dizzy. It's fine if I'm staying in bed but unpleasant to take before going out."

Tessalon (benzonatate) for Cough "After being unable to sleep for more than 15 minutes at a time for three nights in a row even with my head elevated on several pillows, the doctor gave me this. My nonstop dry cough stopped for up to 5 hours, and then it came back, but less severe. It doesn't last 8 hours, but it allowed me to get some much needed sleep. Sucking sugar free cherry Luden's cough drop, and/or swallowing a teaspoon of honey without water help also. Also take Mucinex to thin secretions."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) for Cough "Was prescribed for cough from bronchitis. At first I was reluctant to take it as it said it caused drowsiness as I am hypersensitive to meds. I finally got desperate enough to take one and was actually able to sleep in my bed after 4 nights in recliner. It has now been 6 weeks and I still have coughing fits if I don't take the Tessalon. I am hoping this will eventually go away. The only thing you might consider a side effect that I have had is that I have these crazy dreams. Not nightmares but just craziness. Thank goodness for my doc! :)"

For Cough "I took Benzonatate about a year ago. I get really bad allergies which triggers my asthma which leads to me having a terrible cough. My doctor prescribed me benzonatate and it worked very well for me. I felt like I couldn't breathe and once I took the pill about 30 mins to an hour later I felt like a new person. Currently it is allergy season for me so, unfortunately I am in the same position once again. I took benzonatate earlier today and thankfully it worked for me once again."

Tessalon (benzonatate) for Cough "Diagnosed with bronchitis and sinusitis, I had been unable to sleep as I was coughing terribly all night long. My doctor prescribed me Tessalon Perles and the coughing stopped immediately! I felt relaxed and wonderful and was able to lay down and sleep. However, 5 hours after taking 2 pills, the effects wore off and I was thrust awake coughing something fierce again. Just wish it the meds would last longer!"

For Cough "Physicians are prescribing Benzonatate in the hope (against evidence) that it will work. Because they are getting squeezed by regulators concerning hydrocodone or codeine mix medications. Benzonatate is ineffective against persistent cough. It flat out does not work the way that medicines with opiate additives work. So as long as there are unscrupulous doctors who have literally thrown these narcotic based meds at patients for profit or whatever motivation, honest, well-intended people will suffer with medications that are inferior at doing the job. This is my second week of taking Tessalon Perle and I can honestly say that it is a waste of your money. You might as well have a honey and brandy drink (providing you don't have an issue with alcohol). I can also recommend hot steamy showers, a cool room and lots of inactivity. Get some sugar-free candies that you can leave in your mouth and good luck."

For Cough "Was prescribed this medication for my week old cough. Actually made my cough symptom significantly worse and I stopped taking after just 2 doses. I realize we each respond differently to medication. But this one didn’t work for me."

Tessalon (benzonatate) for Cough "I found tessalon very effective. Much ahead of otc syrups. My cough is a racking type with extreme pressure on the sternum. Tessalon works very well. In my opinion its ability to relieve the cough by controlling the 'nerve center' is why it is so effective."

For Cough "I had flu with a bad cough. The other flu symptoms resolved after a few days but the cough did not. I was prescribed benzonatate as a cough suppressant. I took one capsule, and within about 20 minutes, my sinuses were clogged and congested. This means I can't breathe through my nose, which means I'm breathing through my mouth, which makes my mouth and throat dry, which causes me to cough, which is the thing that was supposed to go away with this medicine. It's done absolutely nothing for the cough, and just gave me a cold on top of flu."
