For Indigestion "I have had diarrhea most days for over twenty years - severe bloating - am obese despite eating 500 calories on average - I do not overeat. I very, very, very rarely eat a large plate of food - I have never eaten 3 meals a day - never added sugar - do not have puddings - do not have fast food, etc. I eat salad - no dressing. A doctor said I had IBS and gave me ranitidine - I took it for about a month - but stopped due to very severe, intense pain under my right ribcage. VERY SCARY!"

For GERD "My primary care physician prescribed this med for more than 4 years on a daily basis before informing me about 'potential' bone loss and malnutrition. He watched me struggle for 2 more years as my teeth literally fell apart, and in 6 years did not offer to switch me to an alternative med. Did ranitidine work? Sometimes. About 50% of the time, I suffered terrible pain, including esophageal spasms, regardless. And all of my lower teeth had to be replaced."

Ranitidine for GERD "This is my first time taking it after some terrible acid reflux. The first one I took, I ended up throwing it back up 45 minutes later, and the second one later that evening took me into a spiral of pain."

Ranitidine for Pathological Hypersecretory Conditions "I wake with a squeezing sensation that develops into nausea every morning around 4:30. I get up, take a half of a 150, Zantac, and half an anti-motion sickness pill and have a large mug of tea with milk. I lie there awake for nearly 2 hours until I fall back to sleep. When I wake again around 8:00, I have a bowl, 6, of Frosted Mini Wheats and some half and half. I try to go back to sleep again and wake at varying times, or I don't get back to sleep at all. The pain and nausea start up again early afternoon, so I take the other half of a Zantac. I am in bed off and on till suppertime. Sometimes I have to take another half and a half anti-motion sickness pill in the evening. This is my usual day."

Ranitidine for GERD "Am a young patient with GERD, had it since I was 15, and now I'm 20. This medicine also always makes me vomit, a few hours from taking it. The sensation can't be held back, it just forces you to vomit, even in the middle of the night when you wanted overnight relief. I was told to get GERD-relieving meds over the counter until the doctor prescribed famotidine, and it works wonders!"

For GERD "It really worked very well. I had silent reflux disease, I feel better now. I took ranitidine 150 mg every night, NOT twice a day as prescribed. One tablet before bedtime has done wonders."

For Laryngopharyngeal Reflux "I am extremely sensitive to all medications. If there is a side effect, I will get it and usually refrain from taking anything other than the furosemide and potassium chloride I have been on for many years to control my idiopathic pitting edema. However, I suffered vocal cord injury (dysphonia), dysphagia, as well as laryngospasm after using Symbicort 160 for only 5 days. I was referred to an ENT who thought I had LPR (I do not) and prescribed ranitidine 300 once a day and omeprazole. I will not take the omeprazole, but this AM took one 300 mg capsule of ranitidine as prescribed. 5 hours later, I have marked pitting edema in both legs. My legs were not at all swollen this morning but are severely swollen now (at least 1/2 inch pitting in each leg). There can be no other explanation than the capsule of ranitidine I took this morning. Needless to say, I will NOT be taking this drug again."
