Ramipril for High Blood Pressure "I have only been on this medication for seven days. After the second day, I was having severe abdominal cramping. Has anyone else had this reaction? It did a great job of lowering my blood pressure, though."

For High Blood Pressure "Prescribed to wife - a kidney dialysis patient in her 14th year of treatment (haemodialysis) to control BP - died within 2 months of being prescribed. BP escalated to an alarming rate - seven-hour nosebleed - if this is not an isolated instance of such a severe reaction - strongly suggest it NEVER be prescribed to patients known to have severe kidney impairment. Would be interesting to know if any mortality studies have been done regarding the use of this drug on kidney dialysis patients. Noted that it raises the level of potassium in the blood, which I suggest of itself is an indication that its use in such patients is perhaps contraindicated."

For Heart Failure "I found this medicine ramipril caused me excessive itching, so much that I ended up with sores on my backside. I also found I was unable to leave my home because of the frequent accidents I was having. Diarrhea. I stopped taking the tablet, and all is well again. I was surprised by my doctor's reaction when I asked for an alternative tablet. He told me it was alright to stop and didn't offer any alternative. This is puzzling after having read why the tablet was prescribed in the first place."

For High Blood Pressure "Been on it 16 months. Got to 5mg dosage. Brought blood pressure down from 198/101 high to 138/85, but with my last blood test, my kidney function number had fallen to 34 which got me very worried. I'm having to stop taking it. I've done further research on it only to find out that it affects kidney function because it's processed through the kidneys and that it's not well tolerated by black people, which I happen to be one."

For High Blood Pressure "I was on Altace 10 mg for approximately 5 years with good success at controlling my high blood pressure. Recently, I was switched to generic ramipril, and the effects appear to be the same. Overall, good control."

For High Blood Pressure "Worried about the side effects of taking ramipril, decided to split the first dose to ease the effects. Two months and all going well, maybe slightly more tired than I was before, but can live with that. Before, BP was around 150/95, now, 120-130/80."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been increased from 2.5 mg to 5 mg, but because my blood pressure was 135/85, they were not happy with the bottom number 85. And because I am a type 2 diabetic, they have now just doubled my dose to 10 mg, and for years stated I had white coat syndrome and would not medicate - surely this could have caused more damage. But so far, so good. I do suffer from night sweats and leg pains, but don't know if this is linked."

For High Blood Pressure "Poor lifestyle and extreme stress sent my BP soaring to 196/132. I was immediately prescribed Ramipril. I took the medicine at 4 pm, and by 10 pm, I took my BP reading, it was 153/95. Still some work to do to bring it down, but for day one, not bad at all. I use a wireless cuff BP machine, Qardio, which tracks all the readings I make, which helps me guide the GP. It also tells me if I have an irregular heartbeat. Good investment."

For High Blood Pressure "After being diagnosed with very high blood pressure, I've been taking Ramipril for 2 months now. The side effects I am experiencing are 1/ I get very tired in the evening at about 8 pm. 2/ I am beginning to get a bit forgetful and confused from time to time. 3/ Sometimes I get this tingling sensation in my hands and wrists (it feels like a mild electric shock). But apart from that, the drug is manageable and doesn't really interfere with my day-to-day life."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on ramipril for over 2 years. I ran out almost two weeks ago! Since then I have had much better days and am content with my life. Before this, I was incredibly lethargic, depressed, and not interested in anything. I don't think it's a coincidence! I will talk to my GP and find out what she thinks. All I can say is the change is fantastic and dramatic."

For Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "I have had two heart attacks (one I never knew I'd had). The second one I did know about, and I am taking 10 mg Ramipril as well as other drugs as a preventative measure to further cardiac events. I never had high BP, but now it's too low according to some professionals and normal to others, 110/60. Downside: I have to be careful when standing too quickly, if I look up, I can lose my balance, I sweat more, I have constant dry mouth, and I need to hydrate more. I can't seem to get a good night's sleep, am constantly waking and fidgeting, I have developed tinnitus, the biggest downside through lack of sleep is I can't wake up and feel drugged when I do. Upside: Most of these side effects are documented, so I put up with them as the opposite is unthinkable."

For High Blood Pressure "Am taking daily 2.5 mg Ramipril capsules, Warfarin (5.5 mg), and Simvastatin (10 mg). During this period of about 1 year, I have suffered increasingly from gastric pains located at the base of the sternum. The pain comes on between 3 and 4 a.m., despite taking Lansoprazole, which confers protection for only about 3 hours. I suspected the Ramipril as the cause of the acid flush in the early hours. Have tried stopping the Ramipril. Result: gastric pains gone, but blood pressure uncomfortably high! Not even taking Lansoprazole."

For High Blood Pressure "Interestingly, my high blood pressure was discovered during my regular blood donations. The intake staff recommended that I consult my doctor. My doctor prescribed 2.5 mg ramipril (brand name: Tritace) once daily. I have been taking it religiously for 5 years now. Blood pressure is good. No side effects. The donation center now says that my blood can only be used for adults, not children."

For High Blood Pressure "I was really apprehensive about starting ramipril, but it has been fine so far. My BP has come down immediately, and I feel better. Within 20 minutes of taking the first pill, I unexpectedly felt a brief moment of a feeling of calm. I am fortunate to so far not have gotten the cough side effect. I get a very mild headache in the day sometimes, which I can live with, and I hope that will go away in time. I am only on a 1.25 mg dose at this point. I’ll check my bloods and BP in a couple of weeks. Overall, a week in - I feel glad I am taking this medication because my BP is now in the normal range."

For High Blood Pressure "Been on ramipril for the past 8 months and also taking felodipine. Before medication, my blood average BP was 160/80, now it's 110/50. I'm not having any side effects either. Took about 1 week for it to become effective."

For High Blood Pressure "I was on 1.25 mg, but this made no difference to my BP. Now on 2.5 mg, and BP is down to 145/96, which is better than 169/130. I do feel better but suspect that BP could do with coming down a little further. I am only 42, do not drink or smoke, and am not overweight."

For High Blood Pressure "After a few weeks, heart racing and dizziness started getting below normal, even after a low dose felt ill. Hospital recommended stopping taking it as my anxiety and heart rate are unbelievable. Hoping I can get it down now myself, gym from now on. Don't rate these meds."

For High Blood Pressure "58 yr old male, good health other than BP...seems to run in one side of my family. Tried everything from diet, exercise, alternative meds, supplements, meditation. All helped a little but not enough. 140/90 (morning) to 160/100 (evening) readings before 2.5 mg Ramipril per day. Within days, readings dropped by about 15 points across the board. I was taking 5 mg of lisinopril for a month, but Doc changed med due to the many side effects and less effectiveness to lower BP. I have very few side effects from Ramipril vs. lisinopril. The cough, dry throat, and chest phlegm thing is still present but more tolerable. An additional change has been the more diuretic effect of Ramipril on me, which may be resulting in the lower readings overall."

For Cardiovascular Risk Reduction "I had a mild heart attack in 2001 at the age of 62, and was put on bisoprolol, aspirin, and ramipril. I then had another 3 or 4 attacks in 2005 and had one stent fitted. Since then, I have had no further trouble, but I remained on the medication. I have asked several times why I am on ramipril, as I have never suffered from high blood pressure. The answer I got was that it was 'good for the heart'-somewhat vague advice. Can anyone suggest why patients who do not suffer from high blood pressure are on it?"

For High Blood Pressure "I was prescribed Ramipril 2.50 mg to bring my BP down, which was spiking between 145/90 and 155/85. I found the usual headaches, dizziness, and tiredness during the first few weeks. Those symptoms never really went away. I think I just was able to manage them better as time went on. My BP did drop to around 120/80, though. But I have recently found the dizziness started to affect me a bit more, especially walking in busy shops. I've gone to the GP to ask for a lower dosage of 1.25 mg. I've only been on it for 3 days. My BP has gone up slightly to around 125/80. But I shall monitor that over the next few weeks. I've also noticed the 1.25 mg has given me a slightly drier throat. Not sure if it has to do with the coating of the capsule as the medicine should be the same as before. If BP goes up anymore and dizziness is the same, I shall go back to the usual 2.50 mg dosage, I will have just got to live with it."

For High Blood Pressure "Took 2.5 Ramipril for high blood pressure. My side effects: itching. Looked up ingredients, saw there was yellow ochre in them, changed to 5 mg, which has red ochre in them, no problem. As I am allergic to spring flowering bulbs, I’m thinking the yellow ochre has something to do with this, making me itch. Could be wrong, but not itching with the 5 mg."

For High Blood Pressure "My lipidologist prescribed Ramipril 10 mg 2x/day beginning on 4.15.21 to begin treating my elevated BP 140's - 160+. He warned of a potential coughing side effect, as this med belongs to the ACE category of artery 'relaxers.' My coughing and throat tightening type spasms, like a hot flash, began immediately and kept me waking up at night. He said it was the best for preventing a stroke, so I tried it over 40 days, with minimal lower results, although I did see a few 120's, which was encouraging. I could no longer continue this med due to excessive side effects, which are starting to diminish now that I have stopped Ramipril. My MD switched me to Telmisartan (Micardis), which is in the ARB category of artery meds and typically does not have the coughing side effect. He has added a water pill, so I am beginning to get more consistent lower readings and no apparent side effects 'YET'?"

For Heart Attack "My husband is on ramipril due to a heart attack 5 years ago, which resulted in 3 stents being put in. My husband doesn't have high blood pressure, but they insisted that he must take ramipril. Now he keeps passing out, causing other issues such as splitting his head open, knocking himself out. He now suffers from postural hypertension, but they still insist he has to take ramipril. There must be other medication he can take."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on it for 10 years. I have the cough, very tired, keep falling asleep, and reduced appetite. Also, achy joints (that could be age related). Today I forgot to take it and felt a lot better, with no cough or falling asleep. I am on 2.5 mg."

For High Blood Pressure "14 years I have been on this medication, and at first, it worked, blood pressure came down reasonably well, but 4 years ago, it started climbing back up again, and I saw my GP, who took me off it and instead prescribed Candesartan. My cough has gone, and my blood pressure is now the lowest it has been for years."
