For High Blood Pressure "Diagnosed with borderline hypertension - doctor asked what I wanted to do about it, treat or monitor? I said treat, and the doc prescribed 1.25 Ramipril. I feel much healthier since I started treatment. Fewer headaches, decreased stomach acid, and improved erections. Unbelievable, yes, but a real bonus - has anyone seen similar benefits?"

Altace (ramipril) for Heart Attack "9th anniversary of 5x bypass. Blood pressure was never high. Altace, began with 5 mg in the morning, I was feeling faint every time I stood up all day. Changed to 5 mg before bed, faint if I got up to pee. Changed to 2.5 mg in the evening, OK till last night (9 years). The difference was I had the flu or something similar, had a high fever, night sweats, diarrhea, got up to go to the bathroom and found myself on the bedroom floor. No damage, I fell into the dirty clothes basket, so the warning about excessive sweat or any loss of fluids is a good one."

For High Blood Pressure "I started on ramipril for my high blood pressure (2.5 mg) at the beginning of Feb 2018 - 6 weeks in and I'm fine apart from a seriously irritating cough - that comes without warning even when you are sat quietly or engaged in conversation - it makes your eyes water - been back to the Dr today and he has given me 25 mg of Losartan that is slightly higher in dose but apparently will ease this cough from ramipril - I'm a bit apprehensive to take it but can't carry on with the ramipril cough - (I stuck between rock and a hard place springs to mind) - going to take a few weeks to work but I will update with how things are going - I'm 43"

For High Blood Pressure "Taken Ramipril since November 2019. First had prescribed 2.5 mg on 145/98 BP. After a month, blood pressure dropped to 130/90. From December on, 5 mg, and now I have 125/80. I'm happy with the result. First few weeks of taking it, I was feeling dizzy, especially in the shops. Now it's fine. Sometimes I have an itchy throat at nighttime, but it lasts only a few minutes. I'm using only powder from the capsule because the shell is built from many E ingredients. Just mixing powder with lemon juice and some water. Remember to do cardio exercises. It helps a lot if you feel dizzy from the tablets."

For Diabetic Kidney Disease "I was initially prescribed ramipril for renal protective purposes due to high proteinuria. I started at 5 mg and was gradually increased to 30 mg over a 2-year period. Side effects: sleeplessness, irritable, panic attacks, overwhelm, inability to cope with everyday life, crying, loss of confidence, unable to complete projects... I thought it was circumstantial, so over a 6-month period, I quit my jobs and focused on reducing and managing the stressors in life. But no improvement!?! The only thing left to remove/try was the drug. I went off it for 12 days and felt like a million bucks! Calm, happy disposition, sleep, I was myself again! But BP went up to 189/116. Hope there is another option for me :("

For High Blood Pressure "Been on R for a number of years, now at 10 mg there is no discernible reduction in my blood pressure since I was prescribed it! I am now on amlodipine 5 mg as well as R 10 mg, again with no discernible reduction in BP! Is my body simply increasing my BP to compensate?"

Altace (ramipril) for Diabetic Kidney Disease "I'm a Type I diabetic with normal blood pressure and I take Altace as a preventative treatment for kidney disease. Side effects have not been an issue and I'm pleased with this medication. More diabetics need to be proactive and encourage their physicians to add ACE Inhibitors and statins to their treatment regime. I'm not just a diabetic, I'm also a scientist."

For High Blood Pressure "Started the drug a week ago due to high blood pressure 182/107. This wasn't taken at the hospital when I was due for an infusion for my rheumatoid arthritis. Told I would not be given it and to see my GP. He took blood pressure that dropped by 30 points from the previous day. Think white coat syndrome may be involved. Anyway, have now been taken off it after not even a week as suffering from nausea, lightheadedness, loss of appetite, extreme tiredness, heart fluttering. Seeing GP in a couple of weeks and will take it from there. Only thing I got told when I asked about side effects was that I might get a cough."

For High Blood Pressure "I am a 75-year-old man who feels I am in good health, with not much time spent at the doctors. That is until I was put on Ramipril. I was told this was for high blood pressure. After about 4 weeks, I came out in very large red lumps (looked a little like water blisters, they were about the same size as a 50p piece). They were all over the top of my body and were itchy. At the time, I didn't know it was these tablets, so I stopped for a couple of days, and the rashes cleared. I tried again today and am waiting to see what happens."

For High Blood Pressure "A 24-hour blood pressure monitor showed my average reading to be 158/95. During the course of the day, my reading spiked over 200. Within three weeks of starting ramipril (starting on 2.5, then raised to 5 mg), my readings have been 140/84, 130/80, and 144/84. Ramipril seems to be working great, the only negative is a constant dull headache."

For High Blood Pressure "Was diagnosed 5 weeks ago when a general health check saw my b.p. was 210/76. I was put on amlodipine 10 mg for the first 2 weeks with little improvement, and now I am also taking ramipril 2.5 mg, been taking for 4 days and b.p. has dropped to 153/70. Side effects are a dull headache and feeling exhausted, but have been assured this is only temporary."

For High Blood Pressure "I had a few months of a living nightmare on this drug. It gave me a real thumping heartbeat to the point that I couldn’t sleep or even relax because I was so aware of it. It also gave me one massive headache. On top of all that it did absolutely nothing for my BP!"

For High Blood Pressure "Like some other reviews of this product, I took Ramipril and experienced the following side effects: mouth so dry that it was difficult to swallow, headache, stomach ache, strange looking eyes, just felt very odd, shaky, tingly tongue, short of breath, acidic, hot but clammy, fidgety, restless, couldn't sleep. Could feel and hear when resting, my heart beating really fast. Awful feeling, stopped taking and have now been given Amlodipine, which I will take today for the first time."

For High Blood Pressure "I have had fibromyalgia for 20 years, I had become so ill with it all, and with zero mobility, my weight had raised to 23 stone. A new doctor tried ramipril on me, and it has been a miracle from above. I have improved mobility, and it made me lose my appetite, and I have lost two stones in 3 months."

For High Blood Pressure "I've been on ramipril for about 5 months now, titrated from 2.5mg to 20mg, and have had no side effects on it. One thing I have noticed, at least for myself, is that it would appear to act in an all-or-nothing fashion; when the dosage I was at was insufficient, it caused no real reduction in my blood pressure values. However, when I was finally moved to twenty milligrams, the ramipril dropped those same values by 30/15 (systolic/diastolic). This is, of course, not to say that this will occur in anyone else, but is just my personal experience."

For High Blood Pressure "6'1", 220 lb man. Took first dose of ramipril before bed last night, 2.5 mg. Didn't sleep very well. Took blood pressure reading after coffee in the morning... 124/76. Wow, 1 dose. Normally 140/90. Will start taking first thing in the morning because of sleep issues."

For Heart Failure "Was taking ramipril in conjunction with carvedilol for congestive heart failure. It *does* lower blood pressure. For that, it works. But I was waking up several times a night with foamy phlegm. Worse, I had tonsil stones every single day (and previously had them only half a dozen times in 50 years). The most concerning, though, was that I wanted to ditch my husband and just disappear from everyone; thoughts that were completely foreign to me. Forgot my prescription med when I went on a week-long trip and guess what? The cough is near gone, I'm sleeping through the night, no more tonsil stones, and I love my family again. You have to choose what's worse. For me, my BP was only in the 130s/90s. The side effects aren't worth it. Cut out most salt instead and losing weight. If your BP is dangerously high, the Rx does lower it. The side effects are miserable, though."

For High Blood Pressure "Prescribed to wife - a kidney dialysis patient in her 14th year of treatment (haemodialysis) to control BP - died within 2 months of being prescribed. BP escalated to an alarming rate - seven-hour nosebleed - if this is not an isolated instance of such a severe reaction - strongly suggest it NEVER be prescribed to patients known to have severe kidney impairment. Would be interesting to know if any mortality studies have been done regarding the use of this drug on kidney dialysis patients. Noted that it raises the level of potassium in the blood, which I suggest of itself is an indication that its use in such patients is perhaps contraindicated."

For High Blood Pressure "Only managed 18 days on this awful medication. The dose was 2.5mg once a day. I was ok for about a week. Then an anxiety attack came on me out of the blue and my stomach has been in a tight knot since. On day 18, I can't stop crying. This is totally out of character for me. I have no history of depression at all. I have suffered anxiety before, but not for 6 years. Have thrown all the ramipril in the bin. No way will I take it ever again."

For Heart Failure "I found this medicine ramipril caused me excessive itching, so much that I ended up with sores on my backside. I also found I was unable to leave my home because of the frequent accidents I was having. Diarrhea. I stopped taking the tablet, and all is well again. I was surprised by my doctor's reaction when I asked for an alternative tablet. He told me it was alright to stop and didn't offer any alternative. This is puzzling after having read why the tablet was prescribed in the first place."
