For High Blood Pressure "I am a 75-year-old man who feels I am in good health, with not much time spent at the doctors. That is until I was put on Ramipril. I was told this was for high blood pressure. After about 4 weeks, I came out in very large red lumps (looked a little like water blisters, they were about the same size as a 50p piece). They were all over the top of my body and were itchy. At the time, I didn't know it was these tablets, so I stopped for a couple of days, and the rashes cleared. I tried again today and am waiting to see what happens."

For Heart Failure "I found this medicine ramipril caused me excessive itching, so much that I ended up with sores on my backside. I also found I was unable to leave my home because of the frequent accidents I was having. Diarrhea. I stopped taking the tablet, and all is well again. I was surprised by my doctor's reaction when I asked for an alternative tablet. He told me it was alright to stop and didn't offer any alternative. This is puzzling after having read why the tablet was prescribed in the first place."

For High Blood Pressure "Took 2.5 Ramipril for high blood pressure. My side effects: itching. Looked up ingredients, saw there was yellow ochre in them, changed to 5 mg, which has red ochre in them, no problem. As I am allergic to spring flowering bulbs, I’m thinking the yellow ochre has something to do with this, making me itch. Could be wrong, but not itching with the 5 mg."

For High Blood Pressure "Just back from seeing the nurse at my doctor's surgery. Been on Ramipril since before Christmas and nothing changed. Added in Amlodipine and again no change. I started looking at what tablets I'm already taking as I had really bad itching and a dry mouth all day. Amitriptyline stood out on the side effects, but it also had as a side effect, high blood pressure. So after reading that last week, I just stopped taking it, and my blood pressure is now normal again. What really gets my back up about this is (in my case, anyway) the doctors didn't look to see what I was already taking for pain relief and see if that could be causing the high blood pressure, they just throw more tablets at you and hope it works instead of putting some thought into it. If anyone on here is taking Ramipril or whatever one and it isn't helping, I would suggest looking at what you are already on and see if that could be causing the high blood pressure. Take care folks."
