For Chronic Pain "I suffer from severe, chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain. This is one of the worst medications I've ever taken. The nausea and dizziness are awful. If that were the only negative side effect, I think I could live with it, though. What I found extremely disturbing was the psychological effects. After only two doses, I had terrifying nightmares that were difficult to awaken from. I, uncharacteristically, felt like Alice in Wonderland in an extremely unpleasant manner while I was awake. I can't believe this medication is on the market. Not to mention, it did absolutely nothing to help with pain."

For Chronic Pain "Xtampza does not work. It says take 1 every 12 hours. For me, it lasts around 3-4 hours max. I also take 800 mg ibuprofen. Oxycodone 10/325 worked well. It would give me 4 hours during the day, where I was pain-free. I felt like I had a little bit of a life. Anyway, I fell, which caused a compression fracture in L1 on my spine. My doctor knows how much pain I'm in and prescribed me oxycodone 20 mg. My insurance made me get the 'generic' one. So now I have to go to a pain clinic. My appointment is on the 10th. So, that's my story. It does not work."

For Chronic Pain "Xtampza does not work for me, in fact, I believe it gives me more pain. As I get hot flashes and neuropathy now on top of my other problems. This medicine absolutely does not help me, yet I’m forced to take this garbage. My insurance company pays over a thousand dollars for what is essentially garbage. My former medication worked well, but they don’t want to prescribe it anymore. All this medication does is torture me. I can’t stand this. We need medication that works!"

For Chronic Pain "Did not notice any relief in pain. I did develop welts on my face, hot eyeballs, itching like crazy, nauseated most of the time. I also felt as though I constantly had the flu. I would like to go back on Norco 10/325 x 6/day or oxycodone 15 mg / 6 day. Oh - severe constipation. Really disappointed!!"

For Chronic Pain "Paid 200 dollars for 28 capsules of Xtampza ER. So far, it has been worthless, and I am very disappointed with this product and had to pay my insurance a $190 copay. Wow, what a bad decision. Wasted money that I don't have to waste on some designer drug. Definitely will not refill. I'm afraid to take it again, I feel like they are forcing us to take a product that does not work. Due to 8 surgeries and fibromyalgia, my life is tough getting through each day and night. Absolutely no help for sleep. It actually has me waking up every two hours. Just like before I gave them $200. I think we all deserve a refund for a drug with a lot of hype, but read the reviews. Happy trails."

For Chronic Pain "Horrifying. The onset for relief is 2 to 3 hours. Then it runs out of pain relief within 5 to 6 hours! If they are trying to hit the abusers, make drug and alcohol treatment accessible! And the cost is 3 times more than OxyContin...?!?!? Go figure..."

For Chronic Pain "Been on this for months, just don't understand why I'm having side effects, as my doctor says everything is the same, just time release. The first 4 weeks, headaches so severe I couldn't put in a full day. I'm a secretary, so on the computer screen all day. This is what gave me the headaches I believe, along with meds. I also got very nauseous, dizzy, and extremely moody. I put on 20 pounds once I was told to eat a fatty diet with this meal, as I guess the fats help break down the medicine, doctor never told me this, but helped a lot with being sick all the time. Doctor finally listened, as I was tired of being in a cloud all day. Also, anxiety and sleeplessness... This medicine may work for some, just not me."

For Chronic Pain "I have been suffering for many years with chronic back pain. I have DDD, DJD, stenosis, arthritis, bulging disks, herniated disks, and the list goes on. I was switched to this from oxycodone short-acting in order to limit the number of pills I was having to take daily, which I was all for. I made it 3 days and couldn't take it anymore, and since I still work and need to work to get paid, I called my doctor and she switched me back to the quick release. This stuff doesn't work, and I can't understand why. If it's the same as oxycodone, then it should work, but it absolutely doesn't. I am now scared to try any extended release because I don't want to go through suffering for 3 days again. Maybe this stuff works, but from the reviews I have read after my experience, I'd have to say it may help 1 out of 25 people, which is a very poor statistic."

For Chronic Pain "I just started this after my PM doc said that OxyContin was being targeted by most states. Was on OxyContin 20 mg for several years. Then was put on MS Contin 30 mg for a month, which didn't help with pain, but did help me sleep. Now on Xtampza ER 18 mg, and it seems to work okay. Seems inconsistent though. Some days it works great, and other days not so much, almost as if they put placebo pills in with the Xtampza. Going to continue giving this a chance since my insurance seems to approve of it after a doctor's exception request. Hopefully, it will get better. Haven't tried the sprinkling on food yet, but I will try that tonight."

For Pain "I wish I had thought to Google these reviews before I threw away six hundred plus dollars on this pathetic excuse for pain meds. Didn't get I had to jump through a hoop when taking it, and when I found out it made no difference. Vivid, disturbing dreams as well. Zero pain relief. This manufacturer should be sued. False advertising."

For Chronic Pain "Was taking Percocet 10/325 for a very long while. It helped, but only for 4 hours, so I had bad ups and downs. So, the doctor put me on this rubbish. I've been taking it for a week now. This week has been hell. No relief at all. It's like taking nothing except for side effects. God-awful nausea. Worse back pain. I just want my Percocet back. This medication is worthless."

For Chronic Pain "Been only taking Xtampza ER for less than a week and am happy so far. 2X 18.5mg a day. Little itching, which is slowly stopping. Works well and has taken the down deep pain, so I now have my life back. Been in pain for twenty years, been there and done that, and can say this medication WORKS."

For Pain "Knee damage, waiting on replacement surgery. Due to the pandemic, knee surgery has been postponed for almost a year... I need to keep working at my job to support my family. I was on a regimen of Percocet 7.5 mg three times a day... I timed them out perfectly for pain relief while at my job and while at home getting work done...... The pain center replaced that regimen with Xtampza 13.5 twice a day. Explained nothing to me about taking with a special diet. They do not offer comparable pain relief as the Percocet did.. I rate them a 4 out of 10 at best. I would like to go back on my old regimen, but due to the fact of people abusing pain medicines, they have ruined it for us, the people that truly need them."

For Chronic Pain "I've been a pain patient for nearly 20 years due to Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Switched from generic MS Contin 15 mg twice a day to Xtampza 13.5 mg twice a day. One word: torture. Constant GI upset with diarrhea and feeling like my insides are writhing with worms. A complete lack of dreaming (no darkness, just like being turned off and on again) with horrifying intrusive thoughts and mood swings. Pain in parts of my body where I didn't have pain before, or where pain was previously well-controlled. Feeling dangerously high and then going into total withdrawal (I kept the Narcan on my bedside table and told my family to check on me). I took it with a fatty meal, the same meal every time, and had a different experience every 12 hours. At no time did I feel safe taking this medication. This has left me feeling terrified to try anything else and suspicious of my doctor's reasons for switching me. I firmly believe this medication was manufactured to scare people away from opioids."

For Pain "I was given this drug for pain from chronic regional pain syndrome. Shortly after I started taking this medication, I suddenly felt afraid to drive my car one day. Then things happened quickly. I felt disoriented all the time. I literally could not remember anything. I got to the point where I was passing out anytime I sat down, and while passed out, I would urinate. My son once found me laying down on the dishwasher door, and I had peed my pants. My son and my dad said I would do weird things like pretend I was eating out and having full conversations with myself that made no sense. I remember them telling me something was wrong with me, and I kept telling them there was not. Meanwhile, I was to the point of remembering nothing. Finally, on September 11, 2020, I was taken to the ER with an accidental overdose. I had also been walking on a broken leg for a while, they said. Ended up with 8 days of detox in the hospital. I took this drug exactly as prescribed and still overdosed! Worse drug ever!"

For Chronic Pain "Medication takes 3-4 hours to work, no matter what you eat while taking it. When and if it starts to help with the pain, it stops in 3 or 4 hours. Sometimes it comes on so strong that I have a panic attack. I figured I would adjust to it, but after a month, I have not."

For Pain "I’ve been on it a week. First off, I got nauseated, then realized I probably needed to eat with it. I’m not a breakfast eater, so this is going to be an issue. But I did start eating a few saltines with it. I’m on 18 mg. They do nothing for the pain by themselves. If I take them with my breakthrough med, they do seem to help a little bit more. But they do take an hour and a half to two hours to notice any pain relief, then they only work for like four hours after that. So no way they can be considered long-acting. Also, they make me sleepy constantly, so now I have absolutely no energy to get up and clean the house. So to sum up, they are pretty worthless."

For Pain "I started Xtampza a week ago. I have chronic pain in general but usually stays in my upper back to lower. After just 4 days, my knees are swollen. I can’t bend my right knee. I have zero additional pain relief as I am on oxycodone IR. This medication is extremely expensive-$1200/60 36 mg caps. But luckily, my insurance covered 100 percent. Because after reading reviews... I will not take these anymore. I’m calling my pain management physician tomorrow and requesting oxycodone 40 mg bid. My insurance won’t cover, but with a coupon, it’s $250 a month for generic. Definitely worth the money because it works! This Xtampza needs to be off the market! And the big hoorah is that it’s tamper-proof? So is Oxy ER? ... so really? ... c'mon."

For Chronic Pain "I've had myofascial pain syndrome/fibromyalgia for 16 years. Been taking 10 mg OxyContin 3 times a day and 15 mg Roxicodone 4 times per day. The physician dosed only 18 mg twice a day. I could feel some pain relief, but it lasted only 4-5 hours, and I was dizzy the whole month. As the dose wasn't high enough, I had to use all my 'rainy day' meds saved over time to compensate. Reps need to help physicians better understand the dosing procedure. I too will ask to go back on traditional meds. Also, eating a 'high-fat' meal first thing in the morning is really difficult to face. (Per package insert, a high-fat meal increases some of the chemicals associated with maximizing relief)"

For Chronic Pain "Just took a 13.5 mg capsule and sprinkled it on yogurt, it hit me in 10 minutes, extremely loopy, but yes, it really works. Those people out there saying that it doesn’t work probably may have become tolerant of everything. Take your meds as prescribed, people. Do not overtake, this stuff works great. I feel 0% pain right now for the first time in 20 years."

For Chronic Pain "I have stenosis with degenerative disk disease. On a low dose and have not had surgery. Xtampza is better than not having any pain relief, but not by much. Very slow onset, lasts perhaps 8 hours (same as OxyContin) and unpredictable relief depending on diet."

For Chronic Pain "Not only is this a very expensive medication, even with insurance, the 18mg capsule twice a day does not help my pain one bit. What it does help me to have are abnormal, very real, and terrifying nightmares that leave me howling for help in the middle of the night or yelling myself awake if I lie down for a nap. As someone else mentioned, these dreams are hard to wake up from on your own. Nightmares like half-man, half-beasts after me, a boat ride spinning out of control down an abyss, inanimate bizarre objects coming to life and after me, odd places I've visited before but haven't. I cannot deal with this, not at all, and I will not take anymore of these. At this point, I would rather deal with chronic pain than chronic nightmares and losing sleep. Acupuncture may be my next step since positively nothing medical has helped one iota. More meds have worse side effects, and cheap generics do nothing. So now what? I give up."

For Chronic Pain "Was forced to Xtampza from former med. This medicine was, I believe, to make you ill, sick, so you don’t want to take it. That designer drug works to make you sick. But doesn’t work too well on pain and takes hours and hours to get any pain-relieving effect at all. It is also inaccurate on how they are made, there must be no controls on the manufacturing process. The 4 score is accurate, many are being forced to this medication even though it’s not effective and takes way too long to work, if at all, and it’s just as expensive as Purdue. I would not recommend this med unless you have no other choice and you’ll just have to force it down and be sick to try to get any pain relief at all. Take it with NSAIDs or Tylenol if your doctor allows it. But just remember how dangerous NSAIDs and Tylenol are. Don’t take that like it’s nothing. Good luck on this one. I only wish the designers and doctors had to take it."

For Pain "Do not expect Xtampza to relieve pain similar to a Percocet. I had severe knee arthritis, bone-on-bone grinding, but needed to continue working as a lab technician. So I was on my feet, walking 50% of my day. After 3 weeks of Xtampza and the pain just continuing, I went back on to Percocet. I was taking 13.5 mg Xtampza twice a day with little to no pain relief. Went back on to 7.5 mg Percocet three times a day as needed, and I was able to continue working for 6 months while waiting for knee replacement surgery."

For Chronic Pain "I was started on this because my insurance wouldn't cover my previous long-acting med. I was very leery, as the others don't really last 12 hours, and breakthrough meds are a thing of the past. But I'm pleasantly surprised. It does have a longer duration, and it seems to work more like the other ER was supposed to."
