For Chronic Pain "I have had a neck fusion, and I am herniated from L2-S1, stenosis, 3 bone spurs, bursitis in my hips, and arthritis. I live with chronic pain every second of every day! My pain management doctor had me on 30 mg Oxycodone 6 times a day, and Soma. He started me on Xtampza ER 18 mg. It took a few days before I noticed I wasn’t taking as much Oxycodone because the Xtampza was helping me. I’m now on 15 mg Oxycodone 4 times a day and twice a day Xtampza, and I feel great! I don’t want to look and feel high, I’m just looking for less pain. While taking Xtampza, I’ll get a burst of the medication, which I like. Xtampza gives me exactly what I need! It’s my 'got my life back' medication, there are some days I’ll only need 1 Oxycodone! I don’t like taking meds all day every 4-6 hours, this is just 2 a day! I’m feeling great!"

For Chronic Pain "This is a horrible medication, it's tearing my stomach up, and I already recently was hospitalized with a bleeding ulcer a few months back. I had been recovering, and now my stomach hurts again, plus I'm having several gallbladder attacks every day due to having to eat high-fat food trying to get it to work, which it doesn't anyway. I'm tired of being treated like an addict by insurance companies, etc. In 16 years, I have NEVER abused my medicine, and these insurance companies just assume pain patients all abuse pain meds. This Xtampza causes constant headache, general malaise, dizziness sometimes, nervousness sometimes, and I have body aches in places I haven't hurt before, like severe cramps in my toes. I feel withdrawn, like it takes all I have to have a conversation. They need to worry about the fentanyl coming across the border and leave us pain patients that have no red flags of abusing their medicine alone!!!"

For Chronic Pain "Just started Xtampza because of insurance demands. I’d been on OxyContin 20 years for chronic back pain and fractures. Xtampza is not doing the job. I’m having horrific nightmares and a racing heart. The pain relief is minimal. I’m going back to OxyContin even if I have to pay the total price without insurance."

For Chronic Pain "I have been on Xtampza ER 18 mg 2x a day, also on oxycodone 10/325 3x daily. This morning I thought I would try something different. Acetaminophen boosts oxycodone, so I said to myself that Tylenol probably would boost an extended release form of oxycodone, and guess what, 0% pain. I take 1.5 oxycodone and 1 Xtampza ER and another Tylenol capsule, extremely loopy, but wow does it help. I take for broken disc, herniated disc, torn ACL, torn rotator cuff, and vascular problems as well. Just take 1 or 1.5 oxycodone and one 500 mg Tylenol with the Xtampza."

For Chronic Pain "I have 4 herniated discs in my neck, two failed right shoulder rotator cuff surgeries, back surgery on L5, and esophageal cancer that has not spread (thank God). I'm starting on Xtampza ER in a few days for this chronic pain and was very nervous, however, it's time. I was taking four 15 mg oxy IR. Down to four 10/325 Percocet and will now be trying two x 18 Xtampza plus one breakthrough. After reading some of the real comments from people switching to Xtampza, that the drug actually works, I feel more confident. I will report back once I'm taking to give a full and honest report. I will give an honest report back as I'm not looking to get high - I just want to manage the pain so I can live a subpar but somewhat normal life, what I have left. Good luck to all of you with your pain management issues."

For Chronic Pain "A placebo could be more effective than this medication! Currently, there is a national shortage of MS-ER, causing my pain specialist to prescribe this useless medication. 5 years ago, the same doctor prescribed Xtampza ER, and I couldn’t function due to the excruciating pain 24/7! He actually admitted aloud that it was a huge mistake, so why I have been prescribed this yet again defies all logic and proper medical treatment. 18 mg, twice daily. An OTC Tylenol is more effective; in other words, it does not do anything to relieve ANY pain, but it certainly caused headaches, nausea, vivid nightmares, and extreme fatigue! Why is this medication still on the market? Very expensive, worthless for pain relief! I am currently unable to get out of bed, and my pain level is off the charts…"

For Chronic Pain "Since I was just switched to Xtampza ER on 4-19-19 and have been taking 9 mg twice daily for a week. So I really can't say too much other than I have had headaches daily starting one day after starting the medication and has not let up yet. I was told that this drug would last longer than my current medication, which was OxyContin 10 mg twice daily. So far, neither has lasted the 12 hours as it claims. I am lucky to get 5 to 6 hours of relief per dose. Neither gave me complete pain relief, but some was better than none. My pharmacy said they have never had anyone prescribed this medication before me. I was lucky enough to get my script at my monthly doctor visit. The pharmacy had to special order the medication but could not order it until they got a prior authorization from the doctor or my insurance would not process. At this point, I do not feel that I am getting the relief I was getting previously as far as the length of time. I was down for 2 days with a bad headache out of the 7 days on this medication."

For Pain "I took Xtampza ER for almost a year. It provided reasonable pain control for about 6-8 hours when taken with a high-fat meal or snack. The fat is needed to break down the abuse deterrent coating. Sadly, most pharmacists fail to tell patients that. I put on weight due to the extra fat requirement. I ended up changing meds due to the cost and weight gain. Xtampza is okay, but I think there are easier/more effective meds out there."

For Pain "I have 2 types of cancer, one that is stage 4. My doctor put me on these to try something new, but when I take it, I get severe pain in my kidneys, and my body aches where my lymph nodes are. I have also gotten shooting pains in my heart. Has anyone else had side effects like this? My doctor told me to keep taking them, but I literally feel like they are killing my organs and me slowly."

For Chronic Pain "Had spinal fusion surgery that left me with more pain than I had pre-surgery. I was burning through 10/325 Percocet, so my pain management switched me to Xtampza 18 mg. 1st night had such a bad nightmare I refused to go back to sleep. This med caused insomnia on some days or sleep with horrific dreams. As for pain, it did manage my pain, but I hope I am not required to be on it for a long amount of time. I mixed it with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and it seems to work well that way. It is also on the pricey side, even with insurance."

For Chronic Pain "This medicine is worthless. I have scoliosis, spine arthritis, shoulder pain, and bone-on-bone hips, have had 4 back surgeries, and neck surgery. I was forced to stop taking hydrocodone four times a day as it's a chasing pain medication. So they say. I know my body and what works for me. This medicine does not work! I honestly feel it's just an overpriced placebo."

For Chronic Pain "Very disappointed. Was on morphine sulfate 100 mg. My doctor wanted me to try Xtampza. Not impressed. They just gave me headaches and stomach pain with no relief from my chronic pain, plus with insurance, it cost me $273.00. Will not use this again."

For Chronic Pain "After years of trial and failure to control the chronic pain, this med has done what none other has. I have been on 150 mg Lyrica 3/day, Morphine ER, fentanyl patch, and many other meds for over 15 years. All those other meds became ineffective and offered little relief. Now, 2 months into twice daily use of Xtampza, I finally have a new baseline. Though I still take other meds and a breakthrough painkiller occasionally, I don’t feel as though there’s no help. It’s not cheap, and my various prescription coverages still didn’t cover all the costs. I still firmly believe I’m better off with this medication, and if offered to others, it may be what you’ve needed for a long time."

For Chronic Pain "I'm not getting any relief from this medication. My doctor prescribed the 9 to be taken twice a day. Since I also take oxycodone 10, three times a day, the doctor said it would be the equivalent to the oxy 10 but last around the clock. Also, I was wondering if anyone has noticed weight gain. I have put on 30 pounds in a matter of months, which I have never done before. Maybe it's my system or too low of a dose, but my doctor will not up it for anyone. I have also had a lot of crazy dreams, and my blood pressure has gone up quite high, causing me to be put on medication for it."

For Chronic Pain "I was forced to switch to Xtampza. I've been taking it for about a year now. I want my OxyContin back! The Xtampza simply does not work as well. I've also noted more breathing problems on Xtampza. I get dizzy and have more stability problems on Xtampza. In my book, OxyContin is still a better choice for chronic pain."

For Chronic Pain "My last post was taken down. Been on this for a few months. Honestly, we have to stop changing medicine that works, just because of the small percentage that abuse these drugs. Side effects: dizzy, nausea, severe headaches, which I never had before. I feel numb to the world, tired, and still in pain. Also found out that long-term effects of this drug have still not been studied, and there is a euphoric blocker in these that stops you from experiencing well-being. I get it, the well-being is what addicts crave, but for people in chronic pain, well-being is a good pain reliever, as moods affect our pain. The medication is supposed to last 12 hours, they don't, they last about 5-6 hours. It also only takes the edge off the pain."

For Chronic Pain "A big caution - this drug requires you to have a gallbladder and a fully functioning bile system or your body will not absorb it. If you are being taken off another opiate, you will suffer major withdrawal symptoms as the Xtampza won't be absorbed and you will have stopped your original opiate. Can you spell cold turkey? It happened to me and it sucked!"

For Chronic Pain "I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. It spread to my bones and lungs. I started with morphine, and it just didn't hold the pain. My doctor then changed my prescription to Xtampza ER 13.5. That didn't hold for 12 hours. Went to 27 ER. It held for about 6-7 hours. If anyone has stage 4 breast cancer and is comfortable, please let me know."

For Chronic Pain "Dr. changed my Percocet to Xtampza ER after I refused non-effective injections. My dose I'm taking is 18 mg times a day. I have had severe migraines, dizziness, nausea, sharp pains in my side, itching real bad. Worst medication ever. Even took Benadryl and Allegra, doesn't help. Changed to 1 time a day, still the same. Dr. called in lower dosage but ignores the side effects."

For Chronic Pain "I was trying this medication after being on OxyContin for the last 2 years and after getting on a Medicare Advantage plan that didn’t cover the OxyContin. It takes 1-2 hours for the onset of Xtampza, and it only lasts 8 hours at best, usually 6-7. Nowhere near as effective as OxyContin for relief of chronic pain for me."

For Pain "Xtampza ER 18 mg, 2 times a day. Worst medication I've ever been on. Not only did it not work for pain, it made me feel like I was in constant opioid withdrawal. I felt tired, couldn't sleep at night, and there's no point, this medicine should even exist. Extremely expensive and extremely worthless!"

For Chronic Pain "I have been on pain meds since Oct 2007. Just started Xtampza ER, and it takes 4 hours to work. Then it hits hard, breaks into a bad sweat, and in 3.5 to 4 hours, it stops working. This should be taken off the market."

For Chronic Pain "I have been on this med because of insurance changes as well. Was on OxyContin 20 mg 2x day plus three 10 mg a day. Still having a lot of pain but somewhat of an existence and able to work some. Been on Xtampza 18 2x day, have had to go up on breakthrough, and the doc's not happy. Keeps telling me to give it time. It's been 3 months. My biggest complaint is its inconsistency. Some days it works okay, and the next I find myself waking up sneezing. It's a shame how bad of a four-letter word pain is anymore, and if you speak up or complain, you worry your doctor will send you packing. And this month my copay for this changed, same rules and cost as OxyContin, but can't have that back according to doc."

For Chronic Pain "I have been in chronic pain for 22 years. I was forced to switch to this med two months ago. It does not relieve my pain, and I gained 20 lbs. in one month. It also gave me migraines. Will not take it again."
