Nitroglycerin for High Blood Pressure "I had to stop taking Nitro-Dur 5 because my neck got so sore and stiff. I tried it for three days, each day, the same pain. Every afternoon, I had to remove the patch, which, when done, the pain was gone after 30-40 minutes."

For Anal Fissure and Fistula "Had a bleeding fissure for several years. Nitroglycerin mixture healed it within two days. As the doctor suggested, I continued to use it for a month. I do not know if it will be a permanent fix. I did get headaches from it. Wasn't too bad though, and given that it worked... BTW, my doctor had a compounding pharmacy create the mixture. It cost $22 for a year's supply. I noticed a prescription equivalent like Rectiv costs around $500. Thanks, doctor!"

For Anal Fissure and Fistula "A month of lying on my side, unable to move without pain, drinks with Miralax to avoid the pain, and I finally got into my gastro. She spotted a fissure immediately. Two days in and the pain is gone. My prescription only requires a pea-sized portion. The tube, IMO, recommends a ridiculous amount that would give anyone side effects. Ask your doctor, no way would most people require a one-inch ribbon like the box says! Thank God Medicare covers this, $785.00 a tube? Big pharma at work… I took an Advil with each dose on day one, no headache."

Nitroglycerin for Anal Fissure and Fistula "I have never had such a severe headache in my life. Made the mistake of using before bed. Headache kept me up all night into the morning, finally had to take caffeine pills to try to constrict the blood vessels in my head. I will NEVER use this again. Rather have pain in my butt than feel like my head is being ripped apart."

Nitroglycerin "I had a chronic anal fissure that kept returning. The last flare-up was for 4 straight months. I couldn’t sit down, sitz baths only relieved my symptoms for minutes until the pain returned for hours on end. This medicine (although it does give you a headache, not unbearable) healed my fissure and stopped the pain within days of use. Only thing that has worked."

For Anal Fissure and Fistula "Had fissure for 18 months due to chronic idiopathic constipation. I used to bleed every time I had a bowel motion and had severe pain. I was on this before, but it didn't work, so trying once more, otherwise, I'll need a Botox injection. Anyway, I've been on it for over a week, and yes, had a slight headache and been very dizzy. I still am getting pain, but so far no bleeding! I will continue for 7-11 weeks, fingers crossed for y'all. I'm 5'2" and 100 lbs. 24. BTW."

For Anal Fissure and Fistula "The best magic medication for fissure pain. I was suffering for 3 months, was in severe pain, and was getting mentally frustrated, but just after twice use, all pain vanished. Really amazing product, bear headache and use paracetamol to counter it."

For Anal Fissure and Fistula "I have gone to my new surgeon. She had done a colonoscopy on me. After that, I went to the follow-up. She said I have a really bad fissure tear with hemorrhoids, so she gave me this medicine. She said it will make you dizzy, have headaches, or even fall down. I am 24 years old, I have had this pain for almost 2-3 years with blood in my stool. She even put me on a high-fiber diet. I am now taking stool softeners and Metamucil. So, she said to start with a pea size, then an inch pea size 1-3 times a day. If you can, start with 1 inch, 12 hours a day, then do another pea size if you took a shower or a bowel movement. Side effects I had: weakness, headaches, feeling a little dizzy. Let's see the results when I go back to the surgeon, I hope for no surgery. But once I got used to it, I barely had headaches. Mild, after a month and a half of using, cannot remember."

Nitroglycerin for Anal Fissure and Fistula "My fissure was recently started this year. It's been nothing but hell. The first 2 days have been hell and restless nights of sleep, but I’m having faith in it. It's super itchy and painful, but I’m giving faith in it. It has a lot of effects and gives me anxiety, but I’m willing to do anything at this point. I’ll keep updating in 2 weeks to see how it goes."

Nitroglycerin for Anal Fissure and Fistula "I had a fistula that was extremely painful for over a year, and I needed surgery. I was prescribed Rectiv until the surgery, and it helped within 30 min of using. It does cause severe headaches. I took ibuprofen right before using the ointment, and I didn't get the headache again. I’ve found that Rectiv has also helped with tenesmus and hemorrhoid pain, although it isn’t usually prescribed for that, but it should be because it gives so much relief from those issues too."

Nitroglycerin for Anal Fissure and Fistula "I've been on Rectiv for 2 weeks alongside an initial 10-day course of Cipro for a fistula. The Rectiv does cause an immediate headache within minutes of use, but after a few days it goes away, or you get used to it. I did notice relief of pain and swelling for a while until a sudden return of the pain, fistula, and swelling! For no apparent reason and after no sudden changes in diet! Seeing my doctor tomorrow to try and determine another angle."

For Anal Fissure and Fistula "My doctor had a compounding pharmacy make the equivalent for me. Only cost $22. I hear some of the people paying $500 for the prescription type? Anyway, before taking the medicine, I bled every day. No pain but lots of blood for several years. After about 3 days, the bleeding has stopped. As my doctor suggested, I continue to take the medicine for at least one month. Bottom line is that it let the fissure heal. Whether it will begin bleeding again after the medicine is stopped is another question. I hope not."

Nitroglycerin "Meh - describes the experience for me. My Dr. prescribed nitroglycerin to me after confirming an anal fistula. Pain and blood for 6 mos. I thought it was hemorrhoids but was wrong. Please do yourself a favor and do not self-diagnose yourself with hemorrhoids as this will prolong the problem. Anyway - as others described - the headache sucks, however, it is more tolerable if you stick to the plan. I was on it for 1 month and saw a small difference, but not enough - pain was still there even with a balanced diet, fiber, and exercise. I decided to get a sphincterotomy after the dismal results. I’m glad it worked for some people, though. If insurance doesn’t cover it, try to find a coupon and get a discount. It’s about 40 to 60 dollars, but if it works, it may be worth it."

For Anal Fissure and Fistula "I had a fissure for about 4 months when I saw a proctologist who prescribed Rectiv. I took Advil before using my first dose of Rectiv. Felt pressure and a mild headache. Took Advil before each Rectiv dose for the first 3 days, then tried without Advil and had no headache, just head pressure. Rectiv was effective in helping relieve some fissure pain. Prior to Rectiv, I had been taking oral pain meds every 4-6 hours for the fissure pain. Once I started using Rectiv, I was able to quit taking oral pain meds. But, unfortunately, after using Rectiv twice a day for 2 months, the fissure had not healed. (I wasn't surprised, as the studies done on Rectiv don't show a high success rate.) Ultimately, I had a sphincterotomy and removal of anal papilla (like internal skin tags caused by chronic fissure). I feel like this product might work for fissures that are not chronic and have no other complications."

For Anal Fissure and Fistula "I am just now starting this medication. I took it for the first time last night and got horribly dizzy and felt terrible. I had a headache, nausea, all that. I ended up passing out and feeling normal when I got up the next day. I then tried it again, but in a smaller dose today, and so far, I have a headache, but I don’t feel as bad as before. I have had an anal fissure for months now that bleeds every time I have a bowel motion. I am on stool softeners such as Colace and Miralax, and they seem to do the job to get me going. This all started from becoming super constipated a few months ago and forcing myself to poop. I really hope this medication works, as I am so sick of bleeding when I poop and tired of being so scared of it. I have had poops where I have almost no blood, and I have had poops where I have a lot and it’s all over the poop itself (usually after a rectal exam). I am running out of hope and so sick of feeling this sense of worry and anxiety. Any tips?"

Nitroglycerin for Anal Fissure and Fistula "This medication is a godsend! I have had multiple anal fissures for the last year. I have tried everything, but nothing worked. Rectiv 0.4 helped immediately! I will be on the ointment for 30 days, but I'm not feeling any pain and no longer experiencing bleeding. I did have a headache, but I took Tylenol and it seemed to go away. I'm not sure, but I think they have healed. I'm feeling 100% better."

Nitroglycerin for Anal Fissure and Fistula "I developed a fissure just before the pandemic and was only able to get a virtual appointment. I was prescribed Rectiv, and it did provide relief. I experienced a dull, but unpleasant headache for a couple of weeks before I adjusted, and the headaches improved and eventually went away. It did help with pain relief and some healing, but the fissure never healed, and I ended up having a surgical procedure to repair it."
