For Unintentional Weight Loss (Underweight) "So I started taking Megestrol 40 mg 5 mls one time a day to gain weight. No, I don't have cancer/AIDS/anorexia, I simply wanted to gain weight. So my OBGYN prescribed this horrible drug with all of these chemicals/side effects, and I've been bleeding ever since. Before taking it, my periods were normal and on time. Now I might have to get a blood transfusion because I've been bleeding for 10 days straight. I hate that I ever took this drug. I'm going to have a talk with her tomorrow, and it's not going to be pretty."

Fast forward to a couple of years later, a doctor finally found something to help me—Megestrol! The year is 2020. I started taking this medicine in August. I was weighing 97 pounds, and I’m 5’2. It’s now October, and I’ve already gained 10 pounds. I’m 107! I also do weight training with my husband, so my weight isn’t fat—it’s lean muscle mass! This medication gives you a huge appetite, so eat in moderation and healthy. I encourage working out if you’re able. I may not appear “thick” like most women my age, but I have a very nice and toned body! The results are amazing! I notice the changes in my thighs, glutes, and arms. When I first started this, I did get occasional hot flashes and a slight feeling of nausea. Both subsided after a couple of weeks. For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Started bleeding 2 weeks after taking it. It was like a little bit. It felt like I peed myself, and when I was able to go to the bathroom, it was all over my legs and running down. I was so glad that I was wearing black pants when it happened. It was a nightmare. Still currently on my cycle. Been on it 11 days and counting. These do not work. I was so excited not to have periods only for me to feel like something is wrong when nothing was. Just a heavy period that’s lasting more than 5 days."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I started taking it in 2019. I started out taking ten tablets a day, which was horrible for me. I can barely take a Tylenol. But I had been bleeding every two weeks, lasting two weeks. I thought I was gonna bleed to death. I had become anemic. My doctor prescribed it. It took a while to work. I have thickening of the uterine lining causing bleeding. I gained 20 lbs :( quick. But it stopped bleeding. But now it's raising my blood sugar. I can't have that. So back to the drawing board.:("

For Anorexia "I started taking megestrol in September, the liquid, 10 ml a day, and all I can say is wow. I had times when I didn't want to look at food, now I am taking this, I live in the kitchen. I am 5'0", weighing 76 lbs. I had no meat on my bones, now, after the medicine, I have thighs, stomach, and butt, and my cheeks on my face are plumped. I can see the weight coming. The only side effects are night sweats, urinating a lot, no periods for two months, and no sex drive, but I don't care because I love this medicine."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I'm curious if anyone has been tested for von Willebrand disease in light of experiencing abnormal bleeding and clots. It wasn't until years later, when my child was diagnosed with hemophilia, that I realized my prolonged bleeding wasn't normal. As it turned out, I have the gene for the disease in my family, and heavy bleeding is a sign of it. My hematologist and gynecologist are working together to find a solution, and DDP or other medications have helped to alleviate my symptoms. Testing for von Willebrand's disease has made a big difference in my diagnosis and treatment."

For Unintentional Weight Loss (Underweight) "Gained over 30 lbs in one month. I've got a belly now, but started at 116 lbs and now I'm easily over 140 lbs. I take 3 teaspoons twice a day. Steroid-like side effects at first, but pass in 10 days of use or so. I'm hungry A LOT! I will eat now until nothing is left to eat. I spend more on food, but I feel so much better at a healthier weight. Good stuff."
