For Anorexia "I always have been 85 pounds, even when I passed my teen mark. When I went to see my gastro doctor, he prescribed this. The first month, I was finally able to eat snacks. I ate and ate. And at times I would eat too much, I couldn't eat for the next meal. I gained 20 pounds, but since I didn't fill out much, my stomach got bigger instead. The side effects I had were not having a period. After my medication ran out, in 3-4 weeks, my period came, but it came twice, one week skipped after the other. Then I experienced severe headaches for weeks. After that came a strong depression that I could finally feel, it made me want to cry. Then I got the refill, and it stopped the depression. But after I finished taking it, a daily small depression came back."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I am 27 years old and have been dealing with abnormal uterine bleeding for a good chunk of my 20s. This is my 2nd time taking Megace, I took it, I believe, 1 1/2 years ago, then transitioned to norethindrone. It worked wonders. I started bleeding again because of fertility treatment, I was still on norethindrone to control my period so I could try to get pregnant. I only did the fertility treatment for three trials and decided that I would wait a little longer. So, long story short, I was back on norethindrone, but for some reason, it just wasn’t working. So, my OB gave me Megace, and like before, it worked wonders. On top of taking Megace, I had a D&C, and it’s been about 2 weeks, and the bleeding has lightened to almost no bleeding at all. I am on 40 mg, 2 a day, so 80 mg. If you are having abnormal bleeding, this drug will absolutely work. Also, I’ve experienced minimal side effects."

Megestrol for Endometrial Hyperplasia "At the six-week point, I began bleeding and have been bleeding heavily for two weeks. Also, swelling of feet and ankles, as well as a weird 'whooshing' sound in my ear. I think the Megestrol turned on me."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I was prescribed the medication for relief of heavy bleeding during my period due to fibroids and adenomyosis. The 1st and 2nd months were wonderful! I took it the first day of my cycle until the end of my cycle. It actually stopped the bleeding completely. After the 2nd month, I had some spotting, and my blood pressure elevated. I stopped taking it after my cycle, and my pressure went to normal. I started spotting that increased over time and resumed but had to stop because I realized it raised my blood pressure. I've now been bleeding for 2 weeks and had to go on amlodipine to lower my blood pressure because it has not gone down."

For Anorexia "I’ve been skinny all my life. I’ve tried different supplements and medications to try to gain weight. Most of them put me to sleep, and I didn’t want that. My physician prescribed me 40 mg megestrol. When I first went to the doctor, I weighed in at 100 lbs even. After 3 weeks, I’m already 8 lbs heavier. I want 22 more pounds, though. Haven’t had many side effects, so I’m going to rate it at a 9 until I gain my full 30 lbs."

For Unintentional Weight Loss (Underweight) "I'm 45 years old and weight sits between 114-120. I've always been slim, it runs in my family. I was diagnosed with AIDS in 2011 and put on my meds. I know I'm supposed to be 140, so I asked my pain management doctor for Megace. My first month, I went from 118 to 140, then after 3 months, I'm 161, with the weight in my thighs and butt. Only side effect is no period."

Megestrol for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I've always had heavy bleeding and clotting the size of baseballs. I had my first daughter in 2020 at the age of 27 and previously thought I could not conceive since I'd never gotten pregnant before (not really a fan of contraceptives in long-term relationships). Newly married and had no luck getting pregnant, I began treatment for a tissue/mass found in my ultrasounds. My GYN prescribed me Megace and advised me to take 2/day to hopefully stop the bleeding. I was hesitant to take it after reading reviews and finally took my dose as it was getting closer to my next period. It made me feel horrible and nauseous, couldn't do anything but sleep, and had brain fog. I never took it again. I wanted to explore getting a D&C and decided I wouldn't take the medication and planned to have a f/u visit with my GYN to discuss alternatives. Well... 2 1/2 weeks later and 3 days late on my period, I took a pregnancy test, and it was positive. My theory: I believe Megace somehow helped me conceive during ovulation."

For Anorexia "I'm a male in my 30s. I've always been skinny, but when I got down to 104 lbs (at 6 feet tall), I started getting scared. My doctor prescribed Megace to help give me an appetite. After about 3 months, I was up to 120 lbs. It doesn't give me cravings; I simply find myself eating more. In my case, there's only been one real side effect, and that's been night sweats, which can get fairly bad at times. They don't happen every night, but sometimes it will happen multiple times and wake me up during the night. For males, it can affect sex drive, but that hasn't really been an issue for me, thankfully."

For Unintentional Weight Loss (Underweight) "I was put on 40 mg of megestrol a day for being underweight and having no appetite. I desperately wanted to gain weight (I’m 5’2” and 85 lb). Today is day 18 of taking this drug, and I have experienced no change in my appetite whatsoever. I’m still giving it 10 stars because technically weight gain is not the purpose of the drug. My side effects were headache and chest pain the first week, which went away, and extreme thirst at night and some light gas. Really bummed I couldn’t gain any weight on it though."

For Endometrial Hyperplasia "I have been struggling with endometrial hyperplasia for about 5 years now. This is my first time sticking to my recommended dosage because my husband and I are trying to conceive. I definitely have cravings and find myself eating and not even hungry, so it has been important for me to really get a grip on it and try intermittent fasting. My weight is a main cause of my condition, I believe. Other symptoms I have experienced are very light, mild vaginal cramping, usually like a throbbing feeling. This may happen randomly for a moment, and then I might not feel anything for days. Some pelvic and abdominal cramping, but again faint and not often. I have a few days of old blood discharge after my first month, 1 day of spotting into the 2nd month. Going into month 3 now. I'm taking 40mg 2x a day and have a D&C at the end of Aug to follow up."

For Endometrial Hyperplasia "Began taking this medication in April and still on it in August. I was bleeding heavily for 5 months. A biopsy revealed hyperplasia with atypia. This medication stopped my period but gave me intense night sweats, headaches, breast pain, and weight gain. I'll be having a hysterectomy in September."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Started taking megestrol in July for heavy menstrual cycles. When I first started taking it, I thought... wow, this is my miracle drug. Stopped the heavy bleeding to almost nothing. That took place for about 3 and a half weeks. I then noticed I had been on my menstrual all that time. The 4th week, while still taking megestrol, I had the biggest blood clot! I was like, OMG! After that, it slowed back down, but I still get blobs of blood. And did I mention I have been menstruating 57 days and counting? Before megestrol, the longest was 22 days. My doctor didn't seem shocked. I have been begging for a hysterectomy! I had to take megestrol for a month first, second get a D & C, then they will see if insurance covers surgery. OMGGGGG, I have no life."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Given megestrol 40 mg twice a day after D&C. I started bleeding after 45 days of using it, weight gain, too much anger. Even my hair started falling out. Very bad experience with it. Doctor gives me progesterone 200 mg, and still after taking it for 9 days, bleeding is still on. I don't know when this will stop, but I have the progesterone for 14 days and then stop it and see what will happen!"

For Endometrial Cancer "I had an oophorectomy due to a tumor on one ovary and had lost so much weight and could not eat or function properly. I had increased anxiety, insomnia, and no appetite. Megace helps me sleep, and I eat normally while I'm on it. It has helped me gain almost 15 pounds in three months of being on it, with regular sleep and no cysts/tumors! Truly saved me!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I was bleeding very heavily, I could soak through a super plus tampon and a huge after-pregnancy pad within minutes. I was passing clots so big they wouldn’t fit down the shower drain. My doctor put me on 40 mg of Megestrol once a day over 3 months ago, so far, I had 2 days in a row of light spotting. I love this stuff! I’m actually taking this instead of getting a full hysterectomy. My only concern is I had laparoscopic gallbladder surgery about a week ago, and I’ve had some pretty intense uterine pain with heavy bleeding and blood clots since. I stopped taking the Megestrol for a few days thinking nature would run its course, I started taking it again, and the uterine pain started back up. I hope this surgery didn’t wreck Megestrol for me."

For Unintentional Weight Loss (Underweight) "After stopping the megestrol yesterday after 2 months due to loss of weight during suspected lung cancer, I have had continual very loose bowel movements so far all day the following day. Is this a side effect of coming off the medicine? If anyone else has had this experience, I would like to know about it as I didn't see this as a side effect in the literature."

For Anorexia "I have always been a small girl, never weighing over 100 lbs, even in my early twenties. Two years ago, I went through a depression and lost so much weight and barely had an appetite. My primary care doctor prescribed this medication, and it really helped. My appetite picked back up. I went from eating one meal a day to eating all three meals a day plus snacks. I went from 100 to 125 in about two months. After I finished the bottle, I went back down but was able to maintain a fair weight of 115 lbs. It's good for any person struggling to have an appetite and to gain weight. However, side effects for me included: no period, too many bathroom runs (especially during the night), and gas! Other than that, I am happy."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I’m 24 years old, been bleeding for 3 1/2 months, just got prescribed this pill on Thursday, and today is Tuesday. I only stopped bleeding for one day, and my bleeding hasn’t changed at all. It’s actually gotten a tad bit heavier. Idk what to do, my gyn told me it’ll take 2-3 days to stop, and it’s going on day 5 of taking this pill. I'm a tad bit worried because it took me literally 2 months to even be seen by my gyne because it was so backed up."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I'm 29 and hope this works. Bleeding for months at a time, no energy or appetite has really been draining. It is day 2 of the 40 mg once a day. I felt great for the first time in a while. Was able to get out of bed, cook, and do a little grocery shopping. Not feeling 100% yet, I'm just grateful for any improvements right now."

For Endometrial Hyperplasia "I have been taking this for about 2 weeks for hyperplasia with atypia. I had not really had any side effects until last night when I began to have these awful leg cramps that made my legs feel tight and weak. My heart began to race, I couldn't sleep (insomnia), and I just started feeling overall bad. I sent my doctor a message and await a response. If these are the side effects, I don't know if I can continue these meds. I am supposed to take 40 mg once per day for 3 months."

For Endometrial Hyperplasia "I was diagnosed with complex endometrial hyperplasia with atypia on 8/9/17 and began megestrol on 8/12/17. I slowly began experiencing common symptoms such as weight gain and increased appetite, but then I slowly started experiencing increased mood swings, irritability, insomnia, itchy body, and shortness of breath. What made me finally call the doctor on 9/19/17 was being up at 3 am with the inability to breathe. I was informed to discontinue due to allergic reactions. On 9/21/17, I began with joint pain and swelling in my hands and wrists. By Friday, 9/22/17, I couldn't function for myself at all. My entire left arm and both hands were useless, and I ended up in the ER where I learned this is all allergic reactions as well."

For Endometrial Hyperplasia "This is my story: had failed IVF. Abnormal uterine bleeding from the last miscarriage, on and off menstrual period, not heavy at all. I technically not ovulating and rarely menstruate. In June 2019, I went to see RE for a water ultrasound to R/U polyps, and yes, my suspicion was right. Polyps removed, found advanced hyperplasia grade 1, placed on Megace 160 mg daily. First month, October 2019, no bleeding, second month, November, started spotting, and I called my doctors and was told it was normal. Until today, 12/9/2019, I am spotting. No heavy flow or clots. I read an article that this medication regulates periods if there was amenorrhea, but for those who are menopausal. So, now I am unsure, at my age of 42, I am menopausal. I am very confused."

For Anorexia "I was told to try this because I’ve tried everything under the sun and hate that I always am tired or sleepy after trying the things I’ve tried, so I said, heck, I’ve tried everything else, why not one more, lol. To my surprise, after being 100 lbs most of my adult life, I can say I’ve been taking this liquid for 3 weeks straight, 10 ml in the mornings and 10 ml at night, and today, October 31st, 2021, I’m now 118 lbs. I’ve gained 10 lbs because I started off at 107/108 lbs. I have an appetite all through the night, I love it, lol, because I barely had an appetite. I eat cereal, sandwiches, oatmeal, etc., you name it, I want it, lol. But this med is a miracle worker. TRY IT."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "After having HRT at age 58, I started a menstrual period that lasted four months. I then had a D&C procedure. I started bleeding again after three weeks for another two months. I was referred to an oncologist who put me on Megestrol 40 mg (2-x40 twice daily). My bleeding stopped after three doses. I have been on this medication for three months now. I have had some shakiness and pain on my side, but no other side effects. I think the pain is from the healing of my uterus. I feel thankful that my bleeding stopped and that there is no surgery at this time. I see the oncologist in one month to evaluate the next step."
