For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I was prescribed megestrol 40 mg, 2 pills a day, after having a very heavy period for 3 months straight with tennis ball-sized clots and horrific pelvic pain. I’m now on day two, and the bleeding is almost non-existent! I'm down to just some very light spotting. I will take the tummy ache, headache, and gassy feeling over bleeding to the point of soaking through an ultra tampon and overnight pad in 30 minutes. My hysterectomy will be my long-term fix, but we had to stop the bleeding before the surgery. Can’t wait for October to permanently end periods once and for all."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Prescribed for heavy bleeding with large clots. Bleeding went on for 15 days, lowering my hemoglobin. I went to the E.R. and was administered 3 units of blood. Megace was the only thing to work to stop the bleeding. That being said, it has lowered my blood pressure significantly, caused stomach pain, insomnia, gas, and constipation. I am not comfortable using Megace, but it has stopped the bleeding. I do not like the medication and wish I could take something else."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "After 2 years of D&C, IV iron, and blood infusions on progesterone with no help, a fill-in doctor wrote me a script for megestrol. It changed my life. The other one made me emotional and unreasonable, carb craving and food obsessed all day, every day, to where I put on 20 lbs, bloat and gas, and an odd-smelling discharge. On this one, I have stepped down to 10 mg a day from 20 mg 3 times a day, and it's changed my life. No bleeding, no mood swings, my appetite is back to normal, and the bloat is gone. It's like I'm not taking progesterone at all. I understand that if you quit taking it, the second time doesn't work as well, so unless something drastic happens, I'm staying on it."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I was taking Megestrol last month for bleeding associated with a fibroid. It worked perfectly. Bleeding stopped. I stopped taking it. Bleeding started back, I started taking it again. It's not working. I have a terrible stomach ache and gas."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "UPDATE... I went to visit my OB because, as you can see in my other comment from 2019-08-01 under Reenee, I started bleeding again once I stopped and started the medicine for a 2nd time. My Dr. told me to start taking 2 per day. It did stop the clotting, but I still bled for a full week before it finally stopped. So, it did work the 2nd time, just with an extra dose, and it took longer than the 1st time. The side effects were a little different the 2nd time. I was not as tired, but I did have some chest pain, gas, frequent urination, maybe a UTI, and I was super thirsty. The end result is that I am scheduled for surgery on Wednesday. I am getting the NovaSure (ablation) done. My OB said it's very effective, and I should experience light or no bleeding at all. Fingers crossed!!!"

For Anorexia "I have always been a small girl, never weighing over 100 lbs, even in my early twenties. Two years ago, I went through a depression and lost so much weight and barely had an appetite. My primary care doctor prescribed this medication, and it really helped. My appetite picked back up. I went from eating one meal a day to eating all three meals a day plus snacks. I went from 100 to 125 in about two months. After I finished the bottle, I went back down but was able to maintain a fair weight of 115 lbs. It's good for any person struggling to have an appetite and to gain weight. However, side effects for me included: no period, too many bathroom runs (especially during the night), and gas! Other than that, I am happy."
