For Unintentional Weight Loss (Underweight) "My doctor started me on this medication on February 17, 2021, due to failure to gain weight. I am pleased to say that I went from 98.12 pounds to 115.8 as of today (a few days short of taking it for a month). The downfall I’ve noticed with this is that I have horrible insomnia, more agitated than normal, and my hot flashes are the worst! Other than that, it seems to be doing what it’s supposed to do. Has anyone else gained 5 lbs a week being on this medication? Does the weight stay after you stop taking this medication? I am currently taking 10 ml once a day."

For Unintentional Weight Loss (Underweight) "Always been 80 lbs since high school. No appetite, always ate in small portions. Taken this medication before, but the 1st time I took it in 2011, I gained weight, but I also gained esophagus spasms from all the gorging I did, so it's now permanently a side effect, yay. I started taking it again on Feb 22, 2017, weighed in at 80.6 lbs, as of today, March 23, 2017, I'm weighing in at 100.4. I haven't taken it in 3 days to see if I can keep the appetite and use it when needed. It's a great weight gain, but there are side effects. Mine include no period, no sex drive, severe cold night sweats, hot flashes, the esophagus spasms, and swelling of arms and legs when active. These are the pros that some may consider cons-constantly hyper."

For Endometrial Hyperplasia "I have endometrial hyperplasia without atypia, and my insurance refuses a hysterectomy. I have been on megestrol now for over 2 1/2 months, 40 mgs twice a day. Hot flashes, insomnia, and bleeding, BUT I have been shedding the excess tissue of my hyperplasia. I go back in 2 weeks for yet another biopsy and will see if the hyperplasia is gone. One other effect is very strong urine from this medicine. I had tried regular progesterone, and I could not tolerate it. Major bleeding and egg-sized clots. So far, megestrol is working for me. Time will tell, but I am hopeful of being able to stop taking it."

Megestrol for Endometrial Hyperplasia "I took this after I had surgery on my ovaries. It gave me bad insomnia, hot flashes, and really bad weight gain. Once I was off of it, I was okay. I am once again on Megace for hyperplasia, and I am experiencing hot flashes and weight gain once again, but now within the month that I have been taking it, my blood sugar is going up, and I am fatigued all the time."

For Anorexia "I am a 29-year-old female. I have been quite petite after having two kids (I nursed both). My metabolism is extraordinarily fast. Fast forward to a couple of years later, a doctor finally found something to help me—Megestrol! The year is 2020. I started taking this medicine in August. I was weighing 97 pounds, and I’m 5’2. It’s now October, and I’ve already gained 10 pounds. I’m 107! I also do weight training with my husband, so my weight isn’t fat—it’s lean muscle mass! This medication gives you a huge appetite, so eat in moderation and healthy. I encourage working out if you’re able. I may not appear “thick” like most women my age, but I have a very nice and toned body! The results are amazing! I notice the changes in my thighs, glutes, and arms. When I first started this, I did get occasional hot flashes and a slight feeling of nausea. Both subsided after a couple of weeks. Nothing unbearable. *My doctor gave me a 1 mL dosage, twice a day.*"
