For Birth Control "I have been on Implanon since March 2010. I have only had one instance of light spotting, which was about two months ago. I love it, no major mood changes, no weight gain, and my sex drive has increased. I can totally say that I love this product."

For Birth Control "I've only had the implant for a little over a month. I got it June the 6th. Since then I've bled for 24 days on end. Light spotting, which I hate. Also, my skin has begun to break out as well. Not really big bumps, but little annoying ones that keep popping up each day. Makes me want to go see my dermatologist again. I've also had mood swings as well, which I already suffered from. I think it's getting worse too. No weight gain. I work out pretty regularly. I'm going to try it for just one more month, and if these side effects don't stop or at least get better, I will have it removed. The only real plus is that I haven't gotten pregnant and I have sex pretty often. So I guess it's serving its only real purpose."

For Birth Control "I got mine in my left arm in April 2016. I went to Planned Parenthood, and they did the whole procedure in about a half hour. Just the numbing was painful. Um, a week after, I had intercourse with my boyfriend, and I bled like crazy. I was so embarrassed. After a little while, I thought it would go away. But it has been light spotting since, and each and every time I have sex, a whole stream of blood rushes out. It is the worst thing imaginable. It doesn't happen to all. But I've had the worst experience."

For Birth Control "I've had Implanon for about 4 years now. I just got it reimplanted. If I recall correctly, you do spot the first year or the first two years. I just don't remember spotting as much the third year. Your mood may change a bit. You may get some acne. You also may gain some weight. I don't know how it affects my sex drive. This is what I've experienced. HOWEVER, in comparison to other birth controls, this one is great. The bloating and backache that I got when I was on my period is nothing compared to the small bloating and backache you may get when on this. I get no cramps or fatigue. Depo Provera gave me hot flashes. The NuvaRing kept falling out."

For Birth Control "I got this strictly to not get pregnant, for which it works great. Had a regular period the first week, then spotted on and off for about 2 months. I've been on a slightly heavy period for almost a month now, and if it goes over a month, I'm taking it out and sticking to condoms. Also, I can lose weight on this, unlike the pill. Started using it in June 2013."

For Birth Control "I had Implanon for just about two years. The first 17 months was awesome, no bleeding (at all), and no cramps. Right at 18 months, I started having irregular bleeding/spotting almost every week. It wasn't bad, but it got pretty annoying. I just had it removed today and switched back to Trinessa. I gained only around eight pounds (which was a lot for me because I have always been petite). My face was constantly broken out!"

For Birth Control "I had the Implanon inserted on July 24, 2009, and had a little bruising, but nothing too serious. Two weeks later, I had a very painful period, where I couldn't get out of bed, literally! My period usually lasts 3-5 days, and on Implanon, it lasted almost 2 weeks. No, it wasn't spotting, it was still bright red blood. But 6 weeks later, I am still spotting! I have changed my eating habits and worked out 6 days a week, and have not been able to drop a pound! I have no sex drive either and have had more acne in the past 2 months than I have ever had in my life."

For Birth Control "Have been using Implanon for around 10 years. Before, between, and since my 2 kids. On to my 5th rod. I had cycles every 1-2 weeks, and the rod helped, no periods the first couple, then I was getting a lot of spotting, so was on the mini pill also, which worked for years. After my second child, I’m getting periods again, and the mini pill didn’t help. Got a new rod which helped for a few months, but now bleeding again, but I feel my body just needs a break, and hormones changing after the kids and age maybe. No other contraceptives have ever worked for me, my body just wants to bleed no matter what, so this has been the best of the lot, and I’ve never noticed any bad side effects before. The only one I noticed was slightly more body odor, which has seemed to settle, but reading these reviews has got me wondering, I have zero sex drive, was blaming mom life but maybe because of the Implanon? Personally, this has definitely been the best option compared to others up until this latest stint."

For Birth Control "I'm from the UK and have tried numerous forms of contraception, such as the mini pill and the depot injection, but always seemed to forget the pill. I had my implant inserted in January 2016, and up until recently, I thought it was great. For the past few months, my sex drive is 0. I have had three periods in the space of 4 weeks, which vary between heavy and continuous spotting. I often feel bloated and lack energy. I get home from work and just want to curl up in bed with a hot water bottle on my back to ease the pain. I've had no weight gain but do eat a lot. This method of contraception is good for preventing pregnancy, but be aware of the symptoms linked to it, as they often outweigh the positives."

For Birth Control "I've had Implanon for about 2 years, and I can't wait to get it out. The things I experienced were very heavy bleeding, cramps, and not just normal cramps, the worst I've ever felt, spotting, pain during intercourse, mood swings, and loss of sex drive. All of these things come and go except the loss of sex drive. Before insertion, I was sex crazy, now it's a hassle just to get ready. I bled for long periods at first, but after a few months it would come and go. I will bleed, then stop for a long period. The reason I rated it a four is because I am not pregnant."

For Birth Control "So when I first got this birth control, I loved it. I had no side effects besides the spotting and rarely having any periods (had at least two actual periods within 7 months). I did not gain or lose any weight, but I think since it is a long-term birth control, you never know when the side effects will kick in. Now after 7 months of having it inserted, I have gotten a lot of acne on my face that I never before have gotten, and I get mood swings. Not only that, but there are times where I have 0 sex drive, and I do not get wet enough. I am considering getting it removed soon."

For Birth Control "My experiences with this birth control were almost identical to the others I've read-it's nice to know I have company. I had (2) Implanons put in and removed. Upside: 1) totally effective contraception! 2) You don't have to worry about remembering to take anything. 3) No calls to your pharmacy or monthly cost. Downsides: 1) Constant spotting-never knew when it would stop or start. I pretty much always had to wear protection due to this. 2) Moodiness-my frame of mind kind of made me feel crazy and hormonal at certain times, worse than I've ever experienced. 3) The weight gain! :( I've always been really small, so this was an unpleasant surprise to me (especially when I got married last year). Just got it removed and switched to the pill!"

For Birth Control "Got Implanon in April 09. It is now October, and I have had only one week without spotting/bleeding since it was put in. Was not bad getting it put in, but six months of this? It's driving me crazy to always be wearing a tampon. I wouldn't know how my sex drive is because it has prevented most of that from happening."

For Birth Control "I am 22 years old and have had Implanon inserted twice. By my 23rd birthday in September, I will be due for the 3rd insert. I first got Implanon when I was 16 after failing with the patch and the shot. I spotted for about 2 weeks when I first had it inserted and then I didn't have a period for about a year and returned to normal. The second insert caused me to spot for a few days, and after that, I've had light, sporadic periods. I haven't had any unusual weight gain. I met my ex-boyfriend right before my 18th birthday and was together until I was 21, having unprotected sex all the time. When we broke up, he ended up impregnating another woman so the birth control worked. I plan to keep getting Implanon inserted until I'm ready for a family."

For Birth Control "I have had my Implanon since December 2009. I also haven't had my period since December 2009. I love the Implanon, though. It's very convenient, hassle-free, and worry-free! No trying to remember to take a pill every day... Only downfall I've had is that I get cramps when I'm supposed to get my period, but it never comes. Just spotting like once or twice. Overall, I love it and will continue to use this method of birth control."

For Birth Control "I have had the Implanon for three months now, the first month, nothing happened. The second month, I had severe mood swings, 'pretend periods' (acts like I'm about to get it, but nothing), and no sex drive whatsoever. The third month, the mood swings left, 'pretend periods' gone. Sex drive off and on. Now I just got my period, had it for two weeks now. Mild cramping, it's all spotting. I had horrifying, painful periods before that were irregular and horrible. So far, this birth control has been worth it. I recommend it. I don't have a scar, only mild bruising, and I can't lay on my arm or put pressure on it or it'll feel weird or hurt."

For Birth Control "I am 20 and have always had anxiety about BC and not trusting that it is working (I could always use it exactly like I'm supposed to and would still make myself sick over if I was pregnant or not). This has definitely lessened that feeling!! If you're like me, I always Google my symptoms to see if anyone else is feeling it too, so let me tell you... I've had it for about 3 months now, and things are a little rough. I've been bleeding almost every day since I got it... except for those first few weeks. But it's only minor spotting. My first period was just like normal (only 4-5 days too), and my second and third have been a little wonky (not on time), but I'm holding out that it'll get better! I wish you all luck!!!"

For Birth Control "I got the implant in March 2015 right after I decided to stop using the shot as my birth control method. For the first 8 months, I LOVED it. No side effects that bothered me, I did not get any periods (which was what I was used to from the shot). And then for some reason, in December 2015, I got a period that lasted for 42 days. YES, 42 DAYS straight! Some days were heavy spotting, or light bleeding, and the rest of the days were HEAVY & PAINFUL. I also have been breaking out NONSTOP since Christmas, my acne has never been this AWFUL. I am ready to take this implant out of my arm and go back on the shot. :( Sad because I was hoping to stay on this for 3 years. Not worth all the breakouts and never-ending periods."

For Birth Control "So, I got my implant on December 1, 2017. I’m only 18, got it because if anything happens, I want to be safe. The first few weeks were okay, but when I got my period, it hasn’t stopped. I keep spotting, and it's really annoying. I really haven’t gained weight, but I’m really worried. I’m young and dealing with this. Should I give it time or just take it out and try the pill? I haven’t had any mood swings, just the first week, but that's about it."

For Birth Control "I was apprehensive to get this at first, due to the possible side effects, but after insertion I had my period for 3 months with very light spotting in between, and then they went away completely. I no longer have to worry about getting pregnant or having my period. I love Implanon, as I can be sexually active and safe without worry! I recommend trying it."

For Birth Control "I do not recommend! I have had this implant in for a little over a year, and it's been nothing but a drag for me. It is supposed to stop periods altogether, but that was most definitely not the case for me. When I first got it inserted, it was fine, and I thought it was working. I thought maybe I got lucky. But no... one day I woke up, and BAM, there it was. It lasted for six straight months. Then it quit for about a month with a little spotting in between. Now I am at the point where I have to keep a tampon in all the time because I will have it for about two days and then be off for two days. It's very unexpected and aggravating. Sure is a good birth control, alright. You'll be bleeding/cramping so bad you won't even want to have sex."

For Birth Control "I want everyone to know something that may help you out while using Implanon. I had my Implanon inserted a little over a month ago, and I spotted 20 days out of the 1st month. I have a friend who is a nurse and made a suggestion that sounded bizarre to me, but I have completely stopped spotting after a week! She suggested taking 500 mg of vitamin C and 400 mg of ibuprofen, 2 times a day for a week. It worked like magic. I know it sounds fake, but give it a try before you give up on Implanon. It's an amazing form of birth control. I guess I should also add that that ridiculous home remedy has worked for 4 people I have met, so totally worth giving it one more week."

For Birth Control "I have had the Implanon for almost 3 years. It's almost time to have it taken out. I have loved Implanon all 3 years. I have only had spotting when I was extremely stressed, other than that, no periods, no mood swings, no side effects. It's great for busy people who can't remember a pill. If I wasn't planning on conceiving in the next year, I would get another one. The only downfall is you have to be certain you want it, as it is a surgical procedure to put it in and take it out. Which, by the way, was not bad at all. They numb you up and all you feel is slight pressure. Before you know it, it's finished. I recommend Implanon to all my friends who need birth control."

For Birth Control "I wanted to write something here because after reading all the bad reviews, I almost didn't get Implanon. But I am so glad I did. I have had Implanon for four months. The first month, I did have three weeks of spotting, which was rough. But after that, I have only had very minor spotting once a month, like a period. I don't have any of the period pain I used to (headaches, horrible cramps), and I am much less moody as well (I used to burst into tears on the spot). I haven't gained any weight at all, although the doctor did say average weight gain in the first year is one pound. I can handle that after being on Natazia and gaining 30. I love Implanon. It's easy, and I barely have a period at all. Don't shy away because of bad reviews."

For Birth Control "I am on my 3rd Implanon since I had my daughter 8 years ago. I have random spotting and a very light period every 6 months or so. After about 2 years of having the Implanon in, I have heavier, more frequent periods. My doctor removes it when I start having issues and puts in a new one. I am currently about due to have my 3rd one taken out. Implanon is definitely the best option for me!"
