For Cough "Went to urgent care, and the doctor recommended Delsym. He warned me it can cause diarrhea, so to take Imodium with it to counteract it. It definitely helped suppress the cough and tasted much better than NyQuil. (That contains Benadryl and Tylenol.)"

For Cough "First time trying this cough medicine. Had a persistent cough for more than 2 weeks, so I decided to try it as I hadn’t been sleeping well due to my persistent coughing. The medicine works great on getting rid of the cough, however, it comes with the side effect of feeling drunk yet high at the same time. I am very lethargic initially an hour after taking it. However, then I have this mental clarity phase where I become very focused and productive about 5 to 6 hours after taking the medicine. I will continue to use it for my cough as it works and because I don’t mind the side effects."

For Cough "This did stop my cough all night after suffering from a terrible cough for 5 days, but I have severe watery diarrhea a short time after taking it. My husband had the same cough, and it stopped his cough, too, luckily, he did not get diarrhea. The grape flavor tasted pretty good. Imodium stopped my diarrhea with 2 doses. I will save the rest of the bottle for him, but not for me."

For Cough "Due to a medical condition, I was told this was the safest cough suppressant for me to take. I took it before bed and woke up in the middle of the night extremely nauseous. Although it did suppress my cough, I can do without the nausea!"

For Cough "I found this page, and everything clicked just two days too late. While my cough went away, the first night I woke up with severe cramping and the worst diarrhea of my life and was unable to hold food down for 12 hours. Then I took the medicine the next night and woke up to constant severe cramping to the point of skipping all my meals and popping Pepto until the 12-hour mark when I was able to hold down a bagel. Thank God I searched this tonight because I was about to take it again! It is not expired, but rather a painful fast track to a cleanse. Never touching it again."

"I’m getting over the last symptoms of COVID, and I had a persistent cough, so my parents recommended I take Delsym. Well, it did its job, I didn’t have a cough, but I had way more side effects than I would’ve liked. I felt extremely off balance and like I was floating. I had bad diarrhea, a rapid heart rate, and even after working 5 hours, I had anxiety and couldn’t sleep that night, and that was hours after taking it! Crazy experience, felt like I was on actual drugs. Probably won’t be taking it again."

For Cough "On the wee early hours of Sept. 12, 2020, I ended up in the ER after taking the recommended dose for an adult (10 ml) of Delsym. This cough syrup made me violently sick and caused me to pass out. Long story short, I ended up with right side facial fractures and right shoulder area pain. I've never in my entire life ever had a drug reaction until this. It caused me nausea for 2 days that followed, weakness, and confusion. I can't believe this product is allowed to be purchased OTC. It is toxic and should have a warning label on it. I hope others don't go through what I did."

For Cough "Took this for cough last night and made my stomach hurt almost instantly, then woke up to horrible loose stools and stomach cramps. It has been 24 hours, and I am still in pain. It may have helped the cough slightly, but this is way worse!"

For Cough "My six-year-old daughter is an asthmatic, and the coughing she does while having a cold or flu tends to trigger it. I wanted to try a cough medicine just for bedtime to help her sleep comfortably without coughing spells. Sure enough, Delsym did the trick! I had tried Mucinex and several others for children, but felt they only made it worse. Within 35 minutes, the coughing had stopped. I give Delsym an 8 out of 10 because it doesn't last the full 12 hours, but close to it. My daughter had no side effects as far as bowel movements, gas, or hives. Just a cured cough."

For Cough "I took this medicine for a cough so I could sleep well before a final exam. I'm now up at 3 a.m. with diarrhea, intense stomach cramps, and I'm so dizzy I can't walk. It's also impossible to sleep because of how panicked it's making me feel. I made myself worse by taking this. Beware."

For Cough "I used this because I had a terrible cough, so I took it before bed. I was up all night, nauseous and feeling terrible. Then I threw up from this medicine. I don’t recommend this, it shouldn’t be sold if all it’s going to do is make you throw up."

For Cough "I rarely get sick, so I have very little experience with medicine. Took Delsym as directed for cough associated with a cold. Absolutely no effect whatsoever. I’m going back to tried-and-true Robitussin, despite the taste, because it ALWAYS works."

For Cough "I have had this deep cough for 3 days and didn't want to go to Urgent Care, but my daughter is a nurse and recommended trying Delsym. I took my first dose at noon, still coughing at 4 pm, so I took another dose. Immediately after the second dose, I stayed on the toilet for 2 hours with very watery diarrhea. I am too nervous to risk a cough, knowing that I may have diarrhea."

For Cough "I've taken grape Delsym my entire life and give it to my kids. Never had an issue and it works like magic for coughing. Today, however, my husband brought home orange because grape was gone. I've never been so sick. Exactly as described below, watery stools, nausea, stomach hurts, felt like I was going to pass out several times, felt really strange like something was 'wrong'. Thank God for Zofran as I know that is the only thing helping this nausea. I don't know why this is suddenly affecting me this way, but thankful for these reviews because I was really scared there for a bit! Took it 7 hours ago, hoping it wears off soon! I'm not coughing though, if there is an upside. I won't take it again though, not a good trade-off."

For Cough "I took Delsym once and didn't help cough, decided to try a second dose more than 12 hours later, still no help, but now have explosive diarrhea. (Not ideal when you have a bad cough!) Would not recommend."

For Cough "Took Delsym for the first time on 02/19. I felt high, family said I was childlike. No memory. Wasn't sure what caused it. The second time I took it was 09/19. After taking it, my family said I was acting really weird. No memory of it, but I acted drunk, and my daughter took a video to show me. I was crying because my vision was blurred and also not being able to get orange juice out of the cup. I was saying I want my mom and making things out of toilet paper. They said it was pitiful. Talking like a kid, my balance was off, kept feeling like liquid was coming out of my ear. Horrible head and muscle aches. I didn't get diarrhea like others but got dehydrated. Had sleep where you wake up thinking it had been hours but also had vivid dreams. Slept 12 hours. Didn't take the cough away. My head felt like someone was squeezing it and trying to pop my eyes out. Felt like I had been drinking last night, and I don't drink at all. I know it was the Delsym, and looking up the side effects, I fall under the overdose category. I didn't take the full dose."

"My son had chronic ear infections when he was little and continues to have them every time he gets a cold. He is now 30 years old and continues to use Delsym 12 Hour Cough Syrup to avoid an ear infection. He takes a dose at night and a dose in the morning at onset of a cold. As the cold begins to subside, he stops the dose in the morning and just takes it at night until the cold is completely gone. I've told a lot of people about it, and only one person has told me that it didn't work. I have taken Delsym myself, and neither of us have experienced feeling drugged or have had the explosive diarrhea that others on these reviews have spoken of. Everyone is different as to what they can tolerate. It thins the mucus so it can drain properly and not cause the infection. I'm no doctor but just figured it out on my own years ago when I was told that it thins the mucus. I had him try it, and he has been avoiding ear infections ever since. Beats antibiotics and surgeries."

For Cough "I had a very bad cold to the point of settling in my chest. I took Delsym 12 hour to help. I couldn't believe it really worked to keep my cough at bay, but I started to have severe side effects from it. I had dizziness like I was going to blackout, heart palpitations, SOB (shortness of breath), diarrhea, and vomiting at the same time (sitting on the toilet and holding a bucket at the same time wanting to pass out from the dehydration). Never again, I'll stick with Creomulsion."

For Cough "I took it for a constant, deep barking cough. I worked quickly and well, calming my cough and allowing me to get sleep. However, it makes me incredibly drowsy - way worse than Unisom. There was also a bit of dizziness. I did not have any gastrointestinal side effects. I will use it again but only at night since it knocks me out."

For Cough "Developed a cold that just wouldn't go away and that turned into a cough. Took Vicks, Mucinex, NyQuil, but nothing controlled the cough well. Decided to try Delsym, and while it did control the cough much better than the others, I woke up in the early hours of the morning with extreme diarrhea, awful, awful cramping, and sweating to death. I literally sat on the toilet for an hour dry heaving because the pain was so bad. It was terrible. For the next 24 hours, my stomach just hurt trying to recover. I only thought I had gotten minor food poisoning, but this morning when I had just liquid bowel movements again, I decided to search reviews since that's the only thing that has changed. I am definitely going to stop taking."

For Cough "Helped with the dry cough I was having for over 1 month. Robitussin didn't help at all, and as soon as I took Delsym, it helped me sleep through the night and no more dry cough. It actually loosened the mucus, and I could actually cough phlegm. So thankful for this OTC medicine!"

For Cough "I gave this to my 14-year-old son. When he went to bed, he was seeing colorful lights, dizziness, his whole body was shaking, he couldn't walk straight, his whole body was stiff, he couldn't open his jaw, he was tossing and turning all night and didn't sleep, and felt really lethargic."

For Cough "Last year, my daughter's pediatrician recommended this because she was diagnosed with the flu. Fast forward to this year and week, I bought it for my extreme cough and because I couldn't sleep from coughing so much. Well, I took the recommended dosage twice and noticed the medicine was making me worse! I have never coughed so much in my life. My body is sore from all the coughing. I obtained a stuffy then runny nose that I didn't have prior to the medicine. My taste and smell left, and I have severe diarrhea. I didn't take any more, and my cough is calming down, and I can smell and taste again. Not sure what's in this, but I highly recommend you steer clear of this cough syrup. I've never had this type of reaction to a cough syrup. Never again will I take this nor give it to my daughter. I would literally cough and sneeze so much at a time I'd get lightheaded and discombobulated. Buy and try at your own risk!"

For Cough "My mother and I both took 1 dosage of Delsym at night, and the next morning we both have been feeling dreadful. We both have been coughing for 2-3 weeks and felt like we were getting better until we took this medicine. I do NOT recommend this medicine for anyone! 12 hours after taking it, I'm feeling very sharp pains in my chest when I breathe and cough, also along with mild headaches."

For Cough "Both times that I have taken this medicine, it cured my cough completely, both times I woke up in the middle of the night around 3:30 am, and I felt like I was speeding on drugs. In the morning, I felt dizzy and horrible. This medicine is not worth it. The side effects last at least 24 hours."
