"I was prescribed cipro after the first antibiotic didn't completely work for a UTI. Stay away from this drug! Poison. Please Google what has happened to people who have taken this horrible drug that the FDA finally gave it a black box warning. I have pain in my hips, shoulders, and arms because of this drug."

Ciprofloxacin "I am on my 3rd day of taking ciprofloxacin, and it's working great. Although I do get intense headaches, I would rather that short term rather than have the constant feeling of needing to go to the toilet."

"Almost 3 years ago, I was given Cipro for a maybe infection after a stent was placed in my ureter. After 3 pills, I started feeling pulling in my calves. I stopped the Rx. Pulls, leg cramps, left side weakness in my arm and leg, terrible brain fog, confusion, abdominal pain, chest pain up the center, heart palpitations, suicidal thoughts, depression, itching, that some “side effects” still continue today! Almost 3 years later! This is a terrible drug family! Do not take any of them!"

Ciprofloxacin "Started taking for bladder infection, got to day 2 of taking the medication when it started giving me random sharp stomach pains (wasn't having any dairy products either) and caused me to have panic attacks where I felt extremely dizzy. I had to ask for another medication."

"Please be careful with this medicine if you are predisposed to mental health conditions - this made my anxiety significantly increase. I had the worst panic attack I’ve ever experienced after taking the second dosage and was in a constant state of anxiety for days after stopping (I stopped after 3 pills and switched meds). I suffer from health anxiety, and this medication worsened it. I appreciate they may work for some people but just wanted to warn those who suffer from anxiety to be aware."

"End result of two C-sections and a hysterectomy is susceptibility to bladder infections after drinking too much coffee, caffeine, or after sex. So I've tried many different remedies, one of which is taking Cipro. The antibiotic works to clear the infection, BUT the horrible yeast infections are unfathomable! I'd rather take more of another antibiotic than deal with the yeast infection, which lingers for weeks. Now I have to get an antifungal to clear up the itching, burning, and discharge associated with taking the Cipro. Ugh!"

"POISON.... Two days on this med and I thought I was going to die. Totally confused, chills, fever (which I didn't have before), extreme abdominal and flank pain. Sicker than when I started it for a UTI. Caused a gastritis flare-up and today I now have an upper respiratory infection...... This medicine is AWFUL. ALL PHARMS are killing us."

"This drug is very dangerous too many and should only be used when there are no other options. I took it several times for back-to-back UTIs. It caused tremors, insomnia, burning, tingling, numbness, and severe muscle twitching in my legs. These symptoms lasted for months!!!!"

"I have read some negative comments on here. I do have one really bad allergy to another specific drug. However, I can tolerate this drug quite well. I was admitted to the hospital in 2011 with a very severe bladder infection, and I was given this IV in the arm. Over the years, I have had it in tablet form from my GP and only suffered mild side effects. I think it is a good drug."

"Within 10 minutes, I'm dizzy and sleepy. I wake up 2 hours later, confused and slightly dizzy. My upper abdomen feels like I have an ulcer, and I'm extremely nauseous. I ate an apple and felt better. It's 3 am, and I can't sleep."

"Cipro for my bladder infection has worked very well for me. I have taken it twice so far with no major side effects (only burning sensation, foggy, etc.). It has worked when other antibiotics didn't and cleared the infections completely."

"I've had a couple of bladder infections. This is the first time I've taken Cipro. It did its job and got rid of the infection and relieved my symptoms pretty quickly. But the side effects made it so I couldn't wait to be done with the medicine. It made my knees ache, gave me terrible, terrible headaches, and made me extremely tired. Also, it was quite agitating not being able to take my vitamins or milk. I am grateful to have my bladder infection gone, but these side effects were not enjoyable."

"Earlier uses were no trouble and worked. The problem is that it depletes your system of magnesium and then your tendons just shred. The effect is cumulative, the more often you take it, the more likely it is to hurt you. Be very careful and only take it when there isn't an alternative. I have been suffering for three months from the damage it did, and it didn't cure the UTI."

"Have an acute UTI which comes on very, very quickly, so have to go to A & E for intravenous antibiotics. This is the 3rd infection in 3 months, but the hospital keeps prescribing Ciprofloxacin 500 mgs, fine for a short while, but the infection starts again, with lots of blood in my urine. I experience dizziness, nausea, and some pain. This time, along with the Cipro, I've been prescribed Naproxen. Have an appointment with a urologist soon and hoping he will prescribe something different and that works. My life is on hold at the moment and totally fed up."

"Took cipro for a UTI. On the 5th day, last pill, I fainted. Had to be ambulanced to the nearest hospital. I ended up with ischemic colitis. Never had any problem like that before. I think the ciprofloxacin caused permanent damage to my bowel. Will never take it again. Still having issues after 7 months."

"I have had a horrible and painful UTI/bladder infection for 8 days now. At the beginning, I was given another antibiotic for 3 days. It basically did nothing. I went back about 3 days ago and was given ciprofloxacin. I have been taking it for 3 days, and today is my last day. I have 1 more pill to go. Today is the 1st day that I feel a lot better. I have no urgency, no pain, but a slight tenderness. I'm praying and praying that this will work. I give a big thank you to ciprofloxacin."

"Cipro weakens tendons, usually the Achilles. I know because it caused my Achilles to rupture completely! Had surgery to repair the Achilles, spent 9 weeks in a cast, and did over a year of physical therapy because of Cipro. My foot is still not right 3 years later! I took it for something other than a bladder infection, but I would not recommend it."

"Only took one 500 mg Cipro tab, felt weird and drowsy, fell asleep. My gut instinct told me this drug isn't right. After reading of the devastating impact it has had on so many, I'm not taking any more! Thank goodness for your posts. My legs do feel a bit numb, that's after taking one tablet! Also, I felt sick briefly and had a hot flush in my heart and head. I will try cranberry juice :) Failing that, I will try another antibiotic not from this class."

"I'm taking Novo Cipro for a bladder/kidney infection. I have to take 1 pill, twice a day, 12 hours apart. I think it's working because when I went to the hospital and got diagnosed, I could barely walk. 5 days later, I'm fully upright again. I think I can thank the Cipro and my hot water bag for that! However, there are so many side effects. When I'm not keeling over from the pain from my bladder infection, the abdominal pains set in. I also have a terrible cramp and swelling in my left wrist and arm. The first 3-4 days on this medication, I was exhausted. I could not stay awake for the life of me. My back was hurting, my whole body felt sore. I had a fever, cold sweats at night, and migraines! Terrible migraines!"

"I am always very sick physically. I have interstitial cystitis, Meniere's disease, MCS, and more. I often get bladder infections, especially because my IC medicine is put in with a catheter regularly, and that makes the urethra more exposed to bacteria even though it's all sanitized. I've also been worse since I got my cystoscopy a few months back. However, I've always taken Cipro for bladder infections, and it always works 100%, and I have never experienced side effects of any kind. One would think, since this medicine is so horrible (according to new information), that a sick person would especially get side effects, but it has never happened, not even once. All the other antibiotics I tried for my bladder either didn't work or they made my stomach horrible, and I got yeast infections. (Note that I put one month in the time of medication because when I get infections, I take it for a week, and that's enough. However, I've been having infections on and off for 12 years)."

"Oh, where do I start! Well, I had the bladder infection for 3 days prior to going to the doctor. He prescribed me cipro, and the infection stayed the same. I gained many other side effects from this antibiotic to add to the wonderful pain and discomfort I was already in: nausea, diarrhea, headaches, and sharp stomach pains. Not impressed, for I paid a whopping amount of 30 dollars! Not satisfied!"

"I took Cipro for 5 days. It made me sick! I had nausea, body aches, chills, diarrhea, headaches, dizziness! My UTI is gone. I took the last pill 2 days ago, and the drug hasn't completely left my body yet! I'm not taking Cipro ever again!"

"On holiday in Florida (from Canada) and got UTI after many years with no problems. Cipro was prescribed, and although it has helped, the side effects are almost unbearable! My joints ache, I'm dizzy and nauseous, can't get to sleep, and had terrible abdominal and vaginal pain. Also, you can't have dairy or any vitamins 2 hours before to 4 hours after taking the meds. If this had been my family doctor instead of the doctor's PA at the walk-in clinic, I'd certainly give him an earful!! I'm only halfway through the course of meds (required a full 10 days) and will make note of this medicine so that I will NEVER take it again!"

"This medication ciprofloxacin ruined my life. I was prescribed it several times in 2004 and subsequently developed debilitating medical conditions and symptoms that have lasted for 16 years. This med should be taken off the market."
