"I was prescribed a 10-day course of Cipro, 2 pills a day for suspected UTI/prostatitis. Within hours of the first dose, the constant urge to urinate went away completely. Unfortunately, the symptoms came back within 12 hours of my last dose, so the Cipro was unable to clear the infection. That said, I experienced zero side effects while taking it. 40 y.o. Male."

"I will never take Cipro again. After the 3rd pill, I developed tingling in my hands, legs, and feet. I stopped taking it, but the symptoms still persist. I cannot sleep at night, and the tingling is constant. I've read this is called being 'floxied' and is more common than you might think. I am seeing a naturopathic doctor next week to try to reverse these awful side effects. Don't take Cipro!"

"DO NOT TAKE CIPRO! I'd give this garbage a negative 10 if I could! Read all the possible side effects, then ask yourself if you're willing to risk contracting many of them, no matter whether a doctor tells you the odds of those happening are slim, rare, etc. In my case, I was given this junk 4 different times within a year, around 60 pills total. I developed peripheral neuropathy shortly after that, which means that all of my extremities are becoming more and more numb, after the paresthesia (intense tingling and pain) stopped because I don't feel it anymore. I can still feel pressure in my head, hands, and feet, but when they are lightly touched or stroked? Nothing. I've seen 3 neurologists, two said it was simply coincidence. I fired them. The guy I still see said it was probably the Cipro that damaged me, but unfortunately, he can't directly correlate them, so he would only be a 'maybe' if I sue everyone responsible. But I'm still checking into it. Please say no to Cipro."

"I found out I had a UTI a week after I had my annual physical examination. I did not get my prescription until a week later, so I would assume I had the UTI for two weeks to a month. Doc prescribed me to take two 500 mg daily. The side effects suck. Night one, I did not sleep. I took a 3-hour nap and was up for 16 hours. Day two's morning dose had me nauseous. I just took my night dose, so hopefully the side effects won't be bad. My UTI symptoms went away within my first dosage (slight pressure, cloudy urine, sensitivity)."

"Cipro carries a black box warning related to potential neurological adverse effects. I was unaware of this the last time I took Cipro for a simple UTI. Within 3 hours of the first dose, I began experiencing tingling on my left side (I thought I was having a stroke!). I stopped the Cipro immediately. But the damage was done - I experienced occasional nerve tingling for 6 months. Luckily for me, the nerve damage was not permanent. It goes without saying I'll never take another drug in the fluoroquinolone family again."

"Do not take this drug unless you're near death, exposed to anthrax, or contracted the plague; seriously, that's what it's meant for. I took ONE pill of this and developed horrible popping in all joints, knee/leg/shoulder pain. The worst was the ER visit that followed 48 hours later, because I had rapid swelling in the eyes and light sensitivity with blurred vision. The scariest day of my life happened because of ONE pill of this poison. This awful medicine has a black box warning from the FDA and should not be given for basic infections."

"Am currently taking Cipro to deal with a UTI. Had one about a month ago, took Cipro, it seemed to go away, but now it's back with a vengeance. But I'm taking it with great reluctance. It used to be my ENT's go-to drug for sinus infections, which I would typically get twice a year (allergy induced). Then, about 4 years after first taking the drug, I woke up one morning and my right foot totally collapsed due to tendon rupture. Zero arch. At the time (1990), there weren't any tendon warnings with the drug and no one could explain how tendons could rupture overnight. Now my podiatrist attributes the event to the Cipro. I have to wear a Richie brace on that foot/ankle."

"I have been getting urinary tract infections since I was a small child, and the only antibiotic that has worked for me 100% of the time is Cipro. I have never had any side effects, but I am not sensitive to any medicines that I am aware of. I also use AZO Maximum Strength for the pain as an alternative to Pyridium, although if I have a prescription, Pyridium is actually cheaper (with insurance) than purchasing AZO."

"I took Cipro for five days and had to stop. I can say that it took the symptoms of the urinary tract infection away and made me feel better that way. On the other hand, it really aggravated some inflammatory conditions that I have had under control for a long period of time."

"I was scared to take Cipro. I really freak out when I have to take medication. But I did with the support of friends, and it works great for urinary tract infections with the first dose. I do have heartburn and gas, but I'm still taking it, and I will add a Zantac and Gas-X tomorrow."

"This was prescribed for my son who has cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair. He became swollen in his legs, ankles, and feet. Took for 48 hours and discontinued as the swelling progressed. Rushed to MD, had to take a different medicine (Macrobid). Thankfully, the swelling subsided in a few days. I have read many horror stories about the side effects of this medicine - some permanent! I do not recommend. Please keep in mind that a urine sample should always be cultured, not just tested with a dipstick, as the treatment really depends on the type of bacteria that's causing the UTI."

"I was given the pill 2 times per day at 500 mg. I am in my early 30s and feeling still overall blah on the 4th day of the meds. Feeling numb on my feet and nausea after taking the pill. I am on no other medications. Normally I rarely remember my dreams, but the last two nights I have had horrible nightmares."

"I was prescribed this medication for twice a day for 10 days, and on day 5, I had a tremor in my right hand, and right after, my right arm and leg went numb. It was horrifying to experience, especially because I am currently under getting a diagnosis if there is something wrong with my heart. So I didn't know if it was the pills or my heart until I started doing more research on the pill, and tremors were a serious side effect. Yes, I feel my UTI has gone away, but I would NOT take it again, and I am still currently taking them, but I'm going to talk with my doctor because I no longer want to use these drugs. Besides the tremor and numbness, I also became very tired, had headaches, muscle pains, and nausea. Truly terrible to feel this way. I do not recommend."

"I've taken Cipro before for urinary tract infections, but my body reacted badly this time. I had nausea, upset stomach, headaches, and caused vomiting. It did help with relieving urinary tract infection symptoms after 2 days. I finished my entire prescription, and I still have some side effects."

"Was given a 3-day treatment for a UTI, 250 mg every 12 hours. I had let the UTI get really bad before treatment, so my experience may not be representative of someone who catches it early. The horrendous symptoms were gone within a day, but I've just taken my last one and still feel irregular urgency and burning upon urination. Going back to the dr today."

"Took just one tablet, I was rushed to the hospital. I could not even pick my hand up. Sadly, someone gave me a second dose in the hospital the next day. Twenty minutes later, I went into... ANAPHYLAXIS SHOCK. I had eight doctors around my bed doing so many things. Thank God for those eight doctors acting so fast. Had I not been in the hospital that day, I would not be here now to tell my story. I was told it was a very close call even though I was in the hospital. This was a truly terrifying thing to happen. I am now so scared to take any antibiotic."

"Cipro caused me to have horrible panic attacks. I have been dealing with anxiety for the last 1.5 years, but had been doing so much better the last 5 months or so. I was prescribed it for a UTI, after my original antibiotic wouldn't be covered by insurance and I couldn't afford it. I will never take it again if I can help it at all. It has set me back so much, and even though I've finished it up over a week ago, I am dealing with worsened anxiety still. I know it was the medication. I haven't been that bad since I started having trouble to begin with. It was awful. I've also had a lot of stomach issues since and can't help but wonder if it was the medication. I think the stuff is like poison for some people!!"

"While Cipro may clear up my UTI, it triggered my seizure potential and lowered my seizure threshold. It also can interfere with seizure meds, which isn't cool for me, as it can cause seizures in people with previous head trauma too. Lastly, if also taken with NSAIDs like ibuprofen or aspirin, it can raise risk. Use extreme caution if I have a history of seizures!!!!"

"Dr. prescribed 500 mg twice a day for 5 days. The UTI was horrible, but I’ve never experienced such horrible side effects from an antibiotic. Nausea was debilitating, I was fighting to keep from vomiting. Couldn’t drive because it had my head swirling. Headaches too! I stuck with it because the UTI scared me, but after just taking the last dose, I’m still certain my UTI is lingering. Maybe I’m imagining this, but my thinking and moods seem to have been dark. I regret taking this drug."

"Prescribed 500 mg twice a day for UTI. By night four, had the most amazing aches in my left leg from hip through knee particularly. Halfway through the (sleepless, since it interacts with my usual sleep remedy) night, it switched legs. A relief in that I didn't have to worry that I was suddenly developing an orthopedic condition. Day and night five just as bad. Being careful with exercise so as not to harm a tendon. Something is going on. It's cured the UTI, so I will stick it out for the five days. Hope these aches go away after. Taking Neurontin and a bedtime hydrocodone helps, but that makes me useless! However, a urine culture said my infection was ONLY sensitive to Cipro, so ..."

"Have taken Cipro before for a UTI with no problems; and immediate relief. This time after 2 days of 500 mg twice a day, right calf muscle cramping horribly along with tingling and numbness on the bottom of both feet. Very lethargic, but UTI is better. Will cut in half and try 250 mg three times a day."

"Search up Quinolone Toxicity on the internet before taking this potent drug. I had repeated courses for UTI/Kidney infections from 1993 to 2008. I believe this drug has ruined my life. I have ME/CFS, anxiety/depression, Achilles tendinitis of both heels, persistent severe dermatitis, to name just a few. If I had been made aware of the possibility of serious and lifelong side effects, I would never have agreed to take this poison. I went from being an energetic sporty person who worked 2 jobs simultaneously because I liked being busy and social, and now to someone who hasn't been able to work since 2002. Don't take ANY of the Quinolone Antibiotics unless it's literally a matter of life or death and you have no other options."

"I'll give it a few stars because it made my UTI symptoms better. However, it did not clear up the infection! I just finished up the bottle after taking it twice a day for ten days. Yet, two days later, I am feeling the terrible symptoms all over again, like nothing has changed. I will be going back to the doctor tomorrow for a stronger medication."

"I went to the ER last night because of a pulled back muscle that occurred 2 weeks ago. The pain (lower back) was just unbearable! And when the pain also moved up to my kidney, I thought, 'Okay, something is seriously wrong here.' Turns out I had a pretty bad UTI that I didn't know about (NONE of the usual symptoms, pee flow regular, no spotting, etc.). 1st time ever being prescribed Cipro, 500 mg 2x a day. Took 1st dose immediately after filling my script (10 pm), second one 12 hrs later (10 am). By morning, I had severe dry mouth after taking the 2nd dose, so I started drinking a Gatorade and immediately started vomiting. My kidney hurts more than it did before going to the ER, headache since last night, and I'm only on day 1 :("
