For Bronchitis "One of the best antibiotics for me... I was amazed at how well it worked. Downside: taste is horrible, but that's probably why it's so good. My side effects were plentiful, but the risks outweighed the bad... My biggest side effect was nausea and vomiting, there were lots of moments I had to run to a bathroom or get out of a moving vehicle.... With all that, I'm still grateful. I was sicker than ever before. I slept last night fully for the first time in almost 3 weeks... If, like me, one of your symptoms is no appetite, either force-feed yourself or find an alternative with your doctor. I'm sure being able to eat would've helped ease my stomach. Feel better. Had some dizziness and vaginitis."

For Strep Throat "I was prescribed cefuroxime to treat strep and a UTI. Throat felt better within a day, UTI took like 3-4 days for all symptoms to go away. The pill for this is big, though, and it’s hard to swallow, and if you don’t swallow it in the first gulp, it is legit the absolute worst taste in your mouth I’ve ever experienced. It legit made me throw up from the taste."

For Surgical Prophylaxis "After my piles surgery, the doctor prescribed me cefuroxime axetil 500 mg x 2 a day. After my first tablet itself, I felt weak, body pain, an unconscious mind, and a chilling temperature. It was a really bad experience. Do not take if you're not in good condition to suffer the consequences."

For Bacterial Infection "On day 7 of taking cefuroxime, a 10-day course for bacterial upper respiratory infection. Taking it along with Mucus DM Extended Release and Flonase. Fever stopped immediately on day one, but everything else got way worse. Insanely sore throat and unstoppable mucus production make it impossible to drink or eat. It is a nightmare swallowing the pills down. I don't want to finish out, but I will per doctor's orders, but what a waste of precious time and valuable resources. Oh, and the fever's back on day 7."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "On the 2nd day of taking it, I woke up in the morning, and my left ankle felt like I got arthritis. My left foot is swollen, can't even stand on my left foot. Today is the 3rd day, and I'm thinking of stopping it if my left foot gets worse."

For Pneumonia "I was diagnosed with pneumonia 7 days ago, the doctor prescribed me this. Everything seems to be okay until my day 6, when I started experiencing severe abdominal pain. I could walk straight. Just 3 more days left, and I'm done with it."

For Middle Ear Infections "I was given this for an ear infection in both my ears, and I must be in the minority here looking at all the reviews, but I had an awful experience. The first thing that happened was right after I took them, I had awful burps reminiscent of the way a brand new plastic tote box smells, truly like acidic plastic was all I could think to describe it. Then after a few doses, I started becoming really nauseous, like painful nausea. I got very lightheaded and literally just leaned up against my bed from the floor and either passed out like that or whimpered like a baby most of last night. I’m allergic to penicillin, vancomycin, and had a reaction to IV Levaquin, but always did well with Keflex and Cipro, so we thought I’d be fine. I’m scared to finish the course of antibiotics honestly, I guess I just had a bad reaction. But what I did take helped my ear infection, so I’m still giving it some stars for effect."

For Bronchitis "I have chronic bronchitis and get it once a year. I've taken antibiotics for it for decades. This is the only one I can take that doesn't make my tinnitus worse. Cipro is the one that gave me tinnitus, and I have successfully used Bactrim in the past, but now even that one makes the tinnitus louder. This one has zero side effects for me. It's the only one I can use, and it works great for both bronchitis and sinusitis, which I also get frequently. I always get a 14-day supply of 500 mg twice a day. I've found that for me, sometimes only 7 or 10 days is not long enough."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "LUPIN-manufactured cefuroxime 250 mg tablets are the worst tasting tablet! Do not have your pharmacy fill the script if it is manufactured by LUPIN. When you place the tablet in your mouth (not your tongue), it leaves a bitter aftertaste. It is terrible. I started vomiting."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "Pharyngitis... tried to manage a Klebsiella oxytoca infection naturally for four weeks, clove and cinnamon tea, propolis, thyme, vitamin D, gargling salt, exhausted, swollen throat glands. I'm usually very active and a healthy eater. I avoid antibiotics and pharmaceuticals generally. Finally went for cefuroxime as Zinnat, 500 mg 2x daily. Took five days to feel better and by the seventh I'm OK. Weak from staying in for so many weeks. No side effects other than diarrhea. And I'm sensitive. Now Lactobacillus acidophilus is helping replenish. Grateful to be well again. It was very worrisome."

For Sinusitis "I have had two prescriptions of cefuroxime prescribed for me. Once after sinus surgery in April. And then again in June. I am still fighting some sort of infection. After being sick for 2 years prior to surgery, I now feel that it's fungal! Seeking more help."

For Sinusitis "Have been having a bad sinus infection where my nose hurt so bad I couldn’t sleep. Went to the doctor, who put me on Cefuroxime 500 mg twice a day. I noticed after taking a one-day dose I was feeling sick to my stomach and felt tired in my legs, arms, and whole body. I called the doctor to tell her, and she said to push through it. My body is fighting the infection. So I lay on my sofa and pray that I will feel better soon. This is day 2, and I still feel the same. Taking cough syrup for nausea that helps me sleep. I’ve been reading all comments, and it looks like most say the 3rd day you feel good, here’s hoping that’s true."

For Bladder Infection "Excellent tablet, 5-day course for bladder infection. No more lower pain in front and no more smell in urine. No side effects except a bad taste in mouth when taking it. 500 mg x 2 a day. Feel better after one day of taking it. Take yogurt with your breakfast, 3 tablespoons."

For Bronchitis "I get bronchitis every year and so I can see it coming a mile away. I have routinely been prescribed a Z-Pack, which clears me up on Day 3 of 5, if not earlier. For some reason, this time, a different doctor from the same practice prescribed cefuroxime axetil 250 mg x2 daily for 10 days. I went backwards before forwards, it took several days to clear me (even though I got it treated early as usual), and left me lethargic...more so than the shortness of breath itself. Maybe the doctor was concerned that the Z-Packs would start to lose effect for me, but I will take that chance in the future."

Cefuroxime for Sinusitis "I was in urgent care 4 days ago and diagnosed with a sinus infection. I was given Ceftin 500 mg tablets to take 2 times a day. I'm going to take one after dinner tonight, and I honestly can say this stuff is not working for me at all. I'm okay for about 3 hours after taking it with breakfast, then my nose starts running, my head stuffs up, I get very cold and I have to go to bed propped up on 3 pillows trying to breathe. When I get up, my nose starts running again and my head gets all stuffed up again and doesn't clear up until about 8:30 p.m. If I am like this tomorrow, I will be calling my primary care doctor about getting put on something else."

For Bronchitis "I took this medicine at night, and when I got up in the morning, my lips had a white film on them, and I pulled it off. I looked in the mirror, and there was this white film on and inside my mouth. There was a thick coating on my tongue that resembled spongy-like material. I stopped taking the medicine."

For Surgical Prophylaxis "After a minor cut in the head area, I was given cefuroxime. Two days later, I started with a flu that affected my lungs and throat, and it lasted more than four weeks. I had taken the flu shot three months prior to this event. Now, reading the article from PNAS, it seems like the protection for the flu virus went away. I hadn't had a bad cold for about ten years, ever since I protected myself with the flu shot."
