Cefuroxime for Bladder Infection "I took cefuroxime, a high dose for a bacterial bladder infection. I got a massive side effect of setting my butt on fire. It still burns, and I had to take an antifungal to stop it, which just made it burn less. I'm still using a steroid powder. But I still burn, and I'm in a wheelchair."

Cefuroxime for Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "It quickly helped get rid of the infection in my throat, but it is very hard to take. The taste of the pill is horrible and sticks around for a long time in the back of your throat. I used flavored yogurt to help counteract the flavor after I swallowed the pill. It also starts dissolving quickly, so it tended to get stuck in my throat."

For Pneumonia "My husband was prescribed this cefuroxime along with a Z-pack for pneumonia. It's been 4 days, and he's completely recovered. He still has 1 dose of azithromycin and 3 and a half days of cefuroxime axetil to complete the course. One or both of these drugs worked miracles for him, with absolutely no side effects. Also, his bowel movements are normal. Everyone's tolerance is different. I would rate both drugs as a 10."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I came down with a UTI on 4/1/17. My primary care provider couldn't get me in, so I ended up going to urgent care on 4/6/17, as I couldn't stand to suffer any longer. (I have compromised kidneys, so nearly every time I get a UTI, it develops into a kidney infection.) The urgent care doctor prescribed me cefuroxime. I was surprised when I picked it up from the pharmacy because it wasn't the same antibiotic that I normally get prescribed for my UTI/kidney infections. Today is 4/10/17, and I still feel absolutely awful. It seems to be having no effect. I'm used to feeling better relatively quickly with the other antibiotic that I'm normally prescribed. I guess I'll be heading back to the doctor this week!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I have taken cefuroxime axetil 500 mg twice daily for 7 days. It works well and has no side effects. After I took the pills in just a few days, the pain disappeared and the infection came out clean. It's significantly helpful and has no symptoms, though. I recommend it. After that, I took another antibiotic medication named nitrofurantoin MCR 100 mg, taking it twice daily for three days and then taking 1 pill for 3 days. It seldom works sometimes, while I drank a lot of water, but the infection came back after I took all the medicine the next few days later, probably 5-6 days."

Cefuroxime for Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "Very gentle antibiotic for me. With every other kind I've taken, on the first dose, I expect it to feel like it 'hit bottom' in my stomach. This one did not make my stomach upset one bit. A surprise. Had a cold for 1.5 weeks and it came back a few days later (after some sinus pains). Sinuses opened up and a torrent of mucus poured down my throat, causing laryngitis. Was getting worse, so I decided to suck it up and take these. I was VERY apprehensive at first because I think antibiotics should be a last resort. I have a trip abroad coming up, so no time to be sick. Started working the day I took it. It is now day 4 on them and my voice came back. I've been sipping kefir and taking a probiotic between doses. I don't know if this will cause a yeast infection, but I still might take a fluconazole after my prescription is finished if I feel ANY hint of discomfort. So far, so good though. Penicillins usually give me instant vaginal yeast infections! Cleared my cystic acne too!"

For Sinusitis "Have gotten excellent results with this med. It takes three days to kick in, but it has killed a sinus infection in both 2015 and 2016. I have allergies, so I have more problems than most in getting the infection to go completely away. I have not had the digestive issues nor any other side effects that I have with other meds like Z-Pack (I still take yogurt daily to keep good bacteria in the digestive tract). It seems to not have the issue with antibiotic resistance that Z-Pack and some of the things more commonly prescribed can cause."

For Sinusitis "I have a terrible taste/smell...like something electrical. The doctor said I have a sinus infection. This medicine has had no effect at all. (Positive or negative). I just finished one week of 2-250 mg tablets daily. The doctor said to refill after a week if I don't see any results."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Treatment began in the ER following blood work and a CT scan. Diverticulitis was ruled out and a UTI diagnosed. Sepsis confirmed through blood work. I was administered cefuroxime intravenously and then discharged with cefuroxime axetil, 500 mg, twice a day for five days. This antibiotic treatment proved very effective for me. Within 12 hours, the severe chills I had been experiencing subsided. Within 24 hours, I experienced better urinary flow, though still a very weak stream, and less pain. After 48 hours, I felt almost normal. I was urinating much better and with much less pain. The only side effects I experienced were a mild headache and some slight mental confusion."

For Pneumonia "Doxycycline helped with a severe case of pneumonia but was not knocking it out, and fever continued. My doc added cefuroxime, and there was a change for the better right away. I am allergic to aspirin, ibuprofen, sulfas, Levaquin, amoxicillin, and the penicillins, but I had no problems with either of these meds as long as I at least ate a slice of bread with them, and the cocktail cured me!"

For Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "I had tonsillitis, sinus, and ear infections. After being sick for a week, I could barely swallow or turn my head due to throat pain. The doctor prescribed Cefuroxime 500 mg twice/day for 10 days. I was nervous about all the side effects listed because I usually get them all, however, I had no side effects except for mild itching from this medication. My throat and ears started feeling better after a few days, and the headache was much improved by 5 days. I made sure to eat just before taking the pill and always took it with milk. I have several autoimmune diseases and take a probiotic daily. Maybe these things helped me not to have the side effects. I would definitely take this again if necessary."

For Sinusitis "I've been suffering from acute sinusitis for 13 days now. The doctor gave me antibiotics to nip it in the bud before it becomes chronic. I'm on my 6th day of cefuroxime axetil (500 mg 2 x per day), and I feel no better. In fact, my condition continues to worsen. There is more greenish-yellow mucus, I'm beginning to cough up mucus, and sinus headaches are starting. My doctor refuses to change the antibiotic because he says it can take anywhere from 1 day to over a week to work. I have to give it 3-4 more days. Truly disappointed with this medication."

For Pneumonia "My family doctor prescribed Auro-Cefuroxime 500 mg 2x a day for 10 days. I've never gotten sick taking antibiotics, but the first pill I took made me vomit 4 hours later. I ate a decent meal when I took it, too. I often have acid reflux, though, this made it 10x worse. Pneumonia in both lungs and an ear infection. I'm going to try one more in the morning and see how it goes. I'm very sick as it is, I can't be sick to my stomach for 10 days."

For Bronchitis "I've taken this twice - last year I had a sinus infection that spread to my eyes and ears as well as a respiratory infection. After multiple visits to urgent care, I was given a Z-pack, which did nothing, and the infection continued to worsen. After 5 weeks of suffering, I was given Ceftin 250, and I felt better in 2 days. It was like a miracle! I wanted to kiss the doctor's feet! This season I caught a cold which went to my chest — resulting in bronchitis. After two weeks, I caved and went to the doc who prescribed Ceftin 500. After two doses, I feel I'm on the mend. This stuff is truly a miracle drug for me. I get a yeast infection with every antibiotic, but if I take a probiotic and stay ahead of it, I'm fine. Take this drug with food. Probiotic or yogurt a few hours after each dose is a good idea. I've not had any adverse side effects, though I've heard this drug can be harder for the elderly to tolerate. I'm 35/F, so fairly young and generally very healthy."

For Sinusitis "Everyone is different and responds differently to each medication. This one, cefuroxime, worked wonderfully for me, whereas Z-Pak and Augmentin did nothing. I personally have had no side effects from this. So, regarding the negative comments about this, I have none. To each his own for their body."

For Pneumonia "After 1 day, I noticed my lips burning, thought it was just chapped lips, bought a tube of lip balm. On day 2, I noticed tiny blisters forming on my bottom lip, and by the end of the day, my bottom lip was beginning to swell. I quit using the lip balm, but my lips continue to swell and burn. I developed a terribly deep but empty cough, which I did not have before starting this prescription. This cough occurs while at rest, not while talking, eating, or exercising. Also, soaking night sweats, mainly from my head. I did not read the side effects on the prescription."

For Sinusitis "Into my 5th day... Pain relieved after two full days, but still have infection, mucus still yellow/green, and still feel like crap, although better. No side effects from the med, which is good, but would have expected to feel much better by now. Four more days to go on the med."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "Prescribed Ceftin. Filled with generic brand cefuroxime. Third time now. First time I ever was prescribed this was 500 mg 2 x a day for 7 days. No side effects. Apparently can take up to 4000 mg per day of this. Found it slow working but fairly effective, but only cleared up ailment 2/3. Second time having it 500mg 2x a day for 10 days. Still slow working and effective. Outcome, I felt pretty good for a few days. 10 days still didn't clear it up. Meanwhile, had blood work and CAT scan and urine culture. White blood cell count 11,700, definitely an infection. Back to doctor for these results and as still sick. Prescribed 21 days. I sure hope it works. This was after a 21-day course of Clavulin 2x875mg and isn't really strong enough, 3x875 works much better and highly effective. I have been on a rollercoaster ride of illness for 6 years, basically all the same thing. Started off with UTIs caused by kidney stone issues, then being under-medicated both by hospital ER and doctor."

For Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "I have pharyngitis. Compared to co-amoxiclav, this cefuroxime is much better. On the 1st day of the medicine, I feel a little better. On the 4th day, I feel like I'm fully healed. I won't stop until I am finished. On the 7th day, I was given 500mg 2x a day for 7 days."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I have taken Ceftin several times for sinus infections, and it has worked well with minimal side effects. I went to urgent care with a UTI, and she put me on Macrobid, which I had never taken before (first UTI), and it seemed to help alleviate symptoms pretty quickly, but I felt worse physically. My PCP switched me to Ceftin 250 mg 2x a day for 10 days. It didn’t seem to work as quickly, but it did work, and I had no side effects, but I know I tolerate this drug very well. All antibiotics cause stomach upset, so take a good quality probiotic, Solaray urgent care probiotic, and Florastor keep my stomach pretty normal while on antibiotics."

Cefuroxime for Bacterial Infection "Daughter is 16 months old and was prescribed this garbage from the ER doc for an ear and chest infection. She was on this for 3 days and had the worst experience ever with stomach pain, vomit, diarrhea galore, and would not move from wife's lap, crying. We stopped this med and saw a night and day difference within 16 hours. Unbelievable."

For Skin and Structure Infection "Eight weeks later, after taking this drug, I'm still recovering from side effects. It caused chills, fever, swollen lymph glands, bloated stomach, and gas. All symptoms have gone away except bloated stomach and gas. I've never had any stomach issues in my life, and now it's non-stop discomfort. I wouldn't recommend anyone to take this medication."

I am on day five, but I may have to stop before the ten days. Feels like gallbladder problems, but I did not have these symptoms before taking this medication."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I had the worst case of tonsillitis (pain and swelling had me in tears), cough, green mucus, red eyes, and a terrible flu and upper respiratory tract infection with cough. I had been to the ER several times to no avail because they kept saying it was viral. I went to the ER a third time, and the doctor that time prescribed me this medication that saved me. Penicillin did nothing for me, but this medicine worked. Bad taste and diarrhea were my side effects for 7 days."
