Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) "The worst choice of medication to treat a cold. I had a cold return after 6/7 wks just to be given the this same medication again. My cough is worse and the headache from the pressure is a nightmare. Constant coughing at night. This is day 3 of the second go round with this cold and I'm not taking it anymore. It does nothing for the sinus drainage and it just makes the cough worse not better. Will not make another apt for a different antibiotic so over the counter here I come!!! This is a waste for a $200 visit."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) "I use these particular for a dry cough I get. They work best when I just have a nagging cough that is nonproductive and my coughing creates irritation that produces more coughing. They stop the cycle. If I have a bad cough from a cold with full lungs my dr gives me something different."

"I didn't have a runny nose or cough which I told my doctor,just a very sore throat, ear pain, fatigue and fever. He prescribed me the Benzonatate caps 100mg and as directed I took them and 3 days later still feel the same No different. The pills have started to make me cough but not bad. Sometimes after taking the pills I fall asleep and wake up because I can't breathe. I don't feel it's helped me at all."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) "I have had the Tessalon Perle prescribed for me twice now in the past 6 mos. Neither time has it worked for my cough. I have COPD, and get bronchitis at least twice a year. This by itself will NOT treat bronchitis, you need a antibiotic. In past I've had a Dr at Urgent Care prescribe a cough syrup with codeine in it because my cough (especially at night when laying down) was so bad I wasn't sleeping, and abdominal muscles ached from coughing so much. That was a God send, and is usually the only thing that helps with this type of cough. I have told my Dr to not waste time calling in script for the Perle anymore. It's a waste of money."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) "I had a bronchitis cough that left my entire body in pain. It seriously felt as though I had worked out and was dealing with residual body aches. When my doc realized the severity, he prescribed tessalon. Initially, it felt like my cough was getting worse, but successive doses definitely helped to quiet me. This was far more effective than any narcotic containing cough serum. It left me pretty sleepy, but I needed the rest anyway."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) "I was really sick for a week and went in to see my doctor for cough that was uncontrollable. He first prescribed amoxicillin. That did not help with my cough. Then I was prescribed Tessalon Perles and it seemed to work. I was having itchiness all over my body. Also welts. I then realized it was the Tessalon Perles that was doing it. I stopped taking them. Now I don't itch but still have a cough."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) "Was recommended to me by a nurse. Had pneumonia and had this persistent, annoying cough for 3 weeks after. Tessalon Perle worked like a charm within the first 4 hours. Definitely need to keep this on hand as a working Flight Attendant"

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) "About 14 years ago I had the flu/bronchitis and was prescribed tesslon pearles along with the Z-Pak it worked great. I had coughed so bad it felt like I was going into pulmonary distress it immediately helped but now in the last 2 years I have this nagging cough it seems to come with a real bad sinus infection both years I have been prescribed tesslon and it doesn't even help the coughs keep returning. Last week I have taken 3 pearles a day at 100mg each I am still coughing I have asked for THE SYRUP and was told NO or the docs would look at me like I was JUNKIE trying to get over I don't understand the docs if this stuff isn't working why are they writing the scripts I WANT SOME OF THAT SYRUP LOL that is the only thing that helps"

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) "Upper respiratory infection sent me to an urgent care center, where 100mg of Tessalon Perles was prescribed. This lowest dosage relaxed the lung muscles so I didn't suffer from the coughing spasms and while I still had to sleep sitting up I was more comfortable. Prescription was for 3xday but I only took it twice daily. Follow-up visit to my primary care doctor resulted in a prescription for 200mg twice daily and that dosage was too much for me. I had a scary episode resembling a heart attack and stopped the medication immediately. Heart pounding, chest muscles tightened front and back, profuse sweating, dizziness, one episode of vomiting. I consumed large quantities of water to flush the drug out of my system and will never take it again."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) "Have been prescribed tessalon perles several times for bronchitis and they've never once worked for me. I might as well eat a sugar cube. Sadly cough drops do a better job of suppressing my cough than tessalon perles and that's nothing to brag about. The previous poster who wants the syrup is right, that stuff is the only thing that really works."

Tessalon (benzonatate) "I just took a Tessaoln for the first time, even if it will let me get 3 hrs of sleep tonight at a time I will be very happy. Nothing else seems to he working and I have heard great reviews. I haven't coughed since I took one about a 1/2 hr ago, so goodnight."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) "I first was prescribed this in 1988. I was keeping the whole house awake from coughing due to bronchitis. , My mom an RN, said "that's it ! You're going to the doctor and getting Tesslon Perles". There's no words to describe the relief that it gave me, not to mention the rest of my family. I was 18 at the time. 30 years later it still works as well for me as it did when in 1988. I feel, for me, this pill is "magic". Its very unfortunate that some people don't have any relief with this. I guess it's a hit or miss thing. Well I'm scoring home runs still after all these years."

"I understand how some people say it doesn't work, because for me it took a few days. I, at times, throughout my life get sick with a cough that makes me nearly insane! Stick with it! By the second day I was experiencing very little coughing. It just seemed to just kick in and It's saved my sanity."

"Absolutely worthless. I went to a clinic on Thanksgiving day and was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection. The doctor prescribed this and my cough has gotten SIGNIFICANTLY worse. I'm completely irritated. I can't sleep, and I'm about to go to the drug store and just buy some damned cough syrup. I'm not surprised at all to see all the one-star reviews. Wish I could give it ZERO."

"This worked wonders for me. For 2 weeks, I used several OTC medicines for cough suppression and mucus build-up and couldn't sleep more than an hour at a time without coughing and having to spit out. After 1 day, my coughing subsided and I was able to sleep 3 hours. I still had a little mucus build-up. Hopefully, I will be able to get a full day of rest tonight. (No side effects)."

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) "I was given this prescription due to a 3 week long virus, excessive coughing-day and night. It does stop the cough but I was allergic to it. I thought my lip blew up from the spicy chicken wings the night before. I kept taking it. It poisoned my system. I had no idea why my virus was now nauseating my stomach and twice would vomit because of it. The side effects are obviously different on everyone! PLEASE read the labels and Medical staff-PLEASE tell your patients that things can happen and they need to react to EVERY reaction that is NOT normal or feels good. My lip blew up. It looked like botox. I drank all kinds of cold beverages to get the swelling down. I had NO idea the path it would take was to make me sicker."

"Caused severe nasal congestion that made my cold symptoms much worse. My sinuses are now extremely swollen, I have fever and chills now, and earaches. The congestion and drainage have increased. My coughing to top that off!"

Tessalon Perles (benzonatate) "Whenever I have a cough related to an upper respiratory infection, I ask my doctor for Tessalon perles. Over the years my family has had great success with this drug. It reduces coughing fairly fast for a pill and lasts much longer than OTC cough medicines. None of us has experienced any side-effect when taking it."

"I've been taking this for 5 days and it hasn't help to reduce or suppress my cough at all. Was diagnosed with bronchitis and this did help to stop the chest pain for all the coughing but I'm still miserable. No side effects from this medicine."

"I would like to say this. I was on lisinopril prior to taking this with the Lisinopril cause the coughing episodes that I have had for last 5 Years. As anybody experience is different things besides just not working for you what I have found my experience was very scary as I felt this medication almost go through my body I know that sounds kind of strange but once it hit my shoulders and my neck and got into my head my head felt like I was in a bubble underwater something I just kept getting this pounding noise in my ear I can feel my blood pressure starting to rise my heart was palpitating like it was coming out of my chest. I did not have a blood pressure cuff so I was unable to know what my readings were. I do know I am diabetic and I will tell you that my checking your blood my sugar is shot up to 325 just 10 minutes after taking this pill."

"Why is it that when I don’t take it I cough once in a blue moon and once I do I just can’t stop coughing at all I don’t recommend it’s just making everything worse and makes me feel like my throat is swelling up more then before ."

"Benzonatate is not for every cough. Mainly if you suffer from a respiratory infection it will do it's job. Regarding a cold, forget it. It could even make your cough worse. Many have different effects from it like any other medicine. Benzonatate goes into effect immediately. So if your taking it and see a decrease in your cough with in 15-20 min your on the right track."

"I was prescribed Benzonanate 200mg three times a day for cough after testing negative for COVID. I got my prescription in the evening so I took it immediately, as prescribed, hoping that the cough will improve overnight so that I could at least sleep. Unfortunately, I coughed all night and throughout the following day. It didn't make me sleepy, and the cough became worse. I bought over the counter Robitussin and seem to help better. I wish doctors would see the reviews on this medication and hopefully get a better option."

"I have been sick over a week, with a cold and cough. I got this benzonatate cpough medicine on Monday and today is Thursday and I’m coughing more than ever. I haven't slept in days, why do doctors do this? Don’t they want us to feel better? Today is Thanksgiving and I can’t even go to my brothers for dinner. I will be home alone, thanks benzonatate ;-("

I take it only when I get an uncontrollable dry heaving gagging sore ribs diaphragm forget about sleeping kind of cough if I have an URI, occurs about once every several years. If you're experiencing side effects try taking lowest dose possible and make sure you're hydrated."
