Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "Worked perfectly for the first week (10 mg), my mind was completely clear, and I felt almost no anxiety whatsoever. Second week (20 mg), started feeling suicidal, worst I've ever felt in my entire life. Parents thought it was out of character, I couldn't stop crying-worst emotional pain I've ever felt (I've never felt like that before). Was convinced it wasn't the medication, but felt better as soon as I stopped taking it. If you're feeling this way while being on it, it's probably the medication... I was convinced that it wasn't until I started seeing that a couple of other people had similar reactions. 19/female"

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "This drug was prescribed to me after Ritalin didn't work well. This medication helped my ADHD, but the side effects were unbearable: cotton mouth, irritability, anxiety, panic attacks. It seemed like the cons outweighed the pros. Much more successful than Ritalin, but not enough. My doctor decided to try Vyvanse, a new version of Adderall with fewer side effects and better outcomes for treatment, plus no crash after dinner."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "I'm 16 and not diagnosed with ADD, but have struggled my entire life in school and am constantly failing. I have trouble paying attention, staying focused, and devoting time towards school and homework. Starting around last year, I would come home from school every day very tired and go to sleep till 7 or 8 pm. I got prescribed Adderall this year, and it's made a drastic improvement. I have all A's and B's now. But the downfalls are I talk a lot (no, I'm not on it right now), and sometimes I focus but on pointless things, and after it wears off, I get irritable, anxious, and emotional. I wish it lasted longer also. The medicine has kind of taken a slight turn on me and I am acting different, and my parents have noticed a change in me."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "When I was diagnosed with ADHD in the 3rd grade, they put me on Adderall, and then I became a person I was not. I had social anxiety but got exceptionally good grades in school where others failed. Adderall changes your personality and was the worst 12 years of my life. I had no friends because engaging in conversation was nearly impossible. It traps your thoughts in a prison of your mind and suppresses any creativity."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "When I first started taking it, it helped me immensely with my ADHD. Pretty quickly, however, it stopped working. For one thing, it gives me crazy mood swings. It really amps me up at first, and I get super euphoric and happy for two hours, and then I feel awful and anxious and depressed. It actually potentiates my ADHD symptoms. It makes me extremely thirsty all the time, so I keep having to leave class to go use the bathroom or fill up my water bottle. Adderall makes it harder for me to appreciate the beauty of nature. I feel less in touch with my emotions when I take it. I understand that Adderall helps people a lot of the time, so it's worth a shot. But it didn't help me at all. In fact, it probably made things worse."

For ADHD "ALVOGEN INC has got me all messed up. I've taken ADHD meds since 1st grade, and I'm 32 now, so I'm very confident in my ability to distinguish between generics that work and don't and why. For the past 4 years, I've used the same CVS location to fill my Adderall tab, 30 mg generic. The past two times, though, I received a pill that looked different. Thinking, okay, whatever, this happens from time to time, it is just a different manufacturer, no big deal. I was wrong. I have had insanely high blood pressure increases, trouble sleeping, hardly any focus, SEVERE anxiety, like where I feel like I can't breathe suddenly, especially when I try to sleep, shaky hands, VERY noticeable heart palpitations, diarrhea, headaches, and weird emotional ups and downs. I've been vegan for 3 months now. At first, I was seeing a steady decrease in blood pressure, but as soon as I started taking this new generic, I'm topping out at 161/111 at the doctor a few days ago, which is just absolutely bonkers and terrifying."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "This medicine initially seemed to work very well for me with improved concentration, but after taking it for only 6 months, I discontinued it due to anxiety levels being through the roof, to the point where I couldn’t function. This was enhanced during social interactions, which is ironic because I know many people say they experience an increased desire for social activities. A month after stopping the medicine, I started experiencing psychotic symptoms, which have not subsided. I do not suggest this medicine."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "When I began taking Adderall in my early 20s, from dose one I could say I feel 'normal' for the first time in my life since I was a young boy. I was happy, and life had meaning and a reason. It allowed me to become productive, and I loved this new feeling of well-being in both mind and body. It came after a decade of severe depression, anxiety, and panic states, and a multitude of psych issues, and I was like a person on the outside but inside a disease of agonizing mental anguish, and physically I hurt from severe pain but had no physical evidence that I was like a 20-year-old young man who was only alive because I would not die. A tablet of Adderall changed my life, and it is my key to a life worth living."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "Switched to this because Vyvanse 70 mg was wearing off too soon (I take my meds around 6 am and it would wear off by 1-2 pm). It's been about 2 weeks now, and I'm depressed, grouchy, and accomplish nothing in the morning until about 10 am when I am almost overly focused. I feel moody, more overwhelmed than normal, and it does not have the calming effect on me like Vyvanse did. I'm going back to Vyvanse for sure and going to ask about an afternoon pill to get me through those last couple of hours of work."

For Fatigue "I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about a year ago, but the onset of symptoms began years ago (in particular, the chronic fatigue). Before I even saw a doctor, the fatigue got so bad that all I was doing was working and sleeping. But it must have been a year and a half ago that the most intense fatigue I’d ever experienced began. When it hits me, it’s hard to keep my vision from blurring or doubling. The exhaustion is so bad it’s actually painful! And it began happening more and more. Just about 3 or 4 months ago, the doctor prescribed me this medication. First a very low dose, but then higher until it was right. I only take it if I get the painful fatigue that causes blurred vision and if I am working. I don’t like the after-effect (anxiety, irritability, headache), but it definitely helps me get through those episodes of intense fatigue!"

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "I tried Adderall first at age 17 (15 mg a day). It helped a couple of hours after I took it, but about 3 hours later, I'd get extremely depressed and have depressing thoughts, then a couple of hours later, it'd just go away. This happened every time, and I went off it shortly after. At 19, I tried it again at 20 mg a day. Same good feelings for about 3 hours, and then a crash. However, this time, the bad feelings weren't as intense, and I didn't have depressing thoughts. I did experience more anxiety, though, and the depression was still bad enough for me to dread taking the meds. I'm trying Focalin now, but I've only taken it once, so I can't compare them yet."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "I’m a 21-year-old female. Adderall helped me focus, be on time, stay organized. However, as time passed, I noticed the negative impact. I had weight loss, irritability, my anxiety was worse, dry skin, dry mouth, and was not feeling like myself. I developed insomnia too. This was only on 20 mg a day. I took it as prescribed. The worst part was when I tried to quit taking it after I was switched to Vyvanse, which I felt even worse on. I ended up in the hospital having a panic attack the first time I tried to stop taking it. The second time I tried to quit, I had even more withdrawal symptoms: paranoia, panic attacks, vomiting. Stimulants are not worth it."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "Great medication. I was doing tasks again and talking to people again. The only downside is I want something more 24 hours. The instant release tabs had peaks, and after the peaks, I would have massive anxiety, and the same was with the extended release. It's a great medicine, but not for me."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "Was diagnosed with ADHD at 18 years old. I was prescribed and am taking Adderall 20 mg XR. This drug makes me feel like an emotionless zombie at times. My anxiety is fluctuating a lot, and my mood is constantly changing. I like to go out late sometimes, but when it wears off, I don’t have any energy to do so. Friends and family have become increasingly less important, it seems. I have minor scoliosis, and it makes my back pain a lot worse at times. This drug definitely allows me to focus and get ahead. At the end of the day, I don’t know if it’s worth it though. Might need a lower dose."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "Worst side effects ever. I switched to Mydayis 37.5 mgs once a day after several years of taking Adderall XR 30 mgs twice a day. The first week, I felt disoriented, and every time I went to bed, all my muscles felt VERY sore, especially my legs. It felt like I had run 20 miles, and every time I moved, the soreness woke me up. Then, one night when trying to fall asleep, I heard voices, it was the sound of many people talking, like I was at a very crowded restaurant. After that, I stopped taking this medication for my own safety. I’ve never had side effects with Adderall other than feeling some anxiety when I forget to eat."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "I was put on Ritalin when I was 6. I did not like it. I took myself off of it when I was 14. My grades plummeted, I developed depression, and then anxiety. I continued to become lethargic and relied heavily on caffeine. I am now 25. I began to take Adderall recently due to severe trouble concentrating at work, thinking it may help me keep my job. Now that my body seems to be used to the medication, I can hardly tell I'm on it. I have noticed improved memory, focus, and concentration. I did have some very adverse side effects accidentally combining with caffeine. I've found now that my body has adjusted I have no side effects, and my concentration remains improved, and, bonus, no depression. I do worry about cessation."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "I was diagnosed with ADHD 6 years ago by my family physician. She put me on Effexor, which seemed to help at first, but over the next year, the side effects were not worth the results. Another doctor recently prescribed Adderall, and when that worked well, he gave Adderall XR. I am so much more centered, can concentrate, and my quality of life is so much better. I hate that it is thought of as a 'street drug,' and I hate that the price is so high. The generic did nothing for me except to make me agitated/jittery for a few hours, then crashed and had a headache."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "Adderall seemed to really help me at first. After about six months, though, I ran into problems. I started to feel nervous, had sleeping issues, loose stool, sweaty pits, and ultimately gained a dependency where I craved for me to always be on it and feared the comedown. The final straw was when I fell into my seasonal depression, and it made it worse. I started to feel like an emotionless robot and knew I had to leave it. Overall, the negative side effects far outweighed the positive ones. I'll also note it has been several months since my last dose, and I still don't feel completely like myself. Sometimes, it is harder for me to get up and going than it has ever been, and my seasonal depression didn't end in March like usual, this is the first sunny June I've been depressed like this. I suggest other alternatives to your ADHD, this drug is toxic, very addictive, and can change you. I never felt right taking it, I'll do anything else to combat my ADHD after experiencing it long-term."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "I was diagnosed with ADD in 2005 after experiencing horrible distractibility in class while at college and not being able to focus on a single thought in my head. I was prescribed Adderall IR, and I remember feeling like I had drunk 5 Red Bulls or something! My heart was pounding, and I had horrible anxiety the whole day. I only took it one time. I decided to get off it immediately. Soon after, I was prescribed Strattera, which didn't do ANYTHING. I've gone for about 13 years without actual ADD medications because I really hated the idea of stimulants. That all changed when I realized my ADD was getting out of control. I saw my current psychiatrist last week, who re-diagnosed me, and we discussed my experiences. I had read reviews from people here who say that Dexedrine works for them if Adderall made them too wired, so I asked if I could try that. I just tried it today, and I had no horrible side effects - no anxiety, no heart palpitations, no edginess, etc. It is wonderful!"

For ADHD "I've been on ADHD medications for about ten years, and I tried a variety of medications to find the best fit for my condition. I eventually ended up on Mallinckrodt dextroamphetamine generic, and my ADHD was well controlled for many years, until they stopped making the generic and Barr took over. I noticed adverse effects on my mood, trouble sleeping, my anxiety increased, and at times I felt depressed. I switched to the brand name Dexedrine, and I noticed a tremendous difference, and my ADHD has been well controlled for many years. The brand name works so much better for me than the Barr generic. Since then, Teva bought out Barr, and the medication has become even worse. As a physician, I can definitely attest that there are differences between brand name medications versus generic, and although generics can work for many people, that doesn't mean they can work for all. Unfortunately, the push towards taking generics has made getting brand name even more difficult and expensive."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "I have bipolar disorder and have ADD (not ADHD) for which I was on Ritalin (methylphenidate). My doctor switched me to Adderall because my concentration seemed to be waning again, but I don't believe it is working as well. Concentration is about the same, but it seems I am experiencing a lot more anxiety now than I did with the Ritalin."

Amphetamine / dextroamphetamine for ADHD "I would like to first say that my experience with Adderall was overall successful, it most definitely helped my concentration and ability to focus. However, there are some side effects that I think are worth noting. I had minimal anxiety prior to taking this medication (only when traveling). My anxiety dramatically increased to the point where I was put in therapy and almost took a medical leave from work. (I quit taking the medication once I realized it was a significant contributing factor - although not completely to blame.) I had a very dry mouth while prescribed, which actually ended up leading to cavities according to my dentist. Noticeable lower back pain and problems sleeping (both are alleviated once you quit taking the meds)."
