For Osteoporosis "I received Zometa IV on 9/26/17, after being informed of all the possible side effects. Although I was somewhat concerned, I was pleasantly surprised when, 2 days later, I have experienced nothing worse than a little more joint pain than usual when line dancing last evening. Hopefully, this medication will improve my bone density or at least keep it stable."

For Hypercalcemia of Malignancy "It was an easy IV for 15 minutes. Felt wonderful all day long. Hadn't felt that good in a very long time! Next day, so sick. Went right back to bed and was completely out all day long. Got up later that afternoon and felt fine from then on. Was given 4 ibuprofens before the IV."

For Osteolytic Bone Metastases of Solid Tumors "I have been given this for the last three years, 4 mg intravenous every 3 months. I have had no side effects at all. It has improved my bones, the cancer in my bones is in remission, and I am pain-free."

For Osteolytic Bone Metastases of Solid Tumors "My oncologist, for some reason, changed my medication from Exgiva to this medication. I have been having the worst side effects ever. I have bone pain, stomach pain, fever, and chills. I am on the 5th day, and I’m still experiencing chills and fever. I would never take this medication again. I just wonder how long this is going to last. If I ever get better."

For Osteolytic Bone Metastases of Solid Tumors "I took Zometa for two years until I noticed a hole in my mouth where my jawbone was poking through. Now it’s been a year, and the hole has tripled in size and is starting to get more painful. This drug is horrible."

For Osteolytic Bone Metastases of Solid Tumors "Been on it for about 4 years. Very little side effects. Maybe some lower back pain, but I have terrible mets to bones almost everywhere that I could hardly tell if this med adds to pain. No other problems. I have been getting it for so long that they cut it back to every three months about 2 1/2 years ago. Worried about necrosis to the jaw."

For Hypercalcemia of Malignancy "I had breast cancer in 2017 and chemotherapy and radiotherapy in 2018. I am now on zoledronic acid every 6 months for 3 years. I've had 3 now. The thing is, the right side of my tummy is swollen from just above my belly button and over to my right side. I've had a CT scan, and everything is fine. Bloods are fine. It swelled up after my 2nd one, and no one knows why."

For Osteolytic Bone Metastases of Solid Tumors "My husband had his first treatment yesterday. Today he is miserable, 102 fever and flu-like symptoms. He is getting two other chemo for lung cancer and had no side effects. After reading all the comments, I wish he had read these first. We trusted his oncologist, and I know everything has side effects, but this one has knocked him out. I pray he doesn’t let them continue with this one."

For Osteolytic Bone Lesions of Multiple Myeloma "I was placed on Zometa by my oncologist as a preventive medication to avoid bone lesions and fractures. I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma earlier in the year. I fortunately do not have bone issues at this point, however, my doctor thought it might help with prevention. After my first infusion, I developed severe chills, fever, and terrible calf pain 24 hours later. The fever, chills, and pain fortunately disappeared about a day or two later, but the fatigue lasted for days. Before my second monthly infusion, I drank more water. This did seem to help with avoiding chills and fever, but 24 hours later, I again developed bad calf pain and realized I had edema in my legs. A day later, it is better, but again, I have horrible fatigue and bloating. The side effects of this medicine are worse than those of my cancer meds. I will have to talk to my doctor, as I am not willing to do this every month unless I really have to."

"I have taken Zometa infusions for 7 months. I was extremely tired to the point I didn't want to get out of bed, sleeping more than I ever had, only being awake at most 5 hours a day, lost my appetite, lost weight, muscle pain, and just quality of life was so that I didn't want to go anywhere or do anything. I have not done infusions since January because I was having issues with my mouth. Hurt to wear my partial. After reading about the downside of Zometa, I do not want to continue taking it. Going to ask my doctor for a different treatment. I have also noticed after not taking the infusions, I sleep less, awake, and feel so much better. Was getting 4 mg once a month. This drug scares me."

For Osteolytic Bone Lesions of Multiple Myeloma "This new 20 min IV just about killed me and put me in the hospital for 7 days, then rehab for 2 weeks. I had chronic upper thigh pain which made my right leg and foot numb, and I need a walker to walk now. My calves also are very painful. This IV stopped my urination, and I had to go to the ER. My urethra tube was completely closed, and the urologist got 3 1/2 liters off my bladder. I have to now have a catheter for the rest of my life. My kidneys did turn around but were very bad in the hospital. I have stage 4 prostate cancer and was on Adriamycin and Lupron shot every 3 months. The Adriamycin IV was 2 hrs. I handled these meds very well, but my new oncologists decided to change to Zometa. I was not told about all of these side effects."
