For Depression "I've been on just about every antidepressant on the market, and my doctor and I decided to try adjunct therapy with Seroquel to 'boost' the effect of the Brintellix I take. I was really pleased to find it has a significant effect on my anxiety, which has always been a major component of my depression. While it didn't get rid of my depression, I feel better overall than I have in ages. Downsides? It's expensive if you don't have good insurance. I get a 90-day supply for $80. It also will knock you the heck out. I have to take mine before 6 p.m., or I will have great difficulty waking up (even with an alarm). It has a heavy sedating effect."

For Depression "I have been on a few antidepressants for 11 years with only fair results. My doctor started me on Seroquel XR 200 mg at bedtime over the last few weeks. This medication not only has helped me with the terrible side effects when you come off many of the typical SSRIs, but I am sleeping, and my depression has improved from a 2 out of 10 to a 7 out of 10. Sometimes, SSRI medication side effects are stated as minor, but they can be very severe at times. More doctors should know about Seroquel XR and the great results when stopping antidepressants."

For Bipolar Disorder "I have heard all kinds of bad things about Seroquel, but to me, this medicine has saved my life. I was diagnosed with cyclothymia with racing thoughts and extreme hypomanic phases followed by intense depression. Not to mention, I would get so paranoid sometimes that I couldn't leave the house. I had tried everything including lithium, but then I went to a new doctor. She said I could try Seroquel XR, but I probably wouldn't like feeling sedated. I said, 'Sedated? Fine!' The funny thing is that I have more energy, but it is calm positive energy. I made a huge turnaround, and life is back on track. I thought I had ADHD as well, but now I have great concentration, no anxiety, and can sit still for hours. I highly recommend it if your symptoms sound like mine."

For Depression "I have only been on Seroquel XR for about a week at 50 mg. My doctor prescribed it as an adjunct to Remeron to treat anxiety, depression, paranoia, and insomnia. I also take gabapentin, atenolol, and Xanax. When the Seroquel XR works, it WORKS. I can feel it sedating me two hours after I take it. I've been sleeping eight and nine hours a night, which has not happened in a very, very long time. It's effective at neutralizing both anxiety and depression. BUT... it doesn't last 24 hours for me; it only lasts about 15. Once it wears off, my anxiety and depression return with a vengeance. Makes for a very rough 8 or 9 hours until I can take it again."

For Depression "I have had bipolar disorder/personality disorder and severe depression for about 30 years and have tried just about every medicine there is. A recent setback had me in the hospital: my doctor decided to put me on Seroquel XR 400 mg along with my other medicines. In the beginning, it seemed to help me, as time went on, my symptoms of low mood, suicidal thoughts, etc. came back. Most important to note was the weight gain. In under a year, I gained almost 50 lbs for no real reason. Extreme fatigue and sleepiness made it hard to get out of bed in the mornings! I am now reducing my dosage to slowly get off it as per my doctor's orders and switching to an alternative. I am hoping this will work."

For Depression "My 16-year-old daughter has been in and out of the hospital for a year and 8 months with a lot of ups and downs. She was given Seroquel XR, and she is like a new person. She has gained weight from it and wanted to be taken off of it, but as the doctor started taking her off of it, she did not like what was happening to her and said, 'I would rather gain weight and be stable than skinny and angry and sad all the time.'"

For Depression "I've had depression for 12 years, and have been on Paxil for about 10. The Paxil worked for a few years, but the anxiety and depression slowly worked their way back into my life. So, along with the Paxil, they added other drugs (Effexor, Wellbutrin), but they made me even more anxious. I was finally put on regular Seroquel and found it worked for a little while, but I was so tired all the time I couldn't function the next day. I was literally fired from 3 jobs for being stuck in bed and refusing to get up. I was switched to Seroquel XR 100mg last year, combined with the 90mg of Paxil I'm still on, and I've found a drastic improvement in my mood, anger, and anxiety. My only complaint would be how sleepy it makes me in the mornings. A large coffee or a caffeinated beverage does the trick, though, and it's worth the sleepiness to have some peace of mind."

For Depression "I was prescribed Seroquel 100 mg for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and I could only take it for two days. I took it as prescribed before bedtime. I almost crashed my truck several times on my way to work, and I had to pull over on the shoulder to sleep on my way home from work. Day 2 was a Saturday. I slept for 14.5 hours. I can't function at all on this."

For Bipolar Disorder "I've only been on Seroquel for 2 to 3 weeks, but I have had a largely positive experience. I have had a diagnosis of depression for about ten years and was using Cipralex (Lexapro). I came off Cipralex twice, and both times I became very depressed. Even on Cipralex, my mood was constantly changing, so I went to see a psychiatrist who thinks I may have Cyclothymia or bipolar II, so he started me on 50 mg of Seroquel. Initially, I was very groggy but have gotten over that. I've also gained a stone in weight. But my mood has really stabilized for the first time. I feel happy, confident, and passionate. I no longer have a million thoughts in my head, so I can focus better. Hopefully, this continues."

For Bipolar Disorder "All I can say is that it is a miracle medicine. I finally have my life back. There are side effects, but it is worth it. I am in college and doing well. My doctors said that would never happen for me. They said that I would be in and out of the psych ward. I have not needed to be in the hospital in over five years. I can finally hold a job. Like I said, I have my life back, something I was told would never happen. Seroquel XR is the reason for that. Regular Seroquel is great too, it just made me sleep for 18 hours a day. Seroquel XR makes me sleepy, but I no longer oversleep. Again, I say I got my life back."

For Bipolar Disorder "Seroquel XR has changed my life! I tried regular Seroquel, and it's like having your head in a bucket. The XL version feels like a completely different medicine. I take 100 mg at night. I wake up refreshed, happy, eager to start my day, I also take Lamictal 300 mg in the morning. No side effects from either medicine. I have been on both for about 7 years. I have been depressed once in that time, and it was situational."

For Bipolar Disorder "This medication has been a real lifesaver. I had struggled with heavy depression interspersed with hypomania for a few years before I was eventually diagnosed with Bipolar II Disorder, for which I was prescribed this. The initial 50 mg did nothing except be an overrated sleep pill, but the boost to 300 mg for bipolar depression helped begin to mellow me out, and a few weeks later I was starting to experience a life free of devastating mood swings. I've read horror stories online, but I experienced nothing of the sort (actually *lost* weight in the past few months). It's a shame there are risks with long-term use, I would happily take this forever otherwise - these past few months have been nice, happy, and productive for me thanks to this."

For Bipolar Disorder "Within 2 months, at a dose of 300 mg, it completely changed my life. I have been on many meds and combinations for 20 years, but this (along with much soul-searching, personal responsibility, facing truth, therapy, and DBT skills) has stabilized my bipolar I and almost cured my borderline personality disorder. I had resigned myself to a difficult and tragic life before this happened. I was inspired to move to a single med because I was a longtime user of lithium, SSRI, Lamictal combo and wanted to try for a baby. This ended up giving me new life - my own."

For Major Depressive Disorder "My mother rushed me to the hospital because I refused to get out of bed and wouldn’t stop talking about suicide. I was so tired from feeling low every day, I thought there was no way I would ever regain the will to live. Dr. Rx’d me Seroquel 25 mg once at bedtime, so at least I wasn’t thinking about ending my life anymore. Suddenly, I felt really heavy-drunk and could barely walk. The first day I slept for 20 hours, and when I woke up, I was too tired to keep up my previous behavior. After a couple of days, I whittled 20 hours down to 8 and was sleeping normally. Six months later, I am at 100 mg, and six months away from that, I am now on XR 200 mg. Never have I felt better about my life. This is a tranquilizer. If you expect to drive cars or operate machines, you are seriously mistaken. It should not be taken in the morning due to its sedating effects. If you are someone who doesn’t need to “dull your brain,” I highly suggest you ask your doctor for another medication. There’s a reason it’s dubbed the shut-up drug."

For Bipolar Disorder "Finally was able to get back on Quetiapine after adding fiber pills to my diet, and I am loving sleep. Spent my whole life not sleeping well or at all lately (was up for almost a week straight last year). Quetiapine IR was a surefire way of knocking me out within an hour and staying asleep well into the morning. Pretty groggy, though, and had to keep increasing my dose. My Pdoc recently sent the XR version into the pharmacy instead, and it is rather different. I don’t get knocked out right away, which means I can create a better sleep hygiene routine. If I am more relaxed, I don’t need to be put to sleep but gradually work my way into it. It does take a minute to fully wake up, but I have to say I feel my overall mood remains pretty stable for most of the rest of the day."

For Bipolar Disorder "At 41, I simply couldn't take the depression, the mania, the ADD, or the severe anxiety attacks anymore. I finally went to the doctor, and she put me on Seroquel XR, starting at 50 mg for 4 days, then 100 mg for 4 days, and now the maintenance dosage of 150 mg. It has honestly changed my life and saved my marriage. My brain seems to function normally now. My nearly constant suicidal thoughts are gone, and I can concentrate on tasks for more than 15 seconds at a time. I would rather have a healthy appetite than feel nauseous, so that side effect only boosts my moods. The only thing I don't like is my dreams are vivid, but not in a nightmare sort of way. I've begun dreaming in color, which is also new. I can certainly live with that..."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "SEVERE WEIGHT GAIN and METABOLIC SYNDROME! I had always suffered from anxiety from childhood to adulthood. My doctor prescribed a low dosage of 150 MG in December 2010. At the time I was prescribed Seroquel XR 150 MG, I weighed 96 lbs, petite frame, size 0 or 2. On January 11, 2012, I weighed in at 136 lbs. The 40 lbs of weight gain within one year went to my abdomen, and I am covered in cellulite on my abs, hips, back, buttocks, and thighs. I monitored my diet and intake the entire time, but the weight gain was out of control."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Have had major depression and major depressive episodes over 45 years. Have tried various SSRIs. Seroquel is the best so far, it helped me significantly with one 25 mg dose. Where the SSRIs did not seem to help much at all after months of use: Prozac, Zoloft, Effexor. Side effects seem to be minor, except it does make me sleep a lot. A LOT. Up to 10 hours a day. Deep sleep, not just REM sleep. Works extremely well for me. Although I try to use it only when I need it. In short periods of 2 weeks or so, and then see if I still require it. Very effective. I can honestly say this drug saved me from the edge of desperation and suicide."

For Depression "I was put on 25 mg of Seroquel at age 15 due to major depression. I agree with the previous comment made, even on such a low dose, I also feel I'm in a chemical straightjacket. I have trouble thinking straight, I can't concentrate for over 15 minutes, my sleep is average - it's extremely hard to wake up. I also find I'm so much angrier and impulsive, I stutter and can't form words, as well as shaking uncontrollably in my legs when I get anxious. I also get headaches at least twice per week. However, my family and close friends have noticed a considerable improvement in my mental health, e.g., suicidal thoughts have almost stopped completely, and an increase in more 'happy Emma days.' Such a strong, powerful, and dangerous med."

For Bipolar Disorder "I was diagnosed with bipolar II about 5 years ago, and I've tried everything on the market. Nothing worked for me except Seroquel. Right now, I take 300 mg twice per day, and I'm so stable. I'm loving it. The problem, though, with Seroquel is that it's a major weight gainer. I would stop taking it on and off when I felt better, but then would use other meds to bandage my symptoms... get back on, then off again... until one day I decided to stop with the denial and allow someone to help me for real. I've been on it now faithfully for 9 months... but I've put on 60 lbs! It makes me eat after hours in the middle of the night. I'm depressed because of the weight gain. So I work out at home at times, trying to be more consistent. You have to work this medicine."

For Bipolar Disorder "I've been in and out of mental health clinics for a long time, just trying to find something to slow my racing thoughts and make me feel like life is bearable. I've taken benzodiazepines, only to become drug-seeking and take too many and need early refills, thereby being forced by the prescriber to wean off. Done SSRIs with no effect whatsoever. Remeron made me gain 40 pounds in like 2 months' time and didn't help me sleep. Marijuana made me paranoid. I just started some new therapy and was diagnosed with bipolar II and post-traumatic stress disorder. She gave me Seroquel XR, and my mind is calm and I sleep well on it. I'm still on a pretty low dose, going up to 100 mg tonight and then 150 mg in 2 days. Just hope I don't gain weight, but so far I feel productive and my mind is quiet."

For Bipolar Disorder "The Seroquel makes me feel like I'm dreaming. I kind of feel like I'm losing my sense of reality. The dreams/nightmares I have seem lucid, like I can't tell the difference between what I dreamt and what really happened. It is just completely changing my personality. I don't feel like myself anymore."

For Depression "I have been on 400 mg of Seroquel XR along with my antidepressant for more than 1 year. Initially, the medicine worked great for my stress, delusions, and helped me sleep well at night. Lately, the anxiety has returned, and I have severe anxiety during the daytime. At night, I pass out, so I don't feel much. However, this medicine has caused me to gain a lot of weight. I would say I have gained about 25 pounds since starting the medicine."

For Schizophrenia "From the age of eleven to seventeen, I lost touch with reality, no doctor could figure out what was wrong with me because I didn't tell my real problems. I was living in an imaginary world. At the age of seventeen, I was finally able to express some of my problems and got started on Seroquel XR. Day by day, I had the feeling of becoming normal again and regained control over my own life. I still have issues from all the problems that involved my past, but I can truly say that I got control back. I truly think Seroquel XR saved my life."

For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder "Within three days, basically all my anxiety is gone, and I feel fantastic! FINALLY, a doctor and psychologist worked together to treat what they said was a 'unique' problem. I had anxiety all the time but wasn't depressed. So I'm one happy lady, and I'm sure my kids are loving their old mum back."
