Promethazine for Allergic Reactions "I got given it at first by the emergency department when a rash was breaking out over my face. It works. But I also have anxiety and have found it to be way better than Valium, etc. I feel relaxed and to not sleep, I'll just take half a tablet, but at night, the 25 mg tablet helps my allergies and is a godsend to relax the mind. I love it. I've noticed some people take it for nausea. I have always used Stemitel, and that works almost instantly. And I have no adverse reactions to either. I don't know why they don't use this for anxiety and such."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was prescribed this for morning sickness. It certainly did relieve the nausea, but it knocked me out for six to eight hours shortly after taking it. I tried taking it before bed instead of during the day and slept really well, but still felt really groggy in the morning and kept falling back to sleep. In the end, I moved to another med so I didn't feel so drowsy."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Whenever I feel nauseous, I take one 25mg promethazine tablet. Works every time and there are no side effects that accompany this medication. Usually, the nausea is brought on by a headache or when I'm having postnasal drip. It's much more effective than Zofran. I would definitely recommend it for the symptoms I've mentioned, but mainly nausea. It works every time."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "Phenergan is an excellent medication for sleep and nausea. It also helps with pain associated with headaches. Phenergan allows your stomach to feel much better and your pain to slightly subside. It's a good night's rest guaranteed. Phenergan had absolutely no side effects, aside from sedative effects... which were welcomed after I had been so ill with nausea and vomiting. Take it, feel better, and get back to life."

For Sedation "I was given 25 mg to take nighttime. I found myself waiting hours before it kicks in. Everyone said the next day how well I looked, however, my brain was a bit fuzzy the following day. I shall use this drug to create a sleep routine and then only use it sparingly for emergencies of sleeplessness. I found myself sleeping through the night for the first time in years."

For Sedation "I started taking this a while back to help me sleep. It works in a funny way, doesn’t help me fall asleep, but once I’m asleep - it’s hard to wake up. I take half of a 25 mg pill most times, if I take the full pill, I feel quite drowsy and extremely tired the next day. Maybe it’s because I’m quite small, though. Could quite literally sleep through the day. It surely does work, though."

Promethazine for Sedation "I have really bad insomnia. I cannot get to sleep at all. I take 50 mg of Phenergan. And it takes a while to work, like 4 hours, then I fall asleep. I have tried other meds, and they work for a short time, but it is slow to work, so that I lay in bed for at least 4 hours until I fall asleep, but at least it works."

For Nausea/Vomiting "While in the hospital, I was suffering from nausea and vomiting. Since I could not keep anything down because of the vomiting, I was given Zofran via IV. It worked quickly and controlled my nausea and vomiting. I was given a prescription for Zofran when I was discharged. When the vomiting began again at home, I was unable to hold down the Zofran long enough for it to work. My doctor called in a script for Phenergan (promethazine) rectal suppositories. I found that they worked almost as quickly as the IV Zofran and actually did a better job controlling the nausea and vomiting. As mentioned in other reviews, both the pills and suppositories can make you a bit sleepy."

Promethazine for Vertigo "I have Meniere's. Phenergan seemed to help for about 2 hours, followed by an urge to throw up and a horrible headache. I also had to unscrew the fluorescent bulbs above my desk at work, it just felt like a rollercoaster. I felt better when I was moving, but when I stopped, I was still moving! The ENT switched me to 1 mg Ativan, which worked (finally!), but it made me sleepy until I got used to it."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "Excellent. The only thing that has ever worked for my nausea or vomiting. My last trip to the hospital for horrible stomach pain and nausea, the nurse said that the hospital stopped carrying it because it has such bad side effects. They kept trying to give me Zofran and Compazine, but it did nothing, and I left the way I came in. Phenergan is a lifesaver."

Promethazine for Light Sedation "This does the job for stressful periods of insomnia, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you have something important to wake up for the next morning - one 25 mg pill makes me feel drowsy for hours after waking."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "Do not use this medication for anyone over 60. My mother was given this in the hospital for a mild nauseous feeling. I think they thought she would be sedated by it. She is elderly. This drug put her into a terrible state of hallucinations, delirium, and all-around restlessness for about 8 hours. It’s awful. She would have been better off with Tums. Be aware of all the side effects."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was nauseous and in pain for three months straight, couldn't hold anything down at all. The doctor could not figure out what was wrong, I lost 70 lbs in those three months from not eating anything but applesauce and water. Two years ago, I was diagnosed with GERD, acid reflux, and a hiatus hernia. Still, with the meds they put me on, I was unable to hold food down-maybe toast, rice, water, etc. Finally, my doctor introduced me to promethazine, it has been my best friend. I take it probably three to four times a week, and every time within 30 to 40 minutes, it works fabulously. I would recommend it to anyone who has nauseous/vomiting issues."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "For uncontrolled nausea and vomiting that has been diagnosed as a migraine variant, the Phenergan suppository is the only medicine that works. It put me to sleep and helps to greatly lessen the nausea. This medication works! Getting a physician to understand the diagnosis is not always easy."

For Sedation "Tried promethazine to help with restless legs syndrome at night and think it made it worse. Not sure whether it was me waiting for them to work that made me more agitated or the tablet. Stopped taking them after 3 nights of hardly any sleep."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Promethazine is a lifesaver. I'm 26 years old and was diagnosed with acute renal failure 8 months ago. My main symptom was extreme nausea and vomiting. I've had to take a plastic bag with me every time I left the house and was in the ER about 7 times since the diagnosis for dehydration. The doctors gave me 3 medications (including Zofran, which I took and was no match for the vomiting). Things were looking pretty grim, my psychological and physical health was going downhill until I was prescribed promethazine. I took it for 2 days, and bam, all the vomiting and nauseousness was gone. I stopped taking it and felt fine. It's now 3 months later, and the vomiting is back, I know just what I'll be taking now."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I take this now, and I'm pregnant. It's the only medication that has completely helped my nausea. The only bad thing is it makes me extremely tired, and that's not good because I'm a stay-at-home mother of a very energized 3-year-old."

Promethazine for Urticaria "Chronic hives - 25 mg works well after desloratadine ceased working for me. Side effects of sedation, lethargy, falling asleep very quickly (sometimes inappropriately), dry eyes and mouth. (If I was working and not retired, the side effects may not have been manageable)"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I have had generic Phenergan for years. Anxiety and migraines for years. Then came Compazine, and I thought I was going to jump out of my skin: agitation, aggressive, definitely not for me. Then Zofran, which did absolutely nothing! Was diagnosed with chronic pain syndrome after cervical discectomy with fusion, then another surgery. Had a pain pump inserted, and I was vomiting like there was no tomorrow. My pain doctor prescribed promethazine and a muscle relaxer and said the combination would stop the nausea, and the promethazine would also work well at reducing the pain. I’m long past being drowsy, and it is a miracle drug for me. I wouldn’t have any quality of life without it."

Promethazine for Sedation "Take 50 mg at night to help me sleep, as it takes away the anxiety. It works a treat. I'm very sedated and calm after 1 hour and can sleep 8 hours. Only downside, I seem to crave sugary foods like chocolate, so I tend to binge (can eat a whole entire packet of biscuits in 10 mins)."

Promethazine for Allergic Reactions "Phenergan (promethazine) is very effective for nausea and vomiting. It is generally not used for urticaria or respiratory allergies. It is very strong and will make you drowsy. I recommend taking it when you are going to lay low for a while. We don't give it IV anymore because we had some serious tissue damage reported when it infiltrated under the skin. I am not sure that we still give it IV. Lately, it is either given as a suppository or as a pill."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Promethazine has worked wonders for me on many occasions when suffering from moderate to severe nausea. Due to the somewhat intense sedation at higher doses, I usually opt for Zofran (ondansetron) for mild nausea associated with the onset of a mild migraine. That being said, promethazine is the better option if you are already severely nauseous or vomiting. If taking it for the first time, be wary of doing anything that could be dangerous while being impaired, as it is notorious for being very sedating. Also, from personal experience, I learned that I cannot tolerate this medication IV. It was given to me as an opiate adjunct and caused me to become aggressive, disoriented, and extremely restless. Overall, I still recommend it."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I suffered from Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome; similar to an abdominal migraine. The gastroenterologist prescribed Phenergan suppositories as a prophylaxis. It prevented the onset of the nausea and vomiting. Just knowing it is in my refrigerator should I need it has stopped the cycle."

For Nausea/Vomiting "This is a very potent drug. I'll say that. Highly effective for nausea and works very quickly, and that was what I was taking it for, so I'm giving it a 9. The one point deduction is for the weird side effects. Definitely makes you super drowsy, and I also experienced mood swings, crying jags, and what almost felt like hot flashes. But they're preferable to the extreme nausea, so... weigh your options."

For Sedation "This drug works for insomnia, but it seems to have a very long half-life, and I feel groggy the next day. Plus, it also gives me depression, which can linger for at least a couple of days after taking it. Depression is a common side effect of antihistamines, especially the strongest anticholinergic ones like Promethazine/Phenergan."
