For Sedation "Used this for the last 4-5 weeks. I tried this as it was a solution that I could get over the counter. I take 1 x 25 mg per night (packaging says you can take up to 2 x 25 mg), and I don’t have any side effects. Sleep deep, hear my alarm, and I feel fine the next day. I have had other over-the-counter sleeping tablets, and this is far the best! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!"

For Sedation "I suffer from nightmares. At my doctor's suggestion, I have been taking one Phenergan at night for many years. They calm my sleep, and I have hardly any nightmares now. I tried sleeping pills first, but they made me feel as if I was living in cotton wool through the day. I also tried Nytol, but they made me hyper and unable to sleep! If I forget to take a tablet, I will have nightmares that night. I have not had any side effects at all. Tablets available over the counter at the chemist."

For Sedation "I have pretty unrelenting severe insomnia. I can be awake for a few days at a time, which doctors don't know the reason why. Over the last couple of years since it began, I have taken a variety of meds for it. For me, Phenergan (Promethazine) works well, but I have to take 75 mg, which is the max recommended dose. I usually then get about 6-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. The only downside is I feel groggy half of the next day, but it's a small price to pay for getting sleep."

For Sedation "Great stuff. Best way to beat restless sleep patterns. Not up and down like a yo-yo when I take one. Use 1 25mg. Get sick of the silly questions at the pharmacy. Don't take it every night, about 3 times a week."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I was prescribed Phenergan after having my wisdom teeth removed. When I got home, I immediately fell asleep (still under the influence of the anesthesia). Upon waking and attempting to stand, I began to heave and vomit profusely, but after laying back down and taking Phenergan, my symptoms were gone nearly instantly. Would definitely recommend; Phenergan was an important part of my recovery!"

Promethazine for Sedation "I have restarted taking 3 months ago, after coming off amitriptyline cold turkey. These are more suited as you can take most cold and flu medication without issues, which was always an issue. The tablets take effect quickly (1.5 hours). I first started on 50 mg per night, now down to 30 mg due to tablets now making me more sleepy during the daytime than before. I would recommend these to any anxiety or insomnia sufferer as they do not have neuro side effects like other sleepers."

Promethazine for Sedation "I don't know if I classify myself as an insomniac, but I usually wake up a lot of times in the night, which disturbs my sleep and makes me tired in the day, so I decided to try Phenergan. This medication should really be taken just before you go to bed, I wouldn't recommend taking it while you're watching TV or anything because, in my experience, you have to be trying to fall asleep for this to work. Even then, it's a horrible drug. 25 mg is too little, and I still wake up in the night a lot, 50 mg is way too much, and I'm pretty sure my throat closed up for a second in the middle of the night because I woke up gagging, and I don't suffer from sleep apnea, so that was weird. Either way, any dosage of this stuff causes terrible daytime drowsiness the next day, I'm not sure if that's down to the half-life of the medication or whether it is purely because it gives you really poor quality sleep."

For Sedation "I'm an 18-year-old female and was prescribed this drug by my doctor, as I have trouble sleeping. Now I sleep great, but have trouble waking up in the morning and feel tired and lightheaded for the rest of the day. Not sure if this is normal or not for this medication."

Promethazine for Light Sedation "I've had trouble sleeping and waking up all night for years, tried every natural sleep aid and none work. I won't ever try prescription sleeping pills. I was told about this OTC med, and they really help. I'm sleeping for longer and not waking. There have been no side effects, so far, so good."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "Had an outpatient procedure and put into a 'twilight sedation,' with additional pain meds through the IV, although I can’t recall what that was. The pain meds caused me terrible nausea and dizziness. I was given a dose of Zofran and a motion sickness patch before surgery to try and prevent this, as I get nauseous from pain meds so easily... that didn’t work. I was given 12.5 mg of Phenergan, and 15 minutes later, symptoms had improved greatly. I was able to get dressed and start on my way home, although the nausea was still present somewhat due to the motion of the car ride home. Hit the bed and slept like a rock for four hours, felt sleepy the rest of the evening. Blood pressure did go up some as well, 132/88. Took my usual beta blocker at bedtime that helped my BP come down."

Promethazine for Sedation "I have been taking these for almost 5 years, what started as 1 x 10 mg then turned into a huge dose. I have now dropped down to 3 x 10 mg a night and have decided it’s time to go completely cold turkey off them. I started taking these to sleep easier, as due to anxiety it was hard to fall asleep. I have made the decision to come off them, as I was getting intense nightmares which made me afraid to fall asleep, my body was bruising extremely easily, and my platelets were beginning to drop. Just be careful if you have an addictive personality."

For Sedation "I’ve taken Benzos on and off short-term for insomnia. I ended up with suspected withdrawals. My life was awful, and I felt I was going to die. Lost my job, couldn’t sleep, and the Dr wouldn’t give me any more benzos - thank goodness I remembered Phenergan! It can take a few hours to kick in, but I took 50mg and had a 10 hours sleep. I still wake a bit but am able to get back to sleep. Been taking for 14 days now and want to stop because it makes me drowsy the next day, and I’ve gained weight because it just makes me so tired, which I chose over the insomnia. But hopefully, I will be able to reduce the dose and then stop taking it and sleep without it soon. I read someone wrote to take it with Ashwagandha herbs, so I’m gonna try to find those tomorrow. Phenergan is great, though. If you have severe insomnia, then everything gets harder, and this OTC just really helps you get some sleep so you can keep going. I’m very grateful."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I was given Phenergan in the hospital when Zofran wasn’t doing enough for my nausea due to food poisoning. They put a large amount into my IV, and a few minutes later, I realized I couldn’t tell if I was dreaming or awake. I kept staring at my husband, wondering if he was really there or not (he was). It was the most frightening medical experience I have ever had. I just kept my mouth shut and didn’t tell anyone what was happening to me because I didn’t want to be given any more medicine. It did get rid of my nausea, though, but not even close to being worth it... so terribly frightening."

For Sedation "I found this little gem a few years ago. While in my late forties, I had a blocked nose. I spent a fortune on remedies, and although this sounds insignificant, it became a constant annoyance as symptoms were so awful it caused nosebleeds, cold sores in my nose, sleepless nights, etc. Eventually, I went to the doctor who informed me it was an allergy. Beconase nasal spray and an antihistamine tablet. This I used daily as my allergy didn't subside with the changing seasons. It held it back for a good month, although I never had a restful sleep. Then I found Phenergan, and since I started taking it just before bedtime, all of my symptoms have gone! The downside is I find it challenging to buy!"

For Sedation "I have been taking Phenergan for insomnia and find it works great. I have had trouble sleeping most nights for a few months, mostly due to being wired up at bedtime. I have random thoughts running through my mind when I lie down, which stops me from sleeping, and then I get anxious about not sleeping, which then prolongs the time taken to fall asleep. But Phenergan seems to calm my mind because of its sedative properties. I take a 25-50 mg dosage, and 30 to 45 mins later, I begin to relax and feel drowsy enough to fall asleep. I get a good 6 or 7 hours of sleep on them, overall these tablets work for me. The only side effects have been a dry mouth and grogginess in the morning, but those are better than getting no sleep at all."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Got this prescribed to me when I had a bug a few months back. Recently, I have had recurring Clostridium difficile (infection in the stomach) for a few months. I take promethazine when I feel nauseated, and it always works in about half an hour. It makes me extremely tired, but it's worth it if it combats the nausea. That being said, it doesn't work for any stomach ailment other than nausea (pain, cramping, bloating). I love knowing it's around just in case I need it. (PS: If you are really going to throw up, it will come out the other end after promethazine.)"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I am pregnant and have severe nausea, so my doc gave me these pills. They are amazing, but they act like a sleeping pill. I went to bed at 5 pm and woke up at 7 am the next morning. I like not feeling sick, but I don't like sleeping so much when I take it."

Promethazine for Sedation "After experiencing a severe onset of anxiety, I developed insomnia and couldn't sleep for over three weeks, remaining awake throughout the night. Additionally, I woke up with nausea and vomited for some days. I was prescribed 25 mg to take before bed to help with sleep and nausea. The first time I took it, I slept for 12 hours! I felt drowsy the next morning but also refreshed and didn't wake up with nausea. The second time I took it, I slept for 8 hours and was still a little drowsy. Taking 25 mg before bed definitely helps sedate me and improves my sleep throughout the night."

For Sedation "I have used Phenergan on and off for a few years for insomnia. They work extremely well. I take just 12 mg, and that gives me six hours. If I take 125 mg, I am sleepy all morning and not terribly motivated to do much. However, the downside is they make me terribly hungry. I am basically good at controlling my weight and appetite, but on these, I lose that control and seem to snack all day."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "Has anyone experienced sadness after starting to take this drug? I am on 25 mg for a few days and feel that it has helped with the nausea a little bit with the anxiety, but it has made me sleep all day and feel sad. I normally have trouble getting onto strong meds such as antidepressants, but I don't know if this is a case of this or something else. I am scared of becoming depressed."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I suffer from severe anxiety, irritable bowel syndrome, and acid reflux disease. I have inflamed intestines quite often, which causes me to feel nauseous and on the verge of vomiting a few times a week. I got this medicine through an IV when I went into the hospital for severe stomach pains and was highly nauseous. It worked so well and relaxed me, I fell asleep for a few hours. They gave me a bottle and told me to use it as needed. Now, when I have that feeling coming on, I'll pop one of those and relax and sleep it off. Always wake up feeling much better!"

Promethazine for Light Sedation "My sleep is terrible. Phenergan helped, but it made me anxious and shivery if I didn't take it and jump into bed straight away to settle. I'd sleep well but wake the next day feeling like I'd been hit by a truck and low in mood. It does help with sleep, but it's not for me. Back to insomnia for me."

For Sedation "Works totally like a light out. But I take prescription full dose... not OTC dose. Really hard to wake the next day. Have slept through the fire alarm. And yes, I have extremely severe, hospitalized (at the time) sleep problems. Whilst it works, I hate the daytime grogginess. I still run twice a day, etc., but the general ‘sleepiness’ annoys me."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I have had stomach problems since I was a child, and so far, no doctor has been able to figure out what the problem is. The only relief I have gotten is from Phenergan (promethazine). I call it my 'miracle drug.' Even when already vomiting and nauseated, if I take 25 mg, in only about 15-20 minutes, I am relaxed and vomiting/nausea is gone. It does knock you out for a good bit, though, but if you have been up sick for a while, this will be a much-needed rest. Promethazine, you are my hero, and I love you."
