Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "Had an outpatient procedure and put into a 'twilight sedation,' with additional pain meds through the IV, although I can’t recall what that was. The pain meds caused me terrible nausea and dizziness. I was given a dose of Zofran and a motion sickness patch before surgery to try and prevent this, as I get nauseous from pain meds so easily... that didn’t work. I was given 12.5 mg of Phenergan, and 15 minutes later, symptoms had improved greatly. I was able to get dressed and start on my way home, although the nausea was still present somewhat due to the motion of the car ride home. Hit the bed and slept like a rock for four hours, felt sleepy the rest of the evening. Blood pressure did go up some as well, 132/88. Took my usual beta blocker at bedtime that helped my BP come down."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Promethazine is a godsend to me. I'm on many other medications, which get me sick every morning, feeling nausea/vomiting, dizziness, etc. Promethazine takes all that away from me, and I love it! I really recommend this drug for people who get morning sickness or are RX'd a strong narcotic (Oxycodone, Morphine, Methadone, etc.), it helps and takes away the bad side effects of the narcotic. It's RX'd as an opiate adjunct. Works wonders."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "Woke up with dizziness and terrible nausea. After 5 hours of dry heaving, went to doctor. One injection and nausea gone almost immediately. Slept for 3 hours, then ate dry bagel, chicken soup without any problems. Next day, eating normally but feel tired and a little 'under the weather'."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I have had to take this to keep from being sick from vertigo caused by multiple sclerosis. It has worked very well if I catch it before it gets to the point of actually vomiting. A little dizzy means, 'OMG! I HATE throwing up! Dive, dive, DIVE!' All while I throw myself at the bottle like I'm throwing myself on a live grenade to save my platoon. The ONLY reason it does not rate a ten is what I feel to be too long of a lag between ingestion, of a tablet, and the beginning of efficacy."

For Sedation "I took 50 mg of the promethazine for sleep, it took at least 2 hours to start working. Once it kicked in, I was beyond tired. I fell asleep in my bed for about an hour and woke up. I got up to head outside for a cigarette, I got dizzy and laid on my living room floor and was out for another good hour. After getting back to bed, I fell asleep for like 5 hours and woke up drenched in sweat, having to change clothes, sheets, etc. Overall, worked good to go to sleep besides the sweating side effects and feeling fuzzy after it's worn off. Most likely would not take again due to the sweats."

For Allergic Reactions "My husband used Phenergan 25 for an itchy reaction to another drug, caused nervousness, dizziness, insomnia, anxiety, confusion, anger, nightmares, and thought he was going mad. (I did too!) After 2 nights, I realized what it was doing, he slept it off the next day, never to use it again! There is no warning of these ill effects on the packet! Only may cause drowsiness, well, it did, about 16 hours later!"

For Vertigo "The pill version does nothing for vertigo. In my opinion, it appears to make me feel more unbalanced and dizzy than without. The syrup form does provide some help when it comes to treating vertigo. But, its effects aren't long-lasting either. The suppository form does provide some help towards helping treat vertigo. For severe cases of vertigo, Phenergan alone is not the best solution for such. I would only recommend using it if your vertigo is not severe."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "Second trimester of pregnancy and had lost 30 lbs due to hyperemesis. None of the other nausea meds were working, they even gave me suppositories. I was admitted to the hospital, and I ended up on an IV drip of Zofran for a couple of days to give me some relief. Once they took me off the drip, I was scheduled to get the Zofran regularly. One particular nurse was terrible about giving me my medication on time, and I got so sick they had to look for an alternative. She gave me Phenergan, which made me drowsy, uncoordinated, disoriented, and gave me restless leg for a while. That experience was terrifying. When the doctors came in to check on me, they told me that I was given too big of a dose, so they were going to try it again at half a dose. That half dose was AMAZING!!! It took away the nausea immediately and allowed me to sleep comfortably. That became my regular nausea med for the rest of the hyperemesis, and I was given a prescription to use at home as needed. It saved my life."

Promethazine for Opiate Adjunct "I have been taking Phenergan 25 mg for years now. I have no problem with it, and it works fine for me. This is for the lady that said she was 65 years old and her daughter had the same reaction. You are severely allergic to Phenergan, do not take it anymore, please. My wife was prescribed it for nausea and vomiting. She started taking it, and every time she started feeling like throwing up, by the time I made her go to the emergency room, she was on the couch with her feet raised. I mean, I had to put a cinder block under the end of the couch to raise it up enough for her. She could not stand up without throwing up, and I had to hold her up to get to the bathroom. She was in the hospital for a week. Now she cannot look up without getting dizzy and going to pass out!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I took one 12.5 mg tablet and had the worst side effects: dizziness, not feeling able to hold my head up properly, nausea was worse. I felt like I couldn’t control my movements very well. I prefer prochlorperazine so much more than promethazine! Wouldn’t give this medication to my worst nightmare! Would never touch this drug again!"

For Vertigo "Elderly male, balance and dizziness in head, no spinning, etc. Problem: imbalance in one ear. Told to take for 14 days. Sleep all the time makes me feel dizzy also. Didn't take day 6 and felt much better. Back to taking it at bedtime. Hopefully, after 14 days will feel better."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I would rate this an eight. Unfortunately, I found that if I take it when I am already nauseated (the kind where you know you will be throwing up in about an hour), it is too late. And this medication burns my throat when it comes back up. (Sorry to be a little graphic, but this is a nausea/vomiting medication.) I have to pay really close attention. If I have any vertigo that day, then I take one. Otherwise, like I said... it doesn't help. Rather like Vicodin and a few other pain relievers that won't stop your toothache once it has taken hold. I hate taking it when I am not sure. It certainly does make me sleepy."

For Sedation "This drug has ruined my life. I have been researching it since... I’ve been on a psych ward as a direct result. I woke up extremely trippy and started trying to kill myself. My son had to go with my parents, he is heartbroken. I was fitting in the hospital as well. I am now paranoid. I never sleep, and my life as I know it is over. My whole personality has gone. I’m paranoid, and after almost two months, I can still feel it in my face, brain, and body. My tongue swelled up and was hanging out, I couldn't breathe. I hallucinated and lost my cognitive abilities and my personality. I know my son can’t come home as this has not gotten better. I cannot organize myself. I have autism and ADHD, generalized anxiety. I felt dizzy, everything wobbled, and I now don’t know what to do with myself. All I could say when I woke up was 'it just won’t go' - and it still hasn’t."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Promethazine syrup is what I started out with. It used to be real good for me to take away nausea whenever I would experience it. After having used it for over 10 years, I feel like it isn't working as effectively as it used to. I just found out that it has alcohol in it, and I no longer feel comfortable using it. I also own it in pill form (50mg). The pill is very strong, and I find that it leaves me feeling lethargic, dizzy, and it creates stomach upset. I don't understand how a pill that's supposed to help you when you're nauseous and sick can actually make you feel worse. The suppositories work the best for me. I don't have any side effects from it. And unlike a pill, I don't have to worry about it possibly coming back up again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "The first time I took it, it made me severely disoriented and dizzy. I also slept all day. I tried taking it again last night for vomiting and nausea, upon taking it, I immediately projectile vomited to the point of bleeding. I do not recommend."

For Anaphylaxis "So I had an extremely bad reaction to betahistine that I got prescribed for dizziness. My face, lips, and tongue got swollen up. I was having sensitivity to light and noise. Was puking and diarrheaing the whole time. Got a majorly hot head and headache. Got weak, tingly, and twitchy. Was having trouble breathing for 2 days and didn’t go into emergency until the next day, and they did nothing to help. I was feeling a little less hypersensitive the next day but still so dizzy and still having diarrhea and cramps. I couldn’t walk, so I went to emergency again. They gave me promethazine and it’s kind of helping the dizziness but still feeling horrible from that reaction."
