Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I was prescribed Phenergan after having my wisdom teeth removed. When I got home, I immediately fell asleep (still under the influence of the anesthesia). Upon waking and attempting to stand, I began to heave and vomit profusely, but after laying back down and taking Phenergan, my symptoms were gone nearly instantly. Would definitely recommend; Phenergan was an important part of my recovery!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "I suffer from severe anxiety, irritable bowel syndrome, and acid reflux disease. I have inflamed intestines quite often, which causes me to feel nauseous and on the verge of vomiting a few times a week. I got this medicine through an IV when I went into the hospital for severe stomach pains and was highly nauseous. It worked so well and relaxed me, I fell asleep for a few hours. They gave me a bottle and told me to use it as needed. Now, when I have that feeling coming on, I'll pop one of those and relax and sleep it off. Always wake up feeling much better!"

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I had gallbladder surgery and got narcotics for pain afterwards. No matter what painkiller I got, they made me vomit even at half the dose. Ondansetron (Zofran) helped some but not fully. Once I got my first dose of Phenergan, my nausea was completely gone. It made me very sleepy, but I was very happy about it. This was the best anti-nausea medication that I ever had!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "Promethazine is a godsend to me. I'm on many other medications, which get me sick every morning, feeling nausea/vomiting, dizziness, etc. Promethazine takes all that away from me, and I love it! I really recommend this drug for people who get morning sickness or are RX'd a strong narcotic (Oxycodone, Morphine, Methadone, etc.), it helps and takes away the bad side effects of the narcotic. It's RX'd as an opiate adjunct. Works wonders."

For Vertigo "I take this medication with another pill for my Ménière's disease. Once my vertigo is in play, I get severely nauseated and vomit. With this drug, once an attack comes on, I take it immediately. It not only calms me down but makes the nausea go away almost completely, it's a godsend."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Promethazine is a lifesaver. I'm 26 years old and was diagnosed with acute renal failure 8 months ago. My main symptom was extreme nausea and vomiting. I've had to take a plastic bag with me every time I left the house and was in the ER about 7 times since the diagnosis for dehydration. The doctors gave me 3 medications (including Zofran, which I took and was no match for the vomiting). Things were looking pretty grim, my psychological and physical health was going downhill until I was prescribed promethazine. I took it for 2 days, and bam, all the vomiting and nauseousness was gone. I stopped taking it and felt fine. It's now 3 months later, and the vomiting is back, I know just what I'll be taking now."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I have had generic Phenergan for years. Anxiety and migraines for years. Then came Compazine, and I thought I was going to jump out of my skin: agitation, aggressive, definitely not for me. Then Zofran, which did absolutely nothing! Was diagnosed with chronic pain syndrome after cervical discectomy with fusion, then another surgery. Had a pain pump inserted, and I was vomiting like there was no tomorrow. My pain doctor prescribed promethazine and a muscle relaxer and said the combination would stop the nausea, and the promethazine would also work well at reducing the pain. I’m long past being drowsy, and it is a miracle drug for me. I wouldn’t have any quality of life without it."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I suffered from Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome; similar to an abdominal migraine. The gastroenterologist prescribed Phenergan suppositories as a prophylaxis. It prevented the onset of the nausea and vomiting. Just knowing it is in my refrigerator should I need it has stopped the cycle."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I had a very serious vomiting problem with my first pregnancy. I had to be hospitalized and then put on an IV at home for fluids. When I was about two months pregnant with my second child, I was given promethazine, and it was the only thing that kept me from the same issues as the first pregnancy. I was still sick every day, and I was still vomiting sporadically. However, I was able to actually eat and drink and gain weight. My son was born fine. Now I am pregnant with my third and have started on it earlier than the second pregnancy. I was not aware that the effects of the drug on unborn children are unknown. My doctor had told me it was safe. Hopefully, this next baby will be fine as well."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Started taking promethazine at 25 mg 3x daily years ago, then to 4x daily for severe nausea and vomiting from treatments for cancer and couldn't keep food down at all. I was also on strong pain meds before & higher with cancer, oxycodone 30 mg 4x day & morphine 30 mg ER twice daily for having 18 fractured vertebrae (8 herniated, 9 bulging, had 1 ruptured disc repaired), a separate AC joint in the right shoulder, and other broken bones, and leftover bullet & shrapnel fragments in both legs & right foot due to 17 years in the US Army, 3 combat tours. I found that the promethazine didn't always work as well as it should have. At times, I did go over and take a couple more of them per day than what was prescribed. Didn't notice if it helped with pain meds. On them again, cancer returned."

For Nausea/Vomiting "This is excellent in the syrup formulation. Works in about 20-30 minutes. Doesn’t cause me other issues. Take it for when I’m dizzy and get sick, when it feels like I have a migraine, when gastritis, esophagitis, gastric paresis. I’m just very prone to throwing up something about my vagus nerve. I believe that’s what they told me in the hospital. I’m just prone to getting dry heaves for hours, and other times it’s full vomiting. Have tried numerous other meds, and this (syrup version) one works the best."

For Sedation "I was given this stuff when in labor as I had felt nauseated. I think they put it right into my IV. I vomited anyway, but suddenly didn't care much about it. It relaxed me so much that I fell asleep off and on between labor. Since I also have PTSD along with severe insomnia, I wouldn't mind trying it for sleep. It can't be worse than Ambien, where I usually don't know that I ransacked the kitchen and pillaged everything that I could stuff into my mouth. When I wake up in the morning, I find the kitchen in mysterious disorder but have no memory of eating anything, or even getting up. At least with Phenergan I wouldn't have to worry about it."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I've had horrible non-stop nausea and vomiting during my pregnancy, and after being prescribed this, it gets rid of it 100%. I tried taking 1/2 the first few times, but it makes me SO tired I can barely function, and it's kind of depressing. At that dose, it makes me sleep the whole day away, makes me forgetful, and it makes it kind of hard to talk normally. So I switched to a quarter of a tablet, and that works for me. I try to only take it when I really need it."

Promethazine for Opiate Adjunct "I have been taking Phenergan 25 mg for years now. I have no problem with it, and it works fine for me. This is for the lady that said she was 65 years old and her daughter had the same reaction. You are severely allergic to Phenergan, do not take it anymore, please. My wife was prescribed it for nausea and vomiting. She started taking it, and every time she started feeling like throwing up, by the time I made her go to the emergency room, she was on the couch with her feet raised. I mean, I had to put a cinder block under the end of the couch to raise it up enough for her. She could not stand up without throwing up, and I had to hold her up to get to the bathroom. She was in the hospital for a week. Now she cannot look up without getting dizzy and going to pass out!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "My doctor gave it to me for morning sickness, and it seems like it makes it worse. They gave me 25 mg. I took it 3 times and threw up each time and only wanted to sleep. After reading people mention they took a 10 mg dose, I broke my pill in half, thinking maybe the dose is too high because I don't take medicine like that. So far, I haven't really felt too nauseous, but will keep monitoring it. Glad I looked at other people's results with the medicine."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I am 21 years of age and have suffered from migraines for nearly 15 years now. Phenergan is my go-to medication for the nausea and vomiting that sometimes comes along with my headaches. I usually just want to crawl into a dark hole, but with this medication, I'm able to control my nausea and prevent myself from being sick. It also helps with the stomach pains I sometimes get from taking Excedrin Migraine."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I am extremely ill with a multitude of symptoms. I visited my doctor and found out I am infected with 2 viruses. My doctor prescribed promethazine, and it has made a world of difference. I am now able to sleep, eat (without vomiting), and it has even relieved most of my muscle aching and allergy symptoms. I would definitely rate this medicine as a 10."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "As a type 1 diabetic, I occasionally get nausea and/or vomiting with low blood sugar. If blood sugar levels are severely low, you may feel nausea and something similar to a migraine headache, in my case, with locking-tight neck muscles. It is hard to get blood sugar levels up when you are vomiting. I have found a Phenergan suppository is the only thing that works for me during these episodes. It works very quickly to stop nausea and gives me enough time to eat before making me sleepy. I have been diabetic for more than 40 years, so it is not as though I am inexperienced, and I have both an insulin pump and blood testing equipment with which to check my glucose levels before I ever consider going to sleep. I do not recall ever being truly 'knocked out' long term, but asleep for a few hours, long enough for the headache and tight neck muscles to subside."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I would rate this an eight. Unfortunately, I found that if I take it when I am already nauseated (the kind where you know you will be throwing up in about an hour), it is too late. And this medication burns my throat when it comes back up. (Sorry to be a little graphic, but this is a nausea/vomiting medication.) I have to pay really close attention. If I have any vertigo that day, then I take one. Otherwise, like I said... it doesn't help. Rather like Vicodin and a few other pain relievers that won't stop your toothache once it has taken hold. I hate taking it when I am not sure. It certainly does make me sleepy."

For Nausea/Vomiting "It just didn’t work for me. I’m pregnant, and my doctor didn’t want to give me Zofran yet, so she gave me Phenergan… but all it does is make me pass out asleep, which isn’t helpful at all since I have a young baby already, or I throw up anyway because if I don’t take it with food or I take it before I feel bad, it turns my stomach. If I wake up already vomiting stomach acid, I can’t take food or the medication, and it’s just useless to me. I noticed a lot of the positive reviews mention anxiety. I suppose it mostly helped them because of the sedative effects? It just did nothing at all for my morning (all day, every day) sickness."

Promethazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I've been taking this medication for a minimum of 15 years. It is a very good medication. I use it for nausea and vomiting. It does the trick. It also aids with my pain & insomnia, only when combined with other meds. But, even though I'm well educated on Phenergan, if I take it too frequently, it gets built up in my system and gives me severe restless leg symptoms! If you've never had it - avoid it! Just take it only when necessary."

For Anaphylaxis "So I had an extremely bad reaction to betahistine that I got prescribed for dizziness. My face, lips, and tongue got swollen up. I was having sensitivity to light and noise. Was puking and diarrheaing the whole time. Got a majorly hot head and headache. Got weak, tingly, and twitchy. Was having trouble breathing for 2 days and didn’t go into emergency until the next day, and they did nothing to help. I was feeling a little less hypersensitive the next day but still so dizzy and still having diarrhea and cramps. I couldn’t walk, so I went to emergency again. They gave me promethazine and it’s kind of helping the dizziness but still feeling horrible from that reaction."
